'you can romance whoever in ACOdyssey' but none of these romances have any kind of narrative or character impact, much like everything else in that game, so what's the point. you cant even smooch brasidas, so again what is the point

can you spill more abt that self insert of yours? 👁️👁️
Oh boy oh boy can I? (big yapping incoming) (typo and grammar massaccare of 2024)
Tumblr media
He is a self insert OC Assassin from the Ottoman brotherhood (bc Im Turkish) and he is 23 (bc I am)
not a secret mentor or anything lol I was just joking in the first post making a mary sue.
I imagine he is similar or one above than whatever Yusuf’s rank is (I have yet to play Revelations :,p ) tho I do not know what time he should be in, Realistically if no time travel happened he would be in same time as Yusuf but I dont want Gilf Ezio (sorry) but if its Ezio, Alt and Desmon togather timeline probobly he is in around AC2 Brotherhood time. (maybe he came by Italy to do a mission and dropped by the hideout)
He is ethnically Balkan or/and Greek (bc I am) which probobly means he was taken to Constantinople as a teen or kid to eighter be sent to Jenniserrie training or the male-harem.
Small history lesson:
- Devşirme was the name of the practice where Ottoman empire basically enslaved young Greek,Balkan,Ukranian, etc etc boys and inserted them into an Elite military (Janniserries) even the Sultans themselves were scared of bc they were known to start coups and kill Sultans(they got a salary and are socially above the commonfolk but… military slaves non the less)
-Male-harems existed, again Balkan, Romanian, Slavic and greek etc people were often the main people in the harems (fun fact nearly no Sultan is Turkish due to this lmao they are all mixed), once again their status were above the common folk and they were well taken care of (the older males could even become gov officals after) but slavery non the less.
Idk if I want him to escape the harem or Jenniserrie for his edgy backgrund but maybe he did few years of training, cought the eye of the Sultan and escaped the moment someone was like “you have been promoted to an elite employeeee, u won harem lotterry” . Probobly wandered the streets a bit, got into hella fights till an Assassin picked him up escaping a group of soliders. Maybe it was an older dude who saw him when they were both in training
He is basically based off my own ethnicity and its context to the time and sociatal goings of that era lol (which was hella gay… very gay… too gay almost)
He probobly has some traditional slavic leg, hand and arm tattoos (bc I have em but also) mostly bc around those times (nearly always women) used to tattoo themselves in those motifs to remember their christian roots and their culture (that Ottoman tried to erease) and also to make themselves less appealing to Ottoman Harem/ Devşirme recuiters :,D
For his name, Maybe to be on the nose… Adem? (Turkish ver of Adam) so he is tied to the apples in a fun way? Or Poyraz (means a northern wind) since the meaning is similar to my own name?
He doesnt grow much facial hair (bc I am also stuck w a weak beard) but he refuses to get rid of it no matter how much others tease him bc he is like “I aint getting courted by random crazy men ew” (I dont irl also bc I desperetly believe it looks good…I refuse to open my eyes)
History lesson 2:
-facial hair was important in Ottoman times, It LİTTERALLY determined your gender and how you were approached.
-Socially and in Litriture Ottoman almost had 3 gender roles; Men, Boys (Oğlan) and Women. Once a man grew a beard he would “transition” from being a boy.
-Romantically having a beard versus not determined if you were to be courted or court. Bearded man were called “Lovers” while NON-bearded were called “Beloveds” (yes more often the boys were underage :/ for the sake of history lesson lets…. try to ignore that like ancient greeks)
Tumblr media
there is many gay ass poems ^
He got all the mentall illness coctails that I got bc why not make it worse fr him. I imagine him sarcastic and catty, Claudia prob loves taking him to shop around bc he always got something to fckn say about everyone. Big gossipper. Hides the fact that he hates being as short as he is very well (im like… 165? 5’5-4?). If in Yusuf time, nearly BFFS (if im not inserting myself into the throuple (bc Its my self insert and I CAN BE AS CRINGY AS I WANT) he would end up w Yusuf)
Him about others:
Ezio: will never stop calling him de la la la,likes him a lot, loves pranking and teasing him. Enjoys fake flirting with him till he takes it so far Ezio has to throw in the towel. Probobly teached him how to Oil wrestle and Ezio was like “Are you sure this is a real sport…” and all he did was sigh and say “I am so glad it actually is” as he admired Oiled up Ezio
Altaïr: loves mocking whatever big words he uses all the time. calls him “Big boss” just to see his eye twitch with cringe. Knows he can get away with shit if he acts stupid enough. Altair knows he is not that stupid but is impressed(deragotory, fondly) how low he is willing to go.
Desmond: clearly his favorite (im biased sue me) obvious by how much softer he acts around Des. Ezİo falls he laughs, Des falls “My leige, hop on my back”. Is facinated by his piercings and begs him to help him get some. Desmond desperetly wishes he could invent some ADHD Meds for him. Des also finds him strangely comforting, can imagine himself back in 2010s almost…
————-
Idk im not rlly a self insert person so thinking about him was hard and I also dont wanna make my oc “the main character” in this au so I dont really wanna give him any secret powers or anything.
Maybe some edgy gnarly scars on his back from a past mission where he came in contact with an apple? Maybe when he touched the apple he was supplied that canonly he doesnt exist and he is just a fan created being and has a whole issue about it? I can imagine a sad scene of him crying like “You dont understand, You exist! even as some damn video game you do and people know you they cannot deny you exist. ME? all I am is some weirdos self writing, not even enough to be in canon. Does anything I do matter?” lololol
Thats all I got for him for now lol but feel free to ask more:p Im also open to ideas for him.
sorry for the yapping and history lesson… here is some more fun facts:
-Oğlancılık (male prostitution) was pretty respected they were seen like any other tradesperson in some parts
-a Paşa tried to ban under 30 males from being washers in Turkish Hamams due to them also being sex workers and litterally everyone was so mad he got replaced
-dancers in coffeehouses wore the same fit no matter the gender so boys and girls looked the same (once again they were also sex workers)
-one time a jewish boy caused such a big fight between janniserries the sultan had to threathen to kill 40 man from each side if they didnt stop
-Draculas are real people and RADU the beutyfull (his OFFİCİAL NAME) had a full on recorded relationship with Sultan Mehmet2 :p
- Gay shit was legalized in 1853 mostly bc they never rlly punished it….
for the girlies
-in harems the girls couldnt order things like cucumbers or carrots to their rooms w out it being cut up :p

Oh sorry about my preaching my jokes, just been tired of the meta and wendon commentary that been force onto my generation
Also like in Velma
“You these types of stories are usually about popular white guys who get more power? Well not mine!”-bitch you are doing a adult comedy from a kids franchise that supposed to be a gateway into mystery genre
Also we know you came from a white collar family and went to Darthmouth college
Also like my Chinese wizards having a cannibalism issues. The reference is the numerous sources saying that Chinese ate other humans during times of crisis and warfare
Vs modern writers who trying to subvert tropes
There a fundamental difference between a Gen x and Millennial cinemaphile who picked up on Disney animation movies tropes VS a child who first Disney movie that can remember influencing them is Encanto or coco
Modern writers completely forgot that
It also like my Judas joke with Yasuke and Akechi. I just use the historical context as Judas is the golden standard for betrayal so, depending how they executed his jesuits connections, so him calling Akechi Judas made sense.
Also another thing, Japan been the most requested setting for ac. To the point the offical Twitter made a joke about it
https://x.com/assassinscreed/status/1569400536205594625?s=46
But I recall many people said they got into AC because of the Ancient Greece and Egypt games. So I expect a lot of new blood will come in. And it seem red will be the same especially as it going to take place between the major trilogies and sagas
So naeo is going to be the ultimate shinobi fantasy we wanted. While Yasuke will be used to newcomers to explain the whole secret war. Dialogue like this
Yasuke: So the assassins and Templars, weren’t they destroyed by the Mongols and Templars burn by the French king?
A European assassin(who I would make the grandson of ezio as a callback): We are much older than our crusaders incarnations. My grandfather found records saying that Brutus and Cassius was one of us. There are even whispers that both orders can trace themselves back to ancient Egypt
Y: What that got to do with Japan?
A: It is said that an order of Xuia (founder statue was in ac2 and the mobile game Jade will focus on them) killed the first emperor of China who was supported by the Templars forerunners. This conflict have been around since the dawn of humanity. And I sense the Templars know of something that Oda founded.
Rough but this what I meant like a issue why writing

You're good no worries, and ya how do you screw up Scooby Doo, start by removing Scooby and then move on to shoehorning politics and SocJus stuff in there.
Also like my Chinese wizards having a cannibalism issues. The reference is the numerous sources saying that Chinese ate other humans during times of crisis and warfare
Not terribly uncommon honestly, there's the old law of the sea that absolves sailors of wrongdoing in case of cannibalism if starvation is the only other option and the person being eaten is chosen fairly.
There a fundamental difference between a Gen x and Millennial cinemaphile who picked up on Disney animation movies tropes VS a child who first Disney movie that can remember influencing them is Encanto or coco Modern writers completely forgot that
Gen-X is the parents of them, older Millennials too, more Gen-X tho.

Nice they listened
But I recall many people said they got into AC because of the Ancient Greece and Egypt games. So I expect a lot of new blood will come in. And it seem red will be the same especially as it going to take place between the major trilogies and sagas
New fans mean more sales so that's likely part of the plan,

Ya needs polish, but it's not bad either, not as a plot outline at least.

ezio (in all seriousness now. mind your step 🥰🥰🔪🔪)
hey you can put your pixel knives away, i love ezio. and i'm not gonna steal your video game boyfriend i promise <3
first impression
i first played ac2 when i was 13 or so. at the Very First Glance he annoyed me a bit because he reminded me of boys my age who thought they were all that. a pre-fuckboy, if you will. but then he was so soft with his family. i really felt the pain of losing them with him. and he was adorably awkward flirting with cristina and being baffled by leonardo. so i quickly realized that ezio actually deserves so much love. and also a hug... pls allow this man some damn comfort ubi. plus of course, the fancy renaissance assassin robes and being so overpowered in fights just made it so FUN to play as ezio. i appreciated his badassery
impression now
now, playing an ezio game feels like coming home.
no matter what life throws at him, ezio finds a way to move forward and make something of it. always with a joke and a spring in his step. i love that resilience. and i've come to love the charm that annoyed me at first. because it's not putting on a show, that's just How He Is. he's warm and charismatic and funny. and manages to maintain that in spite of everything.
also, his humor isn't a façade veiling a lack of character or wisdom as can sometimes be the case with the fun-loving roguish archetype. over the course of the games, he really grows to be a man of principle and gains truly insightful perspective. these quotes he just drops:
"When I was a young man, I had liberty, but I did not see it. I had time, but I did not know it. And I had love, but I did not feel it. Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, the twilight of my life, this understanding has passed into contentment. Love, liberty, and time: once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward."
"I have lived my life as best I could, not knowing its purpose, but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon. And here, at last, I discover a strange truth. That I am only a conduit for a message that eludes my understanding. Who are we, who have been so blessed to share our stories like this? To speak across centuries?"
"To say that nothing is true is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile and that we must be the shepherds of our civilization. To say that everything is permitted is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious of tragic."
"My story is one of many thousands, and the world will not suffer if it ends too soon."
i cried looking those up and reading them again btw!!
this man goes through so much pain. he builds the brotherhood up from nothing, only to lose it. and then builds it again. he does ALL THAT only to realize his whole life has served to convey a message he will never understand to a person he will never meet. yet even so he still finds contentment. he finds love and happiness. and he does it all with the signature ezio auditore da firenze flair. and looks hot doing it
(i really do need to note, this pixel man is FINE. i have to say his brotherhood look is my favorite but he is consistently hot)
i love him i love him i love him
favorite moment
there are so many??? and tbh i just started my ezio trilogy replay so the details are a little fuzzy, especially on brotherhood and revelations
one moment that always rips my heart out is when he assassinates his first target and yells "the auditore are not dead! i'm still here! me! ezio! ezio auditore!" and you can just hear his voice breaking a little
i love the little conversations between him and leonardo. leo really becomes one of the few constants in ezio's life, which forms such a distinct and powerful bond between them. and leo is just a walking ray of sunshine
ooh i really love the entire venice carnival sequence. also both ezio and claudia's assassin induction ceremonies. when ezio yeets cesare off the roof. and all of the moments with the quotes above
like i said, impossible to choose. and i still feel like this list is incomplete since i'm about to replay and will likely rediscover a bunch of old faves
idea for a story
hmm i don't know. i really feel like ezio's story is well executed and comes full circle in canon tbh. in the past i've enjoyed fics that actually do give ezio a chance to talk to desmond and explore the bleeding effect creating overlap between their lives. if i wrote a story, i might focus on ezio and claudia, because i feel like her character is very underutilized in-game.
unpopular opinion
i suppose a lot of my interpretation of ezio would be unpopular among those who see him as a womanizer and put him on a pedestal for that. other than that, hard to say tbh. i know many people don't like ezio with sofia, and i think they're very cute together. i guess also, i don't think ezio ever fully recognized claudia's ability. i think his perception of her was clouded by the gender roles of the time. in my view, he improved over time but never managed to shake off that bias
favorite relationship
romantically, this is difficult because ezio has great chemistry with lots of people and almost every ship makes me think oh yeah that'd be cute. i don't really have an otp with ezio, you know? i do really like him with leonardo and sofia tho
platonically, claudia. the murder siblings dynamic is everything. also, yusuf. their interactions were always so charming and hilarious, and yusuf's death clearly hit him so hard-- why ubisoft
favorite headcanon
ezio paints portraits of his targets, but i also like the thought of him painting portraits of his loved ones. ones that just feel more tender and personal when you're looking at them. and going out to the countryside to paint landscapes with leonardo-- artist couple!!
this is a communal headcanon at this point lol, but in-game ezio tries coffee and suggests adding sugar and milk. so i like to think he's the inventor of The Most Extra coffee drinks, like a triple caramel cappuccino with extra whipped cream and sprinkles type shit
finally, i think at heart he's very sentimental. he probably holds on to all sorts of knick knacks that remind him of the people in his life and the places he's been. he catches a whiff of, idk, a certain type of flower and is instantly transported to picking those flowers for a crush as a boy. gets all misty-eyed thinking about it. ezio is soft!!
send me a character!

Hi, did you play every AC game? If yes, in term of game plays which are the easiest? For someone without much experience in games, ty!
Not every AC game, because I can handle only so much of cookie cutter games at a time. Before I say more, lemme get this out of the way first: I played the Ezio trilogy back in 2018 because Da Vinci’s Demons was cancelled and I wanted more Da Vinci content and the white and red hoodie looks cool. In other words, I didn’t play the game because it’s called Assassin’s Creed.
The AC games I played so far, by the order of which one I play first. I’ll rate gameplay by my personal preferences (because it’s the only way I know how).
Ezio’s trilogy (AC2, AC Brotherhood, AC Revelations, played in 2018): decent parkour, minimal grind (just invest in the villa and you’re a millionaire in a day or two), very story focused (perfect balance of historical and modern plots). Decent combat. The golden years of AC and I agree.
Unity (played a few months after Ezio): good parkour, medium grind (bigger map and more items to upgrade, you still get to invest in properties so it helps). Time-saver items are on sale for real money aka MTX (ew). Combat is ok, not much difference since Ezio. Historical story is meh (I don’t care for Arnold because Elise’s story is more interesting) and they completely ditched the modern plot (you think Odyssey has little modern day plot, try Unity). Buggiest AC game I encountered and I played this game 4+ yrs after launch (hold on to that thought, keep reading). Ubi spent all of their time and budget doing the interior design (which is gorgeous btw) that they have none left to fix the bugs.
Black Flag (a few months after): chasing flying papers is my favorite activity to NOT do. Grindy af (no property investment). I can’t tolerate the controls for the ship so I hate everything that involves ship in this pirate game, except for sea shanties. You’ll have more fun playing this game as a pirate than an assassin. Combat feels the same since Ezio. Other mechanics are like Unity (understandable). Modern plot is minimal, but it makes bloodline irrelevant and there’s a....soul inside a computer server that wants to possess a human body, meanwhile said soul’s husband is a maniac who has unlimited reincarnations (realism, I know). Black Flag is the gateway game that convinces me that I should stop wasting my brain cells in “what kinda bs realism is dis?”
Odyssey (a month after launch, bought solely because of Kassandra also when I heard Odyssey is set before the creed, oh fuck yea I don’t need to sit through another rehash of Creed crap or at least minimal anyway): oh gods a breath of fresh air from the old controls where you have to hold R2 whenever you want to run and my fingers hurt sfm. Climbing is the best because the protag actually moves where you want them to move. MTX (ew). Grindy but because the combat and movements are smooth, best combat so far; I don’t see Odyssey as grindy because I enjoy my time playing (also Kassandra); I platinum the game on PS4 at around 130 hrs I think, could’ve been earlier but photomode. Fun quests that I giggle whenever thinking about them (I don’t remember shit about any quests in any other AC game, but then again Kassandra). People bitch about no parkour but who parkour in the 450BCE?!?!? Full disclosure: I never cared for parkour and never will. I stop caring for modern plot after how Unity and Black Flag handled it. Playing Odyssey makes me realize that I enjoy AC games more if idgaf for the AC aspect, rather, I play for the fictional historical tourism aspect. Just ditch the AC and voila, blue sky and fresh air. Playing Odyssey also makes me realize that I want a spin-off IP that focus on the Isu so we can go full fantasy. Do I need to say how pretty Odyssey is? lol
Origins (planned to play Origins first, but Kassandra. Also, I remember Amunet from AC2, but somehow we play as a dude in Ancient Egypt, I’m not too eager to find out, despite I prefer Egyptian mythology over Greek and I’d like to thank Yu-gi-oh for that): combat is clunky, heavy, and slow, though no need to hold R2 to run so phew. Grindy af. The bow mechanics is a decade outdated (Horizon Zero Dawn came out the same year and oh boi the difference is night and day, oh yea I played HZD before Origins. I get it the bow isn’t the focus but does it have to feel like Skyrim in 2017?). I’m glad I play this game for the Ancient Egypt (which is beautifully designed *chef kiss*) aspect and no more.
Syndicate (I play this along side of Origins, still haven’t finished it though. Literally bought the game for Evie and I nut over Victorian fashion): combat is no different from Unity. Grindy like Black Flag and Unity. Story is meh in both historical and modern plot so far. Evie is the only reason I’m still trying to play this game. At least the Helix outfits are included in the Gold edition of the game. Victorian London is gorgeous tho.
Valhalla (only care for this game because Eivor. Tbh after God of War and Hellblade, idc for another Viking game): game is buggy af, buggiest AC game I’ve played. Combat is like Origins but worse: the only saving grace is the finishing move & the bow mechanic hasn’t been improved since Origin; I honestly would rather have combat from the Ezio games over whatever-this-is. You have to toggle a button to run now, which is dumb af because I miss Origins and Odyssey automatic run. They bring parkour back (because Vikings totally dig parkour back in the Dark Ages) as well as the-character-doesn’t-move-where-you want-them-to from the older games. Chasing flying papers from black flag is back, no thx. Looting enemies is useless, but hey you get to run around to look for a key or two or THREE to get some minimal amount of materials; so imagine if 2/3 of every chest in Origins and Odyssey are locked. Oh! You have manually pick berries/food to heal, no healing potion, wtf is this half-ass RPG shit? Side quests, oh sorry World Events, aren’t tracked in an open-world game (guess who hasn’t been doing these bitches?). Grindy af. I’m wasting my time looking at the skill points interface (you have 99 lv in Odyssey, 55 in Origins, 403 power in Valhalla. A game doesn’t feel like grindy if you level up every 2 quests for 403 times, does it? lololol). The useless SP tree is so massive that I just don’t use the skills I acquire because it takes too much time to find out which buttons to push to locate the 10 skills in this 403-dot clusterfuck, but the astronomy design is beautiful (gotta give credit when it’s due). Scummy practice from Ubi: releasing “time-saver” pack AFTER reviews are published. Also, who wanna bet there will be more mtx outfits than in-game outfits? Don’t worry, Ubi makes inventory management cLEaNeR for you *hands over 8 outfits for an RPG game*. The free event bugs tf out of your already buggy event, but hey, you’ll get a free outfit that’s a reskin of what you already have, teeheee be grateful. Eivor is amazing but by the gods playing this game is a chore. Tbh I only play Valhalla if I don’t feel like playing Ghost of Tsushima that day. Lastly, why is England so yellow like it’s Ancient Egypt?!?!? And why the sunlight moves faster than Eivor’s running at full speed? Which parts of this game does realism count?!?!?!?
Unsolicited opinion: GoT is an example of how an AC game should be and how DLCs should be handled, but with Ubisoft it will never be and I’m so fucking glad that it is Sucker Punch Prod which handles feudal Japan with utmost respect and realism. See how “honor” is handled in both games and compare the writing. Ubisoft should have announced ding dong AC is dead and create a new IP, but AC is their most financially successful franchise so expect more of this MTX, I mean, grindy RPG approach with minimal narrative.

Top 5 video game men you would marry. Top 5 Horror games that made you go full "LOL NOPE!"
alkbflkhfkf going with the hard questions eh? xD Okay let’s do this!
Top 5 video game men I would marry (I’ll choose to ignore the fact some of these men are in relationships)
1. Yusuf Tazim from AC Revelations (The humour, the spirit, the strength, the caring... I’m about 100% sure he’d make a great spouse!) 2. Adelbert Steiner from FFIX (he’s a dumbass, he has a good mind, good character development, I like him) 3. Bash von Ronsenburg FF XII (Noble heart and mind, a brave man... I have a thing for faithful knights apparently?) 4. Bartolomeo d’Alviano, AC2 (listen, he’s a dumbass with good guts and a love for his sword and I have a thing for dumbasses with good guts and a love for their swords) 5. Arthur Morgan, RDR2 (high honor only obvs, also because deep inside he’s a bit of a dumbass who likes horses and doggos and I like that)
Top 5 Horror games that made you go full "LOL NOPE!" (but please note that I love them)
1. KuOn (the things happening in the background freak me out but I love that it happens) 2. Project Zero 5 (the DOLLS!!) 3. Knock-Knock (some the guests freaked me out) 4. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs (Haven’t played the first one but this was one of my first horror games and I was so scared I didn’t dare playing it for long xD) 5. Outlast (tho this one is more of annoyance because I can’t have a fracking map and got lost all the time)

This one struck me at first for being just. So pretty. The first area you go to has this strange, ethereal like quality, with the particle boxes creating this lovely atmosphere. I kinda wish I knew how to gif things because I want some gifs of these places, they’re so gorgeous.
This memory deals with Clay willingly being captured and rebranded into Subject 16, a position he’d never escape from. William assures him that their Assassin on the inside, Lucy, will be able to get him out once he’s got the information they need. We also get a look into what Clay’s life was like, being a subject for the Animus project. God, and then we find out that Clay’s been a Subject for over a goddamn year. He went in there on February 1st, 2011, and died August 8th 2012. Fuck.
When you get to the Animus room, there’s a pit that you have to fall into, instead of the actual machine. The phrase “down the rabbit hole” kept repeating in my mind as Clay fell, and once we’re “in” the Animus, we start to see images on the walls. They’ve been absent in the last 3 memories, but now they come back in force, as a way to say that the character is digging through memories themselves.
Through Clay, they learned about Ezio Auditore while they were looking for the Apple. You hear various npcs talk about Ezio like we’re back in the ac2 Animus, and it kinda just. Unsettled me for a bit. We know that Clay’s descended from an illegitimate child that Ezio had while Ezio was running around in Venice, so we know that Clay could never access the memories of Ezio with his hands on the Apple. So like... there’s no possible way for Clay to give them what they want, and that’s not his fault. Occasionally we also hear Clay ask for a break, or just a pause, or some answers. He’s not gonna get any.
Clay: What Apple are you looking for, Vidic? Warren: You really want me to answer that question, Mr. Kaczmarek? If I did, you couldn't reasonably expect to be released at the end of this experiment. Clay: In which river do you throw bodies? Warren: Is that fear I hear in your voice, Subject 16? It should be.
God I wanna get rid of Vidic so bad.
The Letter you can pick up is from Lucy to Clay, and it implies that he tried to get to know her the same way Desmond did--or would do.
Clay, Your kind words are appreciated. Work continues on schedule. Vidic is busy dealing with the execs, while I'm running experiments on Subject 15. During drills, focus on getting inside the Animus codebase. I'm already investigating the archives. Don't stress about the operation. I'll protect you once you're in here, I promise. -Lucy
It interests me that Subject 15 was also in Abstergo’s facilities while they were working on Clay as well. I was kinda vaguely under the impression that there was only one Subject at a time? Idk. Then again, we also saw dozens of Animuses--Animi?--in the floor of Abstergo, when Lucy broke Desmond out.
The letter is also found right when Clay realizes something is wrong, and the Bleeding Effect takes hold -- The last bits of this memory are dedicated to just how monumentally fucked Clay gets, he starts hearing things by multiple voices and languages, the screen gets distorted, and he’s seemingly trapped in a maze of portals. Except they’re the same portals, over and over, and all they do is lead him back into themselves.
Some of the dialogue you can hear is the Gettysburg Address, meaning that Clay had an ancestor that listened to it. Another is an Italian proverb; “Dai nemici mi guardo io, dagli amici mi guardi Iddio!” which translates to “I can protect myself from my enemies, may God protect me from my friends!"
The last one gave me pause tho, because it’s the opening line to Les Femmes et le Secret, a fable by Jean de La Fontaine.
La Fontaine: Rien ne pèse tant qu'un secret.  (Translated): "Nothing weighs on us so heavily as a secret"
Now, the actual fable is ... hm, a bit tongue in cheek? I think? Granted, I’m not familiar with his works at all, but the actual fable is about exaggeration, and how you can’t trust a woman to keep a secret. But also it’s a subversion, because the man takes the place of the “woman” by creating a lie just to have it spread around. I’m kinda wondering at the significance that this has, because while the line is very interesting in the context of Clay and the secrets he has, it’s not something I would have immediately pegged him for. That being said, it’s implied that Clay/his ancestor heard this directly from La Fontaine himself. There’s also two adaptions of this fable into a comedic opera, and a comedy play, which could also be where this is being heard.  There’s also the idea that if it was because of the comedic play, then that brings another layer to the questioning of Clay’s sanity, because the line itself about secrets is supposed to be humorous, just like all the secrets that Clay carries. A sort of irony, if you will.
This is one of those literary references that makes me wonder just what the intent the devs had behind it -- is it there just for that first line, or did the devs actually intend for the context of the full fable? Maybe they chose it because it’s well known, like how the Gettysburg address is, I dunno if this is a line that’s immediately recognizable.
Last bit, cause this is getting kinda long. There’s another code fragment you can find, as well as a hidden symbol. Luckily the photo I found has both, so!
Tumblr media
The lights along the bar of the room are actually morse code, which reads  "Beware the dautnhter of the sixth."  It’s supposed to be daughter, but some of the letters aren’t spaced quite right. I’m not sure what it refers to, but my initial thought was Lucy. However, I can’t help but wonder if it’s also a reference to Juno, because in mythology, Juno was the daughter of Saturn, who was one of 6 male titans, and Rhea, one of 6 female titans. Idk if any of that is actually true, but whatever.
The second bit is the symbol on the pillar -- a circle with a dot inside it, an ancient symbol used to represent the sun. It’s only viewable from a particular angle, which is closer to where Lucy usually stood in ac1. By this point we’re well aware that the sun is the main threat, but I can’t help but wonder if the two messages are supposed to be read together, but if so, how.
I’m doin a big think

can you pretty please rank asscreed protagonists from your least favourite to 'i would kill a man for you.' ?
!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the ask
okay so consider i haven’t really played assassin’s creed origin yet (only did like 3 mission at my dad’s place since i don’t own the game and he does)  so i won’t include Bayek and Aya because i can’t really say. Also won’t include ac chronicles cause i didn’t play them ..tho i’m pretty sure i would love Shao Jun
So let’s start this - this is very subjective and based on how i enjoyed both the game and characters themselves. I don’t actually dislike anyone in this list, I’m rather neutral about the last ones
10. Arno - AC unity was a big disappointment to me and Arno was so like …transparent …what is Arno like ? IDk …i dont dislike him either tbh it’s just that i barely remember he exists
9. Jacob - tbh i put him here because i remember him more than Arno and there was no other place left. He should listen to his sister more. Like i don’t have a lot to say on him ???? I like him but heeeeh. i only played syndicate once just like unity and i would rather play AC2 or AC3 for the 10th time than replay it…so i’m only saying this from memory.
8. Altaïr - I never was very fond of Altaïr but i can’t put him lower for his importance and stuff i guess. I prefer fanon Altaïr to canon Altaïr.
7.Evie - very smart, freckles, could kill me, good(i know they could all kill me)
6. Edward - I prefered Adewalé (i saw he has a dlc, freedom cry i think ? i will buy it someday)
5. Shay - I think he’s just neat
4. Aveline - I wish she had a bigger game. She had the only game with a female protagonist and NO male protagonist choice (syndicate…odyssey  ….like it’s cool and all but is ubisoft scared to make a game solely with a female protag ??) . Also …she has a nice hat and hair and a Machete
3. Haytham - I can’t justify this ….I read assassin’s creed forsaken for him
2. Ezio - I’m being unoriginal but I just love Ezio …the first ac game i played was brotherhood and then AC2 and revelation so there’s a nostalgia thing going on too but it’s also probably because he was the most developped character in the whole series (i mean 3 games, books, a sad short about his death etc)
1. Connor - Underappreciated character - I love him and his story. I just want him to be happy. TBH i usually can’t choose between him and Ezio but while looking for the character list i saw a top of ac protags and he was last and i’m very petty so i’m putting my boy first. Also he’s been my computer lock screen since 2012 and i’m not planning on changing it.
0. DESMOND - BRING ME TO LIFE

I’m obsessing over a video game again. In real life I’m not into guns nor shooting - tho when I was 18, with friends I actually did visit a place where you can shoot with air rifles (or something like that) and it was actually lots of fun and I’d love to do that again some day!
But anyway, somehow I enjoy this in video games a lot but there’s pretty much only 4 different video games I play where you use actual handguns: Mafia + Mafias Definitive Edition, Mafia II, Mafia III and GTA V. Of the rest of the games I own, some have hand guns but they aren’t used like in these games but as an additional weapon, like in Assassin’s Creed (I’ve so far only played the first two and AC2 Revelations is still not finished). Skyrim then again has bows and I also like these a lot. I prefer these over close-up combat.
Today I was playing Mafia Definitive Edition and there was yet another mission where I have to work alone and shoot gansters. I replayed that multiple times but always I died because of something stupid. Mainly, I think, it’s my mouse. I need to change the settings of my mouse because sometimes aiming is ridiculously difficult. I have the aim assist off because when I had it on, it felt even more difficult to hit anyone. And even now it feels as if it would be on when it’s definitely off? I have set the mouse sensitivity higher and lower but it might be that the “difficulty” changes once the story gets further, I don’t know... but it really could just be my mouse, it’s a gaming mouse and I don’t understand all the settings that well but I did create a profile with some changes for Mafia III before so I might need to try that with MDE as well and if it will help me out with this.
Talking of the gangsters, sometimes I also feel that they hit me without me even noticing them shooting. I can’t always see any bullets when normally they are there but it might just be me, too, and the hectic situation that makes me focus on the targets and not what’s happening around me. Atm it’s very late so I won’t be playing anymore today but I still can’t stop thinking about the game. And how much I want to start the game again and go and beat that mission where I started to lose my concentration skills and eventually started to get angry too. And when that happens, it’s better to stop - and if I don’t, then it will evolve into a ragequit :D

Finished AC Origins (main story and most side missions anyway)... If interested, here’s my personal opinion on it:
First of all, I am not sure it should be called ‘origins’?? A lot of the things made no sense, weren’t explained, such as, where did Cleopatra get the hidden blades that she gave to Bayek and Aya? How did they come up with leaps of faith? Unless I missed something but I don’t think it was explained. I sort of expected them to invent the hidden blade... but idk I may have missed something. But feels like the game had many loopholes...
Anyway, don’t want to spoil too much (I am sorry if I accidentally do spoil something), but I found the story to be quite weak. Bayek is an interesting character, but most of it shows during side quests rather than main story line, which is the one that I felt was quite boring and well, unfortunately it is a typical revenge story. I have to say Aya being protagonist probably would have been a better choice. She’s more like Altair, very determined, stronger character, dedicated, more focused; and the last mission with her honestly was more interesting than half of the main story line. Basically, no wonder Bayek doesn’t have a statue in that villa in AC2/Brotherhood :DD I enjoy playing as him but he didn’t exactly... do much. Besides his own personal revenge. I do appreciate that they made the target stuff kind of like in AC1. Except it was more than 9 targets :D
Characters were alright, though most of them are kind of forgettable in my opinion. And considering there weren’t many of them...
Present day story. Ohhh boy... I didn’t like Syndicate but that one at least had a sliver of hope that something might be going in a better direction for the present day. In my opinion, Origins completely scrapped all of it again. I feel like after getting rid of Desmond, Ubisoft just has no idea what to do with the story so they keep going back and forth, at this point everything’s just confusing and makes no sense. So yeah, thankfully, and unfortunately at the same time, there wasn’t much of it in the game, so you’ll probably forget it exists for a while.
Gameplay is the strongest side of the game, well, and the awesome setting of course. No more too many boring collectibles. No more optional objectives. However, you will have to loot all the chests in specific locations if you want to get one trophy/achievement. But they are not hard to find and not as frustrating.
I found the side quests to be way more interesting than the main story. It has some fun missions, some sweet moments. Really helped build up Bayek as a character. And oh, no tailing, whew :D
Overall, I think AC:O’s weak story, makes it more of a Unity 2.0 with a better setting and more polished and interesting gameplay (I liked Unity much more than Syndicate by the way). Tho, okay, story is still better than Unity’s haha. I enjoy playing the game a lot but I rather take it as an AC spin off or completely unrelated game. It just doesn’t have the charm, I don’t know. It didn’t give me that feeling of hey this is AC. It had a few references and relations to AC1 but I don’t know. It felt just thrown in it and that’s it. I know this is supposed to be a build up, the beginning of the AC but... it doesn’t feel like it. It’s 95% trying to get revenge. Again... maybe more stuff with Aya would have balanced it out. And the ending actually being longer rather than just 2 minute cutscene.
I wouldn’t say I wasted my money on it. It’s a good game. But not exactly a good AC game. Again, it’s my personal opinion and for you it might feel completely different. But if you are considering of getting the game, I’d recommend doing it for the game itself rather than it being part of AC series. Especially if you haven’t been enjoying last AC games.

Thirsty vs Firenze Guard
or my thought about Assassin’s Creed 2 ‘couse I think I’m somewhere halfway in the game and I feel like I could say something
I never early had an opportunity to play any of games in series. Well, ok, I played a bit in mobile/phone game back in 2012 but there was no plot, only jumping, and that wasn’t even my phone. And I think I saw few materials about AC 3 back when it was coming out. It left me greatly confused why 5th or something installment in series has number 3, or how renaissance Italy is connected to American revolution and who the fuck is Desmond. But it also left me with a feeling of ok, sound kinda interesting, would play if not the fact that my pc would stay in flames second i will try to run this.
[I have a long history of computers that can hardly run Sid Mayer’s Pirates]
Anyway, all I knew about assassins was that they like to parkour and kill people, and then I watched with dad movie and omg that was ridiculous. I mean, how can anyone take plot concept like this seriously? Completly hilarious! And it even has fandom. Alive fandom! they made so many continuations. Just what the hell? I need to play this abomination someday...
That was one reason. Second is that I really love Dishonored series and wanted to try more stealthy/jumpy games. And the third main reason was that I got this game for like 16 zł. Freaking Przekrój cost 15 zł and takes less time too beat :D
Ok, back to game.
First thing that hit me in the face was the fact that this game hates pc gamers. Or at least wasn’t really created for them. Tutorials have no sense until you have memorized half of icons corresponding to right key on keyboard. So you have prompt to move legs, and you see tips to hit running leg button, but I have a standard qwerty mate, no running leg, the hell! Also, qte are so weird and totally unnecessary?? And I'm not saying this only because I missed hug with Leonardo...
But when you finally get it and stop falling from rooftops running, jumping and climbing get goes smooth and is very enjoyable. And as a person that physically can’t do Kaldwin Bridge mission without climbing every time on every top of Bridge, I love this whole synchronization thing. It makes sense, I feel rewarded with new intel, and the leap of faith is so much better when you do it from 40 meters than 4. However, I can’t say that I enjoy combat... It’s maybe because of controls, or that I suck at combat in every game, tho I think it’s more about my expectations vs reality thing...
I expected that assassins would be as stealthy as, well, protagonists of Dishonored. Ok, I’m not the master of stealth in Dishonored neither, but the fact I can’t crouch in AC2 weirds me out! And I’m not a real gamer, it’s easy for me: no crouch -> fewer opportunities for stealth kills. Yes, you can still hang from rooftops or in well or sit in hay and wait for a target to get near enough, but that’s... That’s just not it. Ok, I know it’s totally unfair to compare this games like this, but ugh...
Nicer things: I love graphics and music. Especially music during those puzzles in assassins tombs missions. It’s, idek, I feel like my brain is stimulated and focused on thinking. And I like how missions are constructed, despite the fact they are really fucking linear. Like really. That one assassination of the guy on top on tower, but first you have to take off 6 other guy patroling different towers in the vicinity because otherwise, you couldn’t climb? Awesome! But when you receive this quest your intel tells you to take out guards in other towers?? I would prefer to die on my own, trying to scale place with a target, instead of being spoiled by random, thank you fucking much.
I also like characters. Both Desmond and Ezio, I know more about second but both seem to be really nice guys. Or maybe it’s just lip scar and those black eyes, idk... And I love all friendly side characters like Paola, Leonardo, Ezios family, even those guy in ‘irl’. Yeah, even Shaun, fucking drama queen.
Ok, consider this part 1 of my opinions [why this sounds so big??], and I go back to drowning myself in Venecia. I should write something about plot and conspiracy puzzles but not today :p
