Picross... my beloved who I replay over and over to beat my previous times. I played this before I even played twilight princess so it was so confusing having no idea what half of the images were fdhfkdsj. But it's a lot of fun (although you can't get it on the 3DS anymore).
Stickers are from the official legend of zelda sticker book and the picross images are printed from google.
Writing typed below!
Rating: 8.5 * see below Played: Fa 2022 Port: 3DS, My Nintendo Reward
Comments:
really good scaled difficulty
All TP themes
resetting is the WORST
*this won't be rated against other zelda/video games but rather as a logic puzzle game
a logic puzzle game that builds a pixel picture
love the drawings!!
horrible eyestrain
super addicting, i will be really sad when I complete everything
it's funny trying to figure out the drawing bc I haven't played twilight princess yet, oops!
definitely shouldn't do extremely tired, keep messing up
micross wasn't 80x80 but one 8x8 and the outcome of that determined how many 10x10s (57)
I wish mega picross wasn't exactly the same pictures as picross
omg little ribbons for completion
the link drawings were all so cute
a lot of repetition but was fun
is there sumo in TP???
took almost exactly 24 hours total (I have since replayed the levels and my puzzles are at like 9-10 hours total lol)
I wish there were more zeldas
46 unique, 91 puzzles total
Summary I've always been a big fan of logic puzzles so I knew I had to get this game when browsing the Nintendo rewards. I absolutely had a blast playing and it was obsessive. Some puzzles were a lot harder than others but that just added to the game since one difficulty wouldn't make it as fun. This definitely ranks as one of my favorite logic puzzle games. If there were more diversity between picross and mega picross I would've ranked this higher. Or if micross was 80x80 and not a race of how fast you can complete 57 10x10s. I absolutely recommend to anyone who loves zelda and games like Sudoku. I especially recommend to twilight princess fans bc I have no idea what I completed. A great game and hope there's more fun rewards like this when tears of the kingdom releases.

First real attempt at making digital art. Made this piece for all 54 games I enjoyed playing in 2023. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

What types of video games have you enjoyed playing the most? And do you have any favorite puzzle—solving video games?
Generally: adventure games (<3), jump-n-runs, action rpgs, 2D-horror games,
In detail:
Adventure games are always cool, though there’s a lot of genres in my catalog. There’s a bunch of games I enjoyed from genres I usually don’t like that much, mainly because they change up one or two things that technically don’t belong to a genre necessarily, but somehow still end up being in most do them.
For example how (sadly) a lot of round-based rpg‘s end up either a spam button marathon or grind fest. However there’s the Etrian Odyssey series (which I can’t keep shutting up about, I know) that makes you actually use skills and think about every encounter, plus you usually don’t have to grind unless you’ve switched a unit out or plan to defeat the post game final challenge end of the end- boss.
Same goes for other genres too (farming games: don‘t like how you’re always bound by the clock -> Shepherds crossing makes it advance via actions; don‘t like how all your progress gets nullified in roguelikes -> Hades lets you keep stuff and upgrade things after each run; and so on)
Also for puzzle games, I used to be Obsessed with Picross, specifically Pokémon Picross which was pretty much just made as a promotion for Gen 6, yet has quite a lot of content and is a nice spinoff. This then led to me stumbling upon and getting Twilight Princess Picross (which has way less content but is also way more hilarious in concept. Like Pokémon? I can see that. But the Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess? Why? Probably as a promo for HD but…why??)
If you like Picross I can very much recommend the picross Luna series on mobile, it has just…so many puzzles. Comes with a really cute stained glass fairytale aesthetic, plus unlockable story chapters you get by completing giant mosaic puzzles.
Aside from that, also came across a Professor Layton game one (the prequel one, I think that’s game number 4? Idk, I only played this one and the Ace Attorney Crossover.) They were both very fun!

Got any pets? black kitty called cabbage i fostered and then adopted. she's no thoughts head empty and that's why she won over my other 16 foster cats. /hj
Favorite time of year: autumn-ish or spring. don't do well in the heat but sad makes winter bad.
Some interests and things you like: comics&webtoons, puzzle games (picross, sudoku, etc), ultimate frisbee, tennis, hiking, traveling
Some funfacts & trivia about you:
-prefer crepes to pancakes
-don't leave me alone with a box of ice cream sandwiches for the love of-

-used to play ice hockey, played for bout 12 years. stopped due to injuries.
What non-Fire Emblem games do you play? ffxiv, zelda, tales of, undertale
Favorite Pokemon type & Pokemon: ghost, haunter
How did you get into Fire Emblem? smash bros /j i think my bro acquired a copy of fe7 and the rest is history
What Fire Emblem games have you played? 6 through current
First Fire Emblem game: 7
Favorite Fire Emblem game: hrkkk probably 7 but super fond of sacred stones n path of radiance too
Any Fire Emblem crushes? 😳
lmao
If you’ve played the following games, who was your first S support? Who would you S support nowadays?
- Awakening: mightve been chrom by accident n woulda been pissed about it. henry & gaius beloveds

Current TOA muses: hector, matthew, azama
Who was your first TOA muse? If you don’t have them anymore, could you see yourself picking them up again? ewan. some days i think i could.
Have you had any other TOA muses? florina, henry
Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? prickly, maybe. in general muses that allow me to explore… ewan is more outgoing than i will ever be, but lets himself feel petty or jealous. hector is brash, but struggling with an uncomfortable and unexpected weight on his shoulders. azama invites conflict like he needs it to breathe, while ive typically been averse to conflict. florina is timid but trying to grow stronger for her friends (and herself, she comes to realize). henry is… an oddball, idk how to describe what draws me to writing him. change of pace maybe? requires thinking outside the box with his unique worldview. i dont tend toward angst but matthew is a good output for it if im feelin it haha.
What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? i think i like. when threads start to come together. yknow in stories when you can start referring to things that have happened? and you're like "woah wait i know what that's referring to!!"
when you manage to reach a shared history ig? i know im p slow re. writing but i cherish the bonds and overarching/intertwined stories my muses wind up with. people you meet touch your life in ways you might not immediately fathom…
Favorite TOA-related memory: lots of lock & key justice shenanigans… bunker … enjoyed unscripted a whole heck of a lot as well
How do you pronounce TOA? 🤔 T-O-A. sounds fancier to spell it out haha
Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day that you’d like to share? 😉 felix, ike, kaze, serra, sain, naesala, ingrid, eldigan, bramimond, lethe, shinon, kliff… not so much delusions as "might be fun to explore…" – and i wouldn't trade our current reps of the above for the world ✌️

Hey Mun, after 7 years from release I finally got my hands on a Switch, which games should I look to play besides the free ones on eshop? (Reminder that each Big N own franchises' game here cost ~250 BRL, that's quite expensive considering the minimum wage of 1400 BRL). Ps: sent you a friend request there,i hope i got the right code
I'll have to check my friend requests a little later, then! As for game recommendations, I'll only give ones I've personally played, so... Games I highly recommend will be highlighted in blue. In the ~20-30 USD/~100-150 BRL range: Okami HD (no explanation necessary) Katamari Damacy: Reroll (another port/remake, but a fun time nonetheless) Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin (which is an excellent game if you like action platformers mixed with a rice farming simulator-- which is a lot more fun than it sounds Untitled Goose Game (Unbridled fun. You play as a horrible, horrible goose, and it is wonderful) Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony and its sequel (Touhou + Castlevania! Probably one of the most well-known Touhou fangames) Gensou Skydrift (Mario Kart, but Touhou!) Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (If you like the AA games, this is a good way to have 'em all in one place)
Some games in the ~15 USD/~75 BRL price range: Blossom Tales: The Sleeping King and Blossom Tales: The Minotaur Prince (An action RPG series very similar in gameplay to classic Zelda. They're very cute games) Murder by Numbers (A Picross game that has some Phoenix Wright elements, which also has music by the composer of Phoenix Wright, and art by the Hatoful Boyfriend artist!) Hollow Knight (if you like insects and really hard platformers) Stardew Valley (no explanation necessary, though if you already have it on PC, it's up to you if you want to double-dip)
Games below ~15 USD/~75 BRL: Kubinashi Recollection, a puzzle game which is a Touhou fangame, ~12 USD/~60 BRL. Yodanji, a Mystery Dungeon rougelike that's only ~5 USD/~25 BRL Kamiko, a top down arcade hack-and-slash, also only ~5 USD/~25 BRL Part Time UFO, a fun little physics puzzler by HAL, ~9 USD/45 BRL
And of course, there are the more expensive games, like the first party Nintendo titles, if you want to save up for them. You can't go wrong with any of the Zeldas: Link's Awakening, BotW, or TotK, though TotK's price is OOF. Pokemon Legends Arceus is genuinely the best Pokemon game we've had in ages, it's unironically really good. If you like 3D Mario, Super Mario Odyssey is definitely a must-have. 2D Mario is more your thing? Super Mario Maker 2. Do you like Toad? Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. And of course, there's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I would always recommend checking out what's on sale, too. Sometimes, there are some hidden gems in there. You just gotta sift through the crap-- and on that note, if you see a game in the eShop with a banner at the top, AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS, IT IS RANK GARBAGE. (I highly suggest you watch AntDude's video, Nintendo eShop Regrets, in order to better learn how to recognize the games you should avoid.)

LAST DAY TO DOWNLOAD FREE 3DS GAMES! go ahead and grab these while you can:
Pokemon Picross (allows you to hack your 3ds at any future date, absolute top priority)
Swapdoodle (kind of like an upgraded pictochat if that's something you're into)
Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo challenge (cute little Mario game for people with lots of amiibos—or those who make a lot of nfc cards)
Stretchmo (puzzle game)
Pokemon Rumble World (beat-em-up)
Pokemon Shuffle (puzzle game)
these ones are not exactly free but still worth considering:
Pokemon Bank (free initial download, but in order to use it at any future date you MUST pay $5 in order to download the internal app, Pokemon Transfer. After the eshop closes both apps will be free to use for those who have already downloaded them, so the $5 is a one-time purchase.)
Zelda: Twilight Princess Picross (can be purchased with Platinum Points, not cash. available here)

Chase Koeneke's Top 25 Game Boy & Game Boy Color Games
The final part in GOTG's GB & GBC Top 25 coverage, make sure you check out my good friend Giggy's list, as well as the shared list we made together on the most recent episode of the podcast.
While the NES was my very first brush with video games, it wasn’t until the Game Boy that I truly fell in love with gaming. For a kid who got taken on a lot of long car trips, it was a godsend (both to me, but probably even more so to my parents, who could drive in relative peace). I dumped hundreds of hours into many of these games, and some of them continue to rank within my all-time favorites.
25. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
24. Kirby Tilt ‘n’ Tumble
23. Pokemon Pinball
22. Tiny Toons Adventures: Babs’ Big Break
21. Metal Gear Solid (Ghost Babel)
20. Shantae
19. Harvest Moon 3 GBC
18. Balloon Kid
17. Mario’s Picross
16. Mole Mania
15. Mega Man V
14. Super Mario Land
13. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
12. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
11. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX
10. Mario Tennis
I’m not usually a big sports game guy. I find the ways devs abstract a sport through mechanics interesting, but often, their efforts fall short. I’d prefer to just hitting the batting cages than play Game Boy Baseball, y’know? But that’s not the case with Mario Tennis. Camelot aced this one, with simple, responsive controls that offered hidden depth in its strategic play. And the light RPG elements let you shape your character to better fit your play style (then import that character into the N64 incarnation!)
9. Warlocked
I didn’t grow up with a PC, so the real-time strategy genre was always something of a mystery to me. Warlocked was the first RTS I ever got my hands on, and while I can’t say it’s a particularly glowing example of the genre, the fact it even works on a Game Boy Color is astonishing to me. I ran the wheels off this game, playing through both its campaigns and collecting all the colorful wizard characters (Sweatwiz for life!)
8. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Zelda continues to not be my thing, but the Oracle games are generally my favorites of the entire franchise (which feels wrong since they’re made by Capcom). Of the pair, I prefer Seasons’ mechanics. Plus, I really love exploring Subrosia — a volcanic land sitting right below the overworld — and interacting with its Jawa-looking residents. Most people are going to prefer Link’s Awakening, and that’s fine, but for my money, Oracle of Season is the way to go.
7. Donkey Kong ’94
It’s unfair how good this game is. The movement tech Mario can achieve is unreal, and it forever changed the way we think about Mario’s moveset. If you’ve ever enjoyed the triple jumps of Super Mario 64 or the cap throwing and diving of Mario Odyssey, you have DK ’94 to thank for inspiring it all. This game takes the original arcade game, and expands it into one of the greatest puzzle-platformers of all time.
6. Tetris
It’s Tetris. I mean, what else needs to be said? Later versions have added slight tweaks to the formula in the form of T-spins or holding pieces that make them arguably better, but whenever I want to play some Tetris, this is always the one I reach for.
5. Kirby’s Dream Land 2
Tumblr media
Creator Masahiro Sakurai has said the original Kirby’s Dream Land is all about introducing people to what a platform game is. Dream Land 2, in my opinion, is about introducing you to what they can be. The copy abilities brought in from Kirby’s Adventure are expanded threefold with the addition of Kirby’s animal companions, and the music from the battle with King Dedede still bangs. This will forever be my favorite Kirby game.
4. Mario Golf
Tumblr media
I gushed about Mario Tennis above, but it can feel repetitive at times as you play set after set on nearly-identical courts. Mario Golf brings in everything good about Tennis (the RPG elements, character importing, great controls) and applies it to a sport that naturally has a little more variety through its courses, challenging you to approach them in different ways. Pick up both if you can, but if you only have room for one, Golf is the way to go.
3. Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal
Tumblr media
The second generation of Pokemon games add so much to the series, both from a mechanical perspective with new types, held items, additional HM moves, breeding and more. But maybe more importantly, Gold, Silver and Crystal surprise and delight in a way that make you feel like you’re in a living and breathing world. It can be annoying for those going back to the games now, but having a real-time day and night cycle affecting the Pokemon you could catch felt revolutionary. And weekly events like the bug-catching contest or a Lapras that only appeared on certain days made you want to explore (and re-explore) every area in the game. Last, but certainly not least, going back to Kanto in the postgame continues to be one of the coolest surprises a game can throw at you.
2. Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow
Tumblr media
…But even if all of the above is true, it’s not the original. Red, Blue and Yellow, while often a broken, buggy mess, got so much right on their first try. I think a lot of it is the sense of ownership I got through playing. When you pick up a Mario or a Zelda game, you’re playing as those characters, escaping into their shoes. With Pokemon, those were my shoes, and the creatures beside me were ones I raised and trained. It was all my adventure. And that made it all the more special.
1. Pokemon Trading Card Game
Tumblr media
There’s something about card games though. All my Pokemon card friends just wanted to collect them, to keep them in binders and show them off. I always wanted to play the actual game, but would never have anyone to play against. That is, until this came out. Now I had a bevy of computer opponents to face off with, and every win would grant me the dopamine rush of ripping open virtual card packs to further enhance my decks. Even if the card game its based on is a little unbalanced, it’s still one of my favorite games ever, and my favorite Game Boy title of all-time.
