obligatory childe post ft 4.2 archon quest spoilers and also my incomprehensible ramblings (read at your own discretion)
fontaine left me with a Lot of thoughts about childe even if his screen time was kinda pitiful
it's been opening up a lot of implications for childe's potentional importance to the greater, overall plot of the story though and its driving me up a WALL but more importantly it's made me pick apart his character
which brings me to Fontaine actually being PERFECT for him to have featured in, actually. because the whole damn nation is a theater, a stage for its archon. Hydro has never fit him better because the parallels of focalors/furina to ajax/tartaglia aren't exact but it's pretty damn close. a separation of the "other" (divine in case of focalors, whatever is wrong w childe in his case) and human.
I just think a lot about how Tartaglia is only ever Ajax with family. you really don't see his old name anywhere, he's pretty openly adopted Tartaglia (kinda childe too) as his name literally in every other circumstance. which you can chalk up to just like. well, he's usually on fatui business, of course he'd use his fatui name, but. even with traveler, it's childe.
so. you know. makes me wonder if as far as he's concerned, Ajax is dead. "Ajax" died when he fell down that crack in the ground and something else crawled back out.
which makes me wonder how he'd feel about the Creator calling him Ajax.
conflicted, probably. because you know him well enough to know his old name..but he's not Ajax anymore, is he? he's not the child with a sword in hand trying to play adventurer, he's a Harbinger. he's Childe, he's Tartaglia.
conflicted because he has doubts, even if he'd never voice them, that maybe you like "Ajax" more then Childe.

the lore behind the prison is so cool it makes my head hurt
AND I NEED TO TELL SOMEONE
we all know that wriothesley is the administrator of the prison
but look at the image in his office behind his chair
That’s Cerberus the three-headed dog
AND DO U KNOW WHAT CERBERUS IS MOST KNOWN FOR IN THE STORIES
GUARDING THE GATES OF HELL
and we all know a VERY important gate in the story
The gate that opens to the primordial sea
so in this, wriothesley is guarding the gates of hell
but in Genshin “hell” is the abyss
so this confirms that the primordial sea is in the abyss
AND THE SYMBOLISM IS SO GOD DAMN COOL

Kaeya gender real.... one of my favorite niches of fic is "kaeya indulges in Gender clothing with a Gunnhildr (who has her own gender feelings) while she analyzes him as a person". If I had a nickle for every one I've found I'd have two nickles which isn't a lot, but they were both fantastic so I think people should write more, etc. G is for gender and Gunnhildr, more people should let them have it.
(I was considering the theory/hypothetical that was getting thrown around of Skirk being an Alberich, but I'd just looked at that one Jean gender post so one of the first things that popped up in my head was a "Are you a boy or a girl?" sliding scale from Jean "I'm a Gunnhildr and a knight" to Skirk "I'm an Alberich and a weapon/threat" with Kaeya in the middle. Violence is one of the only things we know about her and it was funny in my head.)
🕸💐
No because about the Skirk think I have this whole conversation planed out for her character in this modern au situation. Like if she's an Alberich.
(Keep in mind that in this au Childe comes from a conservative part of the country and has never met a nonbinary person, so some mention of transphobia to determine gender. Nothing super bad or anything just, it's there and I'd rather be safe.)
It was like:
Childe: Are you a man or a woman?
Skirk: I'm an Alberich.
Childe: I... Just answer the question.
S: I'm an abomination, a curse on mankind, the destroyer of worlds.
C: No. Oh god! Just... In which side of the shop do you shop at? The men's or the women's?
S: Ewwwww! I don't wear clothes off the rack! I'm an Alberich! Heaven's sake, stop talking nonsense.
C: Which bathroom do you go in?
S: The men's. Less queue.
C: But can you pee standing up?
S: Wouldn't you like to know. Pervert.

Jo from "Sinner in the Seabed", a charming manga about merms that is sadly not published in America. I freaking love her and her design.
It was really fun trying to make this look like an actual paper manga drawing.
