Snow Cemetery. This church was built in 1827. The obelisk in front is a memorial to the 57 men lost at sea in Truro during the "October Gale of 1841" that took place on the 4th. It was said that hundreds of fishermen were pulled out of the sea throughout Cape Cod. From Chatham to the tip of the Cape, at least 50 wrecked ships were found scattered along the coast. So many sailors were lost in Cape Cod during that storm of the century that it became customary when women were deciding whether or not to court a young man to ask one question: are you a sailor? If yes- then the date was off.

Today in Great Lakes shipping history. December 23rd.
—————IMPORTANT WEATHER WARNINGS AND UPDATES——————
2022: Vessels have been seeking shelter since late Thursday. Among them, Kaye E. Barker was anchored in Goulais Bay off the Canadian shore above the Soo. Herbert C. Jackson, Hon. James L. Oberstar, Paul R. Tregurtha and Philip R. Clarke were on the hook above DeTour. Mesabi Miner and James R. Barker were anchored at the southern end of the Keweenaw Peninsula, east side. American Mariner was headed for St. Ignace to drop anchor. Burns Harbor was stopped off Port Inland. Traffic in the Duluth/Superior area was at a standstill. (See map above)
Storm-force wind warnings covering Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior have been issued by the National Weather Service. These Storm Warning-strength winds, which are higher than Gale Force winds, are to whip across the Great Lakes Friday and into Saturday. Some of these wind gusts on Lake Superior could top out at nearly 70 mph, meaning they’d be approaching hurricane-force winds.
The waves being churched up by all this wind will be huge. The NWS meteorologists in Marquette expect waves up to 35 feet and some possibly higher on Lake Superior. That’s the same wave height as the monster storm that sent the famous Edmund Fitzgerald to the bottom in two pieces, with her 29 crew aboard, in 1975.
Waves could build to 19 feet in Lake Michigan along a stretch from Muskegon to South Haven. On Lake Huron, the biggest waves will be on the Canadian side of the lake. Lake Erie’s highest waves will be from the Cleveland area and east.
Back to Lake Superior, here’s what meteorologists from the NWS office in Marquette are forecasting:
“The wind … will be increasing to north gales Thursday night (to 51 mph), and then storm force winds (to 69 mph) through Saturday. The strong gale (to 51 mph) drops off by Sunday night. In addition to the winds, strong northerly winds will usher in cold air and a heavy freezing spray hazard and wind-driven waves in the eastern half could exceed 25 feet Saturday.”

Lol Whenever I read something by Stephen King, I end up having a crush on the villain. Leland Gaunt, Andrew Linoge (well, storm of the century isn't a novel but screenplay was written by king). Am i the only one?

STEPHEN KING TV WEEK
I re-watched Storm Of The Century (1999)
It's Stephen King TV week, in which I'm looking at 3 Stephen King made for TV films and miniseries.
During a huge snow storm on a Maine Island, the residents are invaded by an evil entity in the form of a man.
The final choice for the two week Stephen King marathon came down to a handful of options, but ultimately "Storm Of The Century" was chosen because of its quality.
This film is directed by Craig R. Baxley, who I know best for directing 1988's "Action Jackson". A movie that's not exactly good, so much as unintentionally hilarious.
Despite my opinion of Baxley's previous work, he does a really good job here, building tension and managing a long story with a big cast. "Storm Of the Century" is a solid bit of television.
It also doesn't hurt that this miniseries was an original idea penned for the screen by Stephen King himself.
This film/miniseries definitely has a made for TV feel, but a high quality made for tv feel, which is more than I can say for some other Television adaptations of King's work. Since it was an original King story, I assume the ABC network put a good budget behind it, and that budget shows.
The biggest problem with "Storm Of The Century" is that it is overly long. You might find yourself getting bored if you try and watch this in one sitting. It's loooong, and at times you're definitely going to feel that length. It was originally released in three episodes, and broken up into those three parts is probably the best way to enjoy it.
However, despite the length and some other small grievances, this is by far the best miniseries I watched for this marathon. If you're looking for a film that feels like a Stephen King novel, this is it. And, like many of the films I watched for this marathon, the cast is excellent and doing their best to sell the story.
While there are Adaptations of King's work that I personally prefer, I could see this being a fan favorite. When so many bits of King on film are disappointing, you tend to cherish the ones that work as well as this does. The themes, the style, the references...all working in favor of fans of the author. Even the ending, considered King's weak point of writing, is probably one of his best.
Anyway, this two weeks of Stephen King on film comes to an end. I can't say I loved the whole experience, but never once was that the fault of the iconic author himself.
All I know for sure is I had fun and there's enough Stephen King on film to do another marathon of his stuff in the future.
