Into the confessionary a little spider walked
Mind not quite there
Quite lost
Memories scrambled around, confused
Pain flaring up, things that shouldn't have been said out
Siblings falling apart
Guilt over forgotten acts

Isn't it fun how everyone saw what terrified them most, but Nya's was so "unbelievable" that she broke out instantly? She was shown the one thing that was supposed to terrify her, make her spiral. But of course it wasn't real. It's Jay. If there's one thing she never once doubted, its that Jay is absolutely smitten, so of course he'd never forget her. What a silly thing to think, to be afraid of. She went through so damn much for this boy, and him for her, and we know how she is. Wouldn't it be petrifying if all that work, all that emotional turmoil, that clawing for love, could be forgotten just like that? Its quite a feat, really, that she can finally be confident in knowing such a fear is irrational.
It was easy to break free from such a place. It was only ever meant to scare her, and she has nothing to be afraid of. Right?

manifesting a s7 bi buck confirmation where the 118 are on a call and the victim/their friend/Random Civilian is getting annoyed makes a comment aimed at buck & eddie about "straight white men" and they both look offended then eddie says "do I look white???" and buck's like "do I look straight???"
how the others react (if at all) is tbc at this stage
i'm a sucker for inappropriate whisper arguments in the Absolute Worst of Situations so now all i'm seeing is eddie whipping around to buck when he says it with the widest doe eyes any human being has ever achieved and oblivious little buck waving the vic/friend/civilian off like "it's fine, could happen to anyone, you know" and then eddie's like "uh, yeah, it did, you're not straight?" and then it's like for the GA oh no are they going to do a kind of internalised homophobia arc for eddie where he re-examines his entire friendship with buck after finding out he likes men and yes he is going to re-examine his entire friendship with buck after finding out he likes men but it'll be the opposite of internalised homophobia (externalised homoeroticism)

i like to think that after the first arc, Jambu would take Glory on little field trips to teach her about the rainforest, since Glory was there for like a week before she became queen and then she was immediately launched into other problems

Ryan and Oliver giggling briefly in the abc36 interview has me in a chokehold. Oliver leaning in to whisper to Ryan meanwhile Ryan is ALL IN to giggle even more about what Oliver said.
Oh? Baby girls? What’s so funny?
I wish to be a fly on the wall when them two are anywhere near each other

Au idea I'll probably never write:
Steve as seven au, BUT he escapes at the same time as El in season 1. They get separated after Benny's, when seven tells eleven to run and definitely kills a couple government agents to give her more time.
So the a plot of will being missing and Mike finding El? Standard canon except El is ALSO looking for her brother and is worried about him. She sees that he's mostly safe and tries to help find will but also insists she go to her brother soon.
B plot of barb and Nancy...idk I haven't really thought about how that'd work without Steve's kickback. Maybe they go to a party (like actual party not the five person hangout) together and get separated and no one notices barb disappear from the edge of the lawn. Idk
The C plot is seven, kinda bloody and definitely cold, wandering out into the middle of the street, and one Robin Buckley almost running him over with her bike. She immediately clocks "guy who seems pretty fucked up" about him, and offers him a ride to her house. But Robin has never been the most coordinated of people and biking with a(admittedly probably too skinny) teenage boy sitting in her package rack is hard, and combine that with a guy driving like the devil's after him, they end up swerving of the road.
Eddie steps out, apologizes profusely, and offers them a ride. seven is sceptical, especially when both of them pause when he tells them his name, but does end up in the van. He finally gets a chance to breathe once they get to the Buckleys', and Robin gets him some leftovers.
He sits in front of the tv set to a blank station, tucks his head into his shirt instead of blindfolds, and tries to see El.
He sees her older, with flowers braided through long hair, laughing. Too far. He sees her with short curls, a patterned button down, eating something in a cone beside a mustachioed man. Too far again. He sees her tiny, scared, holding his own small hand. Not far enough.
Finally, finally, he sees her as she knows her now, mostly, standing beside a group of children and in front of a monster in a large room.
Eddie and Robin have no idea why their new friend? Has turned the tv on to static and is hiding in his shirt, but figure he's had a rough day. He pops his head back out, blood dripping from his nose, and grins, telling them he knows where his sister will be.
Anyways blah blah blah El sees where people ARE Steve sees where people have been/will be (based on where/who they are right now. Futura is constantly in motion etc).
Idk season 2 would happen very similar as canon minus stancy break up (they never date and are just friends) (also Steve tells Robin and Eddie he and El are safe and they pass it on to the kids) El finds Kali, Steve fights demodogs, etc etc.
But I want a (pre?) season 3 scene where Robin and Steve are hanging out as soulmates do, door closed because they are discussing Sensitive Subjects (gay shit) and giggling like schoolgirls. Hopper, in all his disappointed dad glory, opens the door and starts in on a rant about keeping the door open three inches.
Steve, bitch that he is, just tilts his head to the side and says "but that is for when we are with people we date. I am not dating Robin."
Hopper, not yet picking up what's happening, sighs. "Kid. It's about propriety. You can't be alone with Robin, because what if you do start dating. Then it's. You have to set an example for El!"(it would be a nice move bringing up Older Brother Responsibility, except...well.)
"but we aren't. I am dating someone else?"
"still need the door open three inches, pal. When El is home, at least"(El is almost always home)
"we do! And you complain about the loud music!"
"wait. Who are you dating? I thought Nancy was dating Jonathan still. She barely comes over." Hopper please pick up what Steve is putting down oh my god.
(hop has forgotten Robin is there and she is trying very hard not to make noise but Steve keeps meeting her eye sometimes because dear god. truly an iconic moment in friendship history.)
"yeah obviously. Eddie comes over all the time, though."
"what does Ed- oooh. Ah. I see. That's why you keep the door open even though he complains."
Steve nods like Hopper is the dumbest man on the planet. He might just be. "Yes. Because you said El had to and she asked why I didn't have to so then I started to leave it open when Eddie was over. At least Eddie doesn't laugh at you to your face"
"Eddie laughs behind my back?"
"he said you didn't know we were dating but I told him of course you knew, the door is open three inches."
Hopper clasps Steve's shoulders and looks him in the eye. "Steve, I need you to keep telling him that. And not mention this very awkward conversation we had."
"because he was right."
"he doesn't need to know that."
That's all I got lmao (also check the tag ramble I added lol)

For the prompt game……..
57. “Teach me to fight.”
Jarty??
nonny this is a lovely prompt, however i don't think either of them would ever ask the other for help this easily so instead you get something a little more heated
for @stagpdf and @sixlane and everyone that's as insane about them as i am
1114 words
The breeze outside is ruffling Barty’s short hair where he’s propped on one of the lunch tables alone, pocket knife in hand and finishing the apple he nicked from the cafeteria, James stupidly persistent cologne drifting over to him every now and then with the wind where he’s standing with his usual group, the older Black, Lupin and Pettigrew, throwing and catching a ball back and forth like the pretentious High School cliches that they are.
Barty doesn’t let himself look up, all he’d see of James would be the expanse of his wide shoulder and strong back and frankly freakishly huge ass anyways, so.
James knows he’s there though. Barty knows James knows he’s there.
His friends are currently talking him up, metaphorically patting him on the back and praising him, as if that inflated ego of his needed any more stroking and when the fundraiser comes up for the millionth god damn time Barty can’t help himself anymore. It’s a miracle he’s held out this long honestly.
Barty snorts.
Out of the corner of his eyes he sees James’ tense back finally turning, “Is there a problem here, Crouch?”
Barty pockets his knife, turning his attention away from the carving he did on the tabletop while eavesdropping. He puts on his most unsettling grin, all teeth, sharp edges and eyes wide, “Me? No, no.” He waits until they’ve all turned their attention away before he continues, like an afterthought, “Y’know, I just find it funny that James wasn’t able to secure a single award or accolade despite his obvious charm and ingeniousness as you’ve so well described it. Unlike the other house representatives that were attending.”
Barty’s tongue makes its way into the pocket of his cheek, giddy with the execution of his blow as he watches James’ fists curl at his sides, chest heaving unevenly and expression so hard it would send any lesser man to his knees. Barty knows he’s struck a nerve, as was his intention, and he keeps himself propped up lazily on his elbows as he watches the other boy closely, as he feels the pulsing waves of James’ resentment wash over him like the most relaxing bubble bath.
“Leave it, Prongs, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Sirius spits, putting a hand on James’ shoulder.
Which James shrugs off immediately, making a twisted sort of satisfaction pool deep in Barty’s gut, warming him from the inside.
He doesn’t lie to himself, he knows he likes James’ attention on him like this with nobody but Barty getting to him, focused so intensely it’s almost sick. It’s the one time Barty feels evenly matched.
“No, someone ought to put him in his place and with the way he can’t seem to get off my dick right now I’m not averse to volunteering for the task myself,” James hisses, eyes narrowed dangerously.
“Oh?” Barty can’t help the hysterical laugh that slips from his throat, “Oh, this is phenomenal. You think you can teach me how to fight? Show me how to throw a proper punch, huh, Potter?” He doesn’t miss the way James’ upper lip twitches with the urge to sneer at the use of his last name and Barty lifts from his slouch against the bench to stand, opening his arms invitingly, “C’mon then, golden boy, show me what you got.”
There’s a ticking in James’ jaw and Barty can see his eyes attempt to dart over his shoulder where his pack of idiotic friends are still standing before he zeros back in on him, “Walk away, Crouch.”
“Aww, what?” Barty coos, skin already buzzing, “You afraid you’re gonna get your shit rocked? Afraid you’re gonna lose?”
The words reverberate back in Barty’s head, his own voice, same sentence but tone decidedly more playful but mean all the same. Bent over a table of pool, cue in hand and blinking up at James standing in the doorway in his stupidly tight shirt and plaid pajama pants.
“Afraid you’re gonna lose?”
James had tilted his head with a cocky smirk. “Not with the way you’re holding that cue I’m not,” he’d answered. His eyes had flitted to the uncapped bottle of vodka on the sideboard Barty had stolen from his father’s cabinet and brought onto the trip. “You’re aware of the fact we’re gonna be up pretty early tomorrow, yes?”
Their heads of houses had chosen them to represent their school on this stupid fundraiser Gala slash genius competition with a bunch of rich old guys and other schools. Slughorn has this weird obsession with Barty’s intelligence and with Lily getting sick last minute McGonagall was subjected to instead pick no other than Headboy himself, obviously.
Which was evidently trying to ruin Barty’s entire fun.
“Oh my god,” Barty had groaned, “Yes, mom. God, you’re worse than fucking Evans.”
James had bristled at the comment, “Watch your mouth.”
And Barty doesn’t really remember what he’d said after that, something lewd and inappropriate and agitating probably but he knows how it had ended. With James and him passed out on the plush sofa in the room, half a bottle of vodka divided between the two of them, knocking them right on their asses after they’d played round and round after pool, drinking every time they’d made a mistake, bickering over what counted as a mistake until their mouths were dry only to repeat and repeat again—it was a devil’s circle, evidently.
Waking up was hell.
Barty had felt gross, sweaty and dizzy and too warm for his skin especially with the way Mister human furnace was plastered to his chest, an arm slung tightly around Barty’s midriff and messy hair tickling the side of his face, glasses digging uncomfortably into Barty’s collarbone. And, what with a christian father that doesn’t like you an inch more than he likes a speck of mud on his pristine shoes, Barty had always known he’d end up in these fiery pits. Obviously he could do without the pounding headache but Barty had to say he thinks he could get used to someone like James sticking to his side like that.
So Barty knows how it had started and he knows how it’d ended and just how it had worked the first time it works a second time as well.
And like a fucking charm it does.
James huffs an irritated breath and pushes the ball into Pettigrew’s chest before walking closer to where Barty is standing.
“You don’t know your limits,” he growls.
Barty makes sure to pitch his voice into something sultry when he answers, “How about you show me then, Bambi?”
James growls again and then he’s already swinging for Barty.

I'm so tired of sites self-destructing, PLEASE I am begging there to be just ONE art site that isn't a flaming pile of shit that could go down at any moment
I'm not leaving until the ship goes down, but I would like to hear potential places where people are also posting art
Personally I'm most active on Kofi and Bluesky because these are the only sites that I'm sure won't come crashing down anytime soon but god it's so tiring to have to keep rebuilding because everything turns to shit over the dumbest, most lack-of-common-decency bullshit from people who should never be in power to begin with

my most evil inquisitor lore is that my trevelyan has a sister who died in the kirkwall circle just before the chantry explosion and cullen had a massive crush on her. she looked just like her. many implications.
#she was caught trying to escape and had to be made tranquil#cullen signed the papers but he warned her ahead of time which gave her a chance to. well you know.#and that was his tipping point turning him against meredith's rule.#he DOESN'T know she was a trevelyan though bc her parents were so ashamed of having a mage child they made her change her name#and he just doesnt make the connection between two blonde girls. he just thinks he has a type.#until. on THE wedding day. hawke is invited (because my trev has a crush on him. and is desperately mad of his tall blonde wife who she saw#when she snuck a glance at his locket one time. she lied about reading tale of the champion.)#anyway bethany sees her and is like. wait. she looks exactly like this woman i was in love with in the circle.#and she puts the pieces together. realises shes marrying CULLEN of all people. and is like oh fuck.#and she like. warns her. but at that point what can you do? the wedding is arranged and trevelyan is a massive public figure#so she walks down the aisle towards a man who is a) possibly only into her because he's chasing the ghost of her dead sister b) possibly the#reason her sister is dead c) actually kind of evil now that she's hearing stories about him from bethany#sorry the dai romances are boring to me i need to inject toxicity and horror into them to be interested.#anyway. all this to say that cullen kisses mary on the forehead when she reaches him at the altar and everyone who Knows (several people#by this point. dorian was there as well so he's been whispering) goes dead silent

I am perfectly normal about the Psychonauts timeline
Spoiler warning for...everything.
As I was playing Psychonauts 2, I had a vibe that Ford and the Psychic Seven were active during the late 1920s, early 1930s, mostly because of the Model T Ford in Cruller's Correspondence, but also because of the biplane in the diorama of Ford fighting Maligula from Fatherland Follies. But there were some issues with that - namely the Feel Mobile which resembles more a model of van released around 1964. I feel compelled to mention it looks like the Motherlobe is trapped in the 70s, technology-wise.
So I looked up the timeline on the Psychonauts fandom wiki, as well as the blurb from Psychonauts about the history of Whispering Rock. And while clicking through the wiki, I found a copy of the Li-Po document, which contains the following line:
[...] when [Ford Cruller] was [...] away fighting for the Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War [...]
Firstly, based.
Secondly, that means Ford had to be at least 16* by 1937 (when American volunteers were sent to Spain). At least if we are to believe that this...very specific part of the Li-Po document is still canon. Which...I mean, we could. We know Ford was already an adult when he assembled the Psychic Seven, but we don't know how old he was. From the looks of him in the mental vaults and illustrations, he was definitely older than 16 (considering the full moustache). Meaning that it is possible Ford spent his younger years fighting in the Lincoln Brigade, then when he matured started looking more into his and others' psychic powers.
Possible? Yes. Plausible? Ehhh...considering the story of Psychonauts 2 is deeply tied to the trauma the Psychic Seven endured surrounding the Grulovian Civil War then the Deluge of Grulovia, I doubt that Ford's previous involvement in a very bloody battalion (22.5% of Lincoln Battalion fighters died in the Spanish Civil War) would have gone unmentioned. Since it makes no appearance in Psychonauts 2, I think it's safe to say it's no longer canon.
So where does that leave us? With the only statement from the devs (specifically Tim Schafer himself) that points us towards a date for the game's events:
"We think of it as taking place in the 80's but not necessarily the 80's, in case we need a piece of technology that we're stealing from the 90's."
So...that leaves us with a year range of 1980 to 1999. However, if technology is an issue (specifically, taking place during the 80s but needing some tech from the 90s), that means the game probably takes place in the late 80s, early 90s. I interpret this as being between 1987 and 1993. So, we've narrowed it down! Based on my arbitrary definition of "late" and "early"!**
Is there any way to narrow it down further? Unfortunately, not from what I can find - the tech we see in the Motherlobe is more reminiscent of the 60s and 70s (the computers we see on peoples' desks and in Sasha's lab look akin to a Xerox Alto, which came out in 1973), and I don't know enough about the history of other technology we see in-game to infer information about the timeline. If someone else has knowledge about things I may have missed that point us towards a date, please reblog and let me know!
Now, before I get into what I see as the timeline, I do want to address Maloof's line when you release him from the GPC.
"Nah, the staff hasn't put any kids in the GPC since the fifties."
Which goes against the timeline written on the log in the parking lot (which states that Whispering Rock Summer Camp was only created 5 years ago). I'm leaning more toward the written lore, since it's entirely possible Maloof is misinformed. After all, this is his first time at the camp. It's entirely possible Bobby (or another camper) has been lying to Maloof about the history of the staff's use of the GPC. For this reason, I'm disregarding this conflicting bit of evidence.
So! On to the actual timeline - at least, what I think it is. Starting from the beginning and working our way to the present day. I will represent the dates as a range, so "1987 - 1993" means "between 1987 and 1993." It doesn't mean that whatever event took place took that long, just that it happened at some point within that range. Good? Good! Let's go.
Brick's Speculative Psychonauts Timeline
1487 - 1493: A psitanium meteor strikes the area that will eventually be known as Whispering Rock, leaving behind a psitanium deposit.
1787 - 1793: A local indigenous group starts working with the psitanium, creating the arrowheads found in the first game, and names the area Whispering Rock (just, in their language, not English)
1887 - 1893: The mining town of Shaky Claim is established as part of the gold rush, except they're mining for psitanium. The psitanium deposit severely worsens the mental health of the people there.
1888 - 1894: The first case of 'Paranormal Hysteria' diagnosed in Shaky Claim.
1912 - 1918: Houston Thorney constructs Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed. Ford Cruller is born.
1927 - 1933: Houston Thorney commits suicide. The town's population is less than the amount of patients in Thorney Towers.
1932 - 1938: Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed is closed but some patients still remain. The remaining residents of the valley leave and the area is flooded, resulting in Lake Oblongata.
[At some point, Ford assembles the Psychic Seven]
1967 - 1973: The Psychic Six fight Maligula. Grulovia is flooded then trapped below the frozen floodwaters. Helmut Fullbear is presumed dead. Shortly thereafter, Ford uses the Astralathe to modify the memories of Lucretia and Augustus, then to break his own mind.
[At some point, Charlie Psycho Delta is established then swiftly abandoned]
1982 - 1988: Whispering Rock Summer Camp is established.
1987 - 1993: The events of Psychonauts, Psychonauts: The Rhombus of Ruin, and Psychonauts 2 take place all within about a week (and that's being generous).
So there! That's what I think the timeline is. Again, if you have any feedback or want to point out something I missed, please let me know! I'm new to the games/lore/fandom so 'tis entirely possible!
The implications of this timeline are...interesting. The fact that during the fight with Maligula, something that was supported by multiple countries, they're using planes from the 1910s when it's at least 1967...the world of the Psychonauts isn't less technologically advanced - they have a jet that rivals ones from 2024! So I have no clue what that biplane is doing in Gristol's memory of the fight with Maligula. Unless we consider Gristol an unreliable narrator for that detail - but even then I'm unsure why he wouldn't have assumed they were using modern technology...? IDK. It's weird.
Anyways, if you got this far, thanks for reading! I'm flattered. I always love picking apart lore and timeline details like this, no matter the fandom I'm in. So consider this my hello to the Psychonauts fandom :-)
*According to the Wikipedia page for the Lincoln Battalion, that's probably the youngest any American volunteers were. ** The way I see it: if it ends in 1/2/3, it's early. If it ends in 4/5/6, it's mid. if it ends in 7/8/9, it's late.

Assuming that Nobby has seen Edward in preservation (post 1963 rebuild) (I think it was '63), what are his opinions on Edward being rebuilt into something not-so-Furness?
tl;dr: Nobby's just glad Edward is still alive, thank you — though he knows he has to pretend to give a damn about this sort of thing
The Awdry’s explanation for Edward does not come down to a single rebuild but to numerous modifications over the past, erm (checks notes) century or so. Some of these rebuilds would have been more extensive than others but it’s not clear to me that the one after the crankpin failure would have been one where they made the biggest alterations to his design.
I am sure that some significant rebuilding took place between 1920 and 1941. So Nobby already saw the beginnings of the Edwardification of 34 before he left Barrow.
Life is change. Most of Nobby’s own working career was before Mr Pettigrew brought standardisation to the F.R., he knows how it goes.
And, like, look, Nobby knows that when visitors come and say anything along the lines of oh if only so-and-so was still in their original form (and they do mention the Edward case to him of course, quite a lot), his job is to make vague sympathetic noises and to be sure to sound genial rather than biting if he observes that the world already has a preserved Sharp and Stewart passenger engine, you can go visit him any time, oh yes, I’m told the Dutch take very good care of him...
Incidentally, Nobby was sceptical about the project to rebuild 20 to his original form. May have kinda definitely been polite, diplomatic conversations with earnest representatives of the newly-formed Furness Railway Trust that boiled down to Nobby being like ‘Ya can’t bring back the past, shit don’t work like that’ and the FRT blokes being like ‘lol wut, nah bro, if you throw enough money at it you totally can — relax, we’ll show you.’
(At the risk of spoilers… the attitude of both parties proved justified in the end.)

hey. hey uh. just wondering what happened to all the children Curtain barged and brainswept. I'm assuming he didn't have a child services worker politely waiting at the dock for them. uh. where did they go.
#the mysterious benedict society#tmbs#ld curtain#sometimes in the Big Things that Curtain's done stuff like this gets overlooked#did the kids get dropped off at the orphanage? would he really waste the time? raise suspicion about where all these kids are coming from?#assuming one student gets barged a week from the leaderboard every Thursday. in all the years the Institute's been running.#that's a lot of kids.#did the kids just get left on the docks. left to wander around Stonetown with no memories and nowhere to go#also. the fact that unlike the books. not all/most of the kids at LIVE were orphans#Martina had parents#now granted the Whisperer's messages 'the missing aren't missing' probably discouraged them from looking for their kid#but like. did the parents ever wonder. after months of not hearing from their kid.#did they go into town one day for some shopping only for their child to stumble out of an alleyway#dirty and alone and scared and with a completely blank expression#and doesn't even blink twice at their own parents? not even a spark of recognition?#thinking about when the Emergency lifted and the Whisperer's messages stopped.#how many parents suddenly remembered their children have been missing#how many parents rushed to the Institute only to find out their child disappeared years ago?#'what happened to them?'not sure. only they never say goodbye to any of their friends before they leave#like they don't even recognize them at all.#how many parents kept searching. kept following that thread. found their child in an orphanage with no memory of how they'd gotten there#anyways. food for thought!
