No cuz I like aos and I absolutely adore strange new worlds, but there is one thing that really pisses me off though and it’s how they try soo hard to make Spock straight. Like it feels soooo forced to me. If you’re too scared to make him the gay icon he already is, then at least just don’t give him any love interest, especially ones that feel so forced. I guess the one good thing I can think of is that all of his female love interests don’t work out and he feels forced to hide his true self, and change the way he presents himself to his lovers, which I think is queer representation in some way, but it still makes me sad. Asking for Kirk and Spock to be official, as bad as I want it, it’s a lot to ask. But doing something so little as just letting Spock be gay or even just not giving him a love interest is not that hard, and us queer trekkies deserve that I think.
Watched the first episode of star trek and I love how mister spock looks vaguely perplexed throughout the entire episode, also loved how Pike was kidnapped by an alien race that lured him in with an attractive lady, then proceeded to repeatedly call him a stupid bitch
Look I'm still loving a lot about Strange New Worlds and I'm absolutely fucking loving a series not taking itself seriously all the goddamned time but couple notes:
You'll never make the Gorn scary. Stop trying to make Scary Gorn happen. I've seen their true face and it's a rubber dinosaur hand puppet.
it honestly does not feel like the writers of this show know anything about Vulcan culture, and it's really interfering with me getting on board with what they want for the T'Pring plots. Prioritizing personal relationship over public duty is the LEAST illogical beef for her to have with Spock and she's presented as cunning enough that I can't come up with any good reason for her not to twist words to better make herself look like the logical one. Also getting rid of the cultural use of arranged partnerships is weird and it feels lazy. Like listen I'm not saying Vulcans actually ARE purely logical or always DO put the needs of the many first but crucially, they always SAY that they are and they SAY that they do. Vulcan is a culture full of liars. It's a culture full of liars that claim to be unable to lie and a culture of repressed weirdos putting their whole culture through elaborate contortions to let them get their desires without ever expressing desire and THAT'S WHAT MAKES THEM INTERESTING.
Having spilled all that ink it's a goddamned delight to see this show just go balls to the wall with silly TOS bullshit like body swap episode are you KIDDING ME, SNW you know I can't stay mad at you
