Shane Patrick Lysaght MacGowan (25 December 1957 – 30 November 2023)

#OTD in 1984 – Singer and musician, Luke Kelly, was laid to rest at Glasnevin Cemetery.
‘His legacy was putting his own stamp on a song such that it became the definitive version of a song for others to come along and emulate.’ –John Sheahan. The mass was celebrated by Fr Michael Cleary at the Church of the Holy Child in Whitehall and The Dubliners performed during the ceremony. Kelly’s brothers, John, Jimmy and Paddy carried his coffin along with banjo player Barney McKenna. Luke…

Quick Q and A with Conor Ryan Hennessy
Quick Q and A with Conor Ryan Hennessy Imagine my surprise when I got notice of this year’s New Folk at the Kerrville Folk Festival (a legendary fest that has a distinct position among all festivals in that it’s an 18-day event and many folks stay for the duration.  A lot of stellar songwriters set up camp on the festival site and collaborate with others throughout the fest. This year one of the…

This is love! If not what is?
It's been soooo long since I did a MV redraw! But when I found Hyolyn and Paul Blanco's new song it gave me instant butterflies and I got hyperfixated on it because it suits Ronnie and Drew so well. 🥺✨

#OTD in 1984 – Death of Luke Kelly, lead vocalist and 5-string banjo member of the Dubliners.

Indeed, while Luke often sang of the poor, the oppressed, the worker, the lover or the rebel –the realities of his own life and upbringing enlivened and gave weight to his songs and the emotional way in which he sang them. And his own childhood and youth was anything but privileged. Born on…
