Winter Troupe’s 7th Play: Hotel Compass 2/4
Tumblr media
In a certain region, in a certain town lies Hotel Compass.
Established over one hundred years ago, the hotel sits far from popular tourist destinations and even the nearest train station. Unfortunately with its poor location, competing hotels have quickly snatched up many potential guests and this once grand hotel has begun to fall into disrepair.
The hotel has also been short staffed for quite some time, forcing the owner, Owari, and manager, Tsuzuki, to perform the majority of the maintenance and upkeep of the hotel. They spend each day tending to the needs of their few, but always eccentric guests.
Characters
Note: The theme of this play is “compass” with all the characters have direction-based names. I have included the character’s names in Kanji along with the double-meaning.
Azuma as Owari (尾張, sounds like “終わり, End”)
Guy as Tsuzuki (津々木, sounds like “続き,Continuation”)
Homare as Higashikawa (東川, East river)
Tasuku as Minami (三波, sounds like “南, South”)
Hisoka as Nishi (西, west)
Tsumugi as Kitami (北見, north view)
Due to the length of this play, I will be posting it in 4 parts.
[ Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 ]
Tumblr media
Owari
What is it this time, Higashikawa?
Higashikawa
We have an emergency in room #302!
Hurry. come quick!
Owari
OH NO!
Tumblr media
Tsuzuki
Looks like a flood...
Owari
Mr. Nishi!
Nishi
My apologies... I really had no idea this was going to happen.
The utilities here are so outdated I didn’t know how to properly use them.
Owari
.... My apologies for not explaining how they work.
Can we get Maeda from housekeeping up here?
Tsuzuki
He is currently out today for personal reasons.
Owari
... Alright then, I’ll leave it to you, Tsuzuki.
Tsuzuki
.... Understood.
Azuma
Please allow me to show you to a different room, Mr. Nishi. Follow me.
Owari and Tsuzuki rush to Nishi’s room after getting a call from Higashikawa. The guest from the future tells Owari that he was not familiar with how the utilities in the hotel worked and thus flooded the room. Owari quickly moves Nishi to another room.
Despite his initial shock, Owari apologies for not explaining how to use the utilities to his time traveling guest.
Tumblr media
Higashikawa
May I have a moment, owner?
Owari
What is it?
Higashikawa
It’s about that Mr. Nishi...
Something about him seemed a bit.... off....
The way he holds himself, kinda makes me think he may also be in the hotel business. I get the feeling he could be a spy for one of our rivals.
Owari
What could anyone gain by spying on us?
Higashikawa
Well, I guess.... You’re right.
Without knowing, Nishi’s posture and way of carrying himself tips Higashikawa off that he could from a rival hotel.
Higashikawa tells Owari that Nishi seems to act and move like someone who works at a hotel and that he suspects the mysterious traveler of being a spy.
Despite brushing off Higashikawa’s concerns, claiming there was no reason anyone would spy on them, Owari decides to keep an eye on Nishi as well.
Tumblr media
Minami
Hello....?
Ahh ahh, no, I’m on the verge of death...
No no, in a couple days, no, in two weeks..
I don’t think I will even have a pen with me...
No, there is no need to worry.
You don’t need to come over here.
I will definitely send it to you.
I promise.
Huh!? C-Can you see me?
W-Where are you watching me from....??
Kitami
....
Minami
C-Could it be..... No way...
Have you been there this whole time... ?
It’s no use!
THIS IS FINALLY THE END FOR ME!
Tumblr media
Owari
MR. MINAMI!
Please refrain from trying to crush yourself under the sofa.
Minami
IT’S OVER!
The reaper will be coming for me soon.
Owari
Reaper...?
Minami
That man over there is my manager, Kuroda.
He is here to give me an ultimatum! He’s been watching me this whole time...!!
Owari
You mean that man over there...? He is a guest here at the hotel.
Minami
I know it’s him. Kuroda is a man who would do whatever it takes to get me to hand over a rough draft. He once climbed up the wall of my house to sneak inside. And he once pretended to be a delivery man so he could break into my house!!!
Owari
O-Oh, I see...
Minami
THIS IS THE END FOR ME! LET ME DIE!
Owari
P-Please hold on a moment!
I will make sure that Mr. Kuroda does not get to you, Mr. Minami, do not worry.
In the lobby, Minami talks with his editor on the phone. His editor demands that he hand over his rough draft for his latest work and tells him that he has been watching him from afar this whole time. Right after the conversation, the masked guest, Kitami, enters the scene. In a panic, Minami throws himself under a nearby sofa and attempts to crush himself before Owari steps in.
Minami tells Owari he suspects that Kitami is actually his editor in disguise. However, even after hearing Minami’s ramblings, Owari is still not convinced.
Minami continues to try and persuade the hotel owner, telling him that his editor is the type of person to go to extremes to get what he wants. He recalls a time when his editor even climbed up the side of his house to retrieve his latest draft. He is convinced that Kitami is his editor in disguise. Despite his own opinion, Owari promises Minami that he will keep Kitami away from him as long as he does not try and kill himself again.
It is from that point forward that Owari begins to pay close attention to Kitami. He watches the masked guest closely for any suspicious behavior or signs that he is trying to find Minami. Even without seeming to have a specific goal in mind, Owari causes quite a stir throughout the hotel around the employee entrances and exits.
Tumblr media
Higashikawa
Owner!
Do you have a moment?
Owari
What is it?
Higashikawa
I knew it all along.
Mr. Nishi is a spy!
I saw him behind the front desk!
Owari
Behind the front desk?
Tsuzuki
And that is why we have brought him here to have a word with us, however his story is a bit....
Owari
I see, then I will listen as well.
Tsuzuki
Please do.
Owari
Our apologies to have kept you waiting.
Nishi
No no, I should be the one apologising.
I am the one who went behind the front desk without permission.
Owari
Why did you do that?
Nishi
.... Well you see....
I am also an employee at a hotel.
But please do not read this the wrong way.
I am from a hotel in the future so I am not from any of your rivals.
Owari
Hmmm....
Nishi
I am learning about the history of this hotel.
So I thought it would be a good idea to try and spend a night here.
I then booked my room and came here.
However me being me, I naturally felt the need to want to help out around here.
Owari
Well if that’s the case, we are currently accepting applications for guest relations--
Tsuzuki
But Owner...
Nishi
Well I am sorry to say, but I will only be here until tomorrow.
Owari
Oh, I see.
Nishi
I am sorry to cause you trouble. Would it be alright if I stay here the rest of the night?
Owari
You are welcome to do so.
Nishi
Thank you so much!
Tsuzuki
Are you sure about this, owner?
Owari
Of course, it will work out.
Minami
.... A hotel worker... from the future? That is..
I feel some inspiration coming on!
Whilst Owari is investigating Kitami, Higashikawa calls him to the lobby. Higashikawa tells Owari that he found Nishi behind the front desk and he is now fully convinced that Nishi is a spy. Owari and Tsuzuki meet in the lobby to hear what Nishi has to say.
Nishi tells the group that he works in a hotel in the future and that he is conducting research into the history of Hotel Compass. As part of his research, he came to spend a night at the hotel.
Nishi denies that he is a spy from a rival hotel and his story supports that claim. Despite Owari’s bewilderment at Nishi’s claims, he decides to accept his story and continue his stay at the hotel.
To be continued... Read part 3 here!

2019 Best Press 3/4:  カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title by TANUKI
Tumblr media
While for many vaporwave vinyl is doubtless equal parts collector’s item and audio source, I don’t want to lose sight of the goal of this blog here: developing a canon of the genre for high fidelity enjoyment. That said, when I come across something remarkable or noteworthy about a particular piece of wax, even if it is not a “purely audiophile” object, I want to make mention of it.
And TANUKI’s カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title wax release is not only noteworthy, but contends for hi-fi consideration despite it’s status as a picture disc.
But let’s back up slightly.
Going back to the previous thesis on why we buy records, sometimes you just want to own a vinyl just because. Just because you’re a collector trying to compile a discography on wax — or, better yet, just because you truly love the album art. For me, カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title (Double EP) was undoubtedly all of the three “just be-causes”.
A while back, I noticed that the LP was going into its 3rd press, and decided to snap up a copy because I like Tanuki, I like Lum, and because of those other just becauses. Unfortunately the only format available was not the pink vinyl, but the picture disc. As I’m sure is well-known (because audiophiles are very loud about things they dislike), picture-discs are a big no-no in the audiophile community. This is because while a beautiful objet d’art, a serious listening session of a picture disc release will usually produce greater amounts of surface noise than any other type of vinyl. You can, of course, with the right system, neutralize and mitigate this process slightly, but true-blue hi-fi heads pursuing that elusive muse of “pure sound” would never give a picture disc a second look.
I’m not one of those people.
Tangentially, I’ve heard whispers of ghosts of rumors from when I was living in Shenzen, China — that various record suppliers (small batch Makers) are working out manufacturing and material processes that minimize these issues on pic discs to create appealing records that cover all the bases: hi-fi suitability, collector oriented visual esoterica, and price. I should also admit I have no idea where those companies are in terms of R&D and/or producing these. I end up catching a lot of very fast talk from extremely motivated enthusiasts, but Chinese is still as elusive a language to me at times as “pure sound” can be. With that in mind, however, it’s logical to surmise that advances in technology will eventually render the differences between picture discs and traditional black wax undistinguishable. So long as the world isn’t destroyed in some cataclysmic climate disaster (very real possibility), or -- as we are watching evolve now: World War 3. My view is that it’d be pointless to dismiss the format out of hand when there are active attempts to innovate it as we speak.
That all said, I know what to expect when a contemporary, big-label picture disc plays. During my college days, I used to spin wax at the university radio station. One of the previous catalog managers had a fetish for this “collectible” format, and was convinced he was doing the station a favor by purchasing all these vinyls, noting a pre-supposed resale value later. I remember throwing these on the well-worn Technics SP-10 we had as our main turntable, and listening to the occasional scratch, frequent popping, and constant surface noise, that for the uninitiated (bless you), sounds like a sustained “cracking” in your Rice Krispies — or for those born in the analog age, CRTV static.
So when I sat down with the Tanuki picture disc, I had this laundry list of preconceptions and prejudices about the format. I thought that I could listen to a moderately scratchy record once or twice, keep it as more a visual boutique item and then eventually include in an article where I bemoan the poor quality of the genre’s releases.
But then, I actually listened.
And it sounded… well, I won’t get ahead of myself. Here’s the full review:
THE MUSIC
BABYBABYの夢 — is doubtless the reason why many of us have bought the EP from a sonic perspective —especially if the band-camp reviews are indicative of trends. I still maintain that this is the Mariya Takeuchi sample/remix work par excellence. Tanuki hits all the essential notes here, a genuine respect and love for the sound-staging of its original source, Yume No Tsuzuki. I still get echoes of the original arrangement in my system, (ever so slightly) with a bright and dance-infused collection of unique sounds — particularly in that delicious, wide mid-range — that flesh out the track into its own sort of masterpiece.
何がGoin' On — the curatorial and conspiratorial side of my brain tells me that Goin’ On will probably go down as one the under-appreciated vintage bangers of this era of future funk. I can envision hipsters two or three decades from now sussing out a neophyte with pretentious questions about this track’s pitch-shifted sample draws from. It has that sort of vibe that you know hits with a certain subset of electronica fans — rich & vibrant, making the tweeters on your system work out in all the best ways — it’s just great.
がんばれ — Tanuki is at his best when he gets playful with brass samples. I firmly believe that the titans in this genre each have their go-to piece in their best arrangement — like Dan Mason’s creative vocal array, or greyL’s manipulation of micro-samples. For Tanuki, it’s whenever her gets a horn — synthesized or otherwise, into his production workflow.
ファンクOFF — continues Tanuki’s magic act, taking another city pop track more iconic for its soulful electric guitar riff and turning it into the most slap-worthy single on this EP. I prefer it when Japanese pop samples are fundamentally re-imagined, although I can see how the perfectionist tweaking of someone like Yung Bae is more appealing for some. Tanuki is undoubtedly one of the innovators of this genre, and there’s no more solid evidence of that talent than this track.
腕の中でDancin’ — if I ended up hosting a sort of mythical vaporwave grammies or something like that, (I’m available, folks!) I would probably go off on a Ricky Gervais style rant on how artists aren’t in touch with “the people” (read: me) because all we really want are more remixes of Meiko Nakahara songs — who given her impact on City Pop should have way more play in this genre than she does. This one, like most of the Meiko mixes I’ve heard, is a banger with an absolute fire bass riff punctuated throughout.
Radiant Memories — this might be my first certified “hot take” in the publication (they’ll be many more, I imagine) — but as far as I’m concerned this is the superior Plastic Love edit. I’ll just leave my thoughts there, so they can soak in with a portion of the fanbase who split my reddit account on an open fire of downvotes for suggesting that other artists than Macross 82-99 (Praise be upon him!) are allowed to touch this song as well. While Macross’s mix is definitely the more up-temo of the two, and that for some is the very essence of the genre, this slightly down-mixed version is both the perfect conclusion for the EP and ideal antithesis.
THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE
Signal to Raise ratio on the following albums:
カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title:  ~61.9db (1 db MoE)
Tron Legacy, Daft Punk:  58.4db
Love Trip, Takako Mamiya, Kitty Records Press: 65.8db
(ratings based on averages 5 minutes of sustained play on the testing unit, the machine actually complied this data on its preset, which is another fascinating part about this sort of vintage press-testing tech). The margin of error is because the machine, according to my mentor Dr. Juuso Ottala formerly of Harman International, informs me it was never meant to give accurate readings of picture discs, and to add about a dB of error margin.
One of the benefits of growing up in New England and, subsequently, New York, is that there are no shortage of heritage professional audio brand HQs in operation around a 200 mile radius from Manhattan to Boston. Off the top of my head, there’s Harman/Kardon, Boston Acoustics, Bose, NuMark, Marantz, and Rane headquarters within an hour’s drive from my two hometowns. Early on in my audiophile quest, I got my hands on some cool vintage gear — vinyl lathe testing equipment that has collected dust in both an old Harman technician’s storage unit, and now my parent’s basement. Over the holiday, I recently brought it out to do some surface noise testing on it to get a rough confirmation of what I was explaining in yesterday’s hi-fi guide. The innards of the machine looks eerily like a plinth-less linear tonearm and plate pair attached to a monitor. After making sure I’m not violating some kind of Harman International trade secret, I’ll post it on instagram.
Wanting to also get a firm idea on just how good my ear-test sounded, I grabbed another picture disc vinyl I had received as a gift a few years ago from my brother — the Tron Legacy OST. While I found the film passably enjoyable, my own preconceptions about pic discs, and a general exhaustion with french house — left me with no discernible desire to spin the thing. I hadn’t even broken the seal on the plastic wrap, so it seemed like as good as a blind test as any. I also grabbed what my ears tell me is a “good”, “heavy” press, a 1982 original dead-stock copy of Takako Mamiya’s Love Trip LP pressed by Kitty Records Japan. I’ve played it maybe a half dozen times since I bought it, so it’s as close to “new” 80s audiophile pop record as you can get. The Japanese are infamously anal about low SNR on their vinyl.
And, well, the results speak for themselves. The sweet spot for most black vinyl records is between 60-70db depending on age, weight, and a host of other frankly uncontrollable factors that aren’t worth getting into detail here, as I’d go on forever. The main takeaway here is that Neoncity’s and Tanuki’s record sat at the low end of the audiophile vinyl reference spectrum. Which in itself is a remarkable achievement for a pic disc. It’s worth taking a look at Tron Legacy, which just barely scratches 8db above a cassette tape, and 7db a Japanese vinyl from 1982.
This is all in an effort to say: damn, this is pretty good.
This also somewhat counters the usual “picture discs sound like shit” narrative that’s prevailed pretty consistently in the audiophile community. Tron Legacy? Yeah, that probably sounds like shit if I could bother to suffer through a listen. But whoever Hong-Kong based Neoncity is using actually makes “good” — if such a qualifier needs to be attached — image-pressed records. And that devotion to audio fidelity should be rewarded.
It might be time for me to re-asses picture discs on the whole, and that mind-expanding moment is something I owe to the fine folks at Neoncity.

“Any questions about my AUs I can make up answers to on the spot?”
PLEASE tell be both of those AUs because they sound amazing. Like I need it
I can give you little things I may or may not have mentioned on here before (the Hide+Gojyo one was so long ago, I really can’t remember) but if you wanted to know some little specifics I can work with it lol. What follows are some kinda… messy vague rundowns on what I would think about.
Shinigami Kanan AU is… simply a Yami no Matsuei crossover (Except ignoring the fact that the YnM cast would be stationed in Japan and not fucking Shangri-la/China)
As for which Universe it’s set in… depends on my universe but here it is. It stems from me thinking it’d be funny if Hakkai dated a Shinigami because they couldn’t die on him and then—– So post death, Kanan realizes she’s like super fucked up with remorse and/or other things tying her to the mortal world, and is approached with an opportunity  to be a Shinigami. It’s fairly mundane, though. It’s just like… a job. But she makes friends with the other Shinigami (bonding with Tsuzuki Asato over sins of the past, and an inability to cook, …there’s more to it than that but if you’re not familiar with YnM I won’t bother going into it). The real deal is that, of course, she’s not really supposed to interact with people she knew while alive. Because there would be questions.
At some point, though it’d just be super interesting if she and her partner/team while on a Shinigami case just happened to cross paths with the Sanzo party. I haven’t thought that much about what happens at this point, except Sanzo probably knows Shinigami exist so… like, whatever. Kanan’s still not allowed to just… do what she wants, with the living… but I mean she and Hakkai would absolutely have to just have… a long and deep discussion and idk… something. Haha~~~
As for the Hide + Gojyo being childhood friends bit, Kaneki doesn’t exist in this AU because IDK Hide just really seems like the type of guy to really zero in on one friend who needs him and like… not get that extremely close to other people. (Though he’d have other friends but…) I drew an art on this one once..
Gojyo’s a lonely kid who’s only got his older brother to look out for him (of course). Hide’s some obnoxious kid that moved into town and approached him out of nowhere. There’s an age difference of at least two but no more than four years because I feel like it (A younger kid looking out for an older kid is cute? idk).
Hide, little insightful thing that he is, picks up on rumors and bruises and Gojyo’s general reaction to things. He also decides it’s his job to make this older kid happy! He invites him to sleepovers and stuff. I also like the idea of him uhhhhh being a little shit to snooty adults in town, but being so cute about it they don’t notice. But that’s just me. Jien likes him though, that much I got.
Gojyo ends up running away or being taken from his home when he’s about 12 and he doesn’t meet Hide again until like 8-10 years later. They reconnect kinda easily. As an aside, Hakkai’s fond of Hide because he’s thankful to him for looking out for Gojyo all those years ago~~~
This is very, very self-indulgent.

Winter Troupe’s 7th Play: Hotel Compass 4/ 4
Owari
Are you really going to give yourself in?
Tsuzuki
Yes.
I am sorry for causing any trouble. My deepest apologies.
Owari
Don’t worry about it.... So why did you do it?
Tsuzuki
It was over something petty.
I was foolish.
It was during the time when I was taking care of my parents. I wasn’t able to work, so I was pretty low on funds. Shimoi tried to rob me of everything I had.
It wasn’t a lot, but when I tried to get him to give the money back, we got into a physical altercation.
I was able to escape, however in the end I could not be there before my parents passed.
Owari
I see..
Tsuzuki
....So I decided I first needed a place to hide, which is why I chose to come to this far removed hotel.
However over time, working alongside you and being with the other guests, I have become comfortable here and I would like to stay here forever.
But I have already made my decision....
It will remain just a dream...
Owari
This is a hotel that welcomes lost travelers..
And a place where those who come can recharge and get back on their feet.
We really owe a lot to you.
Once you have finished your time, we would love to have you back.
Tsuzuki
--- Thank you so much.
Tumblr media
Minami
Thank you so much for letting me stay here so long.
Owari
Thank you so much for staying here.
Minami
Next time I will come here for a peaceful holiday.
Owari
We look forward to it.
Take care, we hope to see you again.
Tumblr media
Owari
Thank you so much for staying here.
Nishi
And thanks to you too. Thank you so much for everything.
Owari
Take care, we hope to see you again.
Nishi
See you later, Grandpa Hii-hii~
Owari
HUH??
Higashikawa
Now that I think about it, Mr. Nishi kinda looks like you, Owner.
Owari
--- You don’t say.
Yes, hello? You have reached Hotel Compass. Yes, a reservation, alright.

TRAVEL LIGHTS (A 7-DAY JAPAN TRIP)
Day 1 to 3: Tokyo Tour
On the first day of your arrival, I suggest you explore Tokyo as much as you can. Here are the major attraction spots you should visit during your Tokyo trip:
Ueno Park
Tumblr media
You might want to visit one of the most popular public parks in Tokyo, located just near the Ueno Station in Central Tokyo. The park grounds were originally part of Kaneiji Temple, which used to be one of the city’s largest and wealthiest temples and a family temple of the ruling Tokugawa clan during the Edo period. Kaneiji stood in the Northeast of the capital to protect the city from evil, much like Enryakuji Temple in Kyoto.
Tokyo National Museum
Tumblr media
If you love history, you must visit the Tokyo National Museum. They feature one of the largest and best collections of art and archaeological artifacts in Japan, made up of over 110,000 individual items including nearly a hundred national treasures. At any one time, about 4000 different items from the permanent museum collection are on display. In addition, visiting temporary exhibitions are also held regularly. Good English information and audio guides are available.
Akihabara
Tumblr media
Otaku? You hit the right spot mate. Visit some Maid Cafes and play with maids,  walk around the electronic town, buy different kinds of games and such, buy souvenirs and play gatchapons while reading in their manga collections. You can even watch cosplayers in some of their conventions.
Tsukiji Market
Tumblr media
You might want to see this famous fish market before it’s relocated in 2019. Although it is famous for its great sushi and the Tuna auction, getting into the latter is not as easy as you thought. Since the Tuna auction is quite hard to get into, perhaps you’d consider joining their Tuna Auction Tour there.
Tokyo Disneyland
Tumblr media
Welcome to the kingdom of dreams and magic! Tokyo Disneyland with its seven themed lands offers fun attractions and fantastic services just for you. Meet Mickey Mouse and his friends,  you can even propose to your girlfriend (only if you have one) on one of their greatest fireworks shows.
Day 4: Shibuya Tour
Meiji Shrine
Tumblr media
Meiji Shrine (also known as Meiji Jingu) is located in Yoyogi, Central West Tokyo, next to the 1964 Olympic complex. It is a beautiful and peaceful swath of green in the middle of the jungle making it a good place to stroll in either day or night. It is also best to visit the place during New Years. Fee: Free admission on shrine grounds; 500¥ (PHP 242) to see the irises; 500¥ (PHP 242) to visit the Treasure House and Treasure Museum Annex
Yoyogi Park
Tumblr media
Yoyogi Park (Yoyogi Koen) is one of the largest city parks in Tokyo. It is located in Tokyo, a five minute-walk from Harajuku station, twenty minute-walk from Shibuya or Shinjuku stations. It is also along the most popular shrine in Tokyo, the Meiji Shrine. The park is very rich in nature and it is where people come to relax, exercise and attend events. The park's busiest time is during Spring and Autumn (cherry blossom and autumn leaves season). Fee: Free admission
Takeshita Dori (Street), Harajuku
Tumblr media
Harajuku is an incredibly famous and popular district near central Tokyo. It is home to stylish, unique, and reasonably priced stores, restaurants, and jewelry shops. Takeshita Street remains one of the busiest places to visit for tourists. Try to avoid visiting Harajuku on peak days such as Saturday afternoons. Early in the morning on a weekday might be better.
Harajuku Gyoza-ro
Tumblr media
Harajuku Gyoza-ro is a restaurant serving cheap and delicious gyoza (grilled dumplings). With the simple menu, enjoy two types of gyoza and refreshing vegetables at the Harajuku Gyoza-ro. Six gyoza costs 290¥ (PHP 140) the main reason why people are always lined up waiting to get in and enjoy the juicy gyoza.
Hachiko
Tumblr media
Meet Tokyo's most famous pooch: Hachiko. This Akita dog and his owner's story became a legend and a small statue was built in the dog’s memory in front of Shibuya Station. The surrounding plaza is Tokyo’s most popular rendezvous point and is always abuzz.
Day 5: Osaka Tour
Osaka Castle
The entire Osaka Castle Park covers about two square kilometers with lots of green space, sport facilities, a multi-purpose arena (Osakajo Hall) and a shrine dedicated to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The park is one of Osaka's most popular hanami spot during the cherry blossom season, which usually takes place in early April. Chūō-ku, Osaka, Japan. Admission: ¥600 (Php290)

The observation platform of this observatory is a bridge connecting the two towers of the Umeda Sky Building, whose roof features a doughnut shape that provides an unobstructed 360-degree view. While enjoying the breathtaking sights you can also directly feel the wind―which at 170 meters off the ground can get quite strong. From this observatory you can not only see all of Osaka but as far away as Awaji Island. The basement of the building houses the Takimi-Koji gourmet street with old fashioned images of Osaka from the 1920s. Oyodonaka, Kita-ku, Osaka Kuchu Teien Observatory admission fees: Adults: ¥1,500, Age 4-12 ¥700
Tumblr media
Tempozan Giant Ferris Wheel A 5-minute walk from the Osakako subway station, and steps away from the Kaiyukan aquarium, the Tempozan Ferris Wheel soars 112.5 meters into the air and has a diameter of 100 meters, making it one of the world's largest Ferris wheels. On sunny days, a ride is a roughly 15-minute-long journey through the sky, offering views of Mount Ikoma to the east, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge to the west, Kansai International Airport to the south, and the Rokko mountains to the north. Three of its 60 cabins are wheelchair accessible. Additionally, in-cabin announcements are made in both Japanese and English. Colorful light displays and weather forecasts for the following day are also popular features. The vibrant lights of Osaka Bay have undeniably become one of Osaka's defining tourist attractions.
Kaigandori, Minato-ku, Osaka General admission ¥800 (age 3 and up) Those with handbooks: ¥400 (up to 1 accompanying care person)
Tumblr media
Day 6: Kyoto Tour

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest
Tumblr media
The Bamboo Forest is located in western Kyoto, near Tenryu-ji Temple. It is one of the most serene, beautiful, and photographed places in Japan due to its towering bamboos. It could be very busy especially the peak season so visiting first thing in the morning is recommended. Fee: Free admission; 1000¥ (PHP 483) to rent a bicycle for strolling
Fushimi Inari Taisha (Shrine)
Tumblr media
Fushimi Inari Taisha is a Shinto shrine located in southern Kyoto. It is made up of seemingly unending trail of over five hundred vermillon torii gates that connect to other religious shrines. Fee: Free admission Gion District
Tumblr media
Gion District is the most famous geisha and sightseeing area in Kyoto. Many tourists come to enjoy it on foot. It is a nice place to walk along the streets, to stop by small tea houses, sweets shops, or restaurants. Grab the chance to wear a beautiful kimono before your trip ends!
Day 7
Universal Studios Japan
Tumblr media
Feeling like a playful child? Visit this awesome studio built just for you. The theme park offers many opportunities to take pictures with popular characters' mascots such as Snoopy, Hello Kitty and the puppets of Sesame Street.
