I was tagged by @gloryride forever ago to interview my girl--Thank you, bb! I'm so late to doing this that I'm not gonna tag anyone else, but feel free to yoink it if you wanna do it!

[Answers are directly from Valerie's POV before the heist in 2077.]

.ೃ࿔*:･ NAME?

Valerie Irene Powell. [laughs] Yeah, my initials are VIP. My dad had a dorky sense of humor, and my mom let him get away with it. "Irene" is my great-grandmother's first name on her side of the family.

.ೃ࿔*:･ NICKNAME?

Pretty much just "V" these days, which was all Jackie's doing. A lot of the staff and some regulars at Nishimura's used to call me "Blue," but that was ages ago. Overly familiar acquaintances who don't know me well but think they do usually call me "Val."

.ೃ࿔*:･ GENDER?

Biologically female, no gender alterations or augmentations.

A/N - Valerie is a cis woman, but I don't see that specific language being in her vernacular.

.ೃ࿔*:･ STAR SIGN?

I was born in Night City on October 12 2041. Misty tells me that makes me a, uh--Hey, Misty, what am I again?

Tall. 5'10" or 178 cm. And I admit I have a weakness for a sexy pair of heels, so I usually look a lot taller.

.ೃ࿔*:･ ORIENTATION?

People are out here fucking cyborgs with four eyes and chicks with gold dicks and electric nipples--What does this even mean? [laughs] I've never given it much thought. I like what I like, and I've liked a lot of different types of people with a lot of different things going on. [laughs again]

A/N: I say Valerie is bi, because that is the contemporary real-life word that best reflects her sexuality for me when I'm talking about her, but when I was really thinking about it from her POV and in the context of her world, I don't think she'd be too hung up on a label. She'd also probably see her wide spectrum of attraction as closer to the default, not the exception.

.ೃ࿔*:･ NATIONALITY/ETHNICITY?

I'm a typical American mutt. My dad's side of the family can mostly be traced back to Western Europe--my grandmother told me "Powell" is an Anglicized form of an old Welsh surname--and my mom's side is from the Eastern Mediterranean. Dad's side has been in NUSA for a long time (like two centuries before it was even called NUSA), but Mom's family has only been here for a few generations.

.ೃ࿔*:･ FAVE FRUIT?

I just love fresh fruit. It's such a rare treat in Night City--I'll take fresh strawberries or melons over any other kind of sweet treat.

.ೃ࿔*:･ FAVE SEASON?

Spring! When everything starts turning green and flowers are blooming. There aren't a ton of places in Night City where you can really experience that, but I know a few hidden gems.

.ೃ࿔*:･ FAVE FLOWER?

Hydrangeas, probably. Especially the blue and purple ones. Oh, and wisteria! A tree covered in blooming wisteria is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.

.ೃ࿔*:･ FAVE SCENT?

Freshly brewed coffee; new car smell; woodsy, smokey colognes and perfumes; real leather; whatever incense Misty uses in her shop; clothes right out of the dryer; lavender; a ton more that I know I'm forgetting!

.ೃ࿔*:･ COFFEE, TEA, OR HOT CHOCOLATE?

Strong coffee, black, maybe a little sugar if I'm feeling indulgent. Tea is nice, but it's not my caffeine fix. I like a cup of lavender or chamomile tea at night. Hot chocolate is too heavy and rich for my taste. A sip is nice, but I could never finish a cup.

.ೃ࿔*:･ AVERAGE HOURS OF SLEEP?

I try not to get any fewer than 6 hours, but that's easier said than done some nights. Okay, most nights.

.ೃ࿔*:･ DOG OR CAT PERSON?

You know, I've only ever seen one dog in person. A childhood friend's family had one--I don't know the breed, but it was a yippy little shit and it bit me! Never really wanted to see another dog, if I'm honest.

I like cats, though. There's a stray that hangs by Misty's place--He's the sweetest little guy. I picked up a bag of kibble we keep there to feed him when he comes around.

.ೃ࿔*:･ DREAM TRIP?

I've actually traveled a lot--My parents had to go to Biotechnica's HQ in Rome a few times when I was a kid, and they usually turned those trips into an excuse to have an extended European vacation. And I went all over the globe working for Arasaka for 7 years. I'd love to go back to Japan for non-work reasons.

.ೃ࿔*:･ FAVORITE FICTIONAL CHARACTER?

You're gonna laugh, it's so predictable. In my defense, I can't remember the last time I watched or read anything new--Actually, that's not true. Jackie made me watch one of those Bushido movies last week, and I just don't get it. Anyway. It's Elizabeth Bennet. Don't look at me--What's the next question?

Oh, no, don't put me on the spot like this! [laughs] Um, okay, I shot my first firearm when I was about 7. Under intense adult supervision--My dad was really serious about self-defense and the right to bear arms, which always surprised people because he came across as such a meek science nerd. I didn't like it--It was so loud, even with earmuffs. Funny how things change.

Is that kind of a heavy note to leave on? [laughs again] Okay, how about this one: I can't roll my tongue.

Video Game Infodump... 3!! (Disgaea 4, Chapter One Pt. 1)

[LONG post, most of it under a 'readmore' link, RIP to y'all but it's real autism hours again]

There's this tactical rpg called Disgaea 4 that I've had my eye on for a while now, so when it ended up being 60% off on Steam for Black Friday, I snatched it up. Not five minutes into it I found that it 100% would've been worth the full price, I love it So Much. It's like,, Fire Emblem but silly

The protagonist is so, so beautifully stupid. He's a vampire, and he's introduced w a monologue abt drinking blood- or at least, that's what it seems like, until he reveals that his favorite thing in the world... is sardines.

This man has four (4) traits: being pretty, gullible, sardine-obsessed, and so dead set on keeping promises that it's absolutely absurd.

Oh and he's the instructor for the prisoners of Hades, known as 'prinnies'. They're penguins that apparently are human souls who, to carry out punishment for the crimes they committed while they were alive, have been tucked into the world's saddest fursuits (blubbersuits?)

Also, the voice acting in this?? Is SO fucking good. I'm usually not a huge fan of English dubs, but this one is fantastic. Valvatorez' VA's passion shines through in every line, and it really brings this character to life, it's so much fun to hear.

[The VA is Troy Baker, who is known for his work in anime and video games, including the second incarnation of Greed in FMA and Excalibur in Soul Eater!! I went to his wiki and there's a section on NFT drama though, sad clown honk]

The story really kicks off when Val's beloved class of prinnies are 'kidnapped' before he can fulfill his promise of one (1) sardine, and he ends up rebelling against authority just to get those penguins their fish. They're set to be exterminated to deal with overpopulation- a big huge Yikes- but he doesn't care about that. The prinnies can be killed AFTER he gives them each a sardine. They can't die before he's followed through on his word!

To go with goofy characters, there are goofy items: for healing, I've got a fuckton of sardines, the beginner armor is a garbage bag, and every item description is rather silly (pot lid shield that simply says 'it can protect your body but not your pride' my beloved)

There are also goofy names. I totally forgot to take screenshots, but my fighter's name is 'National Holiday', and at one point I fought a prinny named 'Contact Lenses'

Back to discussing the story bc I'm obsessed with it, the first antagonist, kidnapper of the prinnies, is the warden of Hades. He's sort of opposite of Val, and I don't think I'm ever going to get over his design- no shirt, the silliest coat ever, and his EYEBROWS... reminds me a little of Ralphie (ask me abt Ralphie ask me ask me I dare you)

Even after we kick his ass, he refuses to let Val feed the prinnies, boooo

The government of the Netherworld is called the 'corrupternment', which is. yeah.

And Val's loyal servant also does not wear a shirt. Low-rise jeans that expose a man's hip bones are The Trend in the Netherworld, I guess.

This artstyle makes it look like all these guys got grabbed by some giant hand and were squashed around the middle... it's so funky

The quest for the prinnies continues, with Fenrich pulling some political bullshit, but I am. nearly at the image limit and it probably isn't reasonable to just post most of the entire first chapter of this game, huh.

Anyway TLDR; this is my favorite game now, and I adore Val so so much, he's Pathetic <3

Synopsis

A mysterious plague has swept the nation, the death toll rising dramatically with each passing day. At first, it was thought that it only affected wolves and the Krovolk- a people born of disease that made them crave blood and take on wolfish features -but soon, a disease with similar symptoms began to rip through the human population. Dr. Valdemar Bergesen is on the team of elite scientists tasked with finding the source of the illness, any connection between the Krovolk and human afflictions, and most importantly, a cure. But when not one, but two strange Krovolk appear at Valdemar's home, everything the doctor thought he knew about his work was turned upside down. Now, armed with a new truth, he must proceed as carefully as he can, since one wrong move could destroy him, his wife, and the world as he knows it.

Characters

#valdemar bergesen (35, he/him demisexual, human) is cold, calculated, emotionally distant, and a complete mystery to pretty much everyone around him, having arrived in town not too long ago. The only person who's seen him smile is Carmen, and if she told someone, they wouldn't believe her. He's always got a snide remark prepared for anyone he deems worthy of the insult. Buried in his work, he has little time- or thought about -anything else going on in the world around him, including people. Sure, he's Sergeyvna's second on the team dedicated to curing the plague, but he's not doing it for the humanity of it; his interest has always been purely scientific. Really, the only things he cares about that aren't work are his wife and keeping his past far, far away from the man he is today.

#carmen bergesen (32, she/her, lesbian, human) is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and sensitive women of her generation. Carmen was the prize every man wanted to win. She, however, had little interest in men; women were far more appealing, but in the society in which she lives, that was not an option. It was good fortune, then, that Valdemar came along and offered her the perfect marriage. Both would receive the spouse they needed in order to meet social expectations while being allowed the freedom of not needing to truly attend to one another. She does care for him, though, and considers him her closest friend, which is why she's quite determined to protect him from himself.

#svetlana petrova (27, she/her, lesbian, human) was hired officially as Valdemar's lab assistant, though Svetlana had little intent to get into lab work in the first place. But she was smart, needed a job, and Val owed her a favor; it all came together nicely. While she seems moody- and perhaps borderline angry -the majority of the time, Svetlana merely adopted the more brutish attitude to shut down the naysayers in her life. Where Val has the common sense to stop talking back, Sveta continues onward until she horrifically rips apart whoever was unfortunate enough to mess with her in the first place. The only person who gets to receive her softer words is Carmen, who she is definitely not dating. Publicly, anyway.

#irina morozova (71, she/her, heterosexual, human) The classic story of an ambitious woman in a man's world, who's husband "tragically passed" in an "accident." Brilliant in her own right, she was the obvious choice to lead the disease research team after the initial choice of her husband had to be rethought due to his passing. Her methods might seem unconventional, but results are what matter to her. She cares little for dancing around ethical questions while there's work to be done, just as she doesn't care for men questioning her authority and intellect. There's nothing she wouldn't do to get her way, and if that means blackmailing everyone around her, ruining lives, and going beyond what's considered humane, she would do it in a heartbeat.

#leonard serrano (29, he/him, pansexual, Krovolk) was an experiment. He wasn't Krovolk before entering the country. Having left his home after his father passed in search of better opportunities, he wound up a victim of the Morozova couple's dubious science. Imprisoned in a cell in their basement for a decade, he was forced to become a Krovolk and was used as a vessel for perfecting their ultimate experiment. By a complete fluke, he managed to escape, running as far from the Morozova estate as he could and then slipping into the first home he found; Valdemar's. His memory is a mess, his body even more so, and yet he still somehow finds a way to flirt or crack a joke. Certainly not your average joe.

#augustus lykke (31, he/him, gay, Krovolk) A light in a world filled with darkness, Gus is a regular bleeding heart. Having assumed the role of village leader after his family was taken by the plague, he's determined to find a way to stop his people from dying. He's not that smart, and he's not all that brave, but his heart can't stand the suffering any longer. Someone needs to do something, and he might as well be that someone. It's dangerous since, unlike other Krovolk, he's unable to take on a mostly human appearance. Ever since he was young, he always kept his wolfish ears, claws, and extraneous body hair. His family warned him to stay away for his own safety, but he doesn't have a choice anymore; if he doesn't do something, the entire world is going to die.

Ships

#dogpile is Val/Gus/Leonard. This is mainly a joke about Krovolks being werewolves a little to the left, but also the way that Gus and Leonard smother Val in affection and support (along with one another, of course, but Val is the one who actually feels smothered by it).

#violet hearts is Carmen/Sveta. Violets were used as code for lesbians back in the day, and it's fitting two women who have to hide their love from the public eye. But their love is endless and unbreakable, and they'll always be by one another's sides.

➝ Season Of Sacrifice. 🚨

It is vitally important that you read through all of this to understand fully what this time period represents.

MARCH 22nd – MAY 1st

The Season of Sacrifice is a 40-day period between March 22nd and May 1st. Some contend that it begins on March 19th, but those first three days are like a precursor to the main season. Its name was coined by the Dark Occultists of this world who believe that the Earth must be bathed in the blood of innocents to ensure a fruitful harvest and to invoke an archetype of the destructive forces of the universe.

This Season of Sacrifice is intimately connected to Astro-theology and its modern day constituent Astrology, also known as Celestial Mechanics. Although the notion of astrology has been ridiculed for decades within mainstream circles, behind closed doors the elite not only recognized these influences but incorporate them in developing their agenda for world domination and power.

This time period, in general, is just about death and rebirth; but as with everything, it was hijacked for evil purposes by these Dark Occult psychopaths. All they can do is take positive things and twist and pervert them for their own goals. So, let’s go over the general concept – and remember, it doesn’t matter if YOU believe in any of this, THEY do, and they act on it.

THE ZODIAC

It is based on the 12 signs of the Zodiac. The Zodiac is a time measurement system used by ancient cultures as a method of tracking the movement of celestial bodies over a course of time with our planet as the center point. As the Earth moves around the Sun, the position of planets and our star changes in the sky and this can be tracked using the Zodiacal system.

This system can be used for small time periods, like a single year or much larger spans of time, like a Great Cycle or Year (approximately 26,000 years). In either case, the constellation behind the Sun as it rises determines which house of the zodiac (or sign) the Earth is under or in. For example, on March 19th or 20th, the Sun will rise in the constellation of Aries (the Ram). Anyone born under this sign would be associated with the constellation Aries until April 17th when the Sun rises in the house of Taurus. In other words, each day of the year has a zodiacal constellation associated to it which the ancients (and the Dark Occultists) believe have a profound influence on an individual’s life, as well as the planet at large.

Here is an image of the 12 signs of the Zodiac plotted over a one-year cycle. In this image are two crosses at 45º angles with each other, marking the four seasons and their midpoints, which have occult significance.

The Season of Sacrifice begins when the sign of Pisces transitions to Aries, at approximately the same time as the Spring Equinox on March 21st. May 1st is the midpoint of the sign of Taurus, marking the end of this sacrificial period with the pagan holiday of Walpurgisnacht (val-PURGE-iss-nahkt). When the Sun reaches the highest or lowest point in the sky it known as the seasons of Winter or Summer, marked on the Zodiac by either end of a vertical line. The lowest position of the Sun, from a northerly perspective represented by the lowest point in the Zodiac, is between Sagittarius and Capricorn. The highest position of the Sun is represented by the highest point in the Zodiac, between Gemini and Cancer.

On a standard globe you can find the lines marked the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. These represent the maximum southern and northern points of the Sun as it moves in the sky throughout the year. When the Sun reaches the angle of 23.5ºN with respect to the equator, the Summer Solstice begins, entering the sign of Cancer. When the sun reaches the angle of 23.5ºS with respect to the equator, the Winter Solstice begins, entering the house of Capricorn.

The year can be further broken down into the Season of Life marked by the Sun’s emergence from the Southern hemisphere on the Spring Equinox, and the Season of Death marked by the Sun’s recession into the Southern hemisphere on the Fall Equinox. Within these two seasons, the archetypal story of the Zodiac is told as an allegorical tale of the symbolic creatures associated with each of the 12 signs. THE MINOR AND GRAND CROSSES OF THE ZODIAC

The Minor Zodiacal Cross is four quadrants of the Zodiac marked by the beginning of the four seasons, forming four cross sections:

• June 21st (Summer)

• September 21st (Autumn)

• December 21st (Winter)

The Grand, or Galactic, Cross is four quadrants of the Zodiac marked by the midpoints of the seasons. These times were each marked by Sabbats or the time for performing sacred rites:

May 1st (Walpurgisnacht – representing fertility, the emergence of life, and an offering of sacrifice of some kind to ensure a bountiful harvest);

August 1st (Lammas – representing a time of gratitude, pre-harvest thankfulness, and a celebration of bounty and life);

October 31st (Samhain – representing a time of reflection and self-respect, honoring the dead, contemplation of impermanence and death, and a time of preparation for winter); and

February 2nd (Candlemas – representing prediction, a time of looking forward, planning for the future, making resolutions, and the time when the darkest and coldest period of the winter is about to end).

By combining the Minor Cross point of March 19th with the Grand Cross point of May 1st, a 40-day period is outlined, defining a window of time known as the Season of Sacrifice.

THE SUN RISES FROM THE GRAVE

March 22nd is a day of special importance because it marks the 3rd day after the Sun begins its rise out of the Southern Hemisphere on March 19th. It is symbolic of resurrection from death, which is an astro-theological theme of many world religions reaching back into antiquity. In Christianity, for example, Jesus is said to have died on the cross and rose from the grave after three days, described as: “the risen Christ, the light of the world, the savior of the world,” bringing the life of spring to places ravaged by the death of winter.

When the Sun crosses the equator on or around March 19th it is said to be rising from the grave, or out of its tomb in the Southern Hemisphere. The third day after this process begins, the resurrection is complete, marked by the 22nd of March. The number 22 also symbolizes rebirth in Kabbalistic tradition.

To further underscore the three-day resurrection allegory, the 12 houses of the Zodiac can also be considered 12 great days of the calendar year. When the Sun dies on the cross, on December 21st, it spends three days in the tomb of death, three months after the Winter Solstice. The sunrise on 22nd of March is the first day after three great days of the Zodiacal calendar, symbolically depicting the time when the Christ rises from the tomb of death or the Season of Death.

MARCH 22nd and the SEASON OF SACRIFICE

The exact day for the beginning of the Season of Sacrifice is contested amongst occult researchers. Some contend that since the Sun begins its rise on the 19th of March that this is the beginning of the season, whereas others assert that since the resurrection requires three days, then it must begin on March 22nd. Using this latter interpretation, if you add the nine remaining days in March to the 30 days of April and add the first day of May, a 40-day period is defined.

LUCIFER

Despite the fact that the appellation Lucifer has become synonymous with evil, the earliest meaning of this word was actually positive. If the Creator is everywhere, in all things and beings equally, then the being who represents the Creator to all in creation would be a bearer of Light, hence the term Lucifer, which etymologically derives from the Latin Lux = “light” and Fer = “bearing” or “to bear.” Therefore, the one who brings Light is considered the positive Lucifer and the one that brings darkness is the negative Lucifer. The belief is that any dark magical working or ritual must be initiated during this season so that the agenda of the dark occultists will become manifest later in the year.

The Dark Sun, or Black Sun, is the symbolic representation of the forces that oppose creation, the forces of Involution. The dark occultists believe that in order for darkness to be made manifest in the world they must give sacrifice so that the negative archetype or force of Involution becomes active on the Earthly planes. Who Is Maxwell Frost? The First Gen Z Member Of Congress

Throughout his congressional run, the 25-year-old Democrat has focused his campaign on the issue of gun violence and crime on Florida's streets.

On Tuesday night, Florida Democrat Maxwell Alejandro Frost made history after he became the first member of Generation Z to be elected to Congress.

According to the Associated Press, 25-year-old Frost won his race for Florida’s District 10 with a sweeping vote, pulling in 59% of the vote from his Republican opponent Calvin Wimpish, who only gained 40% of votes from Floridians. Frost will now succeed outgoing Democratic Rep. Val Demings.

After earning his historic win on Tuesday, Frost took to Twitter to thank his supporters, writing:

“We made history for Floridians, for Gen Z, and for everyone who believes we deserve a better future. I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to represent my home in the United States Congress.”

Who is Maxwell Frost?

According to his campaign website, Frost is of Afro-Cuban descent. His mother and grandma migrated from Cuba to Florida during the Freedom Flights in the early 1960s with little to no money. To survive, his grandmother, Yeya, worked “more than 70 hours a week” in factories, where she was exposed to harsh working conditions. Unfortunately, the cycle of poverty trickled down to his mother. As a result, she was forced to put him up for adoption.

Throughout his campaign, Frost has used his difficult upbringing as a catalyst for change, hoping to build a brighter and better way of life for marginalized communities “left behind” in society.

The young Democrat burst onto the political scene as an organizer shortly after the mass shooting in Newtown, CT occurred in 2012. Frost served as the national organizing director for March for Our Lives, a group that advocates for gun control policy and reform. Before entering the competitive world of politics, Frost made ends meet as a Uber driver, PEOPLE reported.

With large support from Democrats, the rising political star raised over $2.5 million during his campaign. Frost received hefty endorsements from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts Sens. Elizabeth Warren as well as the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

What will he work to change in Congress?

Throughout his congressional run, Frost has focused his campaign on the issue of gun violence and crime on Florida’s streets. After the devastating mass shooting in Uvalde,Texas, the young activist challenged Florida Republican Ron DeSantis at an event over the governor’s second amendment views.

For Frost, the issue of gun violence hits close to home. Florida Politics noted that the young activist survived a chaotic shooting incidentin downtown Orlando.

“As a gun violence survivor myself and the former March for Our Lives Organizing Director, it is a great honor to have so many incredible gun violence prevention organizations and advocates behind me in this campaign,” Frost said during his campaign trail. “In Congress, I will work day and night to help create a world where people no longer have to fear gun violence, where students no longer have to hide under their desks for active shooter drills, and where we can put an end to the everyday gun violence that plagues communities of color.”

Now, that he has won a seat in Congress, Frost said he will work to reform harmful gun policies that have long plagued the safety of the American people. The young Democrat promised to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. He also plans on funding and supporting local community violence intervention programs that will ensure congress allocates at least $37 million to fully fund public research on gun violence.

Community Justice Action Fund, United Against Gun Violence, and the Newtown Action Alliance are just some of the gun control advocacy groups that have rallied in support of the star throughout his campaign run.

In addition to gun control, the steadfast progressive also plans to fight for Medicare expansion and environmental justice.

Frost wants supporters to look past his age

While some have questioned the young politician’s age, Frost told PEOPLE back in September, that he didn’t view his age as an obstacle, but rather an advantage.

“What we’re finding more and more, our generation is gonna have the most jobs in a lifetime than other times in history,” Frost said at the time. “[Members of Gen Z] move around jobs a lot, we will own the least amount of assets and property, we carry the most personal debt.”

The Florida native added: “I don’t think young people [on either political side] are interested in different issues — we all want resources, opportunities … we want our friends and people we’ve never met before to enjoy their lives,” he told PEOPLE. “We think about things like, ‘How do we protect each other? How do we build a government that protects the most vulnerable?'”
