Jacqueline is and was NYC. This is a lovely little book of goodies on Jacqueline Kennedy. It's mainly pictures but has enough extra information that you feel like you know all about her years in NYC. These years took place before and after her marriage to Onassis. So if you want the extra bits and pieces of her life and loss of it as she and her dear sweet lover, navigate through the years of her cancer treatments, this book is for you. It was her son that wrote her beautiful eulogy and also allowed the shrine of flowers and notes as New Yorkers, who felt she was theirs, left their thoughts and flowers in an outpouring of grief for the loss of her life. Jackie was NYC! Go to Amazon
Great Photo Book As I've said in previous book reviews that I've posted on Amazon, I have over 650 books about the Kennedy family, so I'm always surprised when I see photos that I've never previously encountered. This happened with "New York Jackie". The photos were clear, and well-documented (although there was one that had a mis-identification). Since there was no text, it only took a little while to "read" the book, but it is definitely one to which I will return time and time again. Go to Amazon
I spoke with Jackie once she was sweet and kind I spoke with Jackie once she was sweet and kind. Her escort was trying to prevent me from talking with her, but she put his arm down and we had a short conversation. We lived in the same neighbor - hood, I spoke of her children and how they were shopping for a Christmas tree several blocks from where they lived (with a group of secret service surrounding them) she was happy talking about her children and I was always happy to see them. Go to Amazon
All the wonderful New York City photos you could want of this ... All the wonderful New York City photos you could want of this former First Lady and fashion icon. These pictures definitely capture the next phase of Mrs. Kennedy's life in a way that seems to honor her style and respect her, rather than harass and stalk her. The book is not large like a coffee table book, but it is a good size and put together nicely with a sturdy hardcover and pages that are a substantial thickness and weight. It's worth the money and really fun to look at the lovely photos of such a beautiful and beloved woman. Go to Amazon
Five Stars love it. Go to Amazon
Five Stars Loved it. Makes a great coffee table book Go to Amazon
Highly recommend this hard back book - great as a gift too !! This is the best book . This wonderful woman was the right inspiration and truly someone to look up to . She was not perfect . But to me and I'm sure to others beyond unique in her way with words . Just reading her poems u see how creative she was her drawings her sense of humour . I encourage girls who want to get out of the world of the TV reality porn stars to look at this book and see a woman who didnt follow . Like audry Hepburn and I'm not comparing because they are both skinny - Jacqueline and Audry do what they do - their own thing ! This book is the best !! I love that its hard back and I just adore this woman ( not the fox hunting ) but adore everything else . Especially how she was as a mom !! Love her style sooooo much !! Go to Amazon
One of the better composed photo books on Onassis One of the better composed photo books on Onassis. I enjoyed the New York setup of the book although I sort of wish pictures of her entire life in New York City had been included, not just her post-White House years. After all, she was raised in New York, gave birth to Caroline in New York and often visited with JFK. Still, I thought the book included some rarer photos. Go to Amazon

Spectacular Book As much a photographic exposition as a documentary of the city, this book can overwhelm you with its pictures. Page after page of high-impact photography may put you into visual sensory overload on the first pass. Bolsheviks behind closed doors Some of the most high-profile victims of Stalin鈥檚 purges, namely, those who as privileged party members, were accommodated in the House of Government - the huge, forbidding apartment block opened in 1931, on the Moscow River鈥檚 embankment - were able, once Khrushchev sanctioned de-Stalinization, to have plaques erected there in memory of their loved ones. Some even sought to have the relevant family apartments converted into museums, as secular shrines to the departed, although Moscow鈥檚 housing shortage, which remains a constant whatever the changes in ideological climate, militated against this outcome. Go to Amazon
This is a fantastic book and well worth the time it takes to ... This is a fantastic book and well worth the time it takes to read. The reviews that complain about the profuseness of coverage miss the point, which is to allow the reader to become deeply immersed in the lives and attitudes of the Bolshevik elite of true believers. They thus come across as real human beings, in spite of their inhuman ideologically driven behavior. This book will give the reader a depth of understanding of the terrible tragedy that ensued upon the eventual triumph in 1917 of the millenarian politics of the Russian oppositional intelligentsia of the late 19th century. The author has penetrated the dry facts of history and created a compelling saga of one of the most horrible chapters of human history, and done so in a way that will bring about deep reflection on the part of thoughtful readers. The book is a non-fiction War and Peace. Highest possible recommendation. Go to Amazon
An amazing cultural/political/social history of the Russian revolutionaries This is a massive hybrid work that tells the personal human story of the Revolutionary Soviet elite. The book is centered around the story of the massive housing complex in Moscow built for the elite around the time of the first five-year plan (around 1930). But the book doesn't limit itself to that scope. It looks both forward and back at the lives of those who lived there. One of the very best parts of the book is the coverage of these people's lives *before* the 1917 revolution. Go to Amazon
Five Stars Was Bolshevism a Millenarian apocalyptic cult? purpose-built housing complex designed for the members of the new socialist government seemed like such an intriguing idea that I wanted to see ... Fermenting Pilgrim's Dream Guide! I purchased this book on a whim at a book tour of Tara's, and what a wonderful impulse it was to buy it! The event was laid back and relaxed, and this book is relaxed as well, but in the best way possible. It is an easy and delightful read, told in a story format full of funny anecdotes concerning her crazy project. It is honest and straightforward, but with a genuine encouragement behind every word. The recipes and descriptions are easy to understand for the lay fermenter, but can easily be manipulated into more advanced and delectable treats. The book is also full of beautiful illustrations and is very thoughtfully put together (I think the author may have done the illustrations as well?) Go to Amazon
Skip it! I checked this book out at the library. The author was living in a commune in Oregon. She says she has a dream, and she has to take a bus and teach about fermented foods. She goes on about how she was looking for meaning in life. She talks about how she liked to eat ethnic foods when she lived in Houston, how she lived in Pennsylvania, New York, and then an Oregon commune. The woman talks a lot about herself. She talks way more about herself than she does fermentation. She travels around in the bus. She goes to California, and stays at a pot farm and gets stoned. She makes some fermented foods there. She likes to make mead, beer, and cyser. She just throws a package of store bought yeast in them to make them and calls it a day. At one point she drinks so much of her alcohol she can't remember conversations she had with people. One Yoga instructor guy she has no recollection of even meeting. She has random people coming in and out of her bus. She eventually goes to Arizona and stays at a goat farm. She gives a very basic recipe for how to make dairy kefir. Then she goes to some New Age community by Tucson and talks about their beliefs. She stops in Dallas, but she says she doesn't like Dallas because they don't share her "values". She goes on to Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, and then Tennessee where she meets Sandor Katz. Now that was special! I have his book, and it is very thorough on fermented foods. She goes to Polyface farm to meet Joel Salatin, who I have great respect for. Eventually she goes on to New York where she hooks up with an old boyfriend. Now she is going through Maine. I am just thoroughly sick of this book. She now is going to go back to New York to hook up with her boyfriend yet again. She always says the universe is telling her things. She states she wants to teach people about fermented foods, but mainly she just teaches people that are already in to fermented foods. She does go to a few schools, but mostly she goes to events already populated by fermenters. Too bad she could not reach out to mom's with children with Autism-me! Autism support groups! Kids with Autism greatly benefit from fermented foods. Oh but I live in the Dallas area and she doesn't like people in Dallas. I did give her three stars though because she is a fermenter. I love fermenters! She does give recipes in the book, but I really recommend Katz and Shockey if you want to ferment and are new. In this book she has simple illustrations and very basic instructions. Skip it! Go to Amazon
Tara Whitsitt's life is weird, wonderful, and full of great recipes. FYI: If you're looking for a basic how-to guide on fermentation, this isn't it. Go to Amazon

Most remarkable Our one trip to Southern Africa three years ago continues to haunt me with its natural beauty so reading the authors story adds so. Much more understand ing of the huge continent that we saw so little of. Go to Amazon
Compelling and beautifully written A lively, engaging memoir that beautifully describes how Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Jeffrey Gettleman came under the spell of both Africa and the woman he loves. His narrative takes us along the dusty and dangerous path of a compassionate journalist in an often war torn region. His love of Africa is deep and can be felt even when he describes hopeless and tragic situations. A must read. Go to Amazon
Wonderful book. Gettleman truly loves East Africa Wonderful book. Gettleman truly loves East Africa. Icanunderstand why having spent 4 yearsin Uganda myself in the 1980s. Mzungos either love it or hate it in my experience. Brought back to an old man some wonderful memories. "Le mal Afrique""! Go to Amazon
Such a good read. It will hook you from the first ... This book!!! Such a good read. It will hook you from the first sentence. It was recommended from a podcast I listen to, "Pod Save the World" (highly recommend that too). My daughter has the same love of Africa as the author and his stories, experiences and love of Africa helped me to understand how she feels and why. The author weaves his personal life that evolves as his career does the same and how his love of Africa first hindered his personal life but then became such a huge part of it. Go to Amazon
I only wish there was more about the politics and history of the places Gettleman wrote about and less about his love life. Howe Very well written. I only wish there was more about the politics and history of the places Gettleman wrote about and less about his love life. However, I think Gettleman captures well not only the tensions inherent in being a white, American journalist covering a region usually depicted through simplistic tropes and narratives, but also the contradictions present in the experience of trying to be a progressive force as a white man living in a region that still is entangled in its colonial past. Overall, it is a good read. Go to Amazon
and even - often - fun to read There is not a dishonest or shallow word in this book. Its rich descriptions and insights seem wrung from the author's gut as much as from his fierce intelligence. It is impossible to forget, urgent to relish, and even - often - fun to read. Go to Amazon
Thank you for sharing Africa with me. I had always felt a pull toward Africa. I was fortunate to visit S. Sudan during a small window when it was "safe". I loved learning about other countries in east Africa, and the story of your love for Courtenay and your children. Go to Amazon
A love story on so many levels Could not put it down. Raw emotion. Insight into a dedicated reporter's mind. A love story on so many levels! A view of Africa that is both depressing and uplifting. A view of U.S. politics in Africa that is mostly depressing, regardless of the administration in charge. Worth reading by anyone remotely interested in Africa, in journalism, in The New York Times, or in a romantic love story. Go to Amazon

This book picks-up from the previously published Full Spectrum. I'm not sure how any reader who was paying attention could feel the book is in any way "deceptive": 1) The book is intended as a 50th anniversary companion to the original Full Spectrum, which covered the 1967-96 period in great detail. 2) The new book contains a page with instructions for those who don't own Full Spectrum to obtain a free PDF of the book to accompany the new volume, and 3) the new book has lengthy 50th anniversary sections on the top 50 figures in Flyers history, 50 greatest victories, 50 key moments, etc. that span the entire 50 years. Go to Amazon
You're not a TRUE fan of the Flyers unless you own this book...! Warning....this book is HUGE....! Over 600 pages. Excellent recipe book. Some of the best recipes from some of the best restaurants in one of the best cities on earth. There's some darn good food in Austin and now you can make it at home. Go to Amazon
A delightful gem to read, to cook from, and to plan where to eat! Austin Chef's Table is a delightful treasure of a book. The author tells you about over 50 of the best restaurants in the city, and has fun commentary and pictures about them, as well as one or more recipes from each! Having lived in or near Austin for decades, I was surprised at how many places I really have to make a point of going to now. And I am delighted to find many of my old favorites as well. Austin is not just about BBQ and Tex-Mex. There are certainly more high end food trailers in Austin than probably anywhere. There are amazing Vietnamese and Korean restaurants, as well as dining that features local, sustainable produce, with an emphasis on health, such as the macrobiotic oasis of Casa de Luz. Go to Amazon

one of a kind book. This book is extremely interesting for anyone interested in cartography or history of Minnesota. There are maps on every page beginning in the 1600s when the Americas were "discovered". You will not find another book like this anywhere. Go to Amazon
Great History/Maps/Minnesota Book! Saw this book in my college's quarterly magazine, as it was put out by a Macalester alum. Got it as a Xmas gift for my parents, so I didn't look at it that much. But they told me they absolutely loved it and it's really interesting. Nice balance of photos and text. My mom was especially impressed that Native American history was properly addressed. I purchased the book new and thought the price was fair. Go to Amazon
Wish for even more Great volume for the price: excellent array of maps, especially promotional/tourist maps, of Minnesota from years past & (near-)present. Details often shown as insets just whet my appetite for seeing more. Originals must be truly fascinating. Probably for the price and size of reproduction this is the best that can be managed.
