I think people are yet again hating on disney for the wrong reasons. Disney is not pushing any 'woke' agenda on anyone, what they are doing though is using these 'woke' things for money. That's why you get these 'strong independent women' tropes in their remakes rather than disney actually putting effort to modernize and address the poorly age tropes they put in their work. That's why they add lgbt representation but either as a thing the audience doesn't notice or censors to keep homophobic countries money. That's why they raceswap the characters into their remakes without actually using it to tell the story in a different way (e.g, tell the story through the characters culture) instead of telling the same story with very little changes or even address their racism previously (e.g, the crows in the dumbo remake being completely gone) and with the new snow white movie coming up, its gonna be the same thing where the story would probably rehash jasmines plot from the alladin remake onto snow white and would be this 'strong independence feminist' movie without actually deconstructing the negative tropes of snow white into a feminist modern work.
Remember, these companies do not care about any agenda, only the money.

anyway i thought rachel zelger's interpretation of lucy's singing voice was absolutely the highlight of the film, and i do find it truer to what i initially imagined when reading the book than maiah wynne's interpretation. i also think dave cobb was the right choice to make the songs sit right within the genre. HOWEVER. i will forever be in love with and in awe of maiah's songs and they are probably going to continue to be the 'real' versions of the songs for me fhskdhdkdhjdd

THE HUNGER GAMES THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES MOVIE SPOILERS
So I watched the TBOSAS movie today & I have thoughts. It is good as its own thing I think they did a great job to put the most important things into this one movie. Since they couldn't squeeze everything in the movie it took some liberties to cut off & change moments around a bit.
I think the changes they made to how the 10th hunger games play out was a great change. And I loved that they kept the violence.
The movie didn't show any of Coriolanus inner monologues which is a shame it's my favorite part of the book but having the audience come out and interpret how Coryo feels themselves isn't so bad either since Tom Blyth's portrayal as Coriolanus snow was magnificent.
The movie focused more on Coriolanus relationship with the prominent characters & sadly cut a lot of interactions with his other classmates. Especially Clemensia we don't hear or see her again after she gets the snake bite or even if she's still alive.
The chemistry between Tom Blyth & Rachel Zelger was amazing it really shines through to their character's relationship. Regarding the snowbaird relationship they added a new moment that wasn't in the book replacing a scene in the book. We got only one kiss from them in the movie contrary to the many kisses in the book.
The last part in the forest cabin between Coriolanus & Lucy Gray felt really tense like they were about to kill each other right there & then I loved it. Tom Blyth's performance really shined through this part, the hurt & betrayal he felt after he got bit made him look scary.
The fate of Lucy Gray was left as ambiguous as it was in the book. But we clearly get to see Coriolanus shoot her down but nothing more other than the birds singing the hanging tree which paranoid him. I wished they addressed the part where they erased the records of the 10th hunger games but it wasn't mentioned.
The ending showing Coriolanus full transformation to a villain was chilling I can really feel he carried a different vibe then what he was like in the beginning of the movie.
Overall a great film to show the beginning of the hunger games & how it developed to what we know it as down the line. A villain origin story showcasing how Coriolanus experiences shape him & how he rose to power. Like Coriolanus said snow lands on top.

everytime i see someone shit on rachel zelger for saying she didn't like how women were portrayed in a movie from 1937 that has the main plot point of essentially abuse and assault to a young woman, i feel immense wrath in ways i'm yet to be able to describe

Both hearing Rachel Zelger cast and dropped from Snow White on the same day has been hilarious.
This morning , I got my first understanding of the info from my husband, who was watching a Disney documentary. Spiraling into a Google search to discover the new live-action leading lady's identity.
And Rachel Zelger?@?
I'm not one for gatekeepers of cosplay characters. You can & should be able to become anyone or anything. BBBBUTTTT!!! If we can agree that a character described with certain features should be cast with them, for every race. Then I mean a princess who is literally named for having skin as white as snow. Should have white skin!
Snow whites description has always been specific. Black hair. Red lips. And snow white skin.
She could be Asian, and she could be Hispanic. The important thing is 'skin as white as snow.' The choice of casting could provide so much inclusion & spark so many beautiful conversations. But untrue to the character should never have been how they cast it.
Rachel was untrue to that character.
And she proved it by how she spoke of the legacy. Spit on it more like. Talking about updating the character, so she isn't dependent on a man for success.
As so many others have pointed out that's been done with this character. If you really want to show us something new in the role, show us how Snow White inspired her mind and that of the dwarves. She didn't just clean. She educated them. (Yes, I know Snow is a teacher in Once Upon a Time. Not everything in Disney can be new>.<)
Or! Maybe let her be Inventive, but uninterested in leaving the house. She's a self love, home is where the heart is. There's no reason to leave, kind of woman. The exact opposite of Rapunzel. Show us the adventure in getting out of your own way!!!
Disney! Please!!!! Don't blow this one. There are so many beautiful traditional messages in Snow White that could be brought out for conversation for a new audience!!!!! Please, please, please get it right.

Is it just me or is the hate of rachel zelger grew way out of proportion? Like okay, i understand that shes clearly misinformed about the movie (because the prince clearly didn't stalk snow white) and people have their right not to like her although are we really gonna say shes like the evil queen than snow white? Pardon me? Shes neither of them, especially when the characters are clearly symbols (snow white representing goodness which is often associated with kindness, pureness, innocence and the evil queen representing evilness by her jealously as envy is a part of the 7 rings of sin), meant to represent the moral of the story than explore the characters fully (which makes sense because it was originally a fairy tale) and if were going off the implications of that and the assumption that she hates the snow white movie from the 30s, why would she be jealous of it? Like genuinely the evil queen doesn't have much of a character besides being envious and evil so if were going off characterization, how tf does she fit into it?
And with the misinformation thing, keep this in mind that while its still misinfo, she is not a director nor a writer for the movie, she is merely an leading actress for snow white who from the interview, seems to be hyping up the movie (for money, for genuine appreciation, who knows). The actual head director of the movie is marc webb, which means out of everyone in the production, he should be the one who knows about the 30s movie (or at least the 1812 fairy tale that their apparently adapting by), what the actress says is not related to the head director and just because she may not get the movie doesnt mean its the same for the head director. Now does that mean the movie would be good? Idk, i predict it wouldnt bebecause of the live action remakes having a reputation of being the renaissance of the Disney sequel era where they would produce cheap films related to their previous work for a quick buck but if were going to blame anyone for the issues people have with the movie, you might as well blame the head director or corporation rather than a worker of the film just doing their job (and yes, i argue hyping up the film is somewhat part of it given how we've seen actresses do it before regardless of what their actual stance on the movie/media that their in is/what the movie/media quality is for audiences). And while you can argue that how shes hyping it up didn't work because it didn't and i do see how people can dislike her (and i don't even know her until people were talking about what she said about the 30s movie), I personally think its an overreaction that we should just go seek out actual modern retellings of stories that put in effort or even create our own retellings instead.
Although if i'm seriously wrong here, please let me know. I would like to have a discussion about this.

no offense to anon but romeo and juliet productions are common. There is literally a juliet musical going on right now, there is also another broadway production of R+j coming in the fall along with the rachel zelger r + j musical. I also dont think people will compare the two since there completely different productions one is literally a musical. The only comparsions will be done by racists but thats a while other issue of anti blackness.
I genuinely think rachel zelger is excited for fran not everything is strategic its just one person hyping another person.
Yea, same Anon. I agree. 👍🏾 😊
Actors CAN support each other without it being some ulterior motive behind it.
I know, it's hard to believe sometimes, but it can happen! 😅
For what it's worth, Rachel and Halle also supported each other as well... probably because they both play Disney princesses in live action films and received insane hate and racism due to it.
