An international archaeology project has unearthed the remains of a Roman pagan temple beneath a parking lot in Spello, Italy. The ruins of this ancient structure have been dated to the era of the Roman emperor Constantine, who ruled Rome between 306 and 337 AD.
Constantine's historic conversion to Christianity marked a pivotal moment, as the majority of the Roman Empire still followed the imperial cult religion. The uncovered temple, dedicated to Constantine's alleged divine ancestors, the Flavian dynasty, highlights his efforts to integrate Christian and pagan practices. This challenges previous notions of a swift transition, emphasizing the complex coexistence of religions during Constantine's reign.
Professor Douglas Boin, who leads the project, emphasizes that the temple's existence challenges conventional views of cultural shifts, offering a tangible piece of evidence that blurs the lines between paganism and early Christianity in the Roman Empire.

thinking about connor in prague saying "dad's theory was you got two fighting dogs, you send the weak one away, you punish the weak one." in relation to this episode, and the way the siblings view abuse inside their own family.
shiv and kendall and their belief that connor and roman are the weak dogs that got the brunt of logan's worst behavior, because abuse is reserved for the kids who can't behave - the ones who aren't smart and mature enough to make it in the world. abuse evokes pity, because abuse is what happens when you expect too much from people who obviously aren't capable of more.
and then they go forward in life, believing that they're just naturally more intelligent and more capable than connor and roman, as if being raised seeing what happens to you if you aren't a perfect child wasn't the entire point of the "punish the weak dog" mentality that logan instilled in them. the looming threat implied behind any praise they do receive that tacitly tells them "you're not like roman and connor" because everyone knows what happens to roman and connor.
the absolute height of the rich capitalist mindset. "we're succeeding because of our own merit, and other people fail because they don't have what it takes" when in reality they're succeeding because of arbitrary rules made up by someone who knows that infighting makes meaner dogs.

Uploading all my Tomgreg art at once from the past few week before season 4 hits, who knows in what kind of mental state i'm gonna be once it does :')
#tomgreg#succession#dont even talk to me i started watching this show when i had nothing to do at work and now i watch it with averiel my good friend averiel#and we are going to watch s4 together and i feel physically ill from bein so excited#so ya thats what ive been up to... anyway. i love these idiots they desever nothing but the worst (affectionate)#im also a tomshiv lover btw. im the one who yells 'THIS IS HOW TOMSHIV CAN STILL WIN' while they are actively losing on screen#thats the kind of person i am#dont look at me (lying on the floor)#okay i was not going to say stuff in the tags and let the art speak for itself but i NEED to point out details in the wine Painting..#i put a lot of work into that one. thinly veiled metaphors and symbolism yknow..#greg is gripping the stem of the wine glass with his full fist. tom and greg are dressed in the same outfit (sock garters included)#greg look appalled but he is not doing anything about the spill. tom is fondly pouring greg more and more wine. he is doing him a favor#i colored the red wine the same way i would color blood :) oh and tom is not really touching greg#only holding the chair in place. greg is making himself look smaller than he is like usual#oh and @ the person who said that it's the inverse of the tom and nate scene i love the way you think. i did not think of that before#but god. yeah. i actually thought about the scene change from when roman uhh.. christens his office in s1. the one with the coffee machine#i always go insane at that cut. this is not exactly the same since it's more.. about emotions but yknow.. it can be.. the same...

so we all agree that kirkwall is both horrifying and fascinating and i wish they'd delved more into its bloody history beyond the snippets we get from the codexes of the band of three. like hello?? three seekers of truth - among which a dalish mage - scurrying about the sewers and lower passages of the city, discovering that kirkwall was designed as some sort of magical symbol, has grooves in the sewers allowing the flood of blood downward for blood magic purposes, and last but not least realizing that its circle of magi had a much higher number of failed harrowings & episodes of blood magic hysteria than basically any other circle in existence??? you cant leave me hanging like that. why was the veil so thin there even before tevinter came? why were they weakening it further?? what was tevinter doing with all those disappeared slaves every year and the huge blood magic ritual involving thousands of slaves and the city itself being a magic symbol??? did the band ever find out if the Forbidden Ones are the same Forgotten Ones of dalish lore??? why was xebenkeck called 'forgotten one'??? hello????? what the fuck is up in kirkwall??????

Okay, okay. But when you get right down go it, Edmund is just one person. He's not the whole of humanity (or Narnia-anity, as the case may be) - he's just one guy who committed a crime and whose life is therefore forfeit. Aslan takes his place in a direct, one-to-one swap: guilty for innocent. In the process he atones for all sin, but Edmund's the one whose life is being directly saved. The executioner lets him go.
Guys. Edmund is Barabbas.

It really is incredible the way succession will keep showing you just how amoral and callous the Roy kids can be and you'll hit the point where you start to question why you're even watching anymore because they're all just so awful, and then they'll do something so pathetically human and broken that you can't imagine ever looking away or not caring anymore. The writers always seem to know exactly when to stop and it's genuinely stunning.

‘It’s not so bad,’ says Crassus, tracing a finger over some embroidery on a pillow while Lucullus laughs. Gold thread. ‘Your wine tastes like shit, though.’
just some kind of scene, I’ve been thinking some thoughts about Lucullus and Crassus recently, and I’ve. cracked the code, I think.
The last panel is Gustave Boulanger’s painting, A Summer Repast at the House of Lucullus

Me Finding Out Protestants Outright Believe Praying for the Souls of the Departed is a Sin:
THIS WHY YOU GUYS GOT SO MANY GHOSTS
Y’all never thought that praying for people who have passed could be a good thing???? You think that’s a bad thing??? Bruh Purgatory fucking SUCKS and y’all just leaving people there with no epic anime friendship speech??? You leaving them there on their own????
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU GUYS DON’T BELIEVE IN PURGATORY?!
You think as you are now you can face God? If a meteor crashed directly into you right this second, you think you, in all your tumblr using sin can face God and not EXPLODE?!
Buddy if you can’t handle looking directly into the sun after getting your eyes dilated by the optometrist then you sure as pickles can’t handle looking directly at God without having a buffer

Hardknott Roman Fort, Hardknott Pass, Lake District
I've been to the fort many times but the weather on this occasion was something special; stark contrasts of bright sunshine, blue skies and snow topped peaks. It's an inspirational landscape.
