I saw a video where someone said that (if you're doing photography as a hobby, not as a career) the camera that makes you want to take more pictures and want to use that camera all the time is the best camera to buy, and for most people that might not be the most expensive, decked out camera out there.
and that advice really applies to most things, doesn't it? anyway, much like how I basically always turn to marie kondo's "does this spark joy?" question when it comes to Things, the above lesson is something that I think I'll take as a guiding principle whenever I'm spending hours on youtube watching product reviews because I want to buy a Thing but I don't know what model of the Thing I want to buy.
yes the Thing looks cool, but will it actually make me want to do [reason I'm buying the Thing for] more frequently? will it make me fall in love with the process of Using The Thing?

really love my digital camera but i definitely need to take pictures with my polaroid camera more often. i think it's a fun exercise when you only have 8 pictures per film and really need to think about which pictures you actually want to take

Furfur has two photos because he has two cameras
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The madness continues I guess? This is Fufur's camera(S) from the x-ray content on Amazon prime. They said it actually worked on the day, which is a little crazy for a few reasons... most notable of which, is that this is not one camera. It's two cameras.
The bottom one is a heavily modified 70's sx-70, probably with a front that has been covered in black pebble grain leather to hide the viewfinder and logos in the front. It's also upside-down, so that the polaroid comes out the top of the camera. I've drawn the shape hidden inside the steampunk accessories

That photo that comes out during this shot is from the sx-70 with the Mirage 28mm macro lens attached to it (lol wtf. That is extremely funny if you know anything about photography). The second camera is an original 1948 95 model land camera in black. These were originally portait or vertical, aned flipped out with a stand as the cover. Here they've added a barrel lens and taken the front cover stand off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They've also combined the viewfinders to be up top beside the flash. These older models didn't have an automatic film ejection. You had to rip the film out of the back after opening it. The film was also slightly different sizes than the polaroid you've probably seen before. See below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one is Furfur's camera ejection is wider than the smaller, more close up shot in Crowley's hand later in the dressing room. Because the images tracked on to the film in the theatre were 100% done in post (no polaroid film develops that fast), it could just be a small inconsistency. It would make sense. But why go through all the trouble to build a double polaroid camera for Furfur to use? And if there are two polaroids, where's the other one? And why does Furfur not seem to have it?.

David Sylvian - Perspectives (Polaroids 82-84)
”In the early part of 1982 I had, for numerous reasons, decided to take a rest from songwriting. This was to be the first break I had had since I’d started as a child at the age of 12. It was therefore not surprising that to relieve the subsequent frustration caused by this action, I turned to the only other creative outlet I’d known, and which had been my main preoccupation until my discovery of music, drawing.
The freshness brought on by this change, the naive pleasure of working and learning in a virtually unexplored area for me opened many doors.
Not least of which being my new found appreciation of the world of the arts. Drawings, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, a universe of creativity which had always been hidden from me, suddenly came to life. I had of course been aware of works by various famous artists before, but although I was able to appreciate a lot of what I had inadvertently seen, I had never felt anything emotionally from the work in the way that I could quite naturally feel from music.
Now all was changed. I first realised this whilst visiting a major exhibition by a painter living and working here in England, Frank Auerbach. The depth and intensity of emotion I experienced surpassed anything I had felt in music for a very long time, if at all. I explain this because through these and various other similar experiences my outlook on life and work changed (or maybe matured would be more appropriate) at quite a dramatic pace. In the midst of these changes came my first attempts at Polaroid montage.
It was during a visit to Hong Kong, one of the stops towards the end of a rather lengthy tour, that I first started working with Polaroid film. As was my routine throughout the tour, I would return to my hotel after the day’s performance and there I would stay for the remainder of the evening, reading and drawing sketches. On our arrival in Hong Kong we found ourselves with a day free. However, having been there fairly recently, and not having particularly enjoyed the place, I decided to spend the day at the hotel, and among other things write some letters and complete some rawings. By evening, having filled all the paper space available with notes and sketches and wishing to continue working on ideas formed while drawing, I turned to the only materials available to me at that time, the Polaroids. This is how it started and so it has continued since, constantly developing, trying to find different uses for the same materials, and when a new technique shows itself using it to the advantage of creating interesting photographs/pictures. I feel I must point out that although looking back I know there were other artists working with Polaroids in the same, or similar areas as myself (most notable of these being D. Hockney), at this time (the remaining months of ’82) I was working totally by means of self-discovery as I had no other possible guides. I gradually became more aware of the work of others towards the middle of ’83. Sometimes consciously (and I hope with humour) I place references in my work to that of others.
Prior to my work with the SX-70, my interest in photography was to be found in areas of concept and design. I never intended or expected to become personally involved in photography, indeed even now my knowledge of the practical side of the art is extremely limited. For this reason and also because of the nature of the work I do, I would not begin to think of myself as a photographer. I have far too much respect for the people who spend a large part of their lives working with the camera (Brassai, Kertesz, Riboud, Benton, McBean and Ray) and who give true meaning to the word.
I do not see the work in this book as an end in itself. Essentially I believe that there are only a handful of pictures I have produced which transcend the techniques used and show a possibility of standing up to time. The remainder are either very personal pictures and ‘or show and explore germs of ideas which may be followed up in the future by work in other mediums.
My experimenting with Polaroids is about at an end. Although I’m still working with the techniques I’ve developed in an attempt to produce pictures of a more lasting quality. I’ll soon be turning my interests to new areas, using, along with new ideas, the more valuable I have learnt from working with Polaroids."

I saw this picture of a snake in a stupid xmas hat and had to write this. Happy S3 renewal
Christmas Snat (Snake Hat)
Crowley slowly wakes up from a nap and yawns. He sleepily looks around the bookshop from where he's curled up on the armchair. He sees Aziraphale busying himself with hanging christmas decorations around the place, happily humming to himself some christmas tune. He flicks his snakey tongue out and takes in the smell of cinnamon and hot chocolate and gingerbread and smiles to himself. Aziraphale turns around from where he's just finished hanging up some string lights and glances at him.
"Oh, you're awake," he smiles warmly. "how was your nap, dear?"
Crowley stretches out his neck and slithers off the chair smoothly, sliding across the floor towards him. Aziraphale is quick to stretch out his hands, picking him up gently. Crowley coils around his neck and settles across his shoulders comfortably.
"Niccce decorating," he half hisses sleepily, nuzzling his neck.
"Aw, thank you! I'm nearly done, I'm just missing a few touches here and there, if you'd like to help. But right now, how about we have some gingerbread?"
"Sssoundsss good," he says as he moves his head to the side and tries to scratch it against Aziraphale's collar.
"What's wrong, dear?" Aziraphale asks as he walks to the backroom to retrieve the gingerbread cookies he's set on the coffee table.
"Head'sss itchy," Crowley grumbles, twisting around and trying to scratch the other side.
"Oh, that um-"
On their way, they pass by a mirror and Crowley catches sight of himself. His eyes go wide.
"Angel!"
Aziraphale scurries past by the mirror straight into the backroom.
"Angel. WHAT. Isssss. On. My. Head?"
"Nothing!" He picks up the gingerbread, along with two mugs from a cupboard, and quickly returns to the sitting area in the bookshop.
"It'ssss not nothing! I sssaw that! What did you put on my head!?"
"Oh, it's just a hat, it's festive!" he says as he sets down the gingerbread on the little table. "Mulled wine?" he asks, pouring some into the black mug.
"Yesss but take thisss thing off me!"
"But it's pretty," he pouts, "and it's festive and I got it just for you."
"And it'sss itchy and I want it off!"
He sighs. "Alright fine. But at least let me get a photograph of you with it."
"Abssssolutely not!" he uncoils from his neck and slithers off onto the sofa.
"Oh, please? And you'll never have to wear it again," he says, looking at him with big doe eyes
Crowley growls as he glares up at him. "Fine," he hisses.
Aziraphale's face lights up as he flashes him a bright smile and turns to retrieve his old SX-70.
"Alright, look at the lens," he instructs him as he positions himself in front of him and gets ready to take the picture.
"Thisss isss humiliating," Crowley grumbles.
"No, you look adorable! Alright smile!"
Crowley frowns. Aziraphale grins like a child as he snaps the picture. As soon as it's out, Crowley shakes his head violently, trying to get the damn thing off. Aziraphale sets the camera and the picture down, very pleased with himself and smiles at Crowley.
"Oh, alright. Here," he leans down and plucks the stupid hat from his head, giving it a light scratch with his finger. "All better?"
"yeyeye, jussst like that," Crowley almost purrs.
Aziraphale smiles and gives his snout a light boop. "I love you, you silly snake," he kisses the top of his head and stands back up. "now, how about you turn back so we can have these delicious cookies I've just made?"
Crowley stretches his neck up as he turns back into human form. He rolls his shoulders and gives his arms a little shake, settling back into this form again. Curiosity gets the best of him, and he reaches down to pick up the picture. He makes a disgusted face a it.
"Ugh, I look ridiculous."
"You looked absolutely adorable!" Aziraphale says as he wraps an arm around him and gazes down at the picture, smiling softly.
"I'm gonna burn it."
"Don't you dare!" he snatches the picture away from him and safely tucks it in his pocket. "Now, be a dear and try my cookies. Yes?"
Crowley groans softly but obediently sits down and reaches for a cookie and his mug of mulled wine. Aziraphale sits beside him and pecks his cheek before reaching one for himself.
