Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry. Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they haven’t seen it before. : )
For November we'll be exploring some uniquely camouflaged creatures… : )

The Phantastic Leaf-Tailed Gecko
A.K.A: The Satanic Leaf-Tailed Gecko, The Eyelash Leaf-Tailed Gecko
Scientific Name: Uroplatus phantasticus
Region: Tropical forests along central eastern Madagascar
Size: Only about 3.5" (~9cm) long, including their leafy tail
Interesting Notes: These remarkable little leafy reptiles are so well camouflaged, that, when remaining still, both predators and prey struggle to see them. Not only do they sport the warm colors and markings of fallen leaves, but even their skin's texture contains leaf-like veining. Interestingly, there is a tendency in males of the species to also have notches in their tails as though decomposing, but most female tails appear more intact.
Cool Facts- Yes, that’s actually its name. The satanic leaf-tailed gecko is named for both its leaf shaped tail and the small horns above its eyes. Originally described in 1888, it was thought to be a mythical creature from its beautiful appearance. Its camouflage perfectly blends in with the thick Madagascan rainforests. The gecko’s feet have adhesive hairs on their toes that maximizes their surface area and allows them to stick to vertical surfaces. If their camo fails, the satanic leaf-tailed gecko opens wide and shows off its vibrant red throat with the hopes of scaring off birds. Due to habitat loss and the illegal pet trade, these geckos are at risk. Luckily, three national parks protect the rainforests that the geckos call home.
Check out this large majestic fren! His scientific name is Uroplatus phantasticus!
The Smithsonian National Zoo writes, "While at rest, the leaf-tailed gecko's head faces downward against the surface it is resting on. If disturbed, however, it exhibits an impressive threat display. The gecko opens its jaws wide, exposing a bright red mouth and emitting a loud distress call that resembles a child's scream."
An impressive threat display indeed! Sometimes you really just need to let out a loud and off-putting scream tho 💕 ✨️
We challenge you to let out a nice long scream of your own today!

Your posts about dinosaurs or any kind of other -saur- on my tl brighten my day!
I did not want to give Tokoyami the classic bird so he gets a Uroplatus phantasticus. Momo gets a barn owl, Jirou gets a North Island Kokako because of the beautiful song of this bird.
