Till (2022, dir. Chinonye Chukwu) - review by Rookie-Critic

Till was the rare biopic that manages to rise above the genre trappings and give its audience something a little more than just a rehashing of historical events. By putting Mamie Till-Mobley at the film's center and focusing on the grief of a mother who needlessly lost her son to racist brutality, Chukwu has allowed the film to breathe, and has allowed the audience to come in and be outraged and distraught with her. The film never feels emotionally manipulative, which would have been very easy to do here. Instead, the film starkly shows the nature of what happened that day, and how Till-Mobley handled the aftermath, the history speaks for itself here, and Danielle Deadwyler is merely performing as a conduit for her grief, her anger, and her determination. Other civil rights figures of the time, such as Medgar Evers and T. R. M. Howard make appearances, and instead of pulling major focus towards these very famous figures, the film instead allows them to take a backseat. This is not their story, it's Till-Mobley's, and Chukwu respects the real life people this movie is based on enough to allow them to take center stage and never falters from that. There's really not a lot else to say, it's just an incredibly well-made historical drama with an oft overlooked, wildly sympathetic and empowering woman at its core. Till is well worth the watch.

Character Actress

Jan Clayton (August 26, 1917 – August 28, 1983)  Film, musical theater, and television actress. She starred in the popular 1950s TV series Lassie.

In May 1954, Clayton guest-starred in ABC's sitcom Where's Raymond?, starring Ray Bolger as a song-and-dance man, Raymond Wallace. She played Francine Tremont, an actress and wife of a banker.

In 1954, Clayton was one of the many guest stars in a television spectacular tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein, The General Foods 25th Anniversary Show, which featured all the then-surviving stars (except Alfred Drake) of all the classic Broadway musicals that the team had written (1943–1954). Clayton and John Raitt, in full makeup and costume, performed "If I Loved You" (also known as the Bench Scene) from Carousel. It was the first opportunity for millions of viewers to see a scene from the musical, since none of the film versions of the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage musicals had yet been released. Clayton during this period also played herself in an appearance on Peter Lawford's short-lived NBC sitcom Dear Phoebe.

Clayton became known to TV audiences as the mother of Jeff Miller (Tommy Rettig) on the television series Lassie (a.k.a. Jeff's Collie in syndication reruns). Clayton played the first four seasons of Lassie, from September 1954 to December 1957, as Ellen Miller, a war widow living on her father-in-law's farm with her preteen son, Jeff, and her late husband's cantankerous old father, Gramps (played by the Canadian-born George Cleveland).

Clayton performed in the 1961 episode "The Prairie Story" on NBC's Wagon Train. The episode, written by Jean Holloway, examines how the harsh prairie causes havoc in the lives of some of the women on the wagon train. Robert Horton starred in this episode, which aired three months after the death of Ward Bond.

In the 1962 episode "St. Louis Woman" on NBC's The Tall Man, Clayton performed in the role of Janet Harper, a widow engaged to Tom Davis ( Canadian-born Russ Conway), a friend of Sheriff Pat Garrett (Barry Sullivan). While Tom is away from Lincoln, New Mexico, the setting of The Tall Man, on a cattle drive, Janet begins to show a romantic interest in Garrett. Roger Mobley appears in this episode as David Harper, Janet's young son.

In "The Man Who Wouldn't Die", a 1967 episode of the syndicated series Death Valley Days, Clayton was cast as the Margaret Wilbarger, the sister of Texas pioneer Josiah Wilbarger, who lived for 11 years after being scalped by the Comanche. Don Collier played Wilbarger, for whom Wilbarger County, Texas, is named, along with Wilbarger's brother.

Two men indicted on federal charges related to Lakeland drive-by shooting

U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced Wednesday charges against two Lakeland men in connection with the Jan. 30 drive-by shooting that sent 11 people to the hospital – two of which remain in critical condition. Eamon Joseph O'Brien (September 10, 1915 – May 9, 1985) Film and television actor and film director. His career spanned almost 40 years.

Primarily a film actor O'Brien worked heavily in television, on such shows as Pulitzer Prize Playhouse, Lux Video Theatre and Schlitz Playhouse of Stars and Playhouse 90 episode, The Comedian,

From 1959 to 1960, O'Brien portrayed the title role in the syndicated crime drama Johnny Midnight, about a New York City actor-turned-private detective.

O'Brien had roles on many television series, including an appearance on Target: The Corruptors!, The Eleventh Hour, Breaking Point and Mission: Impossible.

In the mid-'60s, O'Brien co-starred with Roger Mobley and Harvey Korman in the "Gallegher" episodes of NBC's Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. From 1963 to 1965, he co-starred in the NBC legal drama Sam Benedict.

Richard Rust (July 13, 1938 – November 9, 1994)  Actor of stage, television, and film born in Boston, probably best remembered for his role as a young lawyer in NBC's Sam Benedict series (1962–1963).

In 1959, Rust appeared in the episode "Well of Gold" of the NBC children's western series, Buckskin, starring Tom Nolan. He also appeared in several western television programs, including Black Saddle with Peter Breck, The Man from Blackhawk starring Robert Rockwell, The Rifleman starring Chuck Connors, Gunsmoke with James Arness, Tales of Wells Fargo starring Dale Robertson, Johnny Ringo with Don Durant, and Have Gun – Will Travel with Richard Boone. He twice guest starred on ABC/Warner Brothers series, Bourbon Street Beat with Andrew Duggan, and 77 Sunset Strip with Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. Rust guest starred on other ABC/WB programs too, including Sugarfoot with Will Hutchins, Bronco with Ty Hardin, Lawman with John Russell, and The Roaring 20s. Rust appeared on the syndicated series, The Brothers Brannagan with Stephen Dunne and Mark Roberts, and Rescue 8, with Jim Davis and Lang Jeffries. He guest starred too on James Franciscus's short-lived CBS series The Investigators.

After Sam Benedict, Rust appeared in various television programs, including Gary Lockwood's The Lieutenant, which occupied the former time slot on Saturday nights held the previous year by Sam Benedict. He guest starred on three episodes of Have Gun – Will Travel starring Richard Boone, two episodes of Perry Mason with Raymond Burr, Bonanza, Christopher George's The Rat Patrol, and Cade's County with Glenn Ford.
