Powershipping AU (Under the cut)
Instead of Yami Marik just killing Malik’s father, they struggle with the Sennen Rod and fight. Resulting in them both dying. (Malik/Yami Marik and Mr Ishtar.) Distraught, Ishizu grabs the necklace and sees her first vision of the future. They smuggle their younger brothers body to Japan going to Kaiba corp. Where they meet Seto Kaiba. Through bribery, dragons and whatever else. He agrees to help.
Seto then creates a fully interactive holographic image of Malik with his mind within the projection, he can come and go from a room into a virtual world. Sometimes there is a glitch in the systems which Kaiba’s a tad too stuck up to admit since he hasn’t seen it himself. The glitch is Yami Marik still residing deep within Malik’s mind.
Eventually Seto begins to set more projectors and such around the building and city so he can explore further. However getting too far away from the main frame they can glitch out but honestly Malik doesn’t mind. Still he usually reports it back because it can be due to an error back at the mainframe/labs. His siblings are able to visit him within the virtual world using headgear. And Kaiba comes to check his condition a lot, well it wasn’t a lot at first but now it kinda is.
Sometimes however Malik will purposefully glitch out to avoid situations he doesn’t want to be in. He can control it if he concentrates on doing so, such as to get past guards or particular topics like his father. Plus honestly, he doesn’t really remember what happened. And no one has the heart to tell him, and he doesn’t tell them about the odd dreams he gets about it sometimes.
He knows his father died and they moved to Japan. He does question occasionally but mostly in private, staring at his own hand, he knows he’s not exactly alive. Because he’s not really human any more mostly a hologram and Kaiba started work on a robotic body for him, he’d tested that a few times but it still needed a higher power source and more testing.
They do need to recharge at the end of the day regardless so most nights he does stay in the computer, Kaiba has the highest security on that singular computer. Higher than most of his own data and information. He programmed Malik a house there and a room, everything he wanted.
And if you want it more series related:
They play duel monsters often and Seto is intrigued in some of the rare cards Malik holds within in deck. He still participated within Battle City tournament, because at this time he had actually started to question why he was different. And he faintly remembers Shadi’s words. He starts growing angry knowing he was being lied to and runs from Kaiba corp, with the help of Rishid he creates the rare hunters. Rishid helps because he will not lose his brother. Not again.
Kaiba merely continues his work on duel disks and when Ishizu comes requesting to see him, he won’t admit it but he’s curious where Malik went. Malik stole the blueprints and built a new worsened charge station for himself but it worked. So Kaiba hadn’t seen him since he ran off. Then instead she starts going on about magic and he’s thinking well if you had magic why come to me with your brother and waves her off but she presents him with a God card, one Malik had spoken off in their duels.
He’s unaware Malik has anything to do with the rare hunters, he still hopes Malik comes to his tournament. When he comes but under Namu he’s confused but doesn’t care because he actually showed up, he set up a charging station in his room and Malik’s a little surprised but smiles when he sees it.
During Rishid’s duel where the lightnings going on and he’s freaking out, he’s actually just glitching with all the thunder, and he’s being corrupted by Yami Marik’s programming that’d been lying almost dormant but now had a shock to his system and has come back. Using the false winged dragon of Ra didn’t just glitch Kaiba’s systems, it affected Malik’s too.
Kaiba scoffs it off because he was trying to defend his duel disks systems but intentionally he was regretting not looking into that early mistake in his data with Malik. But he still thinks his system couldn’t possibly have a bug, that had to still be Malik so he doesn’t look too far into it.
Meanwhile Malik attempts to weakly project himself to Bakura using his duel disk and such things. Anzu’s phone and such, anything to help him try to talk to others as him.
Meanwhile Yami Marik’s reprogramming different things such as their clothes, deck and everything else. Trying to dispose of Rishid and all his shadow games and such. During Noah’s arc because I’m going off that verse. He’s just glitching himself around the ship but due to the lack of projectors and such he has trouble getting through Noah’s fortress deciding brute force because he knew regardless he was damn safe being digital.
During Mai’s duel he’s programmed the shadow realm and such so in this Au he’s actually quite a good programmer and stuff.
And then at the end of Yami Marik and Yami Yuugi’s duel when Malik and Yuugi switch back in, Kaiba actually installed a function that’d basically delete Yami Marik from the system if Malik gave up. Yami Marik tries to blame the Pharaoh on taking their humanity and his father but Malik sighs and shakes his head. He knows better and he feels a weight off him with Yami Marik gone from his programming—well mostly gone. He’s a  cockroach. You’ll never full delete him.
After Battle city Malik goes with Kaiba and Kaiba’s upgraded all his systems just in case. They have some fun but then he says he needs closure and goes to Egypt with his siblings because despite my opinion being his dad’s a huge jerk and all that stuff. Bleh.  He wants to give him a proper burial, he wants closure because deep down he’s still really hurt and angry and he needs this.
Which is season four, then season five. Yuugi’s gang came over and everyone assumed Seto came because Bakura told him too and slightly yeah because it’s Bakura. But also he wanted to set up a better system for Malik in Egypt. Malik smiles and thanks him between everything. Kaiba refuses to admit to it but he’s quite attached to Malik in his own way, and thus stands down to watch his ultimate rival basically battle someone else to die rather than battle him. Because deep down he knows Malik wants the Pharaoh to move on so his duty as a tomb keeper could be fulfilled.
Malik stays with Seto for a while afterwards to both help move on in life and they live not happily ever after, but you know moderately alright. Happily together, and as they go on, Seto does build that machine from DSOD but because then in the afterlife, he and Malik can be together. That or just maybe he could bring Malik back to life properly.
And that’s all I have. have fun.
Also. Rishid keeps the rod because I want him too.

do you think malik goes through periods where he's very fun and bubbly, but then like a switch he's very quiet and wants distance?
GOD YES YES THIS is exactly how I imagine him omg it makes so much sense.
First of all, YES 👏 Let 👏 Malik 👏 Be 👏 Bubbly 👏 And 👏 Loud 👏 2k21 because he DESERVES IT. He should always be happy and loud and it shouldn‘t bother Anyone
.
Okay that being said, I hc him to have a lot of trust issues, so, to get to experience his “real self” always takes a lot of time and “opening up”.
He’s not shy or an introvert, he just kind of doesn’t trust anyone except himself (and his siblings - most of all Rishid) and has been through so much shit that he keeps thinking any form of friendly approach from someone is all just a tactic to get to his vulnerable sides. (this funny fanart kind of gets my point across). And that’s exactly why he is like that too. When talking with strangers, he would go as far as being extremely polite and cheesy that you almost can’t recognise him anymore. But he’s doing it all to warm up to people and get to their weaker spots, just in case he’s going to use it against them. (see: his whole fake personality Namu-act that wasn’t even necessary for his plan to enter the Battle City finale...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To get to Malik’s real self i HC requires a lot of digging and trust - which can take a lot of time. He also seems to be quite conflicted over what he really wants, because after all that time spent analysing and manipulating people just to understand their weak spots he’s left with nothing but a constant state of being alert and ready to use it against them. And when the moment never comes - because as hard as it is to swallow down for him, some people might have genuinely just nice intentions - he realises he wasted another opportunity for making new friends and ends up being full of guilt and regret and probably a big self loathing and once again alone. Then forms the question what do you really want? to make friends or enemies? And he’s not sure he knows the answer anyway. Shit, malik’s whole character design strikes me as being conflicted since he’s a whole mixture of traditional and modern af. He seems to be quite attached to his ancient roots and the nobility of his bloodline but he also seems to want to re-invent himself into that motorcycle-driving kid who said fuck destiny i create my own. But the way he talks and puts valor into his ancient beliefs (+ his father’s earrings) clearly shows he’s far too attached to it to let it go (this leads also to the whole deal of being literally born and raised to Serve and also his whole daddy issues, but that’s another page completely).
Like you said, there are moments where he goes completely quiet and wants distance because i can see him reconsidering every step he took. As confident and self-assured as he might appear, and the end it always seems like his biggest enemy is his own self (or his other self... he might get pretty quiet and dissociates also because he’s probably conversing with his alter in his head. But his alter is also another whole deal completely.)
Just like in Kaiba, I see a constant need to prove himself to be better than anyone in everything: His dressing up as the Pharaoh and saying he has the right for the throne, his modern style and extravagant motorcycle/boat, his emphasis on making the enemies remember his name...
(see:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s all Trauma babey ✨
He seems to just live in a world where conflict prevails over everything. Every moment and every human interaction is regarded with caution and “how to get the upper hand in this” - because that’s All He’s Known His Entire Life. With the Millennium Rod he also got the power to literally read into humans’ minds (in the manga it’s all explained even better). Seeing the desperation and the desire for his wife in Pandora, the homicidal tendencies and dark past of the mime boy he uses... these were all elements he studied and gathered in his collection of “humans just want power over you”, which just increased his trust issues. Also, his tendency to punish his ghouls when they fail clearly reflects a sense of education where you get punished if you don’t succeed and plus being a capricorn this tends to make a perfectionist out of him (and it’s once again something that was ebbed into his brain as a child thanks to his father). So he strikes me as the type who is never satisfied with the end result of something because it could always be Better.
Anyway, trauma and fears aside (and he has a lot of them) he sparks me to be a very loud and extrovert boy and he would probably be shining brighter than anyone if it wasn’t for all the shit he’s been through. He is very intelligent and a fast learner (I hc him to know fluid arabic, japanese and english) and he’s a good observer and very rational. He reacts with his brain first before using his instincts, but he seems to be very driven by his emotions (since they are the reason he does literally everything). He’s ambitious and cunning but with a soft, soft heart like,, I love how the whole deal of Malik in the manga is that he literally Couldn’t bring himself to gain the full power of the Rod and kill Yugi because he’s so soft at heart. No matter how evil and controlloing he tries to be at the end he just Can’t. It was his alter who did it, who took his place in his most vulnerable moment because he literally Couldn’t take it. He would have died.
Tumblr media
“His father filled him with pain and sadness... until all he wanted was to die... So in order to survive, in order to keep going, he had to create another self...”
His alter keeps calling this weakness but it basically shows that he’s just good. He’s good at heart and he needs light in his life to survive. (The whole deal of light and shadows that is made in battle city which also includes Rishid is just so beautiful in the manga - i totally rec reading the battle city arc to you to get malik better). He’s soft at heart and this is why I can see him being a loud and bubbly person once he‘s 100% sure there are no bad intentions behind someone. Because he would be so confident and very diva-ish in his attitude of “I deserve the best and the best only”, despite having so many fears he’s battling against daily. Once he loves and trusts someone - and if that someone makes him feel his best - he would cling to them almost desperately this is how I hc him also in my fics and he would be so happy and loud about it, because it’s like FINALLY taking a Break from that “mental state” of alert and control he Has To keep up to Prove to be good. He’s finally his real self.
anyway i could talk abt this boy for hours like i could write an essay over everything regarding him because he’s one of the most complex and rich characters i’ve ever known and *bites fist* I JUST LOVE HIM AND HE DESERVES TO BE HELD SO BAD.

Screw it, I'm asking Malik Ishtar for the meme thing! (Only if you want to, of course...)
THANK YOU :D
How I feel about this character:
My secret favourite!!! I think I tend to likecharacters that are all about BIG UGLY EMOTIONS, and Malik is a lot of those, lol. For me, he’s an effective villain – both really terrible and really understandably so. I think the way he gets so energetic about pursuing the God Cards and the Pharaoh, and then gets in over his head and has to abandon ship on his own revenge, and then continues to see through his role as tombkeeper because he’s just so worn out from trying to fight it – aaaaagh! It’s so upsettingly believable.
In terms of characterisation, he’s floating around brilliant but lazy territory for me. He’s intelligent, but also an idiot, andalso all he really wants to do is ride around on his bike and sleep alone inhis room and live comfortably. He’s capable, but not very ambitious. Not much of a visionary, lol.
All the people I ship romantically with this character:
Ryou. Yuugi. Shizuka.
…well that was a very short list for me. I can also enjoy theifshipping to a certain degree, although I’m not really very interestedin it as a postcanon or endgame ship. And the potential for Malik’s torture ofMai to be sexualised is something I think is both interesting and not that farfrom its canon presentation – so I guess that may count as shipping them insome kind of messed up way. And I guess I also I find myself conceptuallyinterested in Ishtar sibling incest, but I haven’t run into any that treats thesubject matter with the kind of tone I’d like.
More on the ships though: Malik doesn’t directly interact with Yuugi or Ryou much in canon, but both ships seem to have the ability to be about softness and healing to me. Since Ryou and Malik have both experiences a violent and upsetting possession of sorts, them coming to move past that together has the potential to be pretty sweet. And since Malik has a kind of troubled relationship with ‘the Pharaoh’, and how he feels his life has been shaped by these ancient politics, I think Yuugi’s kind of in a unique place to be able to understand both the past and Atem’s journey and his ownplace in the present to be able to help Malik contextualise that in a waythat’s meaningful to him.
And Malik & Shizuka is a nice ship if what you’re going for is exploring Shizuka’s massivedisillusionment. Leaving aside the way that a nice trip to visit yourestranged brother suddenly turned upsettingly full of ugly complicated feelings and murder, I think Malik tends towards a frankness that doesn’t sit well with Shizuka's ideals. This is a fun ship~
My non-romantic OTP for this character:
Ishtar Siblings!!! Malik’s relationship with Rishid is at once so lovely and so heartbreakingly upsetting. I think they struggle to find the balance between how they see each other as siblings and how they see each other in this hierarchy of master and subordinate – the way they come through for each other at the end of the story is just so touching. And Malik and Isis aren’t as close, but I like that their conflicting values, and understanding of their responsibilities, don’t compromise their love and the desire to protect one another. Ishtar Siblings!!!
I also like Malik & Yuugi & Ryou as a BrOTP. And I have a strange interest in Malik & Jou broing out or coming to realise they can’t bro out because he murdered you and tortured your best lady friend postcanon.
My unpopular opinion about this character:
I’m not really sure what constitutes an unpopular opinion regarding Malik, but I have several that might count.
(1) The Millennium Rod only exacerbated problems hewas already having due to the effects of trauma and a shaky headspace. YamiMalik is the product of Dissociative Identity Disorder in relationship to Borderline Personality Disorder, and exists in a reactionary way to Malik rather than being a distinct person.
(2)  He’s about as culturally Egyptian as your standard Amish person can be considered culturally American. (Or, idk, I think the Hutterites are a more apt comparison in a number of ways, if I’m sticking to offshoots of Christianity. More research on different religions is needed but, in terms of daily living, you can take all sorts of cues about the tombkeepers from different isolationist religious “cults”.)
(3) He’s a deadly serious character really –cerebral and ponderous. His sense of humour is along the lines of dry andsarcastic, rather than laugh-out-loud.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
I ALSO WISH THE ISHTARS HAD BEEN IN DSOD THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
I think it would have made sense to mention them in relationship to what Seto was doing in Egypt at the very least. Seto was rooting around in Ancient Egyptian ruins that the tombkeepers had the right too, yeah? I feel like it might’ve been an interesting political/business deal he struck with the Ishtars. Maybe Isis needed money to help in the process of reintegrating the tombkeepers into above-ground society? I don’t know, but I feel like there’s a story there~
Also, it might be obvious from some of these other headcanons, but I wish the conclusion to Malik’s story had been more on the side of ‘the hate you’re feeling is valid if completely toxic’, which is why I like the idea of Yami Malik running amok in his head postcanon, even though I think the manga leaned heavily towards a canon interpretation where he was freed of Him.
my OTP:
Malik/Ryou edges out Malik/Yuugi by a little, but not by much.
my happy ending for them:
Not part of this meme, but you made me realise I wanted to write it all down~
Given my incredibly depressing diagnosis for Malik, I think managing his life will always be somewhat of a struggle. Yami Malik is probably here to stay. Malik will likely always have outbursts, and always have a cruel and violent streak. At his worst, the most I can say is that he and the people around him will be aware of the warning signs and be able to restrain him ahead of time instead of having to do so in the middle of an episode. At his best, I think Yami Malik might appear once every month or two, and just kind of storm around the house/apartment being sullen. I don’t think Yami Malik has the same kind of emotional range or needs as one would expect a completehuman to have – so he doesn’t need much more than to be acknowledged by the others and then left to his own devices. I don’t think he likes being touched, but he may someday accept a hug from Ryou or Yuugi or Isis and take a small comfort in the fact that he isn’t hated. Rishid is a lost cause, and will have to stay away during those times, because Yami Malik will without question react violently to him. I think, in a way, a direct reflection of Malik’s own desires– for his hatred and pain to be acknowledge and accepted by those around him, by all except Rishid, who Malik would most keenly like to be less hateful person for. Malik does not want Rishid to see Yami Malik, and so Yami Malik pushes Rishid away with a lot of force… potentially lethal force.
In terms of the more mundane things, I imagine Malik goes through a period where he wants to travel everywhere and see everything to kind of make up for the fact that he was confined to a dark hall his entire childhood. I think he’ll travel Africa and Europe and see more of Japan at thevery least, but who knows where his travels might take him~ But eventually Iimagine him settling down somewhere, since I don’t think his affinity fortravel is about travelling as much as its about taking in the world’s breadth. As long as he can enjoy bike rides and the wind and open sky and the company of those he likes, I think he’s fine being anywhere. He and Rishid are veryride-or-die so they’ll definitely stick together, I think. Him and Isis is moreiffy, but I’d like to see Isis and him also remain close and live close together.
In terms of a job, he’s really not into forty hour work weeks, lol. He wasn’t raised under the expectation he’d be part of a contemporary work force. And he’d additionally have trouble balancing that amount of stress with his mental healths. He’d take odd jobs here and there, or work part time in something pretty low pressure. Depending on how lucrative the limited amount of work he does is, he may or may not need to rely on his siblings or lover for support. In terms of what he does…? Tinker around a souvenir shop maybe? Or he runs errands for or does translations for the museum, through his connection with Isis?
And I don’t think he’d want kids, or make a verygood parent for that matter. He’s satisfied with being the weird uncle to his nieces and nephews.
my cross over ship:
I don’t have one, sorry~
a headcanon fact:
Hasn’t everything I’ve said thus far been me taking my own headcanons way too seriously?
Coptic, Arabic, French, Japanese. Rishid is the same, except he’s not as fluent in the last two, and also not as well studied in Ancient Egyptian scriptures. Isis is the only one of the Ishtar siblings that speaks English.
Oh, jeez, he is pretty much universally hated by his tombkeeper peers. Even when he was little he was a divisive character with how harsh and cruel he can be at times. And then he was shadily involved in the bloody murder of his father. When he left to form the Rare Hunters with Rishid, he bitterly alienated most of his extended tombkeeper family, but some of them followed him to join his crime syndicate. And then those who had followed him took poorly to the way Malik abandoned the Rare Hunters, and followed Isis back home with his tail between his legs. Literally everybody he grew up with except his siblings hates him and Malik spends the time from Battle City to the Ceremonial Duel hiding out in his room having Rishid bring him his meals because the tomb keepers are done with him and he’s done with them. And he’s technically their ‘leader’, but Isis made a bid for being de facto leader when he skipped out years earlier and, disappointed but resigned, she continues to carry the position when Malik’s returned. “She’s a great leader (even though she’s a woman),” everyone says. They all love her, lol.Rishid is more polarising, since he’s generally so mild and polite. Some of the tombkeepers see what he did as betrayal, but a lot of them view him with a sort of condescending pity and kindness - poor boy, led astray by his association with Master Malik. This makes Malik even more angry. ‘We are brothers and equals!!’ he yells. Even though he isn’t completely free of blame when it comes to treating Rishid as lesser.
Also, it’s totally canon that somewhere along the line he makes some big fuss and his criminal record from being involved with the Rare Hunters gets dragged out of the closet, and the Egyptian Government tells him to gtfo of our country… right?

Yu-Gi-Oh: Brilliancy (28)
Her name is Clarisa Swansea. She was born in Hong Kong to a wealthy yet loving family, a father, mother, and two older sisters. A competitive beast in women’s lacrosse with a pretty face to match, there was no mistaking that she was striving for greatness far beyond any expectations. But, when one accident took her family along with her mobility, her life took an intriguing turn into the world of chess.
This was a mess. Clarisa was sure that there would be medical issues in a tournament of this kind but she didn’t think that it would result in two comas. Kaiba was just lucky that her father provided medical staff. Kaiba’s doctor was already struggling for diagnosis. He didn’t need to worry about hooking them up on top of trying to find an answer to their conditions.
“I’m going to stay here and watch over him.” She had told the group when they were summoned for the lottery. “If he wakes up, I can ask him a few questions about our new found friend.”
“Are you sure?” Jounouchi inquired. “I figured Kaiba would want you to be where he can see you.”
“If anything, he probably wants to be rid of me for a few minutes. An entire duel without me harping into his ear might give him some relief.” Clarisa flashed him an encouraging smile, waving the group off.
“Hey! Hey, Jounouchi?” Mai had called to him while Clarisa was observing the doctors work. “Can I ask you something?”
“Hm? What is it?”
“The dream you saw…” She replied. “I was in it too, right? With everyone?”
There was a heavily pregnant pause that followed. Though she didn’t want to eavesdrop, Clarisa couldn’t help but turn her head slightly, her blue grey eyes narrowing slightly.
“W-Well…You know…My dream took place in our classroom so, of course you weren’t in it! You’re too old to be in high school!” Clarisa’s head turned slowly, her jaw dropping with every ramble that came out of Jounouchi’s throat. His face was flushed, limbs flailing, and the hole he was digging became wider and wider with each passing second. After a few painfully slow seconds, he was out the door with Anzu hot on his tail.
Mai, however, looked crestfallen.
“What the fuck?” Clarisa hadn’t intended to say anything but the words flew out faster than she realized. Mai’s golden head turned, her violet eyes wide in surprise. Their eyes met.
“I’m so sorry…” She murmured to Mai apologetically. “That must have hurt…”
“It’s fine…” Mai snapped back, her gaze becoming steely. “I don’t need them…”
She departed from the room, her heels angrily clacking on the metal floor. Clarisa started to wonder if she should have said something more to assure Mai. She didn’t have time to dwell on the situation as both the doctor and Charles came in.
“Shall we go up to the deck, Miss Risa?” Charles inquired, his hands tucked behind his back. Clarisa shook her head, leaning back in her chair.
“I’m going to stay here. If this guy wakes up, I want to ask him about Mr. Malik.”
“Oh?” Charles’ brow rose. “What are you interested in knowing?”
“It’s pretty clear he has a mental disorder.” She sighed softly. “That and I want to know if he has any more information on what Malik’s plan is for this tournament. If anyone is going to know anything, it would probably be him.”
She looked over at the fallen man, the doctor triple checking his IVs. It was then that Clarisa took the time to analyze the tattoo on the man’s face.
“That doesn’t look like any tattoo that I’ve ever seen…” She mused aloud.
“That’s because it’s scarification.” Charles replied sullenly. “Cuts are made into the shape you want and dirt and ash are rubbed in to create that effect.”
“Sounds unpleasant.” Her face hurt with phantom pains.
“I wouldn’t recommend it for children’s birthday parties for sure.” A smile tugged at the edge of her lips from Charles’ remark.
About ten minutes had passed and the doctor had finished his checks. He informed Clarisa that she would be able to stay with the man only if she was quiet and didn’t disturb him. She agreed and the lights were dimmed as he slid past the metal doors. There was a slight beep indicating that he locked the door behind him.
“Do you need anything to entertain yourself, Miss Risa?” Charles whispered, still standing at attention. She shook her head, taking a hold of the man’s chart sitting at the edge of the nightstand.
“This will do for now.” She flipped through the pages. “We could play ‘I Spy’ if you wanted to.”
“I see something brown.” Clarisa scowled, mouth forming a hard line.
“If it’s him, I’m going to smack you.” His cheeky grin gave him away but he was too far for her to reach.
The door slid open. Charles and Clarisa looked up and a darkly cloaked figure entered the room. Clarisa could feel dread starting to froth up in her stomach.
“What are you doing here?” She hissed, closing the chart with a snap of papers. Malik’s lips split into a fearsome smile.
“I could say the same about you.” He moseyed in the room, his dark cloak swishing behind him. His footsteps advanced closer to the unconscious man. Clarisa clicked up her breaks to intervene but Charles met him first.
“I’m going to ask you to step outside.” He stated sternly. “You do not have permission to be here.”
Malik didn’t speak one word and lifted the rod he carried to face the mountain of a man. The eye in the center glowed gold, an aura pulsating around Charles before slamming him into the side wall. Clarisa could feel hear heart begin to race as her body guard crashed to the floor.
Still smiling, Malik returned his focus to the man, taking a step forward. Clarisa went into action, swiftly rolling herself in the way to block his path.
“I believe my body guard told you to leave.” She spat, her eyes narrowing.
“You truly are a nuisance…” The back of his hand connected with her face, knocking her so hard that her ears rang. She wasn’t sure if it was that or the second strike that knocked her out of her chair. Reeling from the pain, she heard a few clinks of metal and saw a shimmering point at the end of his Millennium Rod. It was blurry at first but her vision came into focus when she noticed the knife edge dangling mere millimeters from the patient’s head.
Without thinking, Clarisa scrambled to the side, taking hold of the grey fabric and pulling as hard as she could. Malik choked, falling back on himself just as Charles sprang up and put him in a choke hold.
“The third match of the tournament! Mai Kujaku’s opponent is Malik Ishtar! Both participants, please report to the Aerial Duel Ring!”
That was all Clarisa could hear from Isono following a brief struggle and the slamming of the sliding door. Her heart was beating wildly in her chest and she could feel her temples pounding, blood pooling into a bruise on her cheek.
“Miss Risa?” Charles cooed, taking the woman into his arms. “Are you alright?”
“F-Fine…” She stammered, feeling herself becoming light headed. As if on cue, she could feel a smile tugging at her lips.
“That was really stupid of you.” He scolded, lifting her back up into her chair. “You know better than to put yourself in front of people like that.”
“As if you didn’t expect me to do that on principle.” She retorted, wincing. “At least with me in the way, he would have another body and a metal chair to go through before getting to Rishid.”
“Rishid?” Charles’ brow furrowed.
“I read his chart.” Clarisa mumbled. Her fingers lifted, tentatively poking at her face to assess the damage. It definitely stung with the newly forming bruise. Charles grimaced, air hissing through his teeth.
“I’ll go and get the doctor to look at that…and an ice pack.”
“I think I saw a kitchen on board so, if you can find a bag of frozen peas, that would be even better.” She watched his brows rise skeptically but he nodded in response. The metal doors slid open and Charles dashed down the hallway. Clarisa could hear the airlock hiss and the keypad beeping. She thought she would feel comforted when they locked but the anxiety of Malik returning unexpectedly weighed in on her mind.
Slowly, Clarisa glanced back at Rishid, a wash of confusion overcoming her mind. He seemed to honorable when he dueled, so much so that Jounouchi and Yugi were incredibly kind when speaking about him. If that was the case, how on earth could someone like him have gotten involved with a man like Malik?
It was a story that Clarisa was dying to know and one that she was certain she would find out as the bodies began to pile up.
