Turning my DBAL D2 into the world's most overpriced front sight (Railscales LEAF)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's actually roughly the same height as a standard M4 FSB (photos for comparison, this laser goes to my 11.5" build) Though there's no elevation adjustment obviously
Need to look into folding rear sights that have elevation adjustment Was thinking a KAC 600M BUIS, but open to suggestions

Anyone else here run a Railscales LEAF front sight? If you didn’t already know what these are, they are a standard hieght fixed front sight that is specifically contoured to fit between the laser and illuminator on a PEQ15 to allow the user to mount the aiming device as far up on the rail as possible without the front sight obstucting the lasers. MWI recently tried to (rather poorly, IMO) copy this design and took a lot of flak for it.
(The photo above shows a top down view of my Mk18 upper with the LEAF sight installed.)

One of the best ways I've found to get good force on force training at night under NVG's is airsoft. Out of all the platforms out there, one has stood out to me as being the oldest, most supported platforms out there. The Systema Professional Training Weapon goes out of its way to most accuratly simulate the dimensions of a real firearm. It also being the oldest system out there in terms of training weapons, it has the most after market support. I really enjoy the asthetic of LaRue AR style rifles. I was first introduced to them from the game "Medal of Honor: Warfighter" and fell in love with the look as well as the fact that it was a semi auto tack driver. Since then I've been sourcing reproduction parts to try and get that LaRue look on some of my airsoft guns. There were some reproduction front rails many years ago, but have long since gone out of production. Unfortunatly, they function like a Daniel Defense RIS II, and don't actually bolt onto the upper like the real deal. Pictured below is my first build based on a WE Katana, then the first PTW upper, or the Mod1, with the Mod2 on top.
Tumblr media
Since I had completed my "Night Fight" AR build earlier this year, using a LaRue Stealth 2.0 upper, I figured it was time to make a TW version. Since there is no LaRue uppers for the PTW platform, one would have to be made. Because of the spec of the PTW lowers, its actually quite a bit simpler than it sounds. An order to LaRue later and a brand new Stealth 2.0 upper was at my door. Getting in contact with a friend with a milling machine made boring out the upper to accept a PTW cylinder allowed me to then mate the upper and the lower with just a little bit of dremmel work to the upper for the takedown pins.
Tumblr media
Once there was a working upper that would accept PTW internals, the next challenge would be to match the 11.5 barrel length, as well as some of the particular things such as the Dbal i2 that I have on the real pistol. Thanfully, I was able to find an 11.5" outer barrel from Iron Airsoft, and the Dbal A2 clone that came with the Railscales Leaf. Within reason, this is the closest I could get to a Dbal i2 without actually purchasing one.
Tumblr media
The Reproduction EXPS 3-0 and AAC 51t blackout flash hider were easy to source.

The final build with its real life counterpart.
Tumblr media
There are some concessions made because of the limitations of the drivetrain. One thing is the fact that the same pistol grip could not be used. The PTW motor is meant to fit within a standard A2 style pistol grip. Because of this, there is not BCM gunfighter grip for the PTW. This was swapped out for a Magpul MOE grip. Another change was the fact that the PTW has a stock, instead of a pistol brace. The final change is the lack of anti-rotation pins. Because there are no pins on the PTW, its not really needed.
Tumblr media
Overall I think the project came out great. I will be making a review between a Dbal i2, the G&P Dbal a2, this new Dbal A2, and maybe a few more down the road.
