Power Rangers Rewrite: Mighty Morphin'
Tumblr media
Season 1 & Background
Because the Boom Comics actually expounds on their backstories, Rita & Zedd have their comics backstories. Rita is specifically from a planet known as Bandora, which has a lot of magical practitioners, including an organized order of witches.
Bandorans are taller than humans, and to a human eye always look a little sickly.
The Power Coins used to belong to a multi planetary team (the Zyu Rangers) with explicitly Alien Zords resembling the 2017 movie. Rita killed the Green Ranger and took that Coin, thus control of the Dragonzord.
The 90’s Zyu Rangers interpreted the Zords on the Coins as artistic renditions of Earth animals, thus minorly reformatting the Zords when they’re finally brought to bear.
Jason actually beats Tommy during their fight like in Zyuranger.
Tumblr media
Season 2
Grace Sterling gets introduced, and Zordon tells the story of the 1969 Rangers.
The Stone Canyon Trio are introduced, giving an outside perspective to the Rangers.
Zedd doesn’t arrive…yet. He does send messages to Rita in the form of nightmares.
No Thunderzords, the Zyu/Dino Megazord survives, since I wanna keep the Dairangers (Thunder Star Rangers) in my back pocket.
In the same vein, Tommy doesn’t get the White Tiger Power Coin after losing the Green Power Coin, instead he gets a White Brachiosaurus Power Coin that ties him to Titanus, which itself is reformatted to serve as armor and weaponry for the Zyu Megazord.
Tommy’s Ranger Suit is white and gold, with the MM sculpted mouth helmet and Dragon shield, but with elements of the Dino Thunder Black suit, while Saba is literally just a repainted Bracchio Staff.
Before Tommy comes back, Rita launches the Dark Ranger’s scheme from the comics, which comes to an end once Tommy arrives, destroying the Dark Ranger’s Power Source (A Dark Mockery of a Zeo Crystal?)
The Rita putty escapes, albeit heavily wounded, to fight another day.
Kiya comes to Earth following the Dark Rangers, chasing the power source used. She sticks around for a while.
The first half of the season ends with a final confrontation with Goldar when he attempts to throw Angel Grove into the Dark Dimension during Jason, Trini & Zack’s graduation, and is struck down by Tommy and Jason. The Stone Canyon Trio helps.
Jason, Trini and Zack decide to take a gap year, and are given the Omega Morphers to help Kiya hunt down the source of the knockoff Zeo Crystal, while the Stone Canyon Trio take their places.
Rito arrives afterwards, with some new mercenaries to give the Rangers trouble, including Dayne. Scorpina, meanwhile, leaves, vowing vengeance against the Rangers.
Their adventures include a crossover with the Masked Rider of Edenoi.
The season finale is Zedd’s arrival, Serpentera in tow, and challenges the Rangers to combat.
He destroys the Megazord with Serpentera, before taking them on 1-v-6, rendering the Power Coins useless one after the other, until only Tommy is left with his powers.
Tommy tries, but Zedd captures him, and brings him back to the Moon Castle, leaving the other Rangers to lick their wounds and wallow in their powerlessness.
Tumblr media
Season 3
With the Power Coins useless, the Omega Rangers out of contact and Zordon unable to access back-up Ranger powers, Zordon sends the Rangers to Ninjor to create powers of their own.
In the meanwhile, he calls for reinforcements, the Rangers of Aquitar (known as the Doron Rangers), with more on the way.
Zedd sends more monsters to delay the Rangers, and gathers forces fromDark Spector, including Master Vile, to attempt and summon the dark god Lokar from the Talus Dimension.
The Rangers pass Ninjor’s trials and gain their Ninjetti Power Coins and Zords, with all new suits coming with them.
They have elements of the American Ninja Ranger uniforms, the Dairangers, with MM helmets remodeled to reflect their new Zords.
Meanwhile, Tommy is being held by the villains, where he strikes up a friendship with Finster, who eventually helps free him.
During this escape, he finds remnants of the tools used in the corruption of the Green Dragon Power Coin, and takes it.
The Rangers return to Earth and meet the Doron rangers. There’s some chafing, especially between Billy and Cestro, though that rivalry shifts into something more…amorous.
Tommy arrives, Finster by his side and arcane secrets in hand. Finster and Alpha duke it out at least once.
In the background, we’re introduced to new transfer students Tanya Sloan and Kat Hillard. Kat gets mind controlled but it gets broken.
Eventually, Finster, Alpha, Tideus and Delphine figure out how to reactivate the Dragonzord, dormant since the loss of the Green Power Coin, and Tommy uses the power of friendship to bring it back under control.
Master Vile attempts to interfere, but the Rangers strike him down with Ninjor’s help.
Deciding to take advantage, the rangers attack the moon palace, reinforced by the Masked Rider and the Omega Rangers (Now with Yale replacing Kiya)
The Rangers win, destroying Serpentera, and wrecking the moon base, though Lokar is summoned.
In order to seal him, the Mighty Morphin Rangers sacrifice the Ninjetti Power Coins to do so, while Tommy’s powers once again become unstable.
In the aftermath, the rangers disperse. Kim goes off to pursue her gymnastics career, Billy leaves for Aquitar as a representative of Earth, NASADA, and Prometheus.
Aisha also leaves to join humanitarian aid.
Tommy, a bit adrift, decides to stay with Adam and Rocky, and possibly form a new team.
After all, while they did beat them up, they never saw Rita, Rito, or Zedd actually fall…

Don’t Steal My Work And Post It On Other Sites Without My Permission And Credit
Noah Carver and Troy Burrows never thought they would get to be Power Ranger let alone learn that with their new powers they could get pregnant.  But here they are, nine months and still protecting their city.  Yet Troy and Noah are so excited about their children and once they give birth will train their kids to become the next generation of Power Rangers. And if Noah’s and Troy’s kids are lucky they could join Tommy Oliver’s Power Rangers School.  However until then Troy, Noah and the rest of the Power Rangers will be their children and both Noah and Troy too. As some of you know by now and those who are Power Ranger fans Jason David Frank aka Tommy Oliver the og Green and White Power Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Zeo Ranger V Red in Power Ranger Zeo, the First Red Turbo Ranger in Power Ranger Turbo and the Black Dino Power Ranger in  Power Ranger Dino Thunder has passed away this week and I thought for the Thanksgiving morph I would do one of the Power Ranger tems RIP Jason you have finally joined the Morphing Guird with the others who have passed away from the Power Ranger Franchise.

Reelhead as OhRed / Zeo Ranger V Red
Reelhead is not only a movie fan. He is also a fan of the Super Sentai series, as well as the Power Rangers series.
He considers Chouriki Sentai Ohranger a good series, even if it has its flaws.

It’s coming!
On November 23rd 1996, Power Rangers Zeo wrapped up it’s final major arc for the season in ‘Good As Gold’, an episode that saw the Machine Empire finally vanquished by  Lord Zedd, Rita Repulsa, and their merry band of minions. As they left the Empire in ruins, Zedd proclaimed he ‘was back’
Aside from a small comically themed cameo in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, Zedd and Rita were not the principle antagonists of the following season, Power Rangers Turbo. Indeed, their cameo in the Turbo movie implied Zedd had given up altogether on his attempts to conquer the Earth
‘Good As Gold’ also saw Bulk and Skull, the show’s band of bunglers, head off to Paris to join a rival detective agency, taking on a mystery assignment.
When they returned in Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, there was no mention of this mission. They were back in the States with the former Detective Stone, and all three of them were now working again for the Angel Grove Police Department.
Fans were left mystified, continuity in Power Rangers wasn’t always the strongest, but this was more noticeable than previous misfires. Entire events had been set up for pay-offs that never came, and for a time fans pondered what truly happened between the events of Zeo and the Turbo movie.
On March 14th 1998, a message posted to the #alt-mmpr IRC channel by one Derik Smith claimed that such a transistion between the eras did exist, and that it had been shot and filmed rather cheaply as a means of promoting the Turbo movie, using toys and stand-in voice over talent. This took the form of an episodic short film, split into five parts, and aired ‘exclusively’ in Australia.
This mini-series was christened ‘Scorpion Rain’ by those who had claimed to have seen it.
The story centred on Lord Zedd threatening the earth with his Zord Serpenterra, now fiercer and more powerful.
In the ensuing battle, the Zeo Zord fleet is destroyed save for Super Zeo Zord V, which Tommy and Katherine use to combat Serpenterra, before boarding the Zord and planting bombs that ultimately cripple Zedd’s war machine, dealing the galactic conqueror such a crippling blow that he calls off further attacks on the Rangers’ home world.
In reality, this was an elaborate practical joke being played on the fandom by Smith, along with atu Sharp (aka Jovette), and Amit Bhaumik. Other participants in the hoax included Joe Rovang, Jarod “Static-Pulse” Burton, and Chris “Cmdr Crayfish” Funaro.
Amit Bhaumik would eventually work on the official Power Rangers television series for real, and was eventually given the position of script editor for the tenth season Power Rangers Wild Force, Amit would go on to write several team-up episodes for the season, culminating in the anniversary story ‘Forever Red’.
It is here that the Scorpion Rain hoax was taken to another level, as Forever Red was written to serve as a spiritual sequel to it, again involving Serpenterra, and tying up the final loose ends of Zeo  by seeing off both it and the Machine Empire.
While fans would engage in highly volatile debates over the place of Scorpion Rain in both  Power Rangers fanon and canon, the question of what actually happened between Zeo and Turbo officially still occupies fan’s minds today.
Coming in 2023, in time for Power Rangers 30th anniversary, Scorpion Rain will enter the fray again....not as a mini-series, not as a imaginary prequel to an official story, but as a fully illustrated ten page comic strip story.
Written by Zarius and illustrated by Xavier Rojo, Scorpion Rain: The Comic Strip is a unique tale loosely based off of the original story that hopes to answer fans burning questions over what exactly happened between Zeo and the Turbo movie
“Scorpion Rain has been at the forefront of my mind since I first learned about it years ago in the fandom. In the past I have seen many fans try to tell their own take on the tale in many fan-edits and fanfiction, but nobody has really taken a stab at turning it into a comic.
Due to how little it is known of it, my version of Scorpion Rain isn’t 100% true to the story, there are still elements of the original I’ve left intact (like the final act), but I’ve added a lot more meat to the few scraps of bone we were given to chew on.
There are easter eggs and cameos that set things up for Turbo and tie up a few extra loose ends. And the two pages we devote to Bulk and Skull are certainly all mine.
Scorpion Rain, I feel, is a story that definitely deserves a place in the ongoing PR tapestry, and shouldn’t be thought of as a crude joke or a frequently contested point.
This was born out of a desire for closure in the Power Rangers community, to give Zeo more of a deserving send-off rather than what it actually got.
My artist Xavier Rojo is a precision talent who many times over has over-delivered for me, and I know he will score a home run with this endeavour. If you enjoyed his work on my Spider-Man comic strips, you’re sure to like this.
A lot of thought and heart went into the hoax all those years ago, I just hope I match the Power they possessed with this take
You know what time it is guys!”

Power Rangers was my first true fandom. I adored it, it was my life as a 5 year old and my love for it, though frequently dormant, endured well into adulthood.
While I haven't watched the series regularly since I was 10, nostalgia keeps me coming back to anniversary episodes heavily featuring the original Mighty Morphin' crew, as well as the relatively recent Boom! comics, which are written more with those who grew up with the series in mind than the children who remain the target audience of the show proper.
The main thing that keeps me interested, keeps me coming back after decades is one of the key aspects that turned my like of the series into love:
Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger.
Putting it simply, Tommy was cool. He had a cooler, he had a better zord, in pretty much all ways he was designed to be better than the other rangers and was the codifier of the "Sixth Ranger" archetype.
I am not naive, of course, I understand now that much of this is down to the marketing and cynical business types who wished to drive toy sales and push the new character to their eager audience.
Nevertheless, aside from the superficial aspects, one thing that made Tommy Oliver stand out from the other rangers was due in no small part to Jason David Frank. He imbued the character with an initial darkness and latterly haunted nature which his villainous origins begat. His character proved so popular that when he was written out of the show (due to Saban running out of Green Ranger footage from the original Japanese show upon which it was based), the company was deluged with letters from angry fans and parents of distraught children, begging for his return. Thus he became the even newer, even shinier White Ranger, and over thebfollowing decade would go on to become the Red Zeo and Turbo rangers, as well as the Black Dino Thunder ranger, acting as a mentor to a new generation of Rangers.
This unprecedented career (both in and out of universe) has yet to be matched by any other ranger to grace the show, a tenure spanning over 200 episodes and 7 generations of Power Rangers. This is no doubt down to Jason David Frank's unwavering commitment to both show and character, long after his compatriots had moved on or grown jaded with the series (admittedly many for legitimate reasons). Most fans who encountered him said he was a class act and always took time to entertain them and make them feel valued.
In the waybthat any child can truly have a hero and understand what that means at five year's old, Tommy Oliver, and by extension Frank, was mine. He's the reason Green is my favourite colour, he's the spark of my interest in super heroes, he was a paragon of good in a classic battle of light and dark.
Earlier today news broke that Jason David Frank, had died aged 49. Further details would emerge that he had taken his own life. I am no stranger to celebrity death, nor even celebrities I have loved and admired; Satoshi Kon, Carrie Fisher, Kenny Baker, Chadwick Boseman, most recently Kevin Conroy. But none of those hit me with quite as hard of a gut punch as Jason David Frank. Whether it was the suddenness, the circumstances, the love I had for him as a child, I have no idea, but I am not ashamed to say I wept. My legs turned to jelly and I wept for a few moments in my wife's arms, trying to adequately explain what this man meant to me and why it was affecting me so much. A man whose actual career I had not regularly or actively consumed in over twenty years, and yet still had this hold over me, this enduring ember of admiration.
I do not wish to speculate over the reasons that may have contributed to his decision to end his life, but I can be secure at least in the knowledge that this was a man who gave everything for his fans and truly understood how much he was appreciated, and appreciated in return.
Rest in Peace, Jason David Frank, and may the Power protect you.
