Worf the Spy
Shortly after realizing the position of ambassador and envoy to the Klingon Empire was going to require a tad more subtlety than even he was anticipating; Worf, son of Mogh, Bane of the House of Duras and Slayer of Gowron sent a back channels message to his ex-wife, who passed it along to her husband, who passed it along to his boyfriend, and in short order found himself on Cardassia across a cafe table from Elim Garak.
Garak's anti-surveillance devices are excellent, and Worf refuses to talk about it, so no one knows exactly what was said that caused both to end up in the medical clinic twenty minutes later with six broken bones, three phaser burns and two kinds of poison ingested between them. Garak says they were "practicing."
From their clinic beds, they agree to meet next month, settling on chamomile tea as a reasonable compromise and agreeing to leave their phasers behind.
The next month, its is eleven broken bones, three poisons, two phaser burns and a knife wound. From their clinic beds, Garak gives Worf pointers on concealing weapons from hand-held sensors for next time. Worf grumbles the Garak stabs 'like a Hom Ha'DIbaH.'
Thirty years later, they still meet every month; discussing opera, theater and their mutual loathing of the Third Taylor Swift Renaissance more than spy-craft these days. They have long since moved on from concealed phasers to subspace micro-explosives, sometimes planted up to a month in advance (Garak was very impressed). They've finished their chamomile tea exactly twice.
Worf is basically immune to poisons, and can lie like a Tal Shiar. Garak has several genial contacts in the Klingon Empire (which he has leveraged into a prosperous post-occupation Cardassia), and is a member of House Martok whether he likes it or not.
They are best friends.
Julian still has the scars from the time he pointed that out.

Star Trek: Picard, season 3, episode 3, "Seventeen Seconds" thoughts (spoilers):
The Good:
My big concern about this episode was how they could possibly explain away Crusher's behaviour, and I think that it is very much on the strength of Gates McFadden and Patrick Stewart's acting that I actually ended up believing it. The idea that they'd already attempted a romance 5 times offscreen was something of a retcon, but honestly, they served together for 9 years after "All Good Things" and we only checked in on them for a few hours each time in movies spaced 2 to 4 years apart, so I entirely buy that this is something that could have happened (and it seems natural that Picard would attempt it after "All Good Things" as well)
The acting in general, really. Not just Patrick Stewart and Gates McFadden, but everyone
"I am Worf, son of Mogh, house of Martok, son of Sergei, house of Rozhenko, bane of the Duras, slayer of Gowron" ❤️
Just the banter between Worf and Raffi in general
Sidney La Forge's little aside with Seven of Nine. I loved that. And that she called her "Commander Seven." She knows what's up.
Paying off the whole plot point with Thaddeus Riker in the first season. The entire first scene is completely heartbreaking when you remember "Nepenthe", and Jonathan Frakes just plays the long-grieving father perfectly in his interactions with Ed Speleers's Jack Crusher
Also paying off the plot point with Picard's father from the second season
HOLY SHIT, CHANGELINGS! I mean, I kind of guessed that it was them based on some of the promotional material, but it was still a nice twist. Not sure I love how gross their goo looks this time around, but eh. Better special effects.
The Bad:
I really don't buy the conflict between Picard and Riker. At all.
It just seems so completely out of character for both of them. Like I can buy that they might have some raw emotions, but this just is not how either of them have ever been shown to behave. They don't start shouting at each other on the bridge of the starship and Picard would not openly disregard Riker's judgement if he were placed in command. The only times that they've even behaved remotely like that were when Sarek was infecting them with rage or when they were in the alternate timeline in "Yesterday's Enterprise".
"You've just murdered us all!" Are you five? He proposed a tactic, you accepted his proposal and it backfired. This is how adults talk to one another?
Why is Picard so keen on attacking Vadic? This too feels out if character for him.
Actually, everyone's acting kind of assholeish for no good reason. The random officer telling Jack that this is his fault; the Titan CMO refusing Dr. Crusher's help in a triage situation; Jack assaulting the guard outside of Seven's quarters. I get that Terry Matalas doesn't like Roddenberry's "no conflict" rule, but that's not a license to just write all of his characters like a bunch of reprobates
Speaking of reprobates, as much fun as the Worf-Raffi "good cop/ bad cop" interrogation dynamic was, why are they using these stupid, ineffective, Starsky & Hutch-esque, abuse-of-due-process techniques?
And then Worf murders the changeling, which is great, because it's not like he was your only lead.
I feel like Matalas is writing based on the logic of a 1980s action movie, rather than actually trying to imagine how things might work in a post-scarcity utopia. Like I don't think that the act of killing someone is something that he's giving sufficient moral weight.
"My father and I have one thing in common: we don't have an easy time making friends" - Really? That's how you would characterise Geordi La Forge? Geordi "I did not know what it meant to have a friend until I met Geordi" La Forge? Geordi "Geordi must not be assimilated" La Forge? Geordi "I will be your eyes" La Forge?? This is how you'd characterise him? As someone who has difficulty making friends??
Vadic barely has any lines. At first I liked how minimalistic she was in giving orders, but Amanda Plummer's acting was my favourite thing in the previous episode.
Random Thoughts:
Do the lights on La Sirena's engines have special sensors that change colour depending on who's standing in front of them?
I think Dr. Crusher must know more than she's letting on, because it's not clear why she would lock Jack away during the opening sequence of Episode 1 and shoot the masked men execution style, just based on the information she's provided. Then again, everyone's behaving like such a murderous asshole that maybe that's just baseline for how a doctor acts now
The nebula is apparently alive and conscious, which makes me think (hope?) that maybe it's affecting their judgement on some telepathic way. You know, regressing them to violent action movie stereotypes, sort of thing.

So I just finished watching all the way through DS9 a few weeks ago and I decided to follow S3 of Picard as new episodes drop and can I just say…
…Holy Shit, I felt GIDDY at that reveal. There is so much they could do with this - I really hope we get to see some old DS9 cast members, even if it’s just a cameo.
Also, I know the show is called “Picard”, but goddamn is Worf stealing the show. “I am Worf, son of Mogh, house of Martok, son of Sergei, house of Rozhenko, bane to the Duras family, slayer of Gowron” - damn, dude, THAT’S a way to introduce yourself…
…especially since he followed it up with “…I have made some chamomile tea. Do you take sugar?”

in other news, I wasn't worried for Worf, not even for a second.
Mr. Matalas just made the top of my blacklist forever and ever (I'm kidding, of course, but also I'll never forgive him. Why would you blow up Ro when Captain Shaw is right there! 👿😭😭😭 ok, ok, I know why but damn it all 🤬😭😭😭😭), but no way in the galaxy he was ever going to kill off Worf in a knife fight with Raffi just to acquiesce some nobody gangster (played, if I'm not mistaken, by Kirk Acevedo, who played Agent Asshole Calderon in AoS S2). Besides, Klingons have redundant organs. Take that, logic boy.
I'm however quite worried about the repeated mentions of the sacrifices he has made, especially given how Picard, in the meantime, has found a son who atm doesn't feel like he's heading toward anything nice and just lost a mentee who I'm fairly sure saw him as a father figure.
I fear the chances that Alexander might at some point commiserate with Jack about absentee fathers have just gone down considerably.
It pleases me that Worf knew his handler was Ro, this means he also got past Ro's defection (and if there's one character who should understand how honor is not defined by duty and obedience to superiors, that would be Worf, Slayer of Gowron, don't you think?)
Anyway, I'm heartbroken, but I can't wait to watch the rest of the season. I've even warmed up to Captain Shaw (I still wish he had been on that shuttle, but realistically I would trade almost anyone's death for Ro's life) because he was heading to a routine exploratory mission, then Picard and Riker invited themselves on his ship and it's been hell ever since. Like, I feel him, I do.

Picard episode 3!
Worf. This episode is Peak Worf. “I am Worf, Son of Mogh, slayer of Gowron, legendary bad@$$, blah blah blah. I have made chamomile tea. Do you take sugar?” 😂😂😂 “Did you wear that to a Tuesday beheading?” “Beheadings are on Wednesdays.” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
For real though, I love Worf’s care and concern for Raffi. And that while he is “working on [him]self.” (another 😂🤣 line) he is still very much himself. He’s still Worf, even if he’s a more refined version.
The call with Deanna at the beginning about how “[Will’s] son just vomited all over engineering! Four feet in the air! They should study him for science! BRING THE WHISKEY.” That was just so 😂😂 so relatable. So relatable.
We still need to find out what happened that Deanna wants a break from Will.
The conversation with Beverly and Picard was…strange? Great? Terrible? All at once? I’m still trying to figure out how I feel on that one.
Picard and Riker sliding right into command again. ❤️ Riker throwing Picard off the bridge. 💔 That was like watching Mom and Dad fight. Ugh.
I’ve decided Shaw reminds me of Captain Del Rio from Halo 4. Except Shaw is capital-B Bad and Del Rio was just…bad. I still think Shaw is in on whatever is hunting Beverly and Jack, especially after the “how do they keep finding us” line to Jack in sickbay. Mr disagrees with me on this but my literary/dramatic device radar is usually better than his. And if he ends up being right I’ll never hear the end of it.
Sidney is VERY much Geordi’s daughter. I know she says they aren’t alike, but they are.
For all the talk of how much Jack is obviously Picard’s son, the line in sickbay where he says “You’ve lost a lot of blood, but good news: we’ve got plenty” is SO Beverly.
Credit to Mr for this one: The last scene where Titan is going down looks and sounds not unlike from 1:45 on in this BSG episode:

Worf – son of Mogh, of the Klingon House of Martok, of the Human family Rozhenko; mate to K'Ehleyr, father to Alexander Rozhenko, and husband to Jadzia Dax; Starfleet officer and soldier of the Empire; bane of the House of Duras; slayer of Gowron; Federation ambassador to Qo'noS – was one of the most influential Klingons of the latter half of the 24th century.
yeah with that amount of titles and bynames I'd certainly hope he was
