Been working on personal story stuff between coms, just prioritize posting the latter first. But, since it's been a while without an OC update, here's some characters that pop up in The Lost Star. They're heavily involved on Denarmis's end.
Fun fact, but this is also the first Beast form refs I've ever finished for this story. I guess it fits, since originally these characters were meant to introduce the Beast Forms as their main purpose.

Around The World In 80 Anecdotes There's a school of thought that runs something like this: the average US citizen isn't very bright, has a limited attention span, and has an appetite only for the superficial. So if you want to write a book about something you feel to be important, you have to sugar the pill - with lots and lots of sugar and make sure it's a very small pill indeed. Go to Amazon
Excellent book about sites around the world and the characteristics that encourage genius to arise Excellent book, chock full of information and written in an engaging and also relaxing style. The author was a journalist for NPR for many years, and writes beautifully. He goes and visits each of the sites around the world that had or has a creative environment encouraging genius, and so it's part travelogue and at the same time full of facts and philosophical pearls of wisdom. Very enjoyable to read, and you learn a good deal while doing so. I highly recommend the book. Go to Amazon
Creativity on a world stage in place and time -- reading enjoyment and learning a lot at the same time Eric Weiner takes us on an immense journey in both place and time to explore instances of the emergence of creative genius in world history. Go to Amazon
Eric Weiner has definitely done a great deal of research for this book Eric Weiner has definitely done a great deal of research for this book. Yet, the book was nothing like what I expected. I was expecting more rigid framework and recommendations on how to transform cities into genius hubs. Weiner does provide such a framework, yet does it covertly. Go to Amazon
Not as good as Bliss This book was not as good as The Geography of Bliss - it almost seems like the author got a 2 book deal and felt forced to write a follow-up to TGoB. I just don't feel like his heart was in this one - TGoB explored a lot of locations that were more esoteric, this book not so much. An interesting read, but not a must read. Go to Amazon
Great idea to explore those places where there has been ... I was initially attracted to this book by the theme. Great idea to explore those places where there has been a hot bed of great ideas. But I must say, it was a disappointment. The best line I received from the author was his assessment of his college years. "A period of cheap beer and unsuitable women". I could identify with that. I found his style of writing very confusing and difficult to follow. Now that may be the result of my low IQ, but he demonstrated a high degree of resources from the fields of psychology and sociology and since my days at college when I was required to take courses in these fields I have always found them replete with phrases of double-speak and obfuscation. My area of interest has always been science and except for some brief mention of Newton and Darwin science was not a big feature here. He made Sigmund Freud out to be some kind of god. His liberal/socialistic leaning was also evident and not very entertaining. Whenever there was some use of a generic person he attempted to be politically correct by balancing between "he" and "she". This I found tiresome. Go to Amazon
Interesting book Well written expose on the possible reasons for clumps of genius in certain areas and times. I am sure some reasons are missed, but it was fun to read what the author thought. He travels from Greece to China to Austria and, finally, to US, to try to find common threads. A fun read. Go to Amazon
Perhaps others have researched the factors that make certain places ... Perhaps others have researched the factors that make certain places and times conducive to nurturing genius, but I haven't read them. To me, this was an exploration of a new idea and a fascinating one. If I had read it in paper form, I would have taken notes. The editing was somewhat casual, but the style was conversational and the reading experience thought provoking and enjoyable. Go to Amazon
You had to like the Author's Personality a good book every student should read Five Stars Five Stars Like Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers" A great book! The author knows what he is doing ... Great historical travel through genius history Thoughtful read Incredibly comprehensive book The title is way too cool, promising a true study of why some communities/civilization ...

“Stranger In My Own House”
Published: August 15, 2015
http://mcstories.com/StrangerInMyOwnHouse/index.html @jukeboxemcsa has a pretty firm policy: in his superhero stories, the bad guy never wins. I’m not sure what his precise reasoning for this is (”the 90s were awful for comics” would be my first guess, followed by “the 2000s and 10s continue to be awful for DC”), but I approve. Superhero stories should be fun, reasonably lighthearted, and avoid working though the consequences of their settings; and the good guys should win. These are non-negotiable. This story is about as close to violating that policy as he ever gets: in this one, “Femme Fatality”’s sinister plans are thwarted and nothing bad will happen as a result... but a different supervillain gets everything she ever wanted. Spoiler warning in effect. So, the God of Bullets Li Huang* gets zonked with mind-control perfume by assassin Femme Fatality, who wants him to murder the Prime Minister of Malaysia somebody. What she doesn’t realize is that Huang’s wife Gemma is (former?) supervillain the Doll Queen**, who owns him mind and body already, and is able to help him to use him to beat up Femme and rescue them both. This one is like Kiss in its careful doling out of information; unlike Kiss, much of the important parts are implied by what basically amounts to a twist ending right at the end, and so it’s able to be even less explanatory about what happened in the backstory. We know that Gemma has “kept her goals manageable”, and limited them basically to controlling Huang completely, but we don’t know how she got there: did she just stomp on his brain in the battle that’s briefly mentioned, or did he win and hook up with her later? What does Gemma and Huang’s marriage look like when they’re not fighting supervillains, or at least when they’re not having hot mindless sex? Does anybody else know about this whole thing (well, probably not, but you never know)? All of these questions are Good Questions to be able to ponder. I have an idea what happened, tailored fairly carefully to what I think is a good story, and a hot story, and what makes me feel warm and fuzzy about this one, but it’s open to interpretation and if you want to have totally different ideas, it’s open to that too. (My ideas of what happened are made fairly clear, I think, in my heavily-inspired-by story Masks.) God, I love this story. A flashback/backstory story wouldn’t go amiss, though. (Well, OK, it would, because it wouldn’t line up with my exact precise ideas of what happened, and would therefore be disappointing, but more of these two in some way would be great.) And as for the rules about bad guys losing? Well, I think it’s clear why this stays on the good side of the line. It’s a story about a happy, functional marriage (with a lot of kink), and the one person with actual nefarious plans is defeated unambiguously. If Gemma and Huang’s backstory and relationship is more complicated than most, well... I like complicated. ;) This is not the kind of thing you could do regularly, but this one case is boundary-pushing in the best sense: producing something unexpected, enjoyable, and thought-provoking that otherwise would not have been possible. Next time: the other sort-of bad-guy-wins story. Albeit with a very different tone. *My guess is The Shadow, although I’m not confident of that. I will say, as a Canadian, the idea of a non-fatal gunfighter superhero seems really silly to me, but it’s a comic book and, fortunately, not that important to the plot in any detail.
**Technically this isn’t confirmed, but she is the only opponent of tGoB’s besides Femme who gets named - in the first paragraph no less - and Huang, at the end, thinks of himself as a “doll” and her as “his queen”, so I’m calling it. Like Kiss, this one is all about subtle exposition.
