I started typing and it got out of control...

I don't know if you've watched Ever After High or not, but I've been re-watching the entire show on account of not having much to do and I've come to the conclusion that an LU crossover with EAH would be absolutely awesome. The general idea is that characters from fairytales grow up and have kids that re-enact their parents' stories and this happens over and over again to the point that their entire society is built around this. Since they have a magic book that kind of seals your fate if you sign it, this is where the conflict of the show comes from.

Obviously there are a few different ways a person could go about setting this up but I'm just going to pick out fairy tale parents and backstories for them because I think that's the most fun.

Warriors: I'm thinking that he'd be best as Helen of Troy. Greek mythology is canon in EAH because of Cupid, so it works. The same themes of lust and infatuation are present. Also war.

Wild: He fits Sleeping Beauty's story the most, but that's already taken so the next best thing is Rip Van Winkle. It's only 20 years compared to 100, but I think it's the closest I'm getting for now, and the point is that he wakes up as an old man.

Sky: I think he should be the guy from the jabberwocky poem that uses the vorpal sword to defeat it. The jabberwocky is supposed to be the most powerful monster in EAH last I checked, so it would be the closest equivalent to Demise other than the Evil Queen.

Legend: Given that wizards are supposed to live a long time, Merlin would be a good fit for Legend because he'd have a few centuries to finish growing up into a mature wizard. He could still be a veteran of adventures this way without sacrificing his magical abilities.

Twilight: Unfortunately there aren't really any stories about wolves that aren't villains so he's tragically stuck being a non-descript farmer. I'm so sorry. Under other circumstances he'd get to be one the guy from "East of the Sun and West of the Moon" except that guy is a bear and not a wolf.

Wind: I'm torn between picking an infamous pirate or a story from mythology. Either one would probably work, to be honest, but it would probably work better if Tetra was a pirate's daughter and he's related to a deity in charge of ocean storms.

Hyrule: Ended up picking Jack the Giant Killer for him because that story's about surviving because you're clever, and Hyrule's games are supposed to be ridiculously hard. Also there's a magic sword involved.

Four: With the Minish he could totally fit into the story about the little elves that help the tailor/cobbler. But there's a story called "The Four Skillful Brothers" and I can't say no because it literally ends with them rescuing the princess via teamwork and splitting the reward.

Time: I feel like he'd fit in best as some kind of forest spirit or changeling, but as the Hero's Shade he could also be Godfather Death. I've been thinking about it and I really can't come up with a good placement for him.

Spirit Tracks Link gets an honorary mention because he is canon in my heart. Since New Hyrule is in the middle of the industrial revolution he's probably more of an urban legend. Either the ghost of a train conductor's kid or a guy cursed to see ghosts like his Zelda.

On principle, I find Disney’s portrayal of the princes as very shallow and gender-norm enforcing (i’m sorry I feel very strongly abt this😅) we are not fans so instead I’d probably go for what Disney princess movie fits the vibe of which member when I assign them to princes. I’m also going to be rewriting that movie as I go, sorry in advance to the purists

Jiwoong: The Beast/Prince Adam

If this man could play a Prince in a drama, this is the kind of content I’d pay for

Just like my hogwarts headcanon, man probably invited the sorceress to dinner and asked to be turned into a beast because everyone just liked his face

And he thought he’d be better off if someone liked his personality

Yes he asks for his servants to be turned into furniture for shit and giggles but not like permanently, maybe they all go back to normal at night

reader wonders why he always insist not that they don’t go to the west wing at night. It’s not just the rose but that’s where he and the servants go to like chill and be their human selves (this is getting a little Cupid and psyche lol)

Hao: Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid)

Just the scene of him playing his violin and mer reader listening from a distance

Sometimes they sing along while Hao is playing and Hao is like woah who dat

They probably met as kids and he gave mer reader his old violin because they were curious

Definitely have it displayed in the center of their collection

Wants to be human to hear Hao play more

Hanbin: Prince Charming (Cinderella)

If this man isn’t Prince Charming, idk who is, do not argue with me

Does not have a shoe fetish

Definitely remembers reader’s face, he just wants to return their shoe bruh

And maybe ask reader out idk, not marry them right away

Just imagine dancing with Hanbin to “So this is love” and tell me u aren’t soft

He gets his whole character development arc and becomes a better young and rich, tall and handsome Prince that’s totally down bad for reader

This man steals hearts everywhere he goes (I mean he won every challenge yo)

A lot goofy like they told him during the sleepover, he’s lucky he’s got a nice face

FEA character mini-analyses: black eagles as rebels

Today I feel like explaining why I cast characters the way I did in FEA (my ongoing 3H/EAH crossover fic)! If all goes well this'll be a four-part series--one each for the three houses and one last post for the house lords + Rhea. (I'm sorry Ashen Wolves fans... I'll talk about Yuri in the last post, but I don't think there's much I can say for the rest of his house.)

Now without further ado, let us begin!

Hubert as Faybelle Thorn: let's raise a cheer for everyone's favorite dark fairy!! (please don't this is cursed enough. haha get it? cursed, because he's--) As we all know the most important thing about Hubert von Vestra is his impeccable sense of style, and Faybelle's aesthetic is the only one that comes close. The only major difference between these two characters is that Faybelle is spiteful, while Hubert is simply ruthless. And I think it's enough to make him a Rebel, as the Dark Fairy's actions are nothing but petty. With his father's role being stolen by the Evil Queen, I thought this would add an interesting dimension to his loyalty to Edelgard (whereas Faybelle hates Raven for it). Also, Faybelle's pet is canonically a pomeranian puppy named Spindle, and I wanted to give Hubie a pomeranian puppy named Spindle.

Ferdinand as C.A. Cupid: I needed something to replace nobility as the virtue around which he centers his life, so naturally I decided on the most entertaining alternative--love. In this AU, destiny-bound "true love" serves as a good enough parallel to the corruption of Fódlan nobility. So while he may have some disagreements with Edelgard, he can't argue with her understanding of destiny. Giving him big ol' wings makes him even more annoying to her, which is exactly what I want. ... Okay, yes, I did make him Cupid just because it was the only way I could include "Ferdinand von Aegir Cupid" in this AU.

Bernadetta as Cerise Hood: yes, it does hurt me that Bernadetta's color palette clashes horribly with the RRH aesthetic, but what can a girl do they're the perfect match! Of course Bernie would be shy and reclusive if her father was the freaking Big Bad Wolf. And who wouldn't be anxious having to hide a secret like that in the woods, constantly surrounded by the vicious Wolf people? Of course I couldn't make her as extremely nervous as she was in 3H, but uh. I don't think anyone minds. (We are kicking Count Varley out of the picture by the way please forget he ever existed.)

Petra as Cedar Wood: the only princess besides Edelgard in 3H may be a mere commoner in this retelling, but real queens need no crowns. Cedar's desire to understand humans is the closest in-universe to Petra's desire to understand Fódlan (even if they're for different reasons). Furthermore, I find Petra's honesty works well with Cedar's curse--they're both so endearing for it.

Dorothea as Meeshell Mermaid: we shall forever mourn the lost potential of Meeshell, but Dorothea is a whole other story. Voice of an angel, check. Renowned beauty, check. Most importantly, her longing to be truly seen and loved, check. Let's not forget the Little Mermaid was treated as little more than a pretty plaything in the prince's court, never truly seen by the man she loved. Canon Dorothea fears exactly that. Her being a Rebel is just too perfect.

Linhardt as Briar Beauty: I don't think I need to explain myself here? But... the tricky part about him is that Linhardt would never in a million years be unsatisfied with his destiny. I had to lure him to the dark side with lots of enticing research opportunities on the true nature of destiny-bound curses and succession laws, because of what happened with his mom's story (Evil Queen stealing Dark Fairy's role and all). Anyway, I love imagining him with green crownglasses and the fact that his personality is the polar opposite of Briar's will never not be hilarious.

Caspar as... the son of the White Queen??: yeah so the White Queen doesn't have a kid in EAH; I just couldn't think of anything more suiting for Caspar, both in personality and appearance (a bonus, in my book!). Now technically most of the Wonderlandians are Golden Deer, but like... who cares. Also, it's adorable to picture Caspar having normal conversations with his mom, who is the princesses' advisor, and they're quite literally just shouting at each other. Even if they're on opposite sides of the destiny conflict, I feel like they'd have the sweetest relationship.

And that, my folksies, is that.

Confession: before starting this fic, the Black Eagles were my least favorite house. I didn't understand them at all, but now I am so glad I do. They got that Rebel heart, lads.

Does anyone else think that it was kinda strange that EAH did a crossover with MH (monster high)? If anything a Greek/Norse gods and goddess crossover would have made more sense. I love the way the characters were drawn. Their outfits and color palettes. So I love to see Athena, Hera, and Perpsohone and the others and their kids in that style. AND THOR AND LOKI?! I DO LIKE CUPID! Don't get me wrong. But if there was ever going to be a EAH reboot I would want Cupid to still be in it BUT I think she's the only part of Monster High that I want in it.

Q: The Senshi suddenly find themselves in a very different animated world. Which cartoon power (think Looney Tunes) do they each now possess?

* Usagi can make literal rainbows happen when she smiles. Rei can set anything on fire with her mind (she feels a bit cheated because she can do that at home too). Ami can write down anything in her special notebook and it literally changes reality around her (she does not share this with her fellow Senshi, because she knows the full weight of this power. She did, however, write Michiru having a bad hair day for just one day. Just one.) Makoto has the ability to pull out any ingredient she wants from any pantry/door/closet. She usually uses this for cooking purposes, so she won't have to purchase groceries. Minako has the ability to mimic any voice in the world, whether she has heard it or not. Hijinks ensue. The Outer Senshi sensibly escaped from the new animated world right after Michiru recovered from her bad hair day. They don't speak of the experience. -- @amberlilly [The whole thing was so solid, but what absolutely sent it over the top for me was Ami using her powers to fuck with Michiru in the most petty benign way, which is EVERYTHING.]

* Usagi is definitely rocking the exaggerated tear gushers. Ami can pull charts/diagrams out of nowhere at any time. Rei combusts when she gets sufficiently mad. Makoto has birds fly around when she sings while cooking or cleaning. Minako breaks the fourth wall to make jokes and asides to the audience. Chibi-Usa is somehow able to walk through ludicrous danger without getting touched, because the censors won't allow kids to be hurt in this show. Haruka can make girls melt into puddles of goo with her flirting. Michiru can summon a servant at any time to take care of an unpleasant or potentially dirty task for her (including to take the slapstick comedy for her). Setsuna has access to the script. Hotaru just sort of appears sometimes, just standing there, silently and menacingly, but never does anything on-screen (though you may hear the occasional off-screen screaming). Oh, and while I'd like to say Mamoru gains the power of inexplicable entrances... he kinda already has that one. --Darkcloud k'California [Again, I loved all these, but particularly Chibs saved by the censors, Michiru’s poor hapless slapstick avatar, and everything about Hotaru, thank you.]

* Usagi: The power to be found charming by every character she encounters and somehow escape all consequences and damage by simply remaining oblivious, a la Tweety Bird.

Rei: The power to explode, reducing her surroundings to charred wasteland, but remain relatively unscathed (perhaps a bit singed)

Ami: The power to grow multiple arms, hands, and hundreds of fingers in order to do tech stuff

Makoto: The power to punch someone through a brick wall, possibly several, and into someone's family dinner. It's always some surprised-looking family's private event. Often the same family.

Minako: the power to, Bugs Bunny style, apply lipstick and seduce ANYTHING. Which, according to her, is a power she already has.

Haruka: The power to run off a cliff and keep going until she looks down. She never learns to not look down.

Michiru: The power to stick a pin into any other character and cause them to deflate like a balloon

Hotaru: She just gets to actually be used. It is thrilling.

Pluto: She will observe this strange planet from afar with her huge telescope and breathe the Martian air and look great in a kilt and Roman-style helmet. -- @incorrecttact [Your set-up and punchline delivery style on all of these was perfection, and I legit lol’d at Mako and the poor family she continually interrupts.]

* to make dynamite go BOOM (Rei obviously); to have their opponent chase them to the point where they're floating in midair and then their opponent falls 5000 feet but they calmly walk back to land (like Wil E Coyote & the Roadrunner) (Usagi); the power to blow kisses to their opponent (which are clearly poisonous and end up killing the chap) (Minako); the power to have their opponent's entire arm shattered if they try to even punch them lightly on the arm (Makoto - this is canon anyways, but moreso exaggerated here hehe); to open a book and start reading it out loud and words start showing up on screen, confusing tf out of their opponent (Ami - also canon already) --@midnightdrops [Each of these were great, but Usagi and Mako as you described them totally sold me.]

* usagi: can now float on yummy aromas, so long as they lead her somewhere tasty! the others play a quick tournament of jun-ken-pon each time it happens to determine who will be responsible for steering her from blissfully drifting into traffic. again.

ami: is now possessed of x-ray vision! only she can neither turn it off, nor control its intensity. she is working on developing a set of goggles to dampen the effect, and secretly hopes they will make her look like geordi laforge.

rei: rei-chan is now blessed with the power of song! her heartfelt melodies soften the malice of even the most one-dimensional baddie, and influence public policy on a global scale. international success life, yo! i guess she's really a hard worker!

makoto: has become something of a cartoon cupid! in a poorly-ventilated room, her mere presence has bystanders declaring their love for one another within minutes*; and her decadent wedding cakes are the hit of second marriages across the country. *all of them so like her old senpai, and none of them falling for her, alas!

minako: employs her considerable powers of confidence and charm to convince the others she now has access to Plot Manipulation, mainly by engineering and taking ownership of a series of happy accidents. her real power is to literally jump out of her skin when she's startled*, and she has no intention of EVER letting the others know about it. *minako discovered this new ability while she was changing a roll of toilet paper, and a spider dropped onto her hand. the leader of the inner senshi had never been so horrified. her bones were so slick and cold, her skin a hideous unwiped pile, and then THE SPIDER CRAWLED INTO THE PILE and she STILL doesn't know if it ever got out and sometimes her skin itches REALLY bad and you know what let's stop talking about this right now okay???

setsuna: can now manifest a giant pencil and erase the enemy! but doing so would be breaking The Greatest Taboo, and leave her impaled upon the pencil.

haruka: her new empathetic ability is remarkably similar to Ma-Ti's "heart" ring (Captain Planet and the Planeteers, 1990 - 1996). basically, she's just like really soft at you, and it inspires you to take more positive actions toward yourself and the world at large? she protests about wishing she'd received something tough and intimidating, but secretly is very moved by being made an instrument of kindness.

michiru: her intuition has mutated into fourth wall awareness, and the subtlety with which she makes this known to you is SO GODDAMN UNCOMFORTABLE OH MY GOD

hotaru: can now not only communicate with inanimate objects, but also render them permanently animate! you should have been there during the princess tutu crossover episode when she met lamp-chan - they're STILL inseparable, and chibiusa is SUPER jealous. speaking of which,

chibiusa: can now use hammerspace to store her endless series of magical geegaws and weird animal boyfriends. -- @rasiqra-revulva [Dude, you have got to stop making me snort laugh, it’s RUDE. Pure solid gold, every word, with a special nod to Haruka, MICHIRU, and Minako’s extended tragic cartoon backstory.]

* Usagi - like her name suggests, she is now Bunny. By which I mean she is now a very pink and blonde bunny (somewhere between Bugs and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit), but with super-elastic limbs to accompany her new form. Ami - Magical Science Powers up to and including ‘mix one brightly colored liquid in flask with another brightly colored liquid in flask, explosion, get hammer.’ Rei - An infinite supply of dynamite she can pull out of nowhere. This shouldn’t be as useful as it is. Mako - Literally suplexed a giant metallic youma not just untransformed, but before she has Senshi powers at all. I fully believe she could lift an anvil in canon. Minako - While Usagi looks like a rabbit, Mina now has the supernatural trickster abilities of Bugs Bunny. Implausibly effective bad disguises, persuasion, showing up out of nowhere. Chibs - Now that gun from her first appearance is a real gun, but it shoots anything from normal bullets to pies in the face to live birds. Pluto - The fourth wall is a real and tangible thing. Pluto can not just break it, but control it. If she wants to remove a layer of cel or suddenly turn things into sketch, she can do it. If she wants to teleport, she can skip in the animation. If she wants to suddenly appear as a Roger Rabbit-style cartoon in a live action field, or vice versa? Yeah, she can do that too. She basically uses this power to warp the layers of her cartoonish reality for pastry acquisition. Haruka - You’d think it would be Roadrunner speed. Haruka thinks it will be Roadrunner speed. But no, it isn’t. Space Jam is Looney Tunes, and Haruka’s power is Basketball. Michiru - Another power that’s just canonical: Wealth. Ridiculous, tremendous wealth. Hotaru - The funniest thing for Hotaru to be in a zany cartoon world is Even More Spooky. Nothing changes except the artstyle and a ridiculous supervillain cape. -- Regalli [Pluto, man. Fantastic and brilliant and I legit WANT THIS. Also though, Hotaru with a cape.]

* Usagi gains the ability to eat anything and everything like the Tazmanian Devil, though she shares none of his aggressive personality; Minako enjoys fucking with people by bending reality (you know, diving into painted tunnels and stuff like that); Ami is able to utilize and test unreal technology without harm, like jet boots, massive bombs, tornado seeds, etc.; Mako uses body manipulations to change her size and shape--especially for blocking attacks to protect people or grabbing people (coupled with her immense strength); and Rei is the only one aware of the audience beyond the Fourth Wall... She tries not to talk to them but sometimes she just can't help it, especially when Usagi is getting on her nerves. -- @thehubby [I said pander to me, and you absolutely did. I can’t stop thinking about Rei trying not to make fourth wall eye contact, then just whirling around all “CAN YOU FUCKING BELIEVE THIS SHIT??!?” and as it turns out, that IS precisely what I wanted.]

· Who is your least favorite character in 1? Aang (don’t get me wrong, I love him, but all the characters are sooooo good and he is just slightly less awesome with his whole toxic ‘good guy’ attitude)

· Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple? I would say Zuko and Katara but they are practically canon so maybe Ty Lee and Zuko? Weird, I know, but I could dig it

· Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5? Sherlock

· Which has better theme music, 2 or 4? Game of Thrones. Ramin Djawadi kept showing up the writers with how well he understood the characters

What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*I don’t entirely understand Rochelle/Venus? Or Lagoona/Venus, actually. They don’t bother me I just don’t understand where they came from?

Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*Abbey/Frankie, Frankie/Draculaura and to a different extent Clawdeen/Draculaura (in that I definitely thin Clawdeen has a crush on Lala but she doesn’t feel the same)

Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?About MH? Nope!

Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*Um…sort of? I don’t care for Frankie/Neighthan Rot at all. To my knowledge it isn’t popular?

Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*No, thankfully XD; The MH fandom, at least in my experience, is pretty chill in that regard.

Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*Uh…you know what? I’m not sure. I think I’ve grown to appreciate more ships in this fandom through art and doll photos, though I may not ship them myself.

Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*I don’t think so? Nothing’s coming to mind.

Have you received anon hate? What about?*Not hate, per say but I did receive what seemed like a ‘scolding’ anon about Isi Dawndancer shipping. That was it though.

Most disliked character(s)? Why?I still don’t like Toralei. She’s annoying. So are her friends. Also, I don’t like Gory. However, I’d rather them than some of the sillier reboot monsters. I just cringe when I see them, they feel so out of place and sometimes disrespectful to the franchise as I knew it.

Most disliked arc? Why?Uh…there really aren’t any big arcs in Monster High. I think the closest I’ve seen is the Gloom Beach/Fearleading one from way back. After that, the writing team stuck to smaller (and sometimes rushed) narratives. I will say I was sick to death of Gil/Lagoona by the end of gen1 and I’m really not big on Boo York either…but that’s a movie.

Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?I don’t think so? I mean…C.A. Cupid is like my third fave MH character but I don’t think people dislike her so much as she’s not quite as popular as EAH Cupid? Purely because she was barely in Monster High.

Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?I don’t know, actually.

Unpopular opinion about XXX character?I…can’t think of one. Most of my unpopular opinions involve shipping ^^;

Unpopular opinion about your fandom?I think some of my sexuality headcanons differ from the fandom’s but that’s neither here nor there. I like the MH fandom a lot, they’ve been nothing but nice to me; I don’t have any real complaints!

Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?I wish there was a manga! The anime art style was super cute.As for the animated media…there’s so much now. I’m not sure what the general consensus about each one is. I do know some fans don’t realize there was a brief anime short series, one whose set up I’ve praised time and again (though still not big on the characterizations.)I guess my extreme dislike of the ghoul squad might seem unpopular to me, especially when I see a lot of folks drawing the reboot designs? I don’t know XD;

If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?I’d have nixed the reboot and focused on better story and world building for the franchise. Gone ahead with the crossover movie but given it way more thought beforehand. After that, I’d develop a side-series revolving around younger monster siblings and market that to kids instead of ruining what already existed.See here for details.

Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…*points to above* Also, I would’ve loved to see Andy Beast receive more development. I really liked him as a character and his potential with Frankie.

Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?No, it just means you don’t ship it. Simple as that.

What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?I don’t really hate anything about this fandom. It’s a lot of fun!

What is the purest ship in the fandom?Uh…I don’t know! All my ships are weird and I have no idea what the general consensus about popular ones is. Maybe Cleo/Deuce? That’s what a lot of people say, I think, although I don’t entirely agree? (I really like the ship but I think ‘pure’ may be an exaggeration)

What are your thoughts on crack ships?Go for it! Shipping is for fun and that includes crackships!

Popular character you hate?Toralei…? Maybe…? Is she considered popular?

Unpopular character you love?Again, I’m not sure so I’m going to say either Batsy Claro and/or C.A. Cupid.

Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not?Monster High? Only if I knew that sort of thing might appeal. I think half the fun of loving MH is appreciating gothic fashion and monsters. Definitely not the only reasons but it’s certainly a draw!

How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?Gen1 didn’t end conclusively. It just kind of stopped with a brief and half-arsed wrap-up episode. If it had to end I would’ve done so with the crossover movie since fans have been waiting for years.

Most shippable character?Draculaura

Least shippable character?It depends on who you ask! I think Elissabat is kind of hard to ship and Meowlody&Purrsephone too.

As of this hour, my top OTPs are Penelope/Schneider from ODAAT and Joyce/Hopper from Stranger Things. But I have endless numbers of them, even within each fandom.

B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind

Jean/Alice from TDBM.

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will (be nice)

Um…hmm. I’m such a multishipper, I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about my NOTPs. I’ve never been onboard the Keens from The Blacklist, though. Not even a little. I only enjoyed Tom in his original villainous state.

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t (again: be nice)

A couple of my spouse’s faves, I really wish I liked too, especially Sam/Josh and Mal/Simon. I don’t like one of the characters in each very much, so I’ve never been able to get into them–even though I understand them, and have had fun writing them…I just don’t love them too.

E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what

Yeah, mostly graphics, though. I don’t think I’ve ever written crackfic. I did New York Times Minus Content edits for TDBM, a ton of those. Also Sext Message Error sets for Lizzington and for Josh/Donna. And Welcome To Nightvale sets for iZombie and Lizzington. And OTP Bot sets for Lizzington.

And this isn’t EXACTLY crack, but my original tumblr claim to fame was this Hamilton/TWW crossover that got reblogged by Lin himself.

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom

Mm, the first time I actively joined a fandom was Buffy, and I was about 14 when that started for me…so as of this year I’ll have been in that fandom for 20 years! But I’ve been a fangirl literally my whole life, I just didn’t really join fandoms before the internet, and I started using the internet more in junior high and HS.

G - Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it

Lou/Joey from Brotherly Love, or Claire/Trevor from Cupid (original run), or Dharma and Greg, or Allison/Wade from CryBaby, or Idgie/Ruth from Fried Green Tomatoes. I was a shipping prodigy, and the couples I was obsessed with as a literal child blur together a bit in the timeline, so I’m not completely sure which came first.

H - What is your favorite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., tv shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)

TV shows.

I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why

The Aaron Tveit fandom made me uncomfortable watching BrainDead before I even had the chance to decide if I liked it or not. Most fandoms I love, though. I prefer to ignore the drama and focus on the people I actually like.

J - Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr

SO MANY. Parks and Rec, TDBM, Stranger Things…a significant portion of my watchlist comes from this hellsite by now–I have friends with good taste.

K -Say something nice about someone in any of your fandoms

@mossdonnatella is in a lot of my fandoms. She is a much better fic writer than she thinks she is!!

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike)

I really ended up disliking Jacob a lot, on Grace and Frankie. But I will say that in the beginning he is very respectful of Frankie’s boundaries and tries to be patient with her, and I did like that.

M - Say something genuinely nice about a ship that you don’t ship (or its shippers, or anything related to you)

I don’t actively ship Jancy on Stranger Things after seeing S1 (I don’t really ship Steve/Nancy either, though…I think I mostly just ship Nancy x happiness) but the moment when her mom knocks on her bedroom door and they reach for each others’ hands instinctively? That is a damn fine understated sweet connection moment and I really enjoyed and believed it.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice)

Okay since a lot of my top fandoms are for shows that ended a long time ago, I’m going with One Day At A Time. In fic or in canon, I want to see a lot more of Schneider being Penelope’s BFF and her confidant. I want more serious!Schneider moments bc it turns out the actor rocks at them, and I want to see Pen really get to move on from Victor as her kids get older, I want real confirmation that she’s finally past any possibility of reconciliation with him bc she deserves SO MUCH BETTER.

O - Choose a song at random, which ship or character does it remind you of

Randomizing my music gave me “Quiet” by MiLCK feat. GW Sirens and Capital Blend.

Sample lyrics:

Alright, I’m gonna invent one right off the top of my head right here and now since you asked. Um… a One Day At A Time AU in which Penelope meets Schneider not as her landlord but as a patient, once she becomes an NP. Doctor/patient “okay if you won’t stop asking me out then get a new doctor so I can say yes” fluff ensues.

Q - A ship you’ve abandoned and why

Lizzington. I’m technically still writing fic for it bc I have a chapter fic to finish, but I haven’t watched the show in years, I avoid content for it, and have no interest in it anymore besides the phantom limb feeling of having been so invested in a ship for that long and making friends around it.

R - A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships

Well, since I mentioned it earlier, I think I’m the only person ever to watch the scenes Bud and Brianna have together in Grace and Frankie and think “that should really be a thing.”

Also…Kate/Donna from The West Wing. Based entirely on one scene.

I genuinely don’t understand this question, sorry. What’s an ‘example’ of my headcanon, and how does that relate to prompts? If somebody wants to explain this to me, I’ll answer it.

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)

Yep yep yep. Andy was the leak, not Toby, and that is the hill I will die on always. I’m sure I have others, but that’s the big one.

Every single one of these tiny Stranger Things children in S1 is the epitome of epic friendship and I love it. Mike jumps off a cliff to protect Dustin and Dustin’s willing to get his teeth cut out to protect Mike and Lucas offers a sincere apology when he’s wrong, something most adults still suck at, and Will tells Mike the truth even when he would benefit from lying and Eleven chooses death to save them all and they are beautiful and perfect and I love them.

#Arrow Season 5 recap

Season 6 premieres tomorrow, so here’s a little run of the last season in case you’ve forgotten.

Legacy: Team Arrow is a little short staffed without Laurel and Diggle and Thea, and Oliver, being Oliver, tries to take it on himself (with Felicity of course). Since Oliver can’t feasibly be the mayor, protect the city and sleep, Felicity recommends that he recruit some of the new vigilantes running around. Oliver resists until a new bad guy, Tobias Church, comes on the scene. Flashbacks are of Oliver and introduction into the Bratva. Introduction of Billy Malone. Laurel’s memorial service and statue unveiling.

The Recruits: Oliver trains the Wild Dog, Curtis, and Evelyn, hereafter referred to as the B team, as the Green Arrow and trains them the same way the Bratva trained him. It doesn’t go well and he reveals himself to them so they unquit. Introduction of Rag Man and Prometheus. Diggle gets screwed. Lance becomes Deputy Mayor.

A Matter of Trust: The unkillable drug dealer Derek Sampson. Introduction of Adrian as the DA and Susan Williams. Diggle hallucinates Deadshot and Lyla asks Oliver to break him out of prison. I’m never going to get over the fact that they killed Deadshot just so they could make a mediocre movie.

Penance: Lyla and Oliver team up to break Diggle out of prison without Felicity’s approval. Flashback of Oliver killing a guy to get Kovar’s location and officially becomes Bratva. The B team tries to take on church and Rene, Wild Dog, gets captured.

Human Target: They find Rene, but not before he breaks. Human Target gets shot so people think Oliver’s dead. He later apologizes. Oliver finds out that Felicity is dating Billy and Billy becomes part of the ACU. Oliver tries to get Susan Williams to back off and she get photos of him in Russia. Prometheus kills Tobias Church.

So It Begins: The A team tells the B team about the Throwing Star Killer, aka Prometheus. The B team learns about Oliver’s list because Prometheus is using it. Evelyn is especially peeved, and continues to be until Oliver saves her life from Prometheus. Prometheus is using Oliver’s melted down arrows in his throwing stars. Felicity tells Billy that she works for the Green Arrow and he’s cool with it. Lance is framed as Prometheus. Flashback Oliver learns to build bombs. Introduction of Dolph Lundgren as Kovar.

Vigilante: Obviously the introduction of vigilante. Thea takes Lance to rehab. Evelyn is a traitor. Diggle tires of life on the run and gets to see his baby boy.

Invasion!: This is the crossover and would honestly take another whole article to explain, so I’m going to go really bare bones here. The Arrow portion of the crossover involves Oliver being stuck in a past where he never got on the Queen’s Gambit. It’s the 100th episode and it’s wonderful.

What We Leave Behind: Prometheus attacks Curtis and in turn breaks up his relationship. The drug Prometheus used on Curtis is connected to Justin Claybourne, a man on the list that Oliver killed. They find a baby picture, which is his son. Evelyn reveals herself as a traitor. Prometheus disguises Billy as himself and taunts Oliver into shooting him. Diggle gets caught. Oliver goes to Susan for comfort, ugh. Laurel comes back. Prometheus was trained by the same woman who trained Oliver in Russia.

Who Are You?: Adrian is going to represent Diggle. Laurel is Black Siren. Prometheus broke her out of S.T.A.R. Labs to mess with Oliver’s head. When they try to take her to the Arrowcave, she sonics the Laurel statue. Felicity punches Black Siren in the face. Introduction of Talia Al Ghul and Dinah Drake.

Second Chances: Felicity tries to take down the general framing Diggle and meets a hacktivist who gives her an NSA data cache. She leaks the General’s information and Adrian tries to get the case dismissed. The rest of the team recruit Dinah Drake. Oliver becomes the hood with Talia Al Ghul.

Bratva: Flashback Oliver and Anatoly plan to kill Gregor, the Bratva boss. Lance is back from rehab. Everyone except Rene, Lance, and Thea go to Russia to track down the general. Anatoly doesn’t want to help, but Oliver eventually makes a deal. Felicity gets Walker’s location by being extremely ba. Rory warns her about giving into her dark side and Diggle gives into his. Rory’s rags absorb a nuclear bomb and then go hinky, so he leaves. Rene and Lance prepare for Lance’s interview with Susan Williams. It turns out that Rene and Quentin met before when Lance didn’t arrest him. Oliver sleeps with Susan Williams, who is still investigating him.

Spectre of the Gun: A little heavy handed, but good Rene character episode. He had a wife and kid. His wife used drugs and was killed by her dealer. His daughter, Zoe, was taken away from him and Curtis would like to help him get her back. Also, Curtis and Felicity have a great conversation about how no one can disagree respectfully anymore.

The Sin-Eater: China White, Cupid, and Liza Warner break out of Iron Heights. Oliver and Diggle go to talk to Prometheus’s mom. She doesn’t help them. Susan Williams asks Oliver if he’s the Green Arrow. After “joking” that he is, he tells her he isn’t. Dinah gets sworn in to the SCPD. The cops go after the Green Arrow. Thea and Felicity ruin Susan Williams. Oliver’s getting impeached.

Fighting Fire With Fire: Adrian offers to take to the fall for Oliver, but Oliver asks him to be his lawyer instead. Susan Williams has a new blog. Oliver asks Thea and Felicity to make things better. Oliver gets attacked by Vigilante and calls Susan Williams in the hospital. Prometheus is Adrian Chase and he throws Vigilante off a roof. Oliver gives a press conference throwing the Green Arrow under the bus and the team makes sure Vigilante doesn’t kill him. Oliver doesn’t get impeached and gets back with Susan Williams. Curtis is getting divorced. Felicity joins Helix. Adrian approaches Susan Williams.

Checkmate: Oliver goes to find Talia Al Ghul and finds out that she is Talia Al Ghul. Oliver threatens to expose Adrian and Adrian tells him that he’s kidnapped Susan Williams. Oliver and Diggle try to talk to Adrian’s wife, but barely escape the police. Felicity’s MIA because she’s at Helix and Oliver’s worried. After he agrees to trust her, she tells him that Adrian’s birth name is Simon Morrison. Oliver announces that the Green Arrow has 24 hours to turn himself in before the SCPD can shoot him on sight. Oliver tries to tell Pike about Adrian, but Adrian shoots him and is then by his hospital bed taunting Oliver. Flashback Oliver becomes the hood around Anatoly and Anatoly finds it ridiculous. Helix refuses to help Felicity until Felicity helps them. Diggle tries to calm Oliver down by saying people are a strength. They rescue Susan Williams and then Talia and Adrian kidnap Oliver.

Kapiushon: Adrian tortures Oliver. Gregor dies and Anatoly becomes Bratva captain. Adrian makes Oliver and Evelyn fight. Adrian “kills” Evelyn. Oliver seemingly kills Kovar. Oliver says that he liked being a killer. This episode was so dark. Evelyn’s fine. Adrian blowtorches Oliver’s Bratva tattoo. Kovar’s alive. Oliver wakes up unbound and returns to the Arrow cave. He’s been gone six days and says he’s done.

Disbanded: Oliver breaks up with Susan Williams. He brings in the Bratva to kill Adrian. Felicity uses Helix to try and unmask Adrian. What the Bratva want in return in to create an addictive street drug. The team minus Oliver stop them from killing Chase and Oliver comes in to keep them from getting away with the drugs. Felicity and Curtis steal tech from Kord Industries to unmask Adrian. Once SCPD finds out that Adrian is Prometheus, he kills his protection detail.

Dangerous Liasons: Helix agrees to help find Chase if Felicity helps them get into A.R.G.U.S. Felicity does and Helix accidently kills somebody. They want to break out Cayden James, the founder of Helix. They need a second key and attack A.R.G.U.S. and team Arrow to get it. Oliver and Lyla do not approve of her plan. Felicity does it anyway and later gets in between Oliver and Helix, opting to go with Helix, who promptly ditch her. They do leave her a biometric tracker, which reveals Adrian is there.

Underneath: The lovely Olicity bottle episode. Olicity gets trapped in the bunker and the team has to get them out. Olicity is back y’all!

Honor Thy Fathers: All of the people Chase prosecuted have been released and Team Arrow is spread thin watching them. A huge crate containing a corpse buried in concrete is delivered to Oliver’s office. Robert Queen’s DNA was under the man’s fingernails and the concrete came from a Queen Consolidated subsidiary. When Oliver and Diggle check it out, they get stuck in a concrete trap. Curtis and Dinah have to go off Derek Sampson detail to rescue them. They find a lawyer who represented both the corpse and Claybourne and he gives them a flash drive, which Oliver tells Thea to destroy. Thea watches it and the man’s death was an accident, but an accident Robert Queen covered up. Oliver puts back on his costume because of Felicity and fights Chase. Oliver tells Chase his father was going to disown him and Chase gives up. Flashback Anatoly takes Oliver back to Lian Yu and tells him that he’s going to bribe a fishing boat. Kovar shows up and drugs Oliver.

Missing: In flashback, Kovar gives Oliver what is called the “Red Death” and he has painful flashbacks but finally frees himself. Team Arrow celebrates Oliver’s birthday! And then people start to drop like flies. Black Siren’s escaped and they never told Lance about her. Her and Evelyn tranq Thea and Lance and Thea has to explain about other Earth’s and doppelgangers. Diggle and Felicity try to pull an Isabel Rochev on Talia Al Ghul, but it doesn’t work. Malcolm comes to help. Oliver is adamant that he won’t let Chase go until he gets a call from William. He and Malcolm incapacitate the Marshalls and let Chase get away. Oliver brings in Nyssa to help and it’s super awkward. Everyone’s on the island and Oliver recruits Slade Wilson.

Lian Yu: EVERYONE MAY OR MAY NOT BE DEAD! This is all you need to know going into tomorrow.

THE LUCY STORY

“The Ann Sothern Show” (S2;E1) ~ October 5, 1959

Synopsis

Lucy Ricardo is mad at Ricky, so she packs her bags and moves into a hotel managed by her old friend Katy O'Connor. Finding out that Katy is unmarried, Lucy is determined to fix her up with her boss, Mr. Devry, using herself as bait. The plan backfires when Mr. Devry finds out the truth and turns the tables on the girls.

Cast

Ann Sothern (Katy O'Connor) was born Henrietta Lake in 1909. She appeared in the first “Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” “Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana” (1957) as Susie MacNamara, the same character she played on her show “Private Secretary” from 1953 to 1957. After that show was shelved due to a contract dispute, Ball appeared in return crossover on “The Ann Sothern Show” in 1959. Sothern appeared with Ball in five films between 1933 and 1943. On “The Lucy Show,” she made seven appearances as Rosie Hannigan aka The Countess Frambois, a countess down on her luck. She was nominated for an Oscar for her final screen appearance in The Whales of August in 1987. She is buried near her home in Sun Valley, Idaho, a place also dear to Lucy and Desi.

Katy is the assistant manager of the Bartley House Hotel. She is unmarried.

Lucille Ball (Lucy Ricardo) was born on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York. She began her screen career in 1933 and was known in Hollywood as ‘Queen of the B’s’ due to her many appearances in ‘B’ movies. With Richard Denning, she starred in a radio program titled “My Favorite Husband” which eventually led to the creation of “I Love Lucy,” a television situation comedy in which she co-starred with her real-life husband, Latin bandleader Desi Arnaz. The program was phenomenally successful, allowing the couple to purchase what was once RKO Studios, re-naming it Desilu. When the show ended in 1960 (in an hour-long format known as “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”) so did Lucy and Desi’s marriage. In 1962, hoping to keep Desilu financially solvent, Lucy returned to the sitcom format with “The Lucy Show,” which lasted six seasons. She followed that with a similar sitcom “Here’s Lucy” co-starring with her real-life children, Lucie and Desi Jr., as well as Gale Gordon, who had joined the cast of “The Lucy Show” during season two. Before her death in 1989, Lucy made one more attempt at a sitcom with “Life With Lucy,” also with Gordon, which was not a success and was canceled after just 13 episodes.

Don Porter (James Devry) played Mr. Devry for 46 episodes of “The Ann Sothern Show” from 1959 to 1961. He previously played Peter Sands on “Private Secretary” from 1953 until the show's end in 1957. In 1974 Porter had a reunion with Lucille Ball in three projects: a January episode of “Here's Lucy”; in the musical film Mame, playing snooty Mr. Upson; and in the Lucille Ball special “Happy Anniversary and Goodbye.” He died in 1997 at age 84.

Mr. Devry is the manager of the Bartley House Hotel. He is an eligible bachelor.

Ann Tyrell (Olive Smith) played Olive for 55 episodes of “The Ann Sothern Show” from 1958 to 1961. She previously played Vi Praskins on “Private Secretary” from 1953 to 1957. Critics often said that she was the “Ethel” to Ann Sothern's “Lucy.” Her last screen credit was in 1964 and she died in 1983.

Jack Mullaney (Johnny Wallace) played Mr. Wallace for 22 episodes of “The Ann Sothern Show” from 1958 to 1959. His final screen credit was in 1980's remake Little Miss Marker. He died two years later at age 52.

James V. Kern directed 22 episodes of “The Ann Sothern Show.” He began directing “I Love Lucy” in 1957 at the end of the Hollywood episodes and did a total of 40 episodes. His final directing work was for “My Three Sons.” He died in 1966. His place of death is listed as Desilu Studios.

James Gershe wrote a baker's dozen of episodes of “Private Secretary” and half a dozen of “The Ann Sothern Show.” He is best remembered for his Broadway play Butterflies Are Free, as well as the screenplay for the 1972 film. He wrote two episodes of “The Lucy Show,” one of which featured Ann Sothern. Gershe was nominated for an Oscar for 1957's Funny Face.

Ann Sothern and her sister, Bonnie Lake, wrote the series' theme song "Katy".

About her good friend, Lucille Ball once remarked, "The best comedienne in this business, bar none, is Ann Sothern."

Unlike most Desilu shows, “The Ann Sothern Show” was not filmed before a live studio audience as Sothern reportedly did not like to play comedy in front of an audience. A laugh track was used throughout the run. For a time, some episodes featured a disclaimer during the end credits reading "Audience Reaction Technically Produced."

This episode of “The Ann Sothern Show” is sponsored by Tang, a fruit-flavored drink first sold in powdered form in 1959 (meaning it was brand new when it was a sponsor) by General Foods. Sales of the beverage mix were weak until 1962, when NASA used it on John Glenn's Mercury and Gemini missions. Since then, it has been closely associated with the US space program, leading to the misconception that Tang was invented for or by NASA. Sothern and her cast would often appear in commercials for the sponsors' products at the end of the episode. She would then sign off with,

"Well, goodnight everybody. Stay happy!".

During its first two seasons, “The Ann Sothern Show” aired on Monday nights at 9:30pm on CBS immediately following Desilu’s “The Danny Thomas Show” (aka “Make Room For Daddy”). The series' first two seasons received decent ratings, however, at the start of the 1960-61 season, the series moved to Thursday nights at 9:30pm opposite the ABC hit show “The Untouchables”, also filmed by Desilu. The ratings plummeted and CBS canceled the show in the spring of 1961.

Cable channel Nick at Nite aired “The Ann Sothern Show” from 1987 to 1990. To date, no plans for a DVD release have been announced.

Ann and Lucy first became acquainted back in 1933, when both made brief appearances as bathing beauties in a Darryl Zanuck melodrama Broadway Thru a Keyhole. Although Ball has a line of dialogue, Sothern is hard to find in the chorus.

This cross-over represents the only time Lucille Ball would play Lucy Ricardo without Desi Arnaz as Ricky. In reality, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's marriage was ending. They would announce their separation after the final episode of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” in April 1960, six months after this cross-over episode of “The Ann Sothern Show” aired.

Like “I Love Lucy,” “The Ann Sothern Show” featured characters named Ethel (Alice Pearce), Fred (Arch Whiting), and Richy (Jimmy Phillips). The show also employed some of “I Love Lucy's” best character actors: Doris Singleton, Charles Lane, Elvia Allman, Ross Elliott, Paul Dubov, Howard McNear, George O'Hanlon, John Emery, Lurene Tuttle, Richard Reeves, Herb Vigran, Eleanor Audley, Jack Albertson, Van Johnson, Lawrence Dobkin, Jesslyn Fax, Jack Chefe, Norman Varden, and Joseph Kearns.

“The Ann Sothern Show” premiered on CBS on October 6, 1958, the same night that “Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse” presented “Lucy Goes To Mexico”, the season two opener of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.” For the rest of the 1958-59 season, “The Ann Sothern Show” would serve as lead in for new episodes of “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.”

Arriving at Katy's office, Lucy says she has been trying for weeks to get Ricky to take her away for the weekend. That morning, Lucy found a note from Ricky on her pillow:

“Dear Lucy. Had to go skin-diving with Charlie Snyder. Be home around nine. Next weekend we go for sure.”

On “I Love Lucy” no one named Charlie Snyder was ever mentioned, nor did Ricky Ricardo ever show an interest for skin-diving. Throughout the episode, there is no mention of Little Ricky, the Mertzes, or the fact that Lucy Ricardo lives in Westport, Connecticut. It is probably assumed that the viewing audience knows Lucy's backstory from the past eight years of “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour.”

Determined to teach him a lesson, Lucy checks in to the hotel that Katy manages, the [fictional] Bartley House Hotel. It is revealed that Lucy is staying in one of the Bartley's finer rooms, Suite 341. Two other real-life Manhattan hospitality establishments are mentioned: the Plaza Hotel and the Pierre Hotel. The Plaza is on the corner of 5th Avenue and 59th Street and opened to the public in 1907. The Pierre is a luxury hotel that opened in 1930 and is situated on Fifth Avenue at 61st Street, facing Central Park.

Lucy says that she calls herself 'Lucille' when things get serious. In fact, on “I Love Lucy” Lucy never called herself Lucille, nor did anyone else. Her full name was only used when dealing with official identification like passports or birth certificates.

Lucy tells Katy that their mutual friend Edna Philips has two kids and a beagle. Lucy compliments the beagle.

When Lucy finds out Katy is still not married, she is determined to play matchmaker and fix her up with her boss, Mr. Devry. Lucy Ricardo played matchmaker several times on “I Love Lucy,” fixing up Sam “the fly” Carter and Dorothy “the spider” Cook in “The Matchmaker” (ILL S4;E4); “Lucy is Matchmaker” (ILL S2;E27) where she tries to fix up Eddie Grant and Sylvia Collins; and “Lucy Plays Cupid” (ILL S1;E15, above) where she sets her bow in the direction of the elderly Miss Lewis (Bea Benadaret) and the neighborhood butcher Mr. Ritter (Edward Everett Horton).

Katy calls her boss “bloodless Devry” and says Lucy might as well have fallen for “a stuffed pimento.” Mr. Devry overhears these remarks and is determined to prove them wrong.

Thinking Lucy has fallen in love with Mr. Devry herself, Katy calls Lucy "Madame du Barry." Ball had portrayed the character, in Du Barry Was a Lady (1943). Sothern was originally scheduled to play the role, but had to drop out of the film when she discovered she was pregnant. The real-life Madame du Barry (1743-93) was the last mistress of French King Louis XV.

Mr. Devry decides to turn the tables on Lucy and makes amorous overtures to her. When packing to leave, Katy finds Lucy’s suitcase contains the Bartley’s (largely monogrammed) hotel towels.

To get her to stay, Katy slips a handful of Rock-a-Bye Sleep Tablets into Lucy's champagne. To get back at her, while Katy is in the bedroom, Lucy puts the tablets inside Katy's chocolates.

Realizing they have slipped each other a mickey, they sing “Rock-a-bye Baby” to each other preparing to nod off. Luckily, Mr. Devry rescues them from their slumber.

Lucy Ricardo also had too many sleeping pills when she rode the “Staten Island Ferry” (ILL S5;E12) to help Fred get over his sea sickness.
