weirdly everyone else being so defeatist about the Nancy Drew finale is making me feel more optimistic about it?
At the end of the day this has been the "the plot sucks but the character work is excellent" show for 2 seasons now so why not go out that way?

I've really been trying to measure my expectations with the amount of Chenford's relationship we'll see onscreen (because this is an ensemble show after all) but the decision to not show everyone's reaction to their relationship does feel like a gaping hole in the story. Tim and Lucy made such a big deal about the station finding out about them and then...nothing. The writers have done a lot right with their relationship this season but this is a huge miss.

I wish spn handled its monsters better. I wish spn knew how to cope with having 2 leads be monsters. I feel like so many of the things about this show that make me want to scream would be fixed if the writers didn’t think they needed their monster characters to be de-powered in order to be ‘good’
#I feel like I’ve cracked the code on this#Anyways I personally always took sams side on the whole monster debate#Being a ‘monster’ doesn’t make you inherently evil. Your /choices/ make you evil#but the way the show works structurally speaking#means that monsters will always be /framed/ as evil#bc the writers didn’t understand that you could have a full powered ‘monster’ be on the good team#Therefore in season 4 - when Sam is as powerful as he ever gets - Sam is sorta framed as an antagonist for dean#in season 6 when cas is a full-power angel - cas becomes the antagonist for the season#All this means that because Dean is the one of them who’s fully /human/#he’s almost always leading the charge on the ‘good’ team and therefore becomes the POV character#And then his decisions are inherently framed as being /good/ bc ‘oh no sammy has powers and we need to have him be antagonistic’#‘Otherwise the plot of the season gets resolved in 2 seconds bc if Sam is full-powered and also /good/ he could just instakill Lilith’#‘And we have no 22 episode arc’#<- from the perspective of the writers#and I get it#I /see/ what they’re doing#but I wish they’d tried to be a little more creative#bc the message that ends up getting put forth is that monsters actually /are/ evil and Sam is wrong and Dean is always perfect#(despite dean making WILDLY awful decisions)#And god#poor fucking cas#this whole ‘either you’re evil or your de-powered’ shit REALLY does a number on him#lea speaks

hey! it's been a while since my last proper life update so it's about time for another! 🌸
Soo I started a new job on sunday and it's going rly rly well! I work at a bagel store, and I used to work at a different location for a few months right before covid and while it was by far the least stressful and least bad job I'd had overall, after working here for three days I realize that at the other store we had been understaffed like 99% of the time and that this job is actually a lot less stressful when there's a reasonable number of people working. so I'm glad that I'm working here now! everyone I've met so far has been very nice and it's just overall a very nice and chill atmosphere, I am genuinely so pleased :)
alsooo i started learning "je te veux" on piano a few days ago and according to the sheet music it's supposed to be played at 176bpm and so far I've learned half the song at 120bpm and honestly it still sounds delightful. 176 seems unnecessarily fast. like maybe I'll get it up to 150 but idrc about getting it that fast rly lol. it's been fun tho! the last song i rly took the time to learn all the way thru was "the very last night" over this summer and that was also fun but je te veux is like an actual song lol and it's very festive and jolly so im having a good time with that!
also I've been doing a lot of reading lately! here's some brief reviews!
- the world cannot give, tara isabella burton; fun read, cool vibes. i read another book by her called "social creature" which i also read in two days and was pretty compelling
- when we were young, richard roper; also a fun quick read! definitely had some laugh out loud moments. it was enjoyable although i think his other book "how not to die" had a more developed story and characters and i liked more in general.
- family of liars, e. lockhart; a pretty good sequel for "we were liars" which i read a year ago or more, but i feel like this had a similar vibe and voice to the first book, and overall the story didn't feel like a forced prequel, but held up just fine on its own.
- currently i'm reading cards on the table by agatha christie, which is the 15th book in the hercule poirot series lol. i started the series earlier this year and altho it's not always very riveting they are pretty quick and fun reads, and it gives me something to read when i don't feel like im the mood for anything else, ya know? also it's kinda interesting to read about domestic life (and death! Lol) in early 20th century england. this book is called cards on the table cause it took place during a game of bridge, and i think if i knew anything about bridge id probably appreciate it a little more though it's been a solid book regardless.
also i read the play "who's afraid of virginia woolf" a couple weeks ago and i finished it cause it was pretty short but it was meh. like. just meh.
anyway! that's my once in a blue moon life update dump lol. would have to say im currently not doing too bad! the rest of the year has been pretty stressful and just miserable but at least the last couple months of 2021 are turning out ok!

Warning, the only people who will know what the fuck I'm talking about will be those who watched OG Charmed.
Been watching a lot of Charmed commentary on YouTube (don't ask me how, I haven't watched a Charmed related vid on YT for YEARS) (the most I do is listen to a Charmed re-watch podcast). I have been diving deep into Charmed rabbit holes and it's been a journey you guys.
ANYWAY, watching these videos and rewatching clips of the show has made me realize a horrific truth about myself...
I actually DID NOT like season 6. Hot take, I know, but LISTEN. Season 6, compared to Seasons 3, and 4 just does not hold up when it comes to individual plot and story. (Hell even 7 had a more compelling storyline). This is shocking for me, because I used to defend that season with my life. It was the hill I was always ready to die on.
And that got me thinking... Did I actually enjoy THE WHOLE season? No... not really. Which Season 6 episodes did I constantly watch over and over? Chris-Crossed, Spin City, and It's a Bad, Bad World. Episodes that were mainly Chris-centric.
And this also explains my ire over Season 7 and never wanting to give it a chance. At the end of Season 6, Chris dies and fades away, and Drew Fuller doesn't come back except for guest star spots.
Season 6 isn't my favourite Charmed Season... I was just hard core crushing on Chris Halliwell/Drew Fuller.
To be fair... he was GREAT on the show and the cast had amazing chemistry with him. I think had anyone known what exactly they wanted to DO with him (like... maybe do the whole "Chris is Piper and Leo's son" thing from the get go) a lot of Season 6's plot and story issues could have been resolved.
But hey... at least it gave me a reason to start fanfic writing and RPing.

Does anyone else feel like there’s no cultural zeitgeist right now?
Like I’m watching a show from 2011 and everything about it - the outfits, music, even the dialogue - is straight up indicative of that time period. It feels like 2011.
I couldn’t name a single trend from the last … 5? years that had a cultural / time-defined impact that lasted more than a second or two.
Is this the collective trauma blur?

hi!! i asked a while ago about your opinion about spuffy, and sr and s7 etc and i finally remembered that i asked and went wnd read your response and i completely agree! and especially about how interesting their relationship is and how they interact; i never felt like i wanted them to be endgame romantically but the relationship they do have is so important i think. i think sr was just such a bad writing Choice for so many reasons
hello !! im glad you saw my response !! :) and yess the relationship between buffy and spike is so interesting and important to me and just so fascinating to watch their development as characters happen along side each other and what they reveal about each other. i definitely agree with you about SR being a misstep narratively as it doesnt really add anything substantial to the characters and just is miserable to watch
