I think you’ve lost the plot a little bit if you go on a whole thing about how Taylor Swift is more problematic than Lord Byron because rich people were not less likely to die of disease than poor people back then so really Lord Byron was just a regular guy. A: he was literally a baron and he treated women like shit in an era where the rich had even more systemic power over the poor and men had more systemic power over women. B: there are good reasons to criticize Taylor Swift but “unlikely to die of a fever due to modern medicine available to most people in the developed world” is a weird one. C: I know some people want her to be more active in politics but I don’t think that should involve commanding a unit in the Greek War of Independence (or any other conflict) despite lacking military experience. D: what???

Yes isn't it wild? Another way that Taylor turned something that could have been horrible or a life ruiner into something magical and productive.
It's very "It seems that my fellow female artists have taken this challenge and they have accepted it. It seems like the pressure that could have crushed us made us into diamonds instead. And what didn't kill us actually did make us stronger" and "just keep making art".

It wasn’t until we came to record our first album, Showbiz, that I got back into piano. We were working on a song called “Sunburn,” which is kind of a strummy guitar song. It sounded a bit weak, and since it was one of my favorite songs, I wanted to make it sound good. So that was when John Leckie, our producer, had this idea to work out the guitar part on the piano.
That was the first time I played piano in years it seems, and I had to spend two or three days just practicing “Sunburn,” which is a pretty simple part. When we recorded it, it sounded a bit like a Philip Glass film soundtrack. I think at that point I decided I’d get back into piano again.
From that point on, I went in the opposite direction and started intensively working on piano and the guitar became more just for the live thing. I’d say 70 to 80 percent of the songs I’ve written since then have been written on piano. Even though live, I play some of them on guitar. Even a song like “Stockholm Syndrome” was written on piano.
I find it easy to find interesting chords on the piano. Especially because on a lot of stuff we do, the guitar and bass are harmonising; I’m not just playing power chords and Chris [Wolstenholme, bassist] isn’t just playing root notes.

Refusing musical labels: a masterclass by Scorpio singer/songwriters
Tumblr media
I think pure country music includes rock and roll, I don’t think you have to call it “country rock” any more than you have to call something “folk rock”.. I've just never been able to get into the further label of “country-rock”.. how can you define something like that? - I just say this: It's music. Either it's good or it's bad; either you like it or you don't.
Tumblr media
I was only a folk singer for about two years…. By that time, it wasn’t really folk music anymore. It was some new American phenomenon. Later, they called it singer/songwriters. Or art songs, which I liked best. Some people get nervous about that word. Art. They think it’s a pretentious word from the giddyap. To me, the word art has never lost its vitality.
Tumblr media
My music isn’t anything but me. It has jazz in it and rock’n’roll, and it has an urgency to it.
All that stuff about heavy metal and hard rock, I don't subscribe to any of that. It's all just music. I mean, the heavy metal from the '70s sounds nothing like the stuff from the '80s, and that sounds nothing like the stuff from the '90s. Who's to say what is and isn't a certain type of music?
Tumblr media
I never was a country singer. I’m still not a “country” singer. I just write songs and play them. I’m Guy Clark.
