LION 2016
We chose not to have kids. We wanted the two of you. That's what we wanted. We wanted the two of you in our lives. That's what we chose. Because we both felt as if... the world has enough people in it. Have a child, couldn't guarantee it will make anything better. But to take a child that's suffering like you boys were. Give you a chance in the world. That's something.

The elite 5. - Hand picked from amongst the daughters of the great houses the original elite 5 were more like hand maidens to Yavana's Queens. As the planet evolved so did their role, becoming her lifelong protectors. They were often selected from a young age, trained extensively in combat before they would swear the oath. Not all that underwent the training went on to become elite, many dropped out before they made it that far, others were left on standby until an existing member either died or was retired before they could take on the role. They would never carry on the family name, were forbidden to marry or to raise a family of their own. Below the cut you will find the last of Yavana's elite 5, those that served Queen Apsara before the fall of House Yaksha. * The five are all named after some of the most famous of the heavenly nymphs ( Apsaras ) of both Hindu & Buddhist tradition. ** contains mentions of murder, torture and brainwashing.
Tumblr media
Urvashi captain . House Sharma. Faceclaim: Priyanka Bose status: deceased. weapon of choice: dandpatta ( gauntlet sword ) History: Urvashi was an unusual candidate for the elite guard, she was a first daughter for House Sharma and stood to inherit everything after her mother, but she never wanted the life of a diplomat and court bored her. Her family were furious but Urvashi had cunning. She pleaded her case to then Queen Radha VII and at just 14 she was admitted to train with the other hopeful candidates, the youngest ever. Radha had assured her family the training would prove too extensive and she would soon see sense, but she had not counted on Urvashi meeting Apsara. They were fast friends from that moment and grew up together, as they grew, so did their relationship. Alas, on the cusp of admitting those feelings, one of the elite retired from service due to her age and Urvashi was selected in her place.
Caught between duty and love, Urvashi's pride won out and she chose the former, taking the oath to serve Apsara's mother. The pair never admitted their feelings and years later, when Apsara met Arjun, what little hope Urvashi may have harboured went out the window. Urvashi died the the day Vikram's army invaded, trying to rescue her beloved Apsara. It took 7 soldiers to finish her off.
Tumblr media
Menaka vice. House Nair Faceclaim: Nayanthara status: deceased. weapon of choice:  Talwaar ( curved sabre ) History: Urvashi's right hand, Menaka was born and raised to be one of the guard, the fourth daughter of a second daughter. As such, she grew up slightly resentful of her more important cousins and more than a little jaded. But nevertheless she accepted her fate and threw herself into being the best swords-woman that she could possibly be. That didn't mean, mind you, that she had forsake all of the luxuries of coming from a great ( even if diminished ) House. Menaka liked to dress extravagantly, something that she was overjoyed to find out, her newfound position as one of the elite 5 would Grant her access to. She learnt to make peace with her situation, her skills were highly praised and she had found a great friend in Urvashi. Menaka died the day after Vikram's invasion. She, with the remaining members of the elite, devised a plan to help Apsara escape off world which quickly became a plan to help others flee as well. When the winch of the Airfield's eastern gate was damaged , Menaka didn't think twice, running back to hold it open for Yavana's population to flee the onslaught. She was shot in the back by one of Vikram's soldiers.
Tumblr media
Rambha House Mukherjee Faceclaim: Tannishtha chatterjee status: alive. weapon of choice:  Urumi ( whip sword ) History: Rambha was also raised to be elite guard. Her house, like Menaka's had suffered a decline in recent years, but where House Nair liked to pretend nothing was happening, House Mukherjee sought prestige wherever it could. They raised their daughters to excel in every aspect of society, including sending candidates to the training. When Rambha was selected to take the oath, her House was overjoyed. Her success was their success. Her loyalty between house and crown was sorely tested when Vikram invaded. House Mukherjee, recognising a chance to climb their way back to glory, turned its back on tradition and recognised Vikram as King.
While initially, Rambha had planned to leave Yavana with her Queen, she couldn't leave her family behind and went back for them. Once she learnt that House Mukherjee was in fact at no danger at all, and enjoying their newfound position, Rambha, in disgust, tried to leave. She was stopped and placed under house arrest. when she failed to see their side of things, House Mukherjee forcibly re-educated her. Today, Rambha serves as the elite guard once did, as handmaiden to Rukhsar of House Zafar, Vikram's intended Bride.
Tumblr media
Tilottama House Rio-Shaiza Faceclaim: Andrea Kevichusa status: alive. weapon of choice: bow and arrows. History: Tilottama was also born into a House of declining power. She was born very late into her mother's life, and sadly, her mother, desperately wanting a daughter and heir, died during childbirth. Her mother's sister, who had been in the room at the time, worked fast to take control of the House. Tilottama was raised in a very unhealthy environment. Her aunt and cousins were jealous that she would inherit everything once she came of age and made her life a living hell. She would escape court as often as she could, to the countryside where she loved to hunt and explore her ancestral lands. Eventually, her aunt began coercing her into renouncing her claim.
Scared of what would happen if she didn't, Tilottama gave up her inheritance, but now that she was dependent on her family, they saw her as a burden more than anything. To escape them, she fell into the training program at 16, three years later she made the elite guard. She had only been part of the guards for a few months when Vikram attacked. Shielded by the others from most of the horror, she fled with her Queen. Her House, considered no use to Vikram, was forced to flee as well. Always afraid of them even as a part of the elite, Tilottama never told Apsara the truth of her history until they had fled. Apsara's judgement of the House was merciless, Tilottama's aunt was put to death and her cousins imprisoned on the settlement camp.
Tumblr media
Ghritachi House Sharma Faceclaim: Frieda Pinto status: alive. weapon of choice: Trident History: Urvashi's youngest sister. While their middle sister would go on to inherit the title, Ghritachi only ever dreamed of following in her eldest sister's footsteps. Urvashi joined the training so Ghritachi had to, Urvashi became an elite guard so her sister just had to make the same rank. She worked hard for many years to be called upon and when she finally achieved it, her sister's praise meant the world to her. Ghritachi spent so long in her sisters shadow that when Urvashi died, a part of her died too. She survived Vikram's invasion and fled the planet in order to stay by her Queen's side as her sister would've wanted, but shortly after began to suffer survivor's guilt. Without her sister she didn't know who she was. It was a difficult road for Ghritachi, to come to terms with both the loss and carving out an identity for herself. Today the war has left her traumatised, and she no longer fights on the front. Instead she has become a medic, helping to heal those that do take up arms.
