#Repost @moveu_official ・・・ 💥Disc Bulge/Herniation💥 . . What does your disc do anyhow? It’s like a shock absorber for your spine and vertebrae. A disc has multiple layers. The outer layer is called the annulus fibrosus and is thicker and sturdier. The inner layer is called the nucleus pulposus and is like the jelly filling of a donut. Their purpose is to make a nice safe little tunnel for the uber important spinal cord and nerves. . . A disc bulge is when the disc does exactly that- it bulges out from between the vertebrae and may or may not compress a nerve. A herniation is when the outer layer actually tears open and the inner layer spills our of the disc. The majority of disc herniation occur in the lower back. . . The nerves can be seen in the photo as the little yellow appendages that come out and down. They exit the spine and branch out to various parts of the body. The nerve pain that can often be associated with disc herniations or bulges is caused by the disc or disc contents pressing onto the nerve. This can be felt as a radiating pain to areas of the body. . . As a normal part of the aging process discs will lose some of their pliability and suppleness. They can become a bit flatter and harder. This is also known as “disc degeneration” and is often without symptoms. That whole phenomenon of people getting shorter as they age… yep, you can thank your discs for that. . . 💻Written by Katie Goss @MoveUKatie 🎨 by @AshleyKayArt . . #MoveU #FixYoShit #SpinalDisc #DiscHerniation #Disc #DiscBulge #VertebralDisc #Herniation #BackPain #Anatomy #Physiology #Back #Spine #Nerves #Chiropractor #Massage #PhysicalTherapy #Rehab #Injury #BackInjury / on Instagram https://ift.tt/2Q3OTbx
