Still not over the fact that The Sandman had a whole-ass secret bonus episode that they dropped 2 weeks after the rest of the series. It contained some pretty big name actors, yet as far as I know there were no leaks or rumors before the release.

It makes me think about when I was in the Sherlock fandom back when a portion of the fandom became absolutely convinced that there was going to be a secret bonus episode released after S4 that would vindicate all their shipping conspiracy theories. Of course this was nonsense. The idea of a marquee TV show making a whole extra episode but not publicizing it or even allowing the slightest hint to escape was preposterous. Now, of course in Sherlock there was never a secret episode, no conspiracy, nothing but queerbaiting from the showrunners and a bunch of fans who lost touch with reality and made fandom a less fun place for everyone else. But then Sandman really did do a surprise bonus episode. Wild! (Note that there may well be other shows that have managed surprise bonus episodes, but not ones I personally follow.)

Now I'm imagining the chaos if there really had been a secret fourth episode to S4 of Sherlock, but it had consisted of half a case about a human trafficking victim in which Sherlock himself only appeared for a few minutes at the end, and half animated Cat!lock AU.

Can I just rant about the Calliope episode?! Well I will do it anyway.

First of all, Calliope even after going through so much she forgave that bloody asshole. She is truly Devine and mercy. (I was sobbing)

Second of, Morpheus you absolute pathetic moew moew of an anthropomorphic personification on this or any other plane, who told you to show that kind of cold anger huh?! As if it wasn't enough! Your voice, your glares and stares and now this! How am I suppose to control myself?!

Also shout out to Sandra Oh in Dream of a thousand cats, I would join your cause, I promise!

Freaking out over the bonus ep cuz it was ALL about oppression––of animals, of women. How the stories we tell about ourselves shape reality & how our world operates. How our present fundamental, cultural myths create inequalities and justify violence.

And how the dominant forces in our culture have the power to change those stories and reshape our world into something more fair, diverse, & peaceful.

Sandman being intentionally meta about itself just fills my myth-loving soul to bits.

Ok I swear I'm gonna shut up and go to be bed and attempt to be even a little normal about this, but fuckin...special bonus episode adapting one of the most popular issues in the series and one of the most important, that drops out of nowhere, with uneven story lengths reflecting the needs of the stories, and with one of the two stories animated so as to do it justice properly, like. I could literally fucking cry, it's so exactly the avant-garde broken formalism I so desperately hoped for out of this show, so much willingness to take risks for the sake of the story they’re telling. I'm so happy. They did both 'Dream of a Thousand Cats' and 'Calliope' such great justice.
