Diplomat Suites is hard to describe, but we will. It is a five-story brutalist monolith protected by concrete walls.

Lately I've been reading "Drawdown", by Paul Hawken et al, a comprehensive set of strategies for tackling the climate crisis. Your Cambrian Wildwoods post reminded me of one of the solutions - Silvopasture, from the Latin for 'Forest Grazing'.
Essentially it means proposing to farmers that a portion of land be forested and that their animals freely graze there. It can be extremely flexible - planting trees in existing pasture, thinning down woodland to allow for forage growth, using trees as natural fencing, and more.
It's got good potential for carbon capture, and also for saving farmers money in feed and fertiliser, creating better conditions for livestock by keeping them in the shade, and potentially providing secondary income sources in fruit, nuts, etc.
What do you think of it as a potential avenue for Welsh farming? The focus in "Drawdown" is on cattle farming, but I don't see any reason not to trial it with sheep - especially since it could be spun as a hybrid of both aspects of traditional culture...
("Drawdown" also emphasises peer-to-peer uptake through word-of-mouth, rather than being pushed by outsiders.)
Oh, yes - it's basically what they did at Pontbren. That was a farmer-led initiative - one of the big expenses with sheep farming is having to bring them into barns over the winter and supply all feed, but traditionally they'd have stayed out all year. So these farmers got together and went, "How do we ethically and sustainably reduce this expense?"
What they realised is that they were paying for (a) the government-enforced decision post-WW2 to swap to high-yield breeds of sheep that weren't suited to the Welsh climate and topography (i.e. wet as fuck and mostly vertical), and (b) the decline of traditional hedgerow management and shelterbelts. And so the dream was born.
They contacted the Woodland Trust purely to act in an advisory capacity - they wanted to know which trees would be best, and where. They could take much land out of production, but the beauty of hedgerows and shelterbelts is that they're linear features that replace your fences. That was how environmentalists got on board - we were invited, and we remembered that. We were therefore allowed to do a couple of experiments as it progressed, such as testing the infiltration rates of rain into groundwater rather than run-off and comparing it between hedgerow fields and fence fields. Meanwhile, the farmers replaced their stock with native breeds - I believe mostly Welsh Mountain Sheep, which look amazing:
Ain't no rain getting in THAT.
Anyway, a few strategically placed shelterbelts and hedgerows later and:
The sheep can now safely stay out all year round, excepting storms
The sheep are actually healthier and have higher welfare standards
Floods have reduced thanks to higher infiltration rates
Soil erosion is reduced so the fields and river are healthier
The farmers have saved money
The farmers are now making extra money, because they started a tree nursery and sell trees as a side project

So yes! Silvipasture is actually a huge tool for the future that we need to be embracing, as is agroforestry for arable farming, and the frustrating/hopeful part of it is, these are tools we used to use. This isn't new knowledge - it's forgotten knowledge that we need to reclaim. But even aside from the immediate benefits, it also has massive implications for resilience in a world with a warming climate, and we need to do it faster.

HORSHAM, Pa. - A Montgomery County family has been left in shambles after officials say an 11-year-old boy was killed by his own mother, who then tried to drive her car into the ocean at the Jersey Shore.
Police were called to a house 500 block of Privet Road in Horsham Township Tuesday when a man said he discovered his son dead in the master bedroom.
The boy's dad told police the 11-year-old had slept in bed with his mom the night prior, but the door was locked the next morning, and his wife's car was missing.
Officials say an investigation revealed that the boy's mom, identified as 50-year-old Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead, killed her son as he slept in her bed.
She then fled to Cape May and drove into the ocean until her car was inoperable. After walking to Wildwood Crest, she was taken into custody.
While inside the family home in Montgomery County, officials in Cape May alerted Horsham Police that they found Dirienzo-Whitehead's SUV partially submerged in the ocean at The Cove, just off Beach Avenue.
Dirienzo-Whitehead is a realtor in Horsham and owns a property in Wildwood Crest, according to officials.
A belt was found on the floor of the partially submerged vehicle during a search, the district attorney's office says.
The boy's death was determined to be ligature strangulation by homicide, according to an autopsy.
Documents say she told police her son had been upset and crying on and off all day about their financial difficulties. She did not want him to grow up with these struggles, so she strangled him with her husband's belt as he slept.
Horsham Police Chief, Scott Fida, said, "Our community is hurting right now. We're a relatively small, tight-knit community. Our prayers go out to the family, the GA community where this child went to school and as a community, we're going to help each other get through this."
His school, Germantown Academy, issued a statement Wednesday vowing to "honor him as he so truly deserves."
"[He] was an extraordinary child with a smile as bright as the sun… the embodiment of love, promise, and goodness, and we will never, ever forget him."
DiRienzo-Whitehead is being held in Cape May County as she awaits extradition to Montgomery County for murder charges.

Drury's aunt, Valerie Wilcox, told the The Buffalo News that she fondly recalled the day her sister legally adopted the "sweet, sweet girl" with a capacity for joy that could echo off the walls. On family vacations to Wildwood, New Jersey, Amanda remembers that her sister was the one pulling everyone else into the water.
"Jubilant" was the word her brother, Christopher Moyer, used to describe her. She was a fan of food and life and seemingly every song on the radio he didn't know, he said.
Drury's swings in energy could make it difficult to hold a job, Moyer said. But after he was diagnosed with leukemia, eventually requiring a bone marrow transplant, she rushed to Buffalo eight years ago to be by his side. She babysat his two small children, made grocery trips to help out, and accompanied him on wing runs for his restaurant, The Dalmatia Hotel.
“No matter what she went through. She was full of life," said her friend and neighbor in Buffalo, Krystle Pino, to radio station WGRZ. "Caring, happy, she cared about everyone,”
At the beginning of each day, Pino told the Syracuse Post-Standard, Drury liked to pop her head out the window to yell across the street.
“Good morning, Boo,” Drury would yell. “I love you!”
“I love you, too!” Pino responded in kind.
Drury lived just 10 minutes on foot from the Tops Friendly Markets location on Jefferson Avenue — and on Saturday afternoon, May 14, she walked down the street the same way she always did, Moyer said.
But this time, she didn’t return.
"I knew about the shooting immediately," Moyer said. "All my friends had called me saying, 'Oh my god, I can't believe what happened down the street.'"
Moyer knew a gunman was at their local supermarket. He knew multiple people had been shot. He refused to even imagine that his sister could be involved.
But she wasn't answering the phone. She wasn't at home. His sister's friends began to knock on his door, saying they were worried.
"Little by little," he said, "it began to seep in."
Even before the police called, he began preparing his family for the worst.
She had been among the first victims, they learned. She'd been shot down in the Tops parking lot by a man who’d scrawled a racial slur onto his rifle.
The alleged killer had driven more than 200 miles from his home to Buffalo’s historical Black Main Street. According to police, he left behind a white supremacist manifesto describing his plan to terrorize anyone who didn’t look like him.
By the time police allowed the gunman to lay down his rifle, 13 people had been shot. And 10 lay dead.
Among them was his sister, just 32 years old, who would never again be able to shout her love from her front window, or serenade her sister with Whitney Houston songs over the phone.
"It's hard to know what to say," said Moyer, who said his family is trying to keep it together. He spoke from the hospital, after suffering yet another health setback.
For sister Amanda, Roberta was the one who made sure family gatherings were all about spending boisterous quality time together. "Her vibrancy set a tone," she said.
Moyer’s restaurant, The Dalmatia Hotel, declared itself heartbroken in a Facebook message, calling her a “bright light in the world.”
“To learn that a member of our NorthStar family fell victim to an extremist act of hate, is unfathomable,” wrote Daniel Bowles, superintendent of the North Syracuse Central School District where Drury had attended high school.
As for Drury's neighbor, Pino, she was left to tell her young children that they would never again see their neighbor, she told the Post-Standard.
“I had to explain … she is with God now,” Pino said.

I want to eventually introduce my other rp characters/OCs here, so I figured I'd start off with my favorite besides my WoL, Ki'to.
Backstory & other info under the read more 'cause it got lengthy. xD
This here is Seire Greystone (formerly Jehantel when he'd adopted his mother's name), bastard son of House Dzemael and youngest brother to the now retired Count. Though his mother had traveled to Ishgard for a while, he was born and raised in Ul'dah. He learned much in the Jewel of the Sands, mainly the merchants' trade and how to source and make his own jewelry.
As his mother forbade him from traveling to Ishgard, he made himself a cozy little spot in the Sapphire Avenue Exchange for many years, though ever questioning why he could not visit his homeland. At age 25 he was finally told why. Though this only served to fuel his curiosity; he'd seen and befriended children born of illegitimate means before, why would it matter over there? Still, he heeded his mother's pleas and stayed.
When she had eventually passed a couple years later, curiosity once again got the better of him and he made his way north.
After settling in to the home he had bought with his savings, Seire finally decided to explore the city. Only to see an all too familiar face; one of his frequent customers, and apparently manservant to House Dzemael, "sent" to keep an eye on his mother and eventually him as well. (Y'all can't tell me the Dzemael's wouldn't be that petty. They absolutely would)
Though he was determined to become a Dragoon, as his mother used to tell him stories of the Azure Dragoon which fascinated him to no end, his old regular had other plans for him. The man enrolled him in the Scholasticate, knowing full well if he became a man of the cloth he would bear no other children of Dzemael blood into the world. Though originally threatening his mother's life if he did not join, he'd soon realized from his demeanor that she walked Halone's halls. Instead threatening to reveal him as a bastard to the entire Holy See. Now, Seire had no clue that that was not as much of a threat as he made it seem, but with his mother's warnings in the back of his mind he conceded.
Not only did he join the Scholaticate, but passed with high honors at the end of his schooling and was extended a hand to join the clergy. Upon chancing to hear of the manservant's dismissal from House Dzemael however (and knowing now he was acting alone), he refused, having no further need to play this game.
Though his faith in Halone was strengthened, he still knew he would better serve her with a lance in hand. So he trained for years to eventually take up the dragoon's mantle. And faithfully did he serve against the Dravanians for many years, and made many an alliance along the way. By the end of his service he was endeared to both House Haillenarte and Fortemps, and even took up the latter's mantle as a knight for a while before he would finally retire at 50. Though what little good it did as he took up the lance again at Count Edmont's behest for the crescendo of the Dragonsong War.
It was then, after man and dragon joined hands once again, that he finally knew peace.

Laura's Fudge is all lit up for 1967!
Laura’s Fudge is a well-established location, with operations dating back to the early 1900s! They have some nice shadowbox signs circling the top of the building.
Most of the many bulbs reqired to illuminate a sign like this have been replaced, and now the signs are updated for a bright 1967! (or, is that 2023?)
The dazzling array of lights is even a remarkable sight on a cloudy winter…

I love this song so much and there is something wonderfully Homeric about the idea of the protective figure voiced in the song, like a goddess watching over their chosen warrior hero.

The dancer of all dancers! But what happens when you find out your ability isn’t entirely your own? Is it still freeing or is it something that causes you guilt? All the same, nothing better than losing your feelings on the floor.

This is such a funky spooky little song (You go ,Johnny), but I love the idea of perhaps inverting the idea of History from the Greek understanding of it (all texts and Classical history) to have a muse who was a deep love for these forgotten parts of history, perhaps an academic?

Tragedy is all about catharsis, about that cleansing feeling of releasing all of your emotions as somebody else breaks your heart through art, and this song just screams of that for me, about just letting it all GO. Being the muse of tragedy must be a heavy burden to bear.

Everybody’s looking for meaning and sometimes clinging to that meaning can turn people against others. Being the muse of hymns and Sacred texts and meditation must come with a lot of people looking to you for answers and not always liking what you tell them.
