Beretta 92FS, civilian designation for the US Military Beretta M9 service weapon, sometimes designated as the “9mm,” “Semi-automatic,” “M9,” or simply “The Pistol.” The Beretta M9 replaced the older, higher-caliber M1911A1 (also known as the “Colt 1911″) in 1985. The M9 is a semi-automatic, short-recoil, single action / double action pistol. Standard issue comes with an anti-corrosive coating called Brunition. There are three later updated production-variants, designated the M9A1, M9A3, and M9A4.

Beretta M9 vs 92FS: Iconic Firearms Compared
When discussing the legacy of firearms, the names Beretta M9 and 92FS unmistakably stand out. Both pistols have earned their reputation through military service, law enforcement roles, and gaining widespread popularity among civilians. These iconic guns share a significant amount of similarities due to their shared lineage. Their classic Beretta design, characterized by sleek lines and durability, is evident. Yet, differences such as the M9's straight backstrap versus the 92FS's curved backstrap can be influential in handling and shooting comfort.
