having lots of issues with nsfw spam/bots on tumblr

Blocking & reporting does nothing because there are thousands. I see them everywhere. they invade my asks & DMs. Just scrolling through the #plushblr tag I see them over & over. i dunno if they're real people or what. Thank god they're not men because i'd be so triggered I'd have to leave Tumblr. No idea what to do. this doesn't feel like a safe space. Every tag I browse I see them. I dunno how they do it. I report them every single time but I don't think Tumblr is moderated AT ALL. These aren't k!nk blogs of real people, they're like cam girl bots or something. I got FOUR in my DMs today, and they pop up on #plushblr PLUSHBLR! and JELLYCAT and #nostalgia and everywhere else. I'd hate to leave. I love the community, i love seeing cute & wholesome stuff. Within these trenches lie the wasted, the missing, the lost, the quality URLs taken in the latest waves of the war against the bots of Tumblr. Though they are blocked now, their sacrifices will not be forgotten. Here's a toast to the fallen URLs.

Hey folks! After a few weeks of the latest rounds of bots we just couldn't take it anymore, seeing URLs of all walks that were just too "Tumblr" to lie blocked and forgotten.

So! We've (I've, with prodding) opened a submission blog here for you to share with the world the lost URLs that are too good to let languish in your blocked list. Whether unfathomably funny, or hilariously ironic, or a name you cannot believe isn't a blog already, or something that gives you that terrible horrible moment of "Oh, that can only be Tumblr content," you can submit your screenshots here and we'll share them to the world!

We at the Fallen URLs Fields hope that all URLs lost within the trenches may one day be brought to life again through the processing of spam/bot block reports. Onward!

The Guideline Gist: - Submissions will be queued, asks are open, and I'll be running checks on this once a day or so. You may submit anonymously! - Default applied tags will be as follows: "Submission", "Shareable", "Tumblr bot invasion", and "Fallen-URLs" - Right now, available optional tags include: Humorous, Ironic, Why isn't this a blog yet, A toast to the fallen - Occasionally you may see "Mod Tested Mod Approved" awarded to particularly excellent bot names! - Submission contents will be labeled appropriately. Some of these names have been bordering on content warning! these fucking bots are getting crafty trying to tempt me with the promise of camels. i deserve to be around camels more than anyone and the fact that its being used against me is unforgivable in the eyes of a loving god

Is it me or are we getting a new type of spam bot?

General Notes:

Random photo for a profile picture, but has a default blog header image

Blog description filled with different types of links for various things: people's online portfolio/resumes/blogs, recipies, houses?

The links in these blog descriptions are formated like so: Link Name | Link Name | Link Name | Link Name | Link Name

Blog contents are filled with posts created by the bot with zero notes, containing a photo and a description to go along with it

The post's descriptions are the usual word salad that you see for online listicles (list articles made to drive site traffic) and/or products sold online (word salad meant to use as much keywords as possible to be picked up by a search algorithm)

Photos in it's posts ranges from average to horribly cropped (average in the sense that someone took the photo with their phone camera instead of in a photo studio)

(also some of the blogs kinda share some posts in common? like the muffins, the oddly-cropped sink repair thing, and the bread?)

Overall, kinda lame, if a definite improvement in looking a little more "human" than the other bots I've seen on tumblr.

If I have to hazard a guess on what they're trying to do, I think that they're trying to do that thing where having another website reference and link to your stuff (in this case, a newly-made tumblr blog) for serch engine optimization stuff (getting more clicks / site legitamacy?) ((im sure someone with more knowlege could definitely chip in with what they know later on))

Hey y'all, just a heads up, staff have updated the report page to make sure everyone's reporting the bots the right way. The spam option now encompasses bots as well.

It's another wave of bots upon us and I've got to say, they have really upped their username game.

I mean

the bot-follows on my main have died down a bit but now im getting a different breed of them (actual videos! i want to bleach my eyeballs) liking random posts on just one of my several sideblogs. anyone else running into this??

i think i accidentally opened a dm sent to me by a bot. There was no shady link and i didn't click anything else, just the conversation that I opened accidentally with a slip of my finger after trying to see other conversation.

Am I in trouble?

Okay the Twitter spam bots moving to Tumblr is hilarious.. These bots are set up with fake sites that on Twitter would embed to look like the real site they are mimicking the ad of of. Pretty smart ye? EXCEPT on Tumblr messages, LINKS DO NOT EMBED. So now, we fan see their clearly fake domain with the baited message and it's so funny to see the level of fail.XD

This was in the Fanime Communty tag alone. I'm gonna be real, I'm SUPER tempted to make a social network using this site just to avoid this bullshit. (As well as bullshit you see on YouTube and Twitter) @_@.
