Tumblr media
In a stunning display of skill and resilience, fourth seed Josshua Kinaadman claimed the men's singles title at the Dagitab Festival National Open Tennis Championship. Overcoming his doubles partner Eric Jed Olivarez with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory, Kinaadman's win at the City of Naga courts in Cebu was nothing short of spectacular. This victory not only earned him the PHP60,000 cash prize but also served as sweet revenge for his previous loss to Olivarez at the Congressman Edward Hagedorn Open in Palawan.
Doubles Final: A Battle of Titans
The doubles finals saw another dramatic turn as Johnny Arcilla and Rolly Saga edged out the duo of Kinaadman and Olivarez in a nail-biting match, 0-6, 7-6(6), 18-16. Arcilla and Saga's triumph in the PHP330,000 event sponsored by Mayor Val Chiong was a testament to their tenacity, sharing the PHP50,000 top prize.   Rising Stars in the Junior Category The tournament also spotlighted emerging talents in the junior category. Ormoc’s Kenzo Brodeth dominated the boys’ 18-and-under grand slam, defeating local contender Jonathan Largo 6-1, 6-1. In the girls’ division, Lapu-Lapu City’s Tiffany Nocos outplayed No. 2 Kate Imalay of Bato, Leyte, securing her title with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.   Consolation Pool and Team Events The consolation pool featured impressive performances from Cebu’s Juvels Velos and Samantha Ortega, who overcame their respective opponents, Nicholas Ocat and Donna Diamante. Velos later joined forces with Brodeth to win the 18-and-U boys’ doubles title, highlighting the depth of young talent in the Philippine tennis circuit.   Diverse Winners Across Categories The Dagitab Open Tennis Championship, a cornerstone event in the country's longest-running circuit organized by Palawan Pawnshop president/CEO Bobby Castro, celebrated a spectrum of winners across various categories. This included, notably, Jonito Crisosto and Danny Sajonia in the Classified doubles (B), followed by Erolito Remedio and Virgilio Vidal in the C+ category. Additionally, several other players shone in their respective brackets, collectively showcasing the rich and diverse talent present within the Philippine tennis community.
Legends Shine in Their Category
The Legends category was a notable highlight of the tournament. In this category, Mark Alcoseba emerged victorious in the men’s singles 35s, while Celestino Solon took the title in the 45s. Furthermore, doubles victories were impressively clinched by teams Alcoseba/Salupado in the 30s category, Benitez/Solon in the 40s, and Benitez/Yac in the 50s. These victories eloquently demonstrate that in tennis, the competitive spirit indeed transcends age, showcasing the enduring talent and dedication of these seasoned athletes.   Sources: THX News & Philippine News Agency.
