"Call Me Geno"
I imagine as the seven Star Spirits of the Star Sanctuary are the highest ranking in Star Haven, Geno has a great deal of respect for them. The Star Spirits, of course, respect him fully in return for being the one to take the initiative of going down to collect the pieces of the Star Road and repair it, even when its destruction meant the all Star Spirits, including him, would be too weak to manifest on the surface without some sort of vessel.
When Geno returns to Star Haven, he's unsure what others will make of his newfound identity drawn from the hand-carved doll he possessed during his adventure below. But the other Star Spirits were more than happy to adjust accordingly and quickly switched to calling him by his new name when asked.

Unused text in the Japanese version of Paper Mario provides early/placeholder names for the Star Spirits (translated into English in the image) that reveal that the Star Spirits are supposed to be grouped into three pairs of matching concepts with Eldstar presiding over them.
When arranged in a circle (as they are in-game in their hall in Star Haven, as well as in the menu), Eldstar does not have a counterpart, but each of the other Star Spirits is matched up with the one opposite. Mamar and Kalmar are parents, Skolar and Klevar are a teacher and a student, and Muskular and Misstar are a young couple.
This raises the interesting possibility that these pairs of Star Spirits were supposed to either have matching/connected abilities, or were planned to interact at some point during the story. In the finished game, almost all interactions between the Star Spirits happen when all seven of them are present, so that no relationships between any two specific Star Spirits are able to be showcased.

Top: in Paper Mario, Star Haven contains a bizarre, slightly billowing object in the background that resembles a giant jellyfish, possibly intended to be a stylized cloud, aurora or veil.
Bottom: viewing the object from below in a model viewer reveals that it has a very faint checkerboard texture.

Commission for @dannypageoflight!
"An SMRPG party reunion...except it takes place after Paper Mario 64, and Geno knows fully well what crimes Bowser has committed against Star Haven. Bowser is entirely unapologetic, Mario and Mallow are trying to keep the peace for the sake of the reunion event, and Peach looks like at least part of her would wanna watch Geno kick Bowser's tail for everything he did."
Enjoy!! And thank you!!!

Since Paper Mario was (originally) intended to be a sequel to Super Mario RPG, and the Star Haven was (originally) intended to be the same Star Road as its predecessor, it actually really makes it hurt worse that Bowser enlisted Kammy Koopa's help and stole the Star Rod because it then frames Bowser's scheme as a terrible, gut-wrenching betrayal. Like, Geno goes on this whole big adventure with the guy, and maybe tells him/the group about his home, and Bowser just seems like a big ol' meanie who's actually a softy. But then, as it turns out, one of the people you'd trusted your LIFE with, not to mention the wishes of every person on the planet, steals the very thing that is CENTRAL to not just your job, but your culture. Your way of life. Your being. And, once again, putting the world's wishes in jeopardy. It's now something Geno's going to completely blame himself for. And just... that betrayal would hurt SO badly, especially because he doesn't show up in that game (maybe because he got sent to do other work, idk), meaning he can't personally stop this.
Frankly, I have to seperate the two universes in my mind, because the actual, irreperable harm that the events of Paper Mario would do to Geno and to the rest of the cast to an extent is just too great to feel good about.
Oh, and sure. The argument can be made that Bowser was never a good guy in SMRPG, that he's always been like this, that he only acted out of necessity. True. I don't disagree. But when you travel together through such a life-changing adventure, when you overcome great trials together for a shared goal, it generally happens that people become closer to one another. They become kinder. And that's the turning of the knife; they all knew Bowser was a bad guy. But I really think Geno and the others would feel that if someone you'd been through life and death situations with, someone you called a companion and friend, betrayed you at this level, all for the love of ONE woman he can't get over and who doesn't love him back... that's pretty rough, to say the least. They knew he was bad, but... not like this.

This is my take on Geno from the SNES classic titled "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars"/(SMRPG). I am planning to make a 11-Part Mario/(Crossover) Fanfic, featuring the Mario characters, not only will it take place in the Mushroom Kingdom, but also in lesser known areas like Sarasaland and Star Haven/Star Road.
In the fanfic, Geno here after many years of not being in the Mushroom Kingdom makes an actual return, not only to see Mario and company, he is tasked to recruit seven unknown characters to become heroes, chosen by the 7-Star Spirits. Geno must recruit the 7 unknown characters in order to stop a great threat that came from another Nintendo series.
This is what Geno looks like in my Mario fanfic, he does have noticable differences from his original look. I gave him torso armor with the symbol of the higher authority on it, I gave him clothing that supposed to be the kind of garbs angels wear.
Star spirits throughout the Mario series always seemed to have angel-like characteristics to them, including Geno. I wanted to keep that angel-like characteristic for Geno, I made his true star spirit form to look more angelic and similar to how The 7 Star- Spirits look from Paper Mario 64.
(I do not own these characters, Geno is the intellectual property of Square Enix and Nintendo. Mario and Iggy Koopa are the intellectual properties of Nintendo.)

While it makes me happy that potential new fans will get to experience Thousand Year Door, it makes me sad how overlooked the first Paper Mario is. I mean even in Paper Mario discourse the first one only gets mentioned along with Thousand Year Door as “good” Paper Mario games, but no one really talks about the first one. After mentioning both, they just go straight to showering Thousand Year Door in praises. Heck Nintendo probably noticed this too, either that or they might think since the first one is already technically on the Switch, that it’s okay to skip it.
Personally it’s our favorite one. It just feels the coziest to me, and the atmosphere in some locations are so ethereal. Can you imagine how beautiful Shooting Star Summit, Star Haven, Flower Fields, Crystal Palace etc would have looked (Not that they need a glow up) No one also wants to mention how it has better level design than its sequel, which goes for a more linear approach (To be fair I guess that’s subjective, if you do prefer linearity) However both games do have backtracking, but I personally feel it can be more annoying in TTYD, because of its straight forward level design.
I could say more on what I personally prefer, but in the end I just don’t want people to ignore/dismiss it even more. For those who plan on getting TTYD for a new experience, I highly recommend not skipping the first one. Also I do love TTYD, the first 3 Paper Mario games were very important to my childhood, and they all will always mean a lot to me.

~ was watching some Paper Mario videos the other day specifically the Star Haven & the Starway areas I wanted to see more of Geno’s homeland :) In the Japanese translation (It’s called Starway in English) it’s called Star Road omg it’s all so amazing and pretty it makes me wanna draw it sometime ;w; 💫🌟when I was watching some gameplay I didn’t know they also had a starship too. I did knew that they have a Star Rod in the area. I love the designs for both of them. Yep their a bit different than in the Kirby franchise I love seeing Kirby references in Mario games hehe xD🌟🍄

tell us stuff u like about the movie :)
oh god where do I even start
SPOILERS BTW IF U HAVEN"T SEEN THE MOVIE IF U WANNA SCROLL GO AHEAD!! 1.Princess Peach Character: I don't know why people dislike her personality! Many say its cause she's too much Daisy to which, I could understand. But remember you play as her in Mario Bros 2, Super Princess Peach, 3D world, Sparks of hope, Battle Kingdom, The old RPG game from N64, Super Paper Mario, And from what I heard she was suppose to be in punch out! Her character was really good and I love how much they actually gave her personality, how she protects her people, some backstory on how the toads raise her
I just love seeing the lore of her past and how much she develop cause of it
2. Mario and Luigi Dynamic: DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN??? My god their brother bond is so cute and adorable at the same time. I wish we did see more of the two. I know we got small parts with the dinner scene, them in the diner, in Luigi flashback. It was all really dang cute on how much they are attach to each other, I guess its been that way for them which I get! It's better seeing the two have a good relationship like most fans do it.
But my god the ending made my heart swell seeing how Mario didn't wanna let Luigi go and how he kept his promise, its like I saw in Mario face he wanted to cry seeing Luigi and is so happy to be okay. I just...AGH THERE RELATIONSHIP IS SO DAMN PERFECT . I also love how Mario gives Luigi a nickname and its Lou, I awed to myself when I heard Mario called him that
3. Bowser is a fruit. I think I am in love with him <3 Not only he got looks but he is such a dork to wanna be with princess peach and will do anything for her. Let alone this man plays piano and sings his heart out? Oh yeah this guy is perfect. I don't know why people dislike his character. They say its cause he's a "simp" HES BEEN A SIMP SAYS DAY 1
4. DK and Mario: I Won't lie I really loved their battle, let alone I love DK personality. A lot of ppl didn't really like him bc they see Seth rogan as himself, but I really don't! I love how they made him a cocky jerk, and enemies to Mario, [which makes sense due to Jumping man and Donkey Kong] I also thought it was funny that DK lost to cat Mario to all things. I also love how the two still have a on and off hatred thru the movie but they seem to be close <3
5. SEEING KING BOO AND KING BOMB-OMB WAS COOL AS A SMALL LITTLE BG CHARACTER NGL I GASP <3
6.The Finale: Seeing Mario hiding and losing all hope, the others still battle at the end of the day, But what so cute was his main inspiration was the commercial both Luigi and himself made to save Brooklyn, his home town. Mario gets up for the final battle as he goes to fight bowser and get the power star, almost dying Luigi steps in to protect Mario. WHICH WAS SO AMAZING FOR HIM....I LOVE SEEING LUIGI HIDING HIS FEARS TO JUST SAVE MARIO..THAT HAS BEEN HIS CHARACTER SINCE DAY ONE,
7. Bowser is in a jar as punishment which I laugh so loud since I am the only one who knows jar jokes
8.THE YOSHI EGG AHHH!!! I REALLY HOPE THEY MAKE A SECOND MOVIE AND SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN!!!!
9. Major Easter eggs from other Nintendo games! I know we see it for a split second but its so cool seeing them there <3
If I see the movie again [WHICH I HOPE] I will def see what else I like about the movie for sure,

AFTERMATH (Part 2)
AU where Paper Mario is a sequel to Super Mario RPG, takes place after both games.
Summary: ♡♪!?, having heard about Bowser stealing the Star Rod and sending Star Haven into a panic, goes down to the surface to retrieve his body in the hopes of confronting his old traveling companion.
(Part 1 here)
(Part 3 here)
(Ao3 version here)
♡♪!? took a deep breath, steeling himself. While he knew full well that the Honorable Star Spirits wanted him to rest, let go of his negative emotions, and do his work in Star Haven until it came time to take ☆♤♩☽, Eldstar's, place, he simply couldn't seem to settle. If it had simply been a case where Bowser had kidnapped Peach, he wouldn't have worried, but this was different. Bowser had crossed a line, a line that he should have known was there, and even worse, this wasn't some stranger's work. This was Bowser, someone who he'd risked life and limb with. As cheesy as it sounded, their bond had been forged in combat and fire, and throughout it all, he'd really, truly thought that while Bowser was stubborn, he could also be counted on when it really mattered. He'd thought that while perhaps friends was a strong word, comrades seemed to suit them well.
It seemed that his positive opinions were quite misplaced.
☆♤♩☽'s dimming, the world terrorized by wishes, the guilt of not being present, the betrayal of his comrade... the cold, sharp dagger turned in his gut, icy feelings of betrayal flooding through him. He needed to do this, needed to hear from the Koopa King himself.
Taking another breath, ♡♪!? leapt from the Star Road, flinging himself toward the marble-like planet below. Below him, towns and forests whizzed by, the star not stopping until the familiar roofs of Rose Town came into view.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Once nighttime fell, ♡♪!? carefully approached the Inn. He felt bad for borrowing this body unannounced, but it was the one he was most used to and he didn't have time to waste. Looking around the room, ♡♪!? quickly located where the toys usually were, but... oddly enough, the Geno doll didn't seem to be among them. He looked at a few of the various shelves, but to no avail. He was so engrossed in his search that he missed the sound of quiet footsteps coming down the stairs.
"H...hello?" echoed a tiny toad voice, and ♡♪!? turned to see Gaz peering at him with bleary eyes. "Who... who are you?"
♡♪!? blinked, somewhat panicky. He hadn't meant to wake Gaz, but now that he had... on the one hand, he could spend the energy to materialize himself just like all stars could, but he also didn't want to make his presence publicly known. His intention was to confront Bowser and be done with it, but if it got out that he'd come back, it might cause his other friends more pain knowing that he hadn't come to see them. As he wrestled with himself, Gaz's eyes blinked into wakefulness. "You... you're Geno, aren't you?"
♡♪!? blinked, then dimmed slightly. Well, so much for subtlety. He bobbed up and down slightly in a gesture of acknowledgment, glowing a little brighter at Gaz's widening smile. Suddenly, two small palms came up as if cupping him in his palms, tiny tears streaming down Gaz's cheeks. "Geno... You're back..."
The star jumped up to his head, almost bouncing on top of it, and Gaz let out a quiet laugh. "You're looking for your body, right? I think Mallow has it. We've been sending it back and forth to each other, and we've even become pen pals. If you wanna find it, you'll have to go up to Nimbus Land."
With a twinkle, ♡♪!? hopped off Gaz's head, standing before him once again. Suddenly, a warm glow surrounded his form, causing Gaz to look away. When the light dimmed, a vermilion-colored star-shaped being floated before him, the smile on its face reminiscent of Geno's. "Thank you, Gaz. I have some work to do here, so I can't stay, but thank you for taking such good care of my body. Although we must part once again, don't worry; I'm always watching over you."
A few more tears slipped down Gaz's cheeks, and the young Toad wiped them away. "Yeah! Don't worry, Geno! I won't ever forget!" With that, the star flew out of the window, deep into the night sky. Gaz approached the window slowly, staring at where his starry friend had gone as though he wanted nothing more than to follow.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After a short while, ♡♪!? arrived in Nimbus Land, quietly infiltrating the palace. After a few moments of navigating the winding hallways, he came upon Mallow's room, where the fluffy prince was clutching something close in his sleep. As ♡♪!? approached, he could see that it was the doll that had served as his body throughout such a life-changing adventure.
Carefully, the spirit freed the doll out from under Mallow's arm, trying to ignore the guilt that coursed through him at the thought of simply grabbing his body and leaving. Normally, he wouldn't bother, but truthfully, he had little choice; it expended too much energy to be on the surface in his natural starry form, and even more energy to take on the appearance akin to the ones that the Honorable Star Spirits had used whenever they'd come to help Mario during his efforts to retrieve the Star Rod. Possessing a body was much less of a drain, and even though ♡♪!? hoped that things wouldn't come to blows, it would be much less of an issue if he had an actual, physical form.
Once the doll was out of Mallow's grasp, ♡♪!? began to settle inside, but couldn't stop the bright light emanating from the doll as he did so. Behind him, Mallow's soft breathing trailed off into a quiet "Huh?" as the light intensified. After a moment, wooden fingers curled and uncurled, the doll slowly hopping down from the bed as he became re-acclimated to this body. He stretched his arms and took a few steps, stumbling briefly but managing to catch himself as his so-called "muscle memory" kicked in.
Suddenly, behind him came the rustle of sheets, and as he turned, a young face filled with disbelief stared back. "G-geno?" Mallow asked, his voice barely more than a breezy whisper. "That's... that's you, isn't it? You're back, aren't you?"
The wooden face stretched into a small smile as Geno turned to look at his old friend, feeling that if he had the ability to shed tears, he might have done so right now. "Yes, Mallow. It's me."
In a rush, the little prince scrambled from his bed, embracing Geno in a tight hug. A few tears escaped, but Mallow sniffled determinedly, keeping the accompanying rainfall at bay. "Geno... I'm so glad you're back!"
"I am too," Geno murmured, a small smile spreading across his face as he returned the hug. After a moment, Mallow pulled away, giving him the wide grin that the young prince was known for.
"I've been hoping you'd come back. Gaz and I have been writing to each other and sending your body back and forth, and I have so much to tell you! But..."
At this, Mallow's cheerful expression became more serious.
"...You're probably here on some kinda business, right? Some important business?"
In response, Geno nodded his head. "Yeah. I... I need to talk to Bowser about what he did. I'm not sure if you've heard about it, but Bowser stole the Star Rod from my home, Star Haven. Even though Mario and Peach defeated him and returned the rod, I... I was away when it happened. It's my fault. I should have stopped him myself. I..."
Geno trailed off, and a soft, fluffy hand wrapped around his own. "It's ok, Geno. It's alright," Mallow said gently, trying to comfort him. "I did hear about it, but I don't think it's your fault. I mean, how could you know? I think it's really mean of Bowser to do something like this, but it all turned out ok. It's not your fault."
"Please don't blame yourself..." ♥☮♠☀, Mamar's, words echoed in the back of his mind, and Geno simply sighed. If he could convince himself to believe that, perhaps he wouldn't have gone on an unauthorized trip to the surface world, worrying his most precious people instead of enjoying the reunion. Alas... here he was.
Seeing the expression on Geno's face, Mallow swallowed. "You know... I've been doing a lot of prince stuff. It's been hard, but kinda fun! In fact, the other day..." Slowly, Mallow led Geno to sit beside him on his fluffy bed. A momentary reluctance filled Geno as he thought of his mission, but it was just as quickly quashed by warm feelings of familiarity. Certainly, he was here to demand answers from Bowser, but seeing as he'd already made himself known, it wouldn't hurt to spend some time with Mallow. As they got settled, the star found himself listening eagerly to Mallow's tales, his anger and pain momentarily forgotten as he let himself listen to everything that had happened since his departure, indulging in the familiar sound of Mallow's joyful voice.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After a while, as the moon meandered ever-closer to the horizon, Mallow finally ran out of stories and Geno finally ran out of distractions to keep his negative thoughts and feelings at bay. "Mallow... I need to set out now."
"Mmmm... alright."
The two got up from the bed, Mallow looking at Geno uncertainly. "Geno... do you really have to go? I mean, I'm really glad you're here, but... wouldn't it be nicer to say hi to everyone instead of going to yell at Bowser?"
"Mallow... I wish I could. I wish it were that easy," Geno answered solemnly, meeting Mallow's gaze with his own. "But if I don't do this... I think it'll haunt me. You and others have told me that it's not my fault, but... I need to see him and ask him about it. I need to face him head-on."
The cloud prince sniffled, but nodded. "Okay. I understand. Just... be careful, ok? And... I really hope you don't need to fight. Bowser's a meanie, but..."
He trailed off, but his feelings came across perfectly clear. Geno smiled, placing a wooden hand atop Mallow's fluffy head.
"Don't worry, Mallow. I'll be just fine, and I promise that unless I really have to, I won't fight him."
"...You promise?"
"I promise."
