i should shut up
i can't talk about girl in the fireplace ep. i just can't. its literally just joan redfern: french edition. gorgeous scenery, lovely spacescraft, cool creatures but, madame de pompadour looked at the doctor and projected louis onto him - much to the obliviousness of the tenth doctor. what her failure in this regard is that the doctor - at the end of the day - will always think he is right and you are wrong and if you are right, then its impossible and or brilliant. A direct foil to King Louis who always thought he was wrong and relied on others based purely on shyness versus the doctor's outgoing. the doctor interjects while louis sits back. and because both reinette thought she was in the right - she failed to realize that the doctor wouldn't be like louis. louis would've stayed but, the doctor? in that year? with no tardis? surrounded by rich aristocrats that were doomed to be beheaded?
baby thats why he left gallifrey in the first place and they were worse!
reinette would've been abandoned before she could do any thing remotely romantic with him even if there was no way back for him.
he would be stuck but, that romance? would've been the same romance as jessica rabbit and marvin acme from who framed roger rabbit (aka literally playing the game patty cake), much to reinette's growing irritated frustration. even reinette had to kiss him (yeah he kissed back blah blah but this is twice for ten someone that wasn't rose herself kissing him and yes, a cassandra!possessed rose isnt rose. neither is a tardis!possessed rose kissing nine. i want genuine rosenine and roseten alienhuman kisses ya cowards!) and at that point of the season, if anything, only reinette would've shoved it into romance. ten showed time and time again that he is fine with not kissing (unless the impenting threat of a situation that requires it because he loves running his mouth more)
just like joan, reinette was never a contender. sad that she died, yes, sad that she left the letter we got to hear from dw: lockdown, yes. but if it had been beyond that? her traveling with him? in the show? girl wouldve been given the cold shoulder fast and swift. just like rose got mickey to catch on what they actually do when landing somewhere and dr runs off, it would be rose telling reinette what to really do to be a fellow seasoned dr travelling company.
by the time reinette would've gotten the hang of it with help, queen elizabeth i would've been had armies on her side with no help. just like in the 50th. thats the difference between being an historical advisor slash mistress who wouldve been treated just like how she saw those "little girls" (but in the doctor's case, she would've been dropped off in the middle of 2005 toys r' us christmas night and dipped for nearly 7 hours) and the most notable headstrong queen that (like heavily implied by everyone including ten himself) was able to not only get the doctor to consentually go all the way but, didn't demean other travellers thst were with him (travellers that were romantically in favor of him. also she journed missy's chat room and im just like! my oldest best friend-boyfriend versus the time lord king of england and scotland like she got bragging rights)
ten really said i'll fuck a royal conqueror before i even have one out our three quarters of a thought to even consider the possibility of fucking reinette. it took me to the point of marrying off my now-a-person hand to rose to even consider settling down with her when previous comics showed i would be more than happy to settle down with lucita marne (a witch), dr. grace holloway, and river song thrice (?) at a drop of a hat of my own alien volition.
like reinette? are you not embarrassed? ten saw reinette as a good 1600s 1700s flirt of a time and only flirting. like its second hand embarassment but worse because they really thought they were right. i think thats why ppl dont like reinette or rather how moffat writes dr x historical female figure romance.
chibnall did better on dr x historical female figure romance and still retained thasmin whereas moffat failed in this regard. he did get better with capaldi but only with 12 x river than etd ever did with rose x 9 x ten x tentoo (im saying we shouldve gotten tentoo earlier in torchwood and had episodes not just BOOM INSTANT ATTRACTION IMMEDIATELY JUST LIKE ROSE DID WITH JACK AND ADAM LIKE NO BIG DEAL SURELY THIS WONT GO WRONG AGAIN?? CROSS FUNGERS THAT HE DONT DIE LIKE THE OTHERS EHEHE 'does it need saying' FUCK YOU DOCTORROSE SHIPPERS????
we deserve better than time skips and montages if you're going build it up to a non possessed rose kiss and its not with the alien she had to be possessed by two different mind-killing entities to smooch? on the mouth? (yes i remembered nine's proud fatherly forehead kiss he gave rose) like cmon now. how you set up everybody else to be the monsterfucker but when it came down to it, she chose the human?
like. im immensely disappointed in reinette but, thats joan redfern in french so, we get what we got. but its ugh the only ones we know canonically chose and fucked the monster who is the dr while they were essentially the human in the scenario is queen elizabeth i. and river. nefertiti. the iconique matilda the painter and a king louis ii mistress unnamed. and cameca from the aztecs?? yeah. thats it really. maybe marilyn monroe. maybe cleopatra (though its implied by mickey and rose in school reunion that we were robbed of an strictly egypt adventure) and maybe... thinly veiled, charley and yaz?
yeah i can't talk about girl in the fireplace. i can't talk about stone rose because the bbc cut out a whole portion of the book in the audio that david read and im more upset over that.

20, 24 for the ask game??
20: Least favourite story
Ugh, the whole Pete’s World story. There are others that either rub me the wrong way or are just done badly, but all of those episodes make me so mad! They’re a set up to pass Rose off to further 10′s storyline, which just sucks. Plus it all really goes against the theme of s2 (letting go and making the choice to move on, as we see with Cassandra, Sarah Jane, and Mickey, among others) and feels sloppy/a quick way to get a character off the show.
(And the Metacrisis Doctor is a quick way to assure viewers that a character has a happy ending, and because of that, nobody ever has to bother with her ever again.)
(Good for Moffat, I guess, who said Rose was the kind of girl you were surprised wasn’t pregnant as a teen. Or that Rose just wasn’t good enough for the Doctor.)
24: Any eras that you would like to know better?
I’ve been going through Three right now and isn’t he a DELIGHT. That entire era and UNIT is just the pinnacle of found family. I would love to get to know his era better.
And Capaldi era. I ended up not watching Moffat because he’s uncomfortably misogynist (along with his countless other problems, such as the fact that he can’t write a well-paced storyline) and his writing made me very, very angry. But I like Missy. And I want to like Clara and Bill and Nardole. So that’s next on my list, I think.

TV series ask meme: Doctor Who
send me a tv series and I’ll tell you:
my all-time ultimate fave character: I’m not sure I have a favorite, but I have clung to Clara harder than any of the others. I like all the companions I’ve seen much of, some more than others, but she was the one who makes me think the most. I also really love Martha and Rose. I guess those three are my favorites, but it depends on what we’re talking about.
a character I didn’t used to like but now do: River Song. I understand some of the criticisms of her, but she grew on me to the point that I would say I like her.
a character I used to like but now don’t: I never liked her to begin with, but the original portrayal of Cassandra in 1x02 makes my skin crawl a bit because of the transphobia involved now that I understand it, which I probably didn’t in my early years as a fan. I appreciate that the second and final portrayal of her involved showing her some empathy, which I guess was a slight rebound on that, but still. Bad taste in my mouth.
a character I’m indifferent about: Thirteen, so far, because I haven’t seen her or her companions??? And I guess that I was just kind of put off by the very hamfisted pop-feminist marketing angle they went for. Like, the fact that the Doctor wouldn’t be opposed to regenerating as a woman had been foreshadowed since Eleven, so I don’t really think that we needed Simm!Master being made even more arbitrarily sexist than he already was (which was enough and made some kind of sense character-wise) and Twelve and co being all ~the future is female~ in the text of the show. I mean, I guess hedging your bets against idiot dudebros who can’t read the writing on the wall. But yeah, I hope to… one day enjoy some Thirteen but for various reasons including the way the marketing just made me feel blank about something I thought I would otherwise be intrigued by, I haven’t gotten around to it.
a character who deserved better: Martha Jones the mostest. Also, Danny Pink. Ianto Jones (Torchwood). Also Owen and Tosh but especially Tosh. Probably a bunch of other episodic characters, including that Family of Blood whom the Doctor went full wrathful-Eldritch-god on. Oh, and Donna Noble.
a ship I’ve never been able to get into: Doctor/Donna as a romantic thing. There are others I’ve seen that I’m indifferent to or put off by, but that one is one that I can sympathize with the urge to ship but just… can’t.
a ship I’ve never been able to get over: Honestly since I’ve liked Doctor Who for over a decade, this is a hard question to answer. Doctor/Rose was one of my first ships as a teenager that I really understood in a fannish way, but over time the fire about it has cooled somewhat for me. I like it still, but I feel like over time I stopped being as OTP~ about it. So Doctor/Rose is a mainstream ship that I really like when presented in certain ways. Clara/Danny broke my heart. I liked Amy/Rory as they matured, and “together or not at all” made me really happy even if I was iffy about the early execution. I still tear up a little at the musical piece from that scene. And… uh… I am forever transfixed by Doctor/Master | Missy and Doctor (especially Twelve) & Clara and might be persuaded to ship it under certain circumstances. See, I can’t choose, but I guess if I had to it would be one of the last two. Oh, and it’s pretty much bits and pieces except on the Torchwood side, but one of my favorite rarepairs in the world is Jack Harkness/Martha Jones and I would’ve endgamed it so hard had Torchwood S3 ever existed.
a cute, low-key ship: Jenny/Vastra? I’m mostly pretty “oooh I can’t decide” about choosing ships and favorites, but in this case I was pretty, like, on-board with it. I wrote a fic one time which is more than I can say for even ships I’ve been more into. Doctor/River wavers between “I accept it” and being low-key to very occasional bursts of Strong Feelings that would put it in the above-category.
an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it: Jack Harkness/Martha Jones.
a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: The sexist, dehumanizing elements of the episodic romance in Love and Monsters have aged really badly. At first, I didn’t really fully understand why so many people hated it so much, but I get it now, even though I liked the underlying concept for that episode a lot. I also have a lot of discourse-y opinions about why, while I enjoyed some of it and rooted for Ianto and Jack both to be happier, together or apart, that I really don’t like Jack/Ianto endgame and/or it being treated like this Epic Romance when it really only became Epic because Ianto died horribly. I would just prefer to ignore CoE (I have never watched it) and endgame ship them with other people. But this is a sin to people who are major Janto shippers, and I support you! I just… don’t personally… jive with it. It felt like Ianto settling for me and then getting killed for it.
my favourite storyline/moment: The whole narrative throughline involving the Doctor, Clara, and Missy in S8 and S9. It really played with the whole “the bad guy is right” and “who is the bad guy” in a way that never became so nihilistic I couldn’t stomach it, and in fact led to Missy’s redemption, which is hitting all of my happy buttons.
a storyline that never should have been written: The ending of Love & Monsters (the stupid kids-show-write-in-monster resulting in a woman being a tile that performs oral sex for the rest of her lifespan is bad but didn’t have to be like that). I’m really bitter about The Girl in the Fireplace even though there are parts of it that I have grown to be at peace with. I still would probably be happier if the episode mysteriously vanished from memory. That bizarre thing with the Daleks in business suits and something about pigs? I hate The God Complex, like, a lot. I only ever watched it once and am afraid to try and stomach it again. And there are others I’m just indifferent about or have mixed feelings about, but those are my axes to grind. Interesting how, at this point, most of my gripes happened in the RTD era, though The Girl in the Fireplace was entirely the result of then-Moffat’s textual criticism on how stupid it would be for the Doctor to fall in love with a common girl. Probably my favorite episodes in S1 are actually the ones that involve the Slitheen, but I hate the fatphobia and fart-joke-heavy aspects of those as aliens. Would tweak the actual threat, though the writing of the overall story feels like some of the best in early Doctor Who revival to me?
my first thoughts on the show: The first episode I ever saw was The Idiot’s Lantern, and I really understood nothing about it except that it was science fiction, a revival, and something a British friend watched every Saturday. I was perplexed, but intrigued. Then I caught random smatterings of episodes over the rest of my Christmas break, and by the time I saw The Christmas Invasion on Christmas, I was in love and given a new lease on hope. I had just gone through a personal trauma, and it really helped me to feel something about anything again, and S3 and Simm!Master’s role really helped me grapple with what I’d been through and feel empowered enough to survive.
my thoughts now: I always tell people that I’m kind of indebted to Doctor Who for my life. And I feel like that’s true. My emotional involvement with it varies a lot, depending on when you’re talking to me, but it’s a comfort-attachment for sure. There are certain lines or scenes from it that form some of the foundation of my personality, when I manage to have one. I think it is at its best when it is showing love for what it is: healing, restorative, and revolutionary, but on the other side of the coin, cruel, dangerous, and destructive. I think its engagement with questions about the nature of love and responsibility toward one’s fellow-living-things is when it is the most fun. I haven’t really interacted with it as much since Clara left. I have seen about half of Bill’s episodes, the missing chunk being the middle of S10, and I’ve seen nothing after that. I will one day, probably.

Doctor Who S10 E11: World Enough and Time
RIGHT so i watched this one episode of doctor who the night it came out except i always seem to forget that it is on when it actually does come on its just a thing so anyway i watched it on iplayer obvi about an hour later after my mum said is doctor who not on tonight and i thought oh yeah it is well it has been probably because i dont know if this is actually the case but i just have it in my head that doctor who has been changing time slots every week so this time it was on at 18:45 i seem to remember it being on at like half 7 at some point but anyway enough about me lets get straight into this review of Dcotor Who??!
so as far as i can remember the episode starts with the docotr on a snowy planet about to regenerate and i remember thinging to myself wow those special affects dont look as good as they normally do when he regerantes like even in the other episode when he played a TRIK on bill and fake got shot the gold particles were a lot more thick and had a certain weight about them while in this case they seemed as thick as one part ribena 18 parts water they just didnt seem like they had much effort put into them and then the title sequence played and i thought ugh not this again you know because i dont really like the new title sequence well to be honest thats not strictly true i do like it much more than a few of the matt smith ones but nothing really beats the david tennant and rose theme song im not actually sure if it is different in any way to the christopher hecklestun version i just got different vibes from it ygm anyway so that happened and then what oh yes LO AND BEHOLD missy steps out of the tardis and says helooo im the doctor whouuoo the way she does now let me tell you how i feel personally about missy personally you dont have to agree with me and thats ok thats the beauty of opinions alright ok ? i can have how i feel and you can have how you feel and ne’er the two shall meet ok right well in my personal opinion i think that i feel that missy is the best character in doctor who to be honest now i know that might be quite an unpopular opinion among some people now im not quite sure who seeing as im not really part of massive doctor who fandom i just watch every episode like twice and then talk to my friends about it after they watch it with their awful sisters who for some reason fail to function if they found out something happened without them now i am an only child so i have the benefit of doing whatever the heck i want without being cyberbullied by the friends of any potential siblings well thats not strictly true this girl who is friends with the sister of my friend but who also is the sister of this really suspicious boy who has basically molested the whole of my year group and also half of the rest of the school and i walked past him outside gregs (greggs?) on the way home today and i spotted him as soon as i turned the corner i always do i have a sense for people im sure you’ll find out about this more in future reviews anyway so he hugged me while i was walking and said alright bae and i shook my head and he said whats wrong and i said im talking to you and he said awwhhh and i dont know what he expects this is the same answer i have given him since year 8 and anyway his friends just watched this and ate their food products and anyway yes so his sister “waved at me” on messenger a couple nights ago and im really not sure if thats something that messenger does itself to try and stimulate conversation or if thats something you have to do manually yourself and to be honest im really not sure which reality would be worse ha i guess you could make a doctor who episode out of that! lol seems like an amy and rory style episode although bill does seem to be quite down with the kids until she died which i will get to later on its still early days in this review dont worry
so missy gets out, pretends to be the doctor, another blue guy shoes up and really honestly im beginning to wonder what is the role of the blue people in this show because they were on the spaceship to watch earth blow up when cassandra became a thing and also they have just popped up around places over the years and i like them but who are they i want an episode just about the blue people so anyway he shoots bill and i was like oh no haha bill got shot but then she got taken by some spooky people now these spooky people were for me the highlight of the entire episode because im not sure really they went for like a real spooky hospital type thing kind of the empty child but also kind of call of cthulu vibes now im not going to put myself out and say that i know exactly what call of cthulu is but i think that it takes place in like a mental asylum or something similar and to be honest thats all i really know about it i think theres a spooky doctor which there was in this episode as well so anyway this hospital i LOVED the scenes in the hospital like they were just creepy and the way they had set out the beds was very reminiscent of the empty child indeed and bill just cleaning and the the fact that the drips weren’t pain relief they were just volume controls was v spooky and dark so i liked that and then i liked the black hole aspect of the episode and how time was different speeds on different levels i liked that
so then it turns out that the patients are being turned slowly into the first stages of cybermen which i guess was kind of obvious but nonetheless i liked that i also liked how they had sent troops up to floor 507 but they never came back now im not sure if that was because they actually did die or if it was just because of the time difference thing and the squad was still just up there looking around but it had been hundreds of years down below so anyway basiaclly bill is a cyberman she is the first cyberman and i liked how she cried and that was like a reference to the actual future cybermen’s teardrop eyes also i know missy will die somehow or be locked away at some point but i wish she doesnt get that happened to her i like her v mucc and also i remember something about the doctor dying on floor 507 or somthing related to that i dont know i might have just made it up but anyway he cant die next episode because he still is in the christmas special
overall i liked it i think it is nice how bill was the first cybermen but also im not really 100% on the actual history of the cybermen because they just seem to pop up everywhere and im not really sure who makes them or why and when because if these are the first and im guessing doctor who defeats them all then ?? but also in the old series what these models are from the mondasian cybermen how can they exist if these ones are from mondas but came into being on a spaceship which im guessing never makes it back to mondas are there other people back on mondas who also decide to make cybermen around the same time as this episode just by chance? also i got vorkuta off black ops 1 vibes from when the mission exodus you know step 1 get the keys step 2 skewer the winged beast etc etc um i wasn’t too fussed over the old master coming back i think it would have been a bigger thing if the marketing hadn't spoiled that tbh um yeah i cant really think of anything more right now so thats it i guess i know i did have points but i cant remember them and i didn't bother writing them down because im just so professional i can remember them in my head i have a special compartment for reviews
