THREEPIO GOES DARK AND OTHER ALIEN CURIOSITIES FROM A STAR WARS STORY.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on a couple of concept art contributions to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," an early version of K-2SO and an unnamed, humanoid alien race, c. 2014-2015. Artwork by Kinman Chan. Lucasfilm Ltd.
PIC #1: K2-SO concept art, Version 1 -- "This was the very first concept done for K2S0. I was prompted to create an all black C-3PO for the film in it's beginning concept stages. This was my attempt to get it right."
PIC #2: "I'd painted several images of aliens in their natural habitats for the film. Here's one of them. Gareth Edwards was really pushing for humanistic qualities and relationships between the aliens in the film. It was both a fun and great idea to explore."
-- KINMAN CHAN (professional artist/concept artist)

The poll decreed that the majority wanted to see some feline-based star wars character designs, so here's a bunch of little space meow meows for you all!
So here we have a farghul pilot, a lynna privateer, a togorian noble, a trianii smuggler, a cathar bard musician, and a zygerrian padawan!

Yep, definitely in a fight….
a knife fight….
with actual knives I swear
Been a hot minute, but yep, more Star Wars fan art. Take this joke whatever you will; I saw that one Tumblr text post and had to draw this idea….
(me continuously refusing to draw Embo's armor, and Cad's duster and gauntlets cuz I didn't feel like it….and backgrounds….fuck backgrounds; it's just textures and gradients at this point)

Another thing to add to the bad batch brainrot: someone on the creative team is a massive Alien (1979) fan. I mean the whole Episode with the Zillo beast clone, scary abandoned space ship, unhurtable foreign species, weird technology who doesn’t give all the information at first, you’re not supposed to split up, tech, but they do anyways and the entire theme of “this is fucked up because humans can’t let nature be and must use it as weaponry”.
Thanks for hearing me out!
Tumblr media
Edit: I just remembered how alien ends (everybody dies (no, that’s not a Spoiler the film is 45 years old)) and suddenly im not very happy about my theory that it could have inspired bad batch.

I really want more Star Wars content that features a nonhuman character has the main character. Like we are in space people, this is no reason that all the main characters of the movies need to be all human. That’s another reason why I love Ahsoka because she’s not human, she’s a togruta, that’s why I love Hera and Zeb and Plo and Kit Fisto and-
You get the point. Star Wars has created so many alien designs (some better than others) but they only use them for background characters. And mostly it’s because they are lazy when it comes to live action.
I’ve seen cosplayers in twi’lek and togruta lekku and montrals to backflips in costume (to full proper length and what not) yet a multi billion dollar company can’t make that happen?
I’m just saying that we should have more Star Wars aliens

I read your entire faq thing and even looked at the website for ae/aer pronouns. I’m a huge fan of neos, a lot of the ones I see are really clear with what the user of them associates with (like bun/bunself for someone who is a bunny) Maybe it’s my lack of understanding about neos but does ae/aer have a correlation with something? Nonetheless I do like the sound of it
Ae/aer neopronouns were introduced from the 1920s Sci-fi novel A Voyage to Arcturus (David Lindsay)!
Tumblr media
I have a copy of the book myself, and I so far have really enjoyed it, though I'm only a few pages in. I don't see these pronouns as part of my gender or expression, however, I see them as an outlet for my self-perception as almost being alien. I liked, especially, how this set was made for an "alien" people - I think more Sci-fi should explore that because it makes more sense than to pretend like human understanding of one's place is universal, plus, it's just more fun and interesting.

I’ve struggled with Castin’s design for as long as I can remember. He used to just have regular, long lekku, then I made one short, either cut that way or didn’t develop, to sorta match with Luke’s missing hand. I draw him with a cybernetic lekku when I want him to be able to gesture and sign.
Tumblr media
But I’ve also wanted to make both lekku short, since it would sorta balance out his symmetry and make for a unique design that matches how I look with my short hair? Idk. I’m still thinking abt it, and I wanna know other people’s thoughts!

Who the hell says tv shows/movies even have to have plots? I would love to see David Attenborough do a nature documentary on the flora and fauna of the various planets from the original Star Wars trilogy!

GEORGE LUCAS ASKED FOR A MONSTER IN A PIT -- AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT HE GOT.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on early concept art for Jabba's Rancor by the late, great Ralph McQuarrie (1929-2012), plus paintings of the creature's final design, from "STAR WARS: Return of the Jedi" c. late '70s/early '80s. Lucasfilm Ltd.
OVERVIEW: "The concept for the rancor in "Return of the Jedi" was described by its creators as "a cross between a bear and a potato." It was first to be played by an actor in a suit, but no one was satisfied with the results. The rancor was then made as a rod-operated puppet, filmed with a high-speed camera to slow its movements down to give the illusion of a much larger creature.
PART II: A combination of matte painting, cartoon rotoscoping, and CG elements were added around the creation to make it look bigger and more menacing. Some of these changes were later omitted or replaced with CG effects in the 2004 DVD release of the original trilogy."

Togrutas' pigmentation
A random togruta headcanon I’ve been thinking about for a while and finally decided to write down!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The original and most common pigmentation combinations for togrutas are as follows:
Blue lekku and red skin
Light blue lekku and orange skin
Green lekku and yellow skin
Yellow lekku and brown skin
These were the only colours that the togrutas could have, and sometimes these combinations would mix, but in the end they were always the same 4 skin colours and the same 4 lekku colours.
These remain the most common combinations on the planet of Shili, but it is very common now to find togrutas with completely different colours from the originals ones around the galaxy.
These changes occurred thanks to the encounter with other alien species. It is in fact not uncommon for togrutas who do not live on Shili to have human, twi'lek, mirialian, pantoran or any near-human mammalian species as partners.
Togruta genes are very dominant, so the only difference the second parent's genes can bring is a change in the offspring's coloration. Precisely for this reason new combinations have begun to be exist, some examples:
Pink lekku and red skin
Blue lekku and purple skin
Yellow lekku and blue skin
Gray lekku and green skin
and many others.
As mentioned these combinations can be found around the galaxy, but they’re uncommon on Shili, where the main 4 combinations are still the most common, but the more new pigmentations can still be encountered in the larger cities.

"One thing I've learned throughout my career, is that you can't trust anyone....not even those you considered, 'family.'"
With all the hype surrounding Cad's return in the upcoming season of The Bad batch, I finally got around to drawing his latest outfit. I'd been a lil' hesitant, because of how much more is going on with it....but I figured it out
So here's him and Ember, probably catching up on what's been going on and all that jazz.

thinking again about how much I wish more sentient species in Star Wars had tails
there's like... almost *none* in current show/film canon. not sure about the comics. think there might be some mentioned in books but with no visuals only text descriptions.
lots of aliens with other feline and/or canine features for instance... but never including tails??
I want! more! tails!
