- Chapter 122: They meet and Creed captures Homura (by Justice's order) with his Ether Lock, shrinking her into a palm-sized cage. - Chapter 124: Creed thinks that Homura is pretty. - Chapter 126: Because of Xenolith's attack: "Gravity Center" Creed dropped Homura's cage. To avoid Victory stepping on her, Creed unlocks her cage, releasing her and restoring her to normal size. As Homura leaves the scene, Creed is seen blushing while looking at her. - Chapter 130: Creed is seen looking at pictures of Homura while blushing.

NERO 66 ARC (139-169):

- Chapter 151: They run into each other. Homura remembers him. though she (accidentally) calls him "forgettable man in glasses" and (embarrassed) he tells her that his name is Creed.

- Chapter 152: As they have the same goal (stop Shura from using the all-link) Creed proposes they work together. Homura says she doesn't trust him and Creed assures her he would never lie to someone as beautiful as her.

- Chapter 154: An embarrassed Homura asks Creed to stop following her, to which he responds that there's nothing he can do since they're going in the same direction.

- Chapter 159: Creed reveals his real name, Seiji, to Homura and that he comes from the same planet as her, Oedo. She's surprised to know that he belongs to the shogunate family of Oedo.

- Chapter 160: After discovering Creed belongs to the Shogunate family of Oedo Homura apologizes to him for the way she was been acting with him. Creed says she should treat him the same as always, as they aren't in Oedo and the cosmos are free. He says his objective is to change the old ways of their home planet, which Homura says is a wonderful idea, and smiles at him. Creed thinks Homura's smile is too beautiful for words. As they agree to work together to destroy the all-link system they are found by Jesse who points a gun at them and asks Creed to get away from Homura. As Creed prepares to use his ether on Jesse, Jesse fires at him, shooting him in the chest. As he's falling, Creed confesses his feelings to Homura and dies.

- Chapter 161: Homura closes Creed's eyes. When asked who Creed is, she replies he is "a friend from home". While crying, she says everyone that gets close to her goes away (ie dies).

- Chapter 168: Jesse says to Justice that Homura was the one who killed Creed. That she seduced and then killed him. Meanwhile, Homura hopes that Creed (his body) made it back to his ship/crew.

X495 ARC (170-180):

- Chapter 171: with a sad expression, Homura remembers Creed.

LENDARD ARC (181-220):

- Chapter 211: Homura offers Justice assistance in the battle against Acnoela. He remembers that Jesse said that Homura was the one who killed Creed.

- Chapter 216: Justice admits that it doesn't make sense that Homura killed Creed.

EDENS ZERO REUNION ARC (221-247):

- Chapter 232: On Universe 0, Homura and Creed met during a sword match when they were kids. Homura injured him in the presence of the Shogun, Creed's father, thus Homura was to be beheaded. Despite his injury, Creed stood in defense of Homura, asking his father to show mercy. In the end, Valkyrie, Homura's master, was beheaded in Homura's place.

- Chapter 234: On Universe 0 Homura meets Valkyrie, she is surprised to see that Valkyrie is alive since she was beheaded. Valkyrie says that Creed/Seiji was the one who repaired her.

Unpopular Opinion: I enjoyed Kaede more than Aoi.

SPOILERS UP TO CHAPTER 217.

.

I'm not gonna try to be objective about this so this'll be more of a rant I needed to express.

It's true that Kaede felt rushed despite Lendard having more chapters than the other arcs, primarily because both Crow (who was, in fact, Cure) and Acnoella (who was apparently Elsie's mum) showed up and were offed.

But some people have mentioned that the good stuff in this arc have outweighed the bad (which, to be honest, are just pacing issues) and that's exactly my opinion as well.

The reason why I think the good outweighs the bad is pretty subjective. I think finding out who Ziggy is is one of the most important things this story has to offer. The adventure to Mother as well.

I felt like there was just too much going on in the Aoi Cosmos saga that the crew unnecessarily put themselves through, after Foresta. As cool and interesting Shura and Nero were as villains, their story almost felt like a huge detraction from the adventure space vibes the Sakura Cosmos presented. I will agree that Shura also having gravity Ether Gear and the presence of some parallelisms made during the battles between Shiki and Shura and Ziggy and Nero contributed to foreshadowing who Ziggy truly was, but those didn't stop me from ultimately feeling like Aoi overstayed its welcome.

Kaede Cosmos seems to have suffered the opposite problems - trying to get rid of too many powerful villains who were set up to be the biggest threats in a short span of time.

But the good is that we finally find out who Ziggy is, we understand that reaching Mother is ultimately linked to saving humanity, we learn even more about the origins of the Edens Zero, and we get the best freaking panel in the entire series:

(LOL, well, it may not be the best panel objectively and I'm probably the only one who would ever claim so, but for me, it just carries a certain weight that lingers. It could be the angst.)

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that the reason why I enjoyed the Kaede Cosmos saga more than Aoi is because it once again emphasises why this story is called Edens Zero. Not Shiki and Friends. But Edens Zero. To somewhat add to my point, notice how the Sakura Cosmos was involved and was visited by the crew during the Kaede Cosmos saga. Whatever started in the Sakura Cosmos has some relevance to what is happening in the Kaede Cosmos. Aoi Cosmos has little to no relevance now.

Contrary to what a lot feel, I also think that the Edens One being the final villain is perfect, or at least, on brand for this manga, true to its themes of machines having hearts (that means evil hearts, too). I would very much prefer seeing a widescale space battle against machines and AIs who are wreaking havoc against humanity, posing actual threats to our crew, than a belatedly introduced human villain who might again disappoint if they fail to live up to the hype. Even if that human villain happens to be evil!Rebecca.

2023: The Year of Universe Zero

Last year was been quite a year, huh? It was a crazy and eventful year. I haven’t done too much outside of Quick Notes on this website. So I’ve had a lot of time to think through doing this.

This post will be different than the past years. Normally, I would talk about the seven best things to happen in the year for EZ fans. (I’d also have done it in 2023.) But outside of the anime, anything else I could mention involves the same thing: the shift into Universe Zero.

This was the second biggest thing on last year’s list, but barely. The only reason I didn’t have it as number one was because its overall impact on the series had yet to be made clear. It’s hard to think of anything in the manga this hasn’t affected last year.

So as the year has ended and Mashima seems dead set to end the series, it’s about time to ask an important question: is Universe Zero a good thing or a bad thing?

Let’s get the obvious out of the way. Many of the more tragic after-effects from before have been undone. Every character who died in the last universe has come back alive. All kinds of other tragic events have either been undone or lessened.

I know the way both sides feel. The negative side is that any tension from before is dissipated. The comeback for that is that having everyone come back gives the EZ crew more to protect. I lean towards the latter, especially considering I made a similar case when we learned the nature of Cat Leaper.

Though, you might remember that I made a bit of a bold prediction in that post. I said that Mashima could use the concept of what we’ve come to know as changing universes to bring about particularly drastic results for example all the past villains get together and form a super evil coalition against the EZ crew.

What happened in 2023?

The Oracion Seis Galactica came back. Deadend Crow and God Acnoella are joined by an evil AI made by Professor Weisz and Dr. Muller. No matter who the other two members were, this was an amazing setup for the group. Outside of the group, Drakken Joe and Poseidon Nero team up against the EZ crew, with Sister, Kris, and Kleene. Poseidon Shura brings the Ocean Six back into the fray. And behind all of this, the EDENS ONE, Void, and the Dark Starts are racing towards Mother, who is on the verge of dying.

So, the stakes are the highest possible, right?

Well, only kind of?

Not to disrespect anything I mentioned before, but it’s not like I figured it would be. Ignore the EZ Crew in what I’m about to say. Weirdly, this universe is a kinder version than before. (Such a Mashima fan complaint.) Mashima is amazing at dramatic situations, more than he’s often given credit for. Though, as you might tell from my jokes about his “school of despair”, things end up a bit too happy. It feels like this universe was a way to reset crazy things on a large scale.

Drakken Joe, the villain responsible for stealing the life spans of people around the planet, including Weisz’s mother? Now he uses animal life to keep himself going.

The battle between Oasis and the Aoi Empire, which is one of the most pivotal series of events in the past two universes? They realize they have a common enemy and fight him quickly.

Dr. Muller, arguably the most evil villain in the series, and easily my favorite villain? Weren’t you paying attention? He’s that common enemy. The Rutherfords don’t even get a shot at him despite teasing the idea.

And then there’s the EZ crew.

Probably my biggest complaint about this situation is one that I have with a lot of Mashima’s writing. We don’t get to see stuff we should. We should see how and when everyone came to realize that they’re in the new universe. I think the best chapter in this arc, and possibly the series, was the last chapter from last year. We had a repeat of the last chapter with a couple of twists. It ends with them realizing what happened.

It was cool to see how the EZ crew members came to remember things. My favorite one was Homura. Unlike most of the members, her recollection didn’t come from seeing the other members of the EZ crew or being on the EZ. It wasn’t until she was reunited with Valkyrie that the memories came flooding back. (More on this to come.) But we should have seen this for all the members. What made Laguna Hermit and the Rutherfords remember their place on the EZ crew?

And I can’t stand the training and handling of new powers in old bodies. I hate that things played out how they did. They just catch onto things they know despite their bodies having to adjust. Making Over Drive work is one thing. Cat Leaper coming back was a slap in the face. I would have been fine if the effects stayed, but they didn’t. The training should have been a mini-arc. But, again, Mashima is dead set on ending this series soon.

I must admit that I enjoy the positive gains the EZ crew has experienced. Homura was able to reconcile with her mother more realistically. (Loathe as I am to admit, no one is as cruel as the original Kurenai in real life.) Weisz gets to be with his mother again. Even Happy is a real cat and not a cyborg – a point that causes issues during fights.

And, speaking of positive changes for the EZ crew, we haven’t even gotten to the biggest one of all: all four of the Shining Stars have been reunited. It only took around four years from when the idea was teased on Sun Jewel, but Witch, Sister, Hermit, and Valkyrie Yuna are all on the same ship again. On one level, it feels cheap that they’re back. But, to be honest, it makes perfect sense. The whole universe was reset to the time before Witch Regret’s sacrifice. And with a Kurenie who’s helping the resistance, this wouldn’t lead to the incident that did Valkyrie in.

The most fun thing about the Shining Stars all being back is the allusions to the distant future. These were teased during the Aoi Cosmos war, but we’re getting a better look at what led to the Shining and Dark Stars to exist. I won’t pretend I understand much of it. However, the lore behind this whole thing could blow a hole through much of our current understanding of the series, depending on how Mashima takes it.

Speaking of Mashima, I’ve hinted at this multiple times, but I need to talk about this. Mashima has said that he wished for this universe to be much happier. It seems that he isn’t too comfortable with the dark aspects of this and any series he writes. It’s a shame because it’s one of the best things he does.

In Conclusion:

Seeing things play out in Universe Zero is as much of a grab bag as so much of Mashima’s writing. A lot of good has happened and a lot of bad. As always, let’s just stick along for the ride and see how things play out.

Another fun Eden’s Zero episode!

So glad to see Kleene not just alive and well, but back to her old self. Her brother is really just a massive siscon and wants her to be happy. I’ve been cheering for her happiness for a while now. Seeing her suffer with that emotion stifling gear was rough. Looking forward to them being full crew members!

I wonder what Poseidon Nero’s dice told him. Maybe Shura has to die for peace to be restored? There’s no way he thought that with the way Shura acts he’ll win, so this should be interesting to see. Dude was willing to kill one of his father’s longtime servants just because he was a robot.

Kind of cool that we’ll see Shura and Shiki go up against one another to see who is the true successor of Ziggy’s gravity magic. Having two former apprentices square off will be fun.

So VR training in this universe acts like the hyperbolic time chamber basically, that’s cool. Poor Weisz just wanted a bit of fan service and gets tied up lol.

I saw the new Knights of the Zodiac movie last weekend!

I have thoughts that might have spoilers sorry.

Diego Tinoco as Ikki (Nero 😒) killed the role! Everyone else was kind of so-so but I enjoyed Caitlin Hutson as Marin and Mark Dacascos as Mylock! My brother and I both agree that Marin training Seiya in the movie was one of the best parts! The breaking the rock scenes were great!

Of course they really messed with the story, but it was to be expected for a short movie adaptation of the much longer story of the original. I wish I could have seen more of the Saints too, at least Hyoga, Shun, and Shiryu! The part with Aiolos, baby Athena, and Shura at the beginning made me really yearn for at least us getting to meet one Gold Saint!

I was discussing with someone and I feel the same way I felt about the much better 2014 movie. These movies don't really feel like Saint Seiya for some reason, this one felt like a Marvel movie (without the Marvel budget hehe). But there were some enjoyable parts! The costume design was very so-so, but that was to be expected as well, so I can't really be mad. I think the fantastical element of the Cloths and Armor in Saint Seiya lends itself really well to animation, but seems very difficult to bring to life. (But if cosplayers can do it, Hollywood can too!)

I can forgive most of these things because I really like the series, but the one thing that really got under my skin was Athena/Saori (Sienna 😒). I really disliked the character in this movie. All I have to say is "Not my Athena" lol. But Madison Iseman was very pretty and I'm sure she did the best with what she was working with! (I could almost kind of see her as a better Shaina though).

Long story short. I don't think it was a complete waste of time, but I don't think I will see it again. I would love to see the next one though!

Dissecting: Edens Zero Ch. 130-134

Kleene/Jinn

I was reading Ch. 83 and found this.

See, I don’t know if Mashima plans his story out or if he develops certain plots on the spot because everything is connecting. “Oh, I could use this later...” Brilliant. Amazing. For real though, I was like damn it’s the Mildian/Sun Jewel arc again (Xiaomei’s battles foreshadowing).

Shura vs Ziggy

It was interesting to read that Shura isn't the biological son of Nero. This leads me to think...what if Shura and Shiki are related? I mean they both have gravity ether and they both were taught by Ziggy. They both are also strong in their own right. We also have the theme from Fairy Tail of Good vs Evil (Zeref and Natsu) but in this instance it would be Shura and Shiki. We also don't know where they came from - their origins. Plus, Nero says that his power was incompatible with Shura but he was able to match with Ziggy's gravity powers.

Later, when the crew of Edens Zero find another relic (Robo Cola cap), they infer that Mother could be a place and a person. I was also thinking that because in FT: 100 years quest, Aldoron was a dragon god but his body was home to 5 cities.

So, if I'm right then, Shiki and Shura maybe are from a city on Mother...and maybe even Rebecca.

I'm noting that Shiki is younger than Shura. When Ziggy was training Shura, that was 15 years ago but, that's also the same time Ziggy found Shiki as a baby....unless Ziggy is lying and he has false memories. 👀👀👀 Is Ziggy truly good or bad? Does Shiki have additional powers like Rebecca?

What is the all-link system? Looks like Shura and Ziggy have the same idea. I think if Shura and Ziggy battle - Ziggy will win. What did you guys think?

Xenolith and the Crew of Edens Zero

I wonder why Xenolith's maintenance is lasting longer. Perhaps it may be revealed in the future. I would laugh if he moved his consciousness/personality data into a younger robot body.

Weisz stays being a perv lol with the bondage training.

Did Xenolith teach Shiki 'Black Sky?' For me, I feel like in the next arc, when Shiki is facing a really tough opponent we will get flashbacks of his training with Xenolith and him learning Black Sky. Then, he'll perform it against the enemy...which could be Ziggy. So, yes, I think Xenolith did teach him. Could be wrong but we'll have to wait and see!

Both Xenolith and Xiaomei have stated that Rebecca's power will change/save the world/universe.

- Xiaomei (Ch. 64): "She has only just begun to unlock the secrets of Leap’s real power. This power may truly save the universe one day."

- Xenolith (Ch. 132): "Her power is weak…but it is the most special. Special enough to change the world."

Witch calling Rebecca a 'Chrono Witch' is giving me Scarlet Witch vibes...

Stronger heart = Stronger gravity Strength + Tranquility = Strong Heart = Rise from darkness Strength - Tranquility = Weak Heart Weak heart = Weak gravity = Fall to darkness

Fan service with the bath scenes but, at least it is keeping the story going, in that, she has to train in the bath in order to get stronger. Sister makes me geek, "You better get out of those ropes before this turns x-rated." When I read that scene, it gave me Virgo vibes from FT.

I also want to see how Xenolith met Ziggy. So, I'm wishing for a flashback.

I don't know if I put this on a post before or not but, my thoughts are that Ziggy did reach Mother and found Shiki there. He erased the Four Shining Stars memories because something bad would happen if he didn't (like they would get infected the way he is now). So, he did it to save them.

UGHHHH BUT THAT CLIFFHANGER...WHYYYYY - It'll probably blow my mind when it gets revealed.

Also, WOOHOOO! Jinn and Kleene joined the crew. That cute ass smile!!! OOOMG his face when he isn't able to untie Kleene. 🥺🥺🥺

The Oceans

So cool to see the winners of the Edens Zero character competition featured as the Oceans 6! I'm a fan of all of them and don't you worry...we won't forget Shura's assistant even though she's not part of the 6. However, she might be since Shura killed off Cyca. Yikes.... RIP Cyca

Their designs are so clean!! (Sorry if the images look blurry Tumblr only allows 10 photos per post so I tried stitching them together in Illustrator but I think the file size is too big for Tumblr so that's why it may be blurry but, I hope you get the gist of their designs.)

Holy

I wonder what she means by that...I feel like this will be important later. We also don't know much about the other members of the Oración Seis Interstellar. I'm excited to see what their ether gear is...especially Eraser. 👀👀👀 Does his ether have something to do with erasing things? Are they corrupt or good guys? I guess we'll found out soon...

B-Cube

Rebecca has carved 'Edens Zero' onto her B-Cube. Did you guys notice in Ch. 134 that Rebecca's ingrained B-Cube is the same one we see in Ch. 4? That's the scene where there are two robots 20,000 years in the future who find two bodies (a man and a woman) and a B-Cube which we can now confirm is Rebecca's.

The Ships + Other Notable Mentions

LOL I feel like if I was a B-Cuber, I would be an entertainment/fashion channel....basically like Sorcerer Weekly but make it Space Weekly or a cool name like Into the Void. Maybe a play off of 'Cosmopolitan' but shorten it to 'Cosmos.' So many options.

Anyways lets get into the ships. I talked about this first ship in a recent post.

#1 Homura and Creed

I'll say it again...I SHIP IT! I am hoping for some more scenes with them together. He always looks so cute when he blushes <3 He's a Homura stan too hahah. 🥺🥺🥺

Predictions: - Creed and Homura will fight - Creed will protect Homura again - Homura will save Creed - Creed will join the Edens Zero crew

Now, I was reading on a few discord channels that people are comparing Creed to Mest (Fairy Tail). Now, I am really trying to understand this comparison because frankly, I don't see it. Creed has a crush on Homura. That's valid. Also, Creed doesn't just have pictures of just Homura, he has Weisz, Rebecca, and Shiki. He's not creepy like Mest.

Mest was a weird guy when we first met him laying in the pool or eating flowers. Their personalities are totally different IMO. We could talk ages about the age gap stuff but I'm not really gonna go into that.

Do you see the comparison?

#2 Rebecca and Shiki

Shiki escaping from his restraints to save 'Rebecca' made me happy lol. It makes me think what he would do if it was Homura or Weisz in that situation. What would Shiki do? Plus, after the simulation was over...we can see Rebecca in awe and blushing.

Then, Shiki is hugging Rebecca and they're both blushing 💕 That's a cute moment ngl.

"I'm not THAT into Shiki." - So, you don't deny that you like him 😉

#3 Hermit

I don't know if I mentioned this but I fucking love Hermit's name. It's such a cool name.

#4 Justice

Ch. 130 he was looking gooooood with his bandages. 🥵🥵🥵

Did you notice the homage to Fairy Tail in Ch. 134? "Why are your ideas so Fairy Tale?"

Self-challenge: draw all the stickfigures you know of and draw them all on A5 paper and color them. I did this mainly for fun but also to improve on facial expressions and group pictures as well as using color pencils (which I’m still pretty bad at) (Jomm was a challenge to color, same with Nhazul’s scarf)
