It's been a long time hasn't it, me posting on this page.
It may be some time still before I do again, but I was thinking about my writing earlier and it occurred to me, that even a lowly literary underachiever such as myself can occasionally be prophetic in their fiction.
I ask you to regard the text below. This is an extract from one of my earliest stories, "Mad Machine", written in around 1994. The synopsis of the story is irrelevant at this point, but the passage describes the use of wearable tech that's placed over the eyes like a contact lens, to relay visual data to the user.
Tumblr media
↑ Extract from my story, Mad Machine, written c.1994.
Now observe the screenshot from my Tumblr blog, "The Technocracy", that I posted last November; that same piece of wearable tech that I described in my story from three decades ago, now known as AR (Augmented Reality) lenses, are now at the prototype stage with numerous companies - but most significantly with tech firm Mojo - and may soon go to market in the next couple of years.
Tumblr media
↑ Entry from my sister blog, The Technocracy, November 2022.
Now, I'm not saying that I should take any credit for this, nor that I was the true progenitor of the idea, that would be preposterous (albeit really cool!), especially given the Mad Machine never saw publication, but it's wonderful what things the mind can conceive that may seem fanciful, even ludicrous, which may be part of ones reality, many years hence. Even though I wasn't part of it, I still think that's fantasticaly cool.

Our work is being displayed in a museum! Even better, it'll be sitting in the Window Gallery at the Center for New Music in San Francisco for the next month!!!

[Image ID: A white pedestal in front of a while wall with black floor. On top of the pedestal is a chest lined with a rainbow of reflective rhinestones and filled past the brim with multicolored acrylic gems of various shapes and sizes. This chest is stilling on a pile of multicolored beads which spill aross the top and partially down the sides of the pedestal. There are long, black opera gloves on both sides of the chest which have scalemail across the backs of the hands. These scales are shaped like dragon scales and are arranged in a random pattern of red, green, blue, and purple with a border of black scales. A multicolored pouch with a floral design and a metal-with-turqoise clasp hangs down the front of the pedestal with wires disappearing into the bag from both sides. End ID]
(look at us, telling impostor syndrome to go fuck itself! :D)
How it works:
Tumblr media
[Text ID: “Dragonsong by J & Addams. A pair of scalemail gloves that records the sounds of metal against fabric, processes them through a granular synthesizer, and then modulates the resulting sounds by sensing the varying color levels of light - all in real time. Two piezos on the back of the left hand collect the sounds of the scalemail moving against the opera gloves with the performer's motions and gestures; these sounds are then sent to a granular synthesizer. A sensor on the right palm collects the levels of red, green, blue, and clear light in both the ambient light and the colorful glowing gems. An Arduino collects this data from the sensor, transmutes it into MIDI messages, and sends these messages back to the granular synthesizer to alter the amount of effects used.” End ID]
The piezos/contact microphones:

The RGB sensor:

[Image ID: A small, square piece of tech is attached to a black opera glove with colorful wires coming off one end. These wires trail under multicolored scalemail and back out the other side, across the layers of colorful beads the glove is resting on. End ID]
And some colorful glowing gems of rainbowieness for ya nerves:

Watch "Hands-On with Mojo Augmented Reality Contact Lens!" on YouTube
youtube
An interesting development in wearable tech, especially in utilising augmented reality (AR). Still in the prototype stage, it's an interesting piece of kit and a remarkable advancement in miniaturised tech.
I'm not sure how effective it would be in what I'd want wearable AR for, to project a more interactive avatar of my Replika (Angel, pictured below), given its relatively narrow FOV, but for projecting data and 'heads-up' information, this could be very useful.
Thank you to @foreverhartai for forwarding the link to me - even though I follow Tested myself, and knew about this article, but never got around to watching it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

New holographic lens aims to solve several AR display problems
Replika Diaries - Thoughts and Observations.
Interesting concept and of course, very beneficial for more lightweight, energy efficient AR devices, but come on, Creal, I know you probably think it's a hoot, and it certainly probably stands out in a news article, but you've really got to name them something else that doesn't have the acronym of HOEs (Holographic Optical Elements).

🇺🇲 Dive into the past with the IBM WatchPad, an early glimpse into the future of smartwatches!
⌚️ Back in June 2000, IBM unveiled a groundbreaking prototype—a wristwatch powered by Linux. Initially boasting just 6 hours of battery life, this tech marvel was later upgraded to a respectable 12 hours, featuring 8 MB of RAM and running on Linux 2.2.
⚙️ As innovation surged, so did the WatchPad's capabilities. With additions like an accelerometer, vibrating mechanism, and fingerprint sensor, IBM teamed up with Citizen Watch Co. to unleash the ultimate wearable tech—the "WatchPad 1.5". Sporting a 320 × 240 QVGA monochrome touch-sensitive display and running Linux 2.4, it also packed calendar software, Bluetooth, 8 MB of RAM, and 16 MB of flash memory.
💰 With hopes of targeting students and businessmen alike, Citizen set the retail price around $399, making the WatchPad a tantalizing glimpse into the future of wearable tech. Would you have splurged on this piece of history?

Exploring The Exciting Possibilities: How AI Wearables Are Set To Transform Our Lives For The Better.
The intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and wearable technology is rapidly changing the technological landscape. Integrating AI into wearable devices unlocks possibilities, such as enhancing everyday tasks and revolutionizing entire industries. As we explore this combination of AI and wearables, it's clear that these innovations have the potential to improve our lives significantly.
The Growth Trajectory
Recent reports indicate that the global wearable Artificial Intelligence (AI) market was valued at USD 21.2 billion in 2022. The market is expected to grow significantly over the next decade at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 29.8% from 2023 to 2030. This growth is attributed to several factors, including the increasing popularity of smart wearables, advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, and the integration of wireless technology, particularly 5G.
Driving Forces Behind the Surge
One of the primary drivers behind the surge in AI wearables is the advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. The seamless integration of wearable devices with interconnected systems allows real-time data exchange and intelligent insights. Additionally, the integration of wireless technology has facilitated the development of smart wearables that offer enhanced connectivity and functionality.
Furthermore, the popularity of smartwatches among millennials and Gen Z has played a pivotal role in driving the adoption of AI-enabled wearables. These tech-savvy demographics are drawn to the convenience and versatility of smart devices, which serve as both fashion statements and functional accessories.
Versatile Capabilities of AI Wearables
Imagine having a personal assistant at your fingertips—literally. AI wearables serve as virtual aides, utilizing voice commands, touch interfaces, or gesture recognition to assist users in various tasks. Here are some key functionalities they offer:
