There is this immeasurable grief at the end of Blackcoat's Daughter that is so palpable to me.
Filling the void left by her abusive parent's untimely death, she attempts a corrupted catharsis, with the murders of the couple that travels with her until the end. The murders end up being hollow meaningless effigies that could never heal the cavernous grief and hurt held within her.
I saw this movie several years ago and there hasn't been a week that goes by that I don't think about how utterly devastating the scene above is. That scream yell of pure grief that I can feel in my bones.

Anyway, uhh. Hm. I made a couple of blocks for the mystery quilt today. Shoveled snow (again). Ongoing, I'm trying not to just vibrate with anxiety about going out of town tomorrow (again).
And after a lengthy bout of indecision, I did a random draw. So.
The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015)
Oh, interesting use of lighting in this one. Good atmosphere.

Enys Men really surpassed The Blackcoat's Daughter ability in testing my patience.

Sometimes the best thing a horror film can do is take things slow. Specially if it’s got something to show you or somewhere it wants to take you. The Blackcoat’s Daughter just took me there, like a long line of gunpowder slowly inching towards a powder keg of sorrow and damnation.

Eileen (2023) Directed by William Oldroyd
In 1960s Massachusetts, an unhappy prison secretary is beguiled by a new co-worker who pulls her into complicity in a crime that surpasses her wildest imaginings.
Candy Land(2022) Directed by John Swab
Remy, a seemingly naive and devout young woman, finds herself cast out from her religious cult. With no place to turn, she immerses herself into the underground world of truck stop sex workers. Under the watchful eye of their matriarch and an enigmatic local lawman, Remy navigates between her strained belief system and the code to find her true calling in life.
Longlegs (2024) Directed by Oz Perkins
Up next from writer/director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel) is the Nicolas Cage horror movie Longlegs, and the film just received an “R” rating.
Coming soon from NEON, Longlegs is rated “R” for…
“Bloody violence, disturbing images and some language.”
Mickey 17 (2024) Directed by Bong Joon-ho
Mickey 17 is an “expendable”, a disposable employee, on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of its memories intact.
Infinity Pool (2023) Directed by Brandon Cronenberg
While staying at an isolated island resort, James and Em are enjoying a perfect vacation of pristine beaches, exceptional staff, and soaking up the sun. But guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi, they venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and untold horror.

I got tagged by the wonderful @sunlitroom. Thank you!
May the migraines not make any returns any time soon, or rather never! And you made The Blackcoat’s Daughter sound like a very worthwhile watch, one more addition for the to watch list.
Last song - Молчат Дома (Molchat Doma) - Судно (Sudno)
Last film - one I did not plan to watch but stumbled upon on yt and got stuck with: “Fabrik der Offiziere” (1960) It´s a pretty much a whodunit in a military school during WWII, that´s in the end (figuratively and literally) not so much about the murder. (And I can´t recommend it in terms of historic perspective on WWII but for a perspective of the 60´s view on WWII)
Currently watching - the inescapable demise of idk it feels like everything but jokes aside guess that´s Star Trek Discovery, old school TV recordings style (*), but that´s the one show I can say I´ve seen with somewhat of a regularity, kinda really want to get back on track with Babylon 5 though
(* and I´m not sure if it´s the dub, different circumstances, seeing the first season the second time or all of it combined that kinda made it feel different)
Current obsession - I´m somewhat in this weird transitional limbo of no particular obsession really sticking currently, and curious about which one finally will
Tagging: no one today cause with the last I got no “return” and I really don´t want to be a bother but whoever sees this and wants to share their recent interests!
Do it and tag me!
