Just started reading Duke, Please Repent and dang.

Serpen is really fucked up.

He’s been raised to fulfill his one duty—to use the Holy Sword and protect the continent. He’s been through so many trials to do just that, he’s been forced to commit “necessary evil” (eg. killing a baby monster).

And when the time comes, he wasn’t even chosen. He could not fulfill his duty, which was the center of his entire life. It was his only motivation.

Now that he can’t fulfill it, what was it all for? Without his duty, what was he? Who is he? What is his meaning in life?

No wonder he snapped.

What if you outgrew the idea that you are not enough?

I don’t think I truly understood what it meant to believe that I wasn’t enough until I started to believe that I was enough. It’s hard to recognize these wounds when they actively have a hold on you. Usually I don’t notice an open wound until the healing process begins. I know I’m not alone in this. Maybe this is what transformation is all about, we learn as we grow and we grow as we learn.

Coming from the perspective of a recovering addict who has always struggled with bettering myself, my advice is really simple but if you listen, it’ll work for you.

Do not, under any circumstances, stop believing in yourself. Trust the process of becoming and be patient with yourself. If you always keep the life you dream of creating for yourself at the front of your mind, you will be lead straight into it. That’s a fact, never give up. Don’t you ever ever ever give up.

The Arathan Zodiac

Later interpreted into Alanian Star Signs that they use for horoscopes much in the same way we do

These are all constellations that exist in our world too, but I decided to give some of them my own designs. It is based on the Irish Zodiac with some animals swapped out.

Replaced Salmon with Otter

Replaced Butterfly with Rabbit

Replaced Lizard with Bear

This zodiac is how the ancient people of Alania justified the existence of BeastKind, categorizing them into twelve (thirteen) overarching species.

Deerkind-

Includes different species of deer as fauns

Represented by Rangifer/Beithe

Felinekind-

Includes breeds of house cats and wildcats like lynxes and tigers. Also known as catkind.

Represented by Felis/Luis

Bovinekind-

Includes cows, oxen, goats, and sheep

Also known as cowkind, minotaur, goatkind, satyr, and sheepkind

Represented by Taurus/Gort

Equinekind-

Includes horses in the form of ipotane and centaurs. Also known as horsekind. There are also zebras.

Represented by Equuleus/Tinne

Rodentkind-

Includes rabbits, squirrels, and mice

Also known as rabbitkind, squirrelkind and mousekind

Represented by Lepus/Sail

Serpentkind-

Primarily composed of naga, also known as Snakekind

Represented by Serpens/Nion

Bearkind-

Comprised of mostly brown and black bears, or those native to the country

Represented by Delphinus/Huath, because of their connection to water and how the constellation can also be interpreted. Delphinus is a dolphin.

Otterkind-

Comprised mainly of river and sea otters

Represented by Lacerta/Coll

Lacerta is actually a lizard, but I’m using it because it kinda looks like an otter too

Caninekind-

Includes wolves, foxes, and various breeds of dogs. Also known as wolfkind, foxkind and dogkind.

Represented by Lupus/Ngetal

Songbirdkind-

Includes smaller species of birds, such as parrots and finches. Primary features are wings and talons.

Represented by Corvus/Dur

Waterfowlkind-

Includes birds with webbed feet that can be found in the area. Swans, ducks, geese and seagulls.

Represented by Cygnus/Muon

Raptorkind-

Includes birds of prey, such as eagles, hawks and falcons.

Represented by Aquila/Ruis

Foxkind-

While technically a species of Caninekind, some scholars have given Foxkind a category all its own due to their unique mannerisms and mythologies.
