So anyways, not to compare one series to another, but if I'm gonna watch a young girl fall into an emotional relationship with an older man amidst a backdrop of magic and music, I'm gonna watch When The Devil Calls Your Name, rather than The Sound of Magic.
The Sound of Magic is cute. And it's only 6 episodes, so easily watchable over a weekend (or a Sunday, like I just did). And the post credits scene after the final ep is especially cute if you're a theater nerd. But I just kept thinking of When The Devil Calls Your Name, and wishing I could feel the emotional connection to and between the characters like I did in that series.
There was nothing remotely engaging about the characters or their relationships in The Sound of Magic.

When the Devil Calls Your Name - Watched September 2023
What brought me to it: Yoon Kyung Ho, obviously
What I liked: I think the highlight is the dynamic between the characters. There are a whole bunch of pretty interesting characters and it was often really fun to watch them interact. Plus there was great humor, and some effective drama.
What I didn’t like: The back few episodes didn't work as much for me. The Angel Lore was less interesting, and while I know it's part of like the whole idea of the soul, I really hated to see interesting characters become completely nothing for whole episodes. Also justice for Luca.
The standouts: Lee El and Lee Seol were both fantastic, plus YKH got to flex with some dramatic beats!
Who I would recommend it to: If you like fantastical dramas, or dramas with a lot of music, this is definitely worth checking out.
Overall score: 6/10
