as the cheers fade into the distance.

As glittering lights adorned with flowers sway,

knives are thrown in a full house.

Embracing both light and shadow,

LAST SONG: Well, right now it's playing The Sight of Spira as i remembered that i love the music from FF X, as well as Besaid Island. It's been years, really. Besides that... i sank some time into MH, so i listened to Astera, Kamura and some Elder Dragons. (BEWARE OF SPOILERS HERE!!)

CURRENTLY READING: Uh... nothing. I should start to read something again though. Maybe i could just read the Diskworld novels once again...?

CURRENTLY WATCHING: Does Anime count? In that case "Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?", where a school girl got reincarnated as... as spider. And tries to survive. She cute though! And while waiting for the next season, i'm also watching "Tensura Nikki: Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken". I like the little yet powerful slime and how they live with all the other monsters, build the town, etc. It's lovely.

CURRENTLY CRAVING: Uhm... i don't crave things much often, tbh. But... right now, i would love to give some of my friends some hugs again, especially someone... oh, and meet people for some table top games again. It's been so long i played my games with others... T_T I miss Catan, my home... T_T

Y’all might not know this, but I am deep into this world/lore that Fujikawa-san and Futaba Hazuki-san have created (looking at you, Marker Light-Blue 👀) So, when they announced Gem Fragments, I just was hooked instantly...!!

So, this time we have Emeraude (Emerald) for a main character, huh~ I’m so excited already!!

[WORLD INTRODUCTION]

Long ago, when the world was attacked by an unknown invader, people revered all the young men who possessed Psy abilities—a special power that was used to protect themselves and the world.

However, time passed and the world is now at peace. Somewhere along the way, the people began to fear and abhor those who were blessed with Psy abilities—even going as far as treating them like heretics.

The young men who were blessed with such abilities are driven back deep into the forest once more. To avoid the public eye, they live quietly in a school called the Nouvelle Lumière Institution.

One day, a certain rumor of a town festival begins to circulate around the school. The boys open the highly-guarded door into the outside world.

Even Dogs Go to Other Worlds: Life in Another World with My Beloved Hound, Vol. 1

By Ryuuou and Ririnra. Released in Japan as “Isekai Teni Shitara Aiken ga Saikyou ni Narimashita – Silver Fenrir to Ore ga Isekai Kurashi wo Hajimetara” by GC Novels. Released in North America by Cross Infinite World. Translated by Mittt Liu.

When I got to the afterword of this first volume and the author revealed that the original idea for the book did not have the dog, I wanted to slap my forehead a bit, given that the dog is the only reason anyone would read this in the first place. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad. The characters are pleasant, the story is pleasant, the dog is pleasant, and it is a perfectly nice slow life book. It just… verges on boring, that’s all. And by verges I mean that we’ve pulled off the road into the Town of Boring and are booking three nights at the local motel. The second half, where you start to get a vague idea where the series may go, is slightly better. But this book suffers, as so many others do, with the curse of “slow life” books: in order to portray that accurately, you have to have nothing happen.

I’m not precisely sure if Takumi, our hero, dies from overwork or not – he just passes out and wakes up in the fantasy world. But he certainly fits the type, as we get the “I am an overworked corporate slave” intro before this happens. His only good thing in life is his pet Maltese. Now he’s in the middle of a forest, next to a monstrous Silver Fenrir… who apparently IS his Maltese, only she’s now the size of a car. Not sure where he is, he and his dog wander around till they hear a cry for help and end up killing an orc that was about to murder a young woman. Orcs! Is this a fantasy world, like all those novels talk about? Returning to civilization with the young woman, Takumi quickly finds himself out of his depth and having to get used to magic, monsters, and mayhem. Fortunately, he has a pupper. A big pupper.

I think I can sum up my feelings towards this book when Takumi and Claire (the young woman) arrive at her palatial estate, the smaller of her two estates, and meet up with her butler, who is named… Sebastian. Of course. This by now 50-year-old in-joke shows that everything in this book is going to be exactly on the nose, with surprises not on the menu. I did briefly hope that Takumi, who definitely fits the nickname “potato-kun” given to bland isekai protagonists, would be completely powerless and have to rely entirely on his dog, but no, he’s overrpowered too, in the “magical herbs” sort of way that we’ve seen in other slow life isekai series of this nature. Even the romance between him and Claire is predictable. She likes him. He likes her. They’re both shy. Will anything happen? Not in this book.

There are hints that we’ll get more plot development in the next book. And again, this book’s only fault is that it’s dull. The prose is fine, the translation reads great, it’s got dogs. But for me it’s another GC Novel to throw on my pile of GC Novels book I’ve tried and failed to enjoy.

Mangadex went down so I read alot 7/7

Lets CONTINUE reviewing a bunch of isekai and related stuff I binged because mangadex went down. The scale will be a single thumbs up to a single thumbs down in terms of how much I would consider recommending it in general. Lot more to come, brace yourself future me who is reading this.

Joou Heika no Isekai Strategy

Chapters 1-18

Its about a girl being slowly mindbroken into being evil ft spiders. Eh. Its no Overlord. THUMB IN BOTTOM CORNER.

Chapters 1-20

THUMBS UP. Mangaka really gets it. They are a super saiyan god super saiyan tier lolicon and it shows. This manga WILL turn you into a lolicon. Now about the manga, Miharu is cold blooded. Love all the dumb simple “I HEART KILL” tier shirts she wears. Characters arcs for both the MCs are on point. Story always progressing towards its big goal in good feeling ways. Art is top tier. Very funni americans. What more could you want from a loli assassin x old man cleaner manga?

Tensei Goblin dakedo Shitsumon aru?

Chapters 1-28

Somethings not connecting with this one for me. [Insert isekai startup here] but this time its a goblin who can live as old as a human instead of dying in like 3 days like a normal goblin. Magic is skill exclusive and skills get passed on when someone dies. So obviously a demon lord gives the MC a skill. No interesting skills really outside the time related one. Plot kinda lame because its city building but the goals of the story in building the city aren’t stated(beyond become demon lord) and nothing too interesting happens. Tensura and Death Attribute Magician do everything this attempts but way better. THUMBS DOWN.

Naze Boku no Sekai wo Daremo Oboeteinai no ka?

Chapters 1-30

Feels like Guilty Crown. Not Code Geass, Guilty Crown specifically. Huge and important difference. Especially with the way the main character’s powers are handled. They are sort of ethereal and the MC is incredibly weak without this god weapon. Good art for boss battles, art is usually photo-realistic backgrounds but drawn characters. Nice world building to really build the dread of saving the world. Nice mystery behind everything as well but ultimately THUMB IN UPPER CORNER. Strong feeling of dumb fun throughout.

Seirei Gensouki

Chapters 1-35

Way too long for me to not feel neither the pulse of the theme nor the pulse of the overarching plot. Everything feels like its been building up and just setting up something world altering potentially. No idea what it is at all. Like to see worlds with multiple isekaiers in them tho. And also there are satisfyingly wrapped up emotional arcs. Just didn’t connect with me personally enough. THUMB IN THE MIDDLE.

Seijo-sama? Iie, Toorisugari no Mamonotsukai desu!: Zettai Muteki no Seijo wa Mofumofu to Tabi wo Suru

Chapters 1-6

[Insert isekai startup here] but this time its an OP girl who just wants to fluff this fluffy animal because she couldn’t in her first life. Pretty wholesome. Really enjoy the stuff down with said pet and how early it’s backstory is gone into to set up for latter. THUMBS UP.

Boushoku-Hi no Ken

Chapters 1-15

Girls kinda badass. Like seein em go. Especially the main devil girl, Beelzebub. Tons of ass shots. Nice. Tons of scary evil shots. Nice. THUMB UP.

A Skeleton Who Was The Brave

Chapters 1-11

Read some of the doujins by the artist. Nice dr2 one. This manga is totally different though, being a somber story about a hero turned undead that has to go on one more adventure through the world he fought to protect. But he is a total goofball so chiaroscuro ensues. THUMBS UP.

Chapters 1-5

About a powerful and intelligent noble who wants to bum around but his sister knows how great he is and forces him to show off his power. THUMB UP. Funny enough to make me read more.

Sekai de Tadahitori no Mamono Tsukai ~Tenshoku Shitara Maou ni Machigawa Remashita~

Chapters 1-27

Very similar to Tensura. Really like how this MC is kinda forced into their situation and tries to make the best country they can BUT are constantly being manipulated politcally despite his overwhelming physical power. Fun read. THUMBS UP.

Live Dungeon!

Chapters 1-40

Just about doing raids in dungeons. Nothing more, nothing less. If you loved that 1/3rd of Log Horizon, then you might like this. THUMBS UP.

Tenseishichatta yo (Iya, Gomen)

Chapters 1-35

Worst part about it is probably its art. Everything else too mediocre to mention or really recall. THUMB IN THE MIDDLE.

Jitsu wa Ore, Saikyou deshita?

Chapters 1-33

Kinda funny and kinda dumb. MC has OP barrier magic because [insert isekai startup here] but he wants to laze around. Of course he can’t once he pretends to be the demon lord, pretends to be a vigilante, and then befriends the actual demon lord. Feels good in a slice of life ish way while also having plot. THUMBS UP.

Maou-sama no Machizukuri!: Saikyou no Dungeon wa Kindai Toshi

Chapters 1-29

Lets build this town, demon lords! Actually quite a lot of likable characters in this one. All of the MC’s entourage go through some form of character development too which is commendable. THUMBS UP. Best girl has to be Demon Lord of Wind, Stolas.

Senken no Majutsushi to Yobareta Kenshi

Chapters 1-24

THUMB IN UPPER CORNER. Feels like a reincarnation manga because the world is setback in development and MC is OP in comparison. Also twins are discriminated against in this world because twin demons hurt the goddess in a fight long ago. MC hates the goddess in the vastly religious world. Pretty unique for what it is. Also MC fights with swordmancy which is pretty based.

Shitsugyou Kenja no Nariagari: Kirawareta Sainou wa Sekai Saikyou deshita

Chapters 1-43

Starts off with the [hyper compotent person kicked out of complete idiot hero party] setup, but this aint really about that. It is REALLY about an OP shota learning how to work for a --cute demon lord-- company that isn’t awful like all the human ones. What can I say? Necromancer shota x bastet, the demon lord of lust? THUMBS UP.
