Pretty Little Psycho.
A Nevada Ramirez and Nettie Perez Story. Part Four.
Part One - Part Two - Part Three Masterlist
Summery: Nettie worries while being stuck in the hospital, and for good reason. Word Count: 1,390 Warnings: violence, cursing, panic attack. POV jumps.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nevada:
As he watched the girl lay there on the bed in front of him, Nevada couldn’t help but felt a pang in his chest. Nettie had come close to losing her life, why? Because she was seen with him, because his enemies were trying to hurt him? Wouldn’t be the first time this happened.
“mierda(shit)…” he mumbled and stood up. Running a hand through his hair, Nevada looked at Miguel. “I need you to stay around and keep an eye on her. OK?” he told the guy who nodded.
“OK but… jefe(boss), what if someone tries to stop by?” Miguel asked, obviously curious and oblivious at the same time.
“mira aquí(look here) the only people who should show up here are Camila and Dalvin from the café shop. Her family is dead from the information that was pulled up. So. No one comes in here unless it’s the fucking nurse and doctor! ¿Lo entiendes?(you understand?)” he spat at the man in front of him who nodded and kept his mouth shut.
Leaving the hospital room, Nevada left the building and pulled out a cigar. Lighting it up, he took in a long drag before looking around. Nothing unusual. Heading to his car, where his men were waiting. Nevada got in and didn’t look back at the hospital. It would be the last time he would see the girl. He couldn’t help but feel as if this happened was because of him.
The information he had pulled up about Nettie wasn’t too much. Just the usual records and how every single person in her family was dead aside from her.
Sending a message to one of his men, telling them to go to the girls' house to fix up anything broken. Nevada couldn’t help but feel a weird sensation in his stomach and chest as they drove away from the hospital. Shaking his head and continuing to smoke his cigar, Nevada asked them to drive him home so he could rest and forget about the last few days.
Nettie:
By the time she was finally coming to from her sleep like state, it had been two weeks since the attack. Not that Nettie knew that of course, she only remembered a strange dream and knows of how dry her mouth felt. With a groan, she tried to move but found herself slowly fall back asleep. Nurses were rushed in and Nettie could feel them messing with her, but she just didn’t have the strength to stay awake.
Never seeing the man in her room who watched the whole thing happen and was quick to deliver the message to Nevada that she had woken up.
By the next time Nettie woke up, it was a day later, and she found that waking up was a lot easier this time around. With a nurse walking into the room as she was trying to sit up, the older women rushed over to help Nettie. “Careful sweetie… you took quick a kick to the head and plenty of stitches.” She spoke and Nettie just felt like her head was throbbing.
“Hum… I- I don… “but her throat felt as if was filled with cotton and each time she tried to speak, it felt worse and worse. Like it was being scratched and trying to be ripped open from the inside.
Once a cup of water was almost drowned, bit Nettie was sure to drink slowly. Small sips until the cup she held was empty.
“Good! Now, just stay there and relax. A doctor should be by soon to check on you.” Nurse Elizabeth smiled kindly to Nettie, who just nodded and with the help from the nurse before leaving. Nettie was sitting up against the pillows behind her. She tried to remember what had happened to her.
Remembering the run in with Nevada, the cleaning of her home and going out to eat. It was going back home that things became blurry.
Looking around her hospital room, Nettie took in the flowers sitting beside the bed They were gorgeous and she found herself shocked to see them. There were quite a few flowers around her room now that she was actually paying attention to her surroundings.
When the nurse returned, Nettie asked the question that had been bothering her. “Why am I in my own room? I... I can’t afford this.” she told the nurse and felt the worry bubble up in her. She was scared. Nervous. Surely the money Nevada stoked away in her bag wouldn’t cover the hefty hospital bill she would be getting.
“Don’t worry about that. The man who brought you in already took care of everything.”
Only that just made Nettie worry even more. Who the hell brought her to the hospital?
Panicking, she didn’t even notice the heart monitor that she was hooked up to starting to pick up. A tear made its way down her cheek. The only thing Nettie noticed was the way her throat felt like it was closing up as she gasped for air and like the room was closing in on her. Her body was shaking with fear, wondering if they were back. Memories of her attack came back like flashes in her mind.
The nurse quickly jumped into action when noticing what was happening and tried to help the girl calm down. Though nothing worked.
Miguel’s POV:
Looking into the room, the man who was told to be kept on watch. He frowned. Seeing Nettie panic, the look of sheer horror in her eyes, as if she was in some kind of danger. Not that he blamed the girl, no. Miguel had a feeling that she was worried about what had happened and being in the hospital alone, well. He didn’t blame her. After watching the nurse give the girl a sedative, Miguel felt sick.
Grabbing his phone, he sent a message to Nevada.
‘jefe(boss), she’s not doing too good. Had to be medicated. Maybe you should come down and tell her she has nothing to worry about?’
Once the text was sent to Nevada, Miguel paced around the hallway. None of the nurses, doctors or securities bothered him. They knew who put him there to guard the girl's door. Though he went down the hall and turned the corner, finding the vending machine and got himself some snacks. Now that Nettie was drugged up to sleep, he would have nothing to do... again.
Hearing a nurse ask a man who he was and why he was on their floor. Miguel dropped his snacks and rushed over to Nettie’s hospital room.
There before him was a white man with greying hair, clean shaven and an expensive suit. “I’m her father. I got word that she’s been hospitalized.”
“I suggest you leave.” Miguel spoke up, stepping into the room. Eyes narrowed as he eyed the man. “Her whole family are dead.” he added, the nurse gasped and went to call security as the unknown man pulled a gun and started to shoot at Miguel and the nurse.
As a bullet hit his arm, Miguel was able to pull out his own gun with his other unarmed arm and killed the guy. “cabrón!(fucker)” he yelled and dropped his gun and gripped at his bleeding arm.
Breathing heavily, nurses, doctors and secutiry came rushing in and Miguel was on the phone with Nevada. Telling him what had happened.
“¿Qué diablos quieres decir con que tuviste que matar a alguien?!(what the hell do you mean you had to kill someone?)” Trujillo yelled on the other end, grumbling on about how he would be there soon.
As they hung up, Miguel was both stitched and bandaged. The man sat beside Nettie in her room, making sure he was facing the door. Already worried for what Nevada was going to do when arriving. He almost let some guy kill Nettie.
“Dios mío(my god)....” he groaned, already hearing his boss nearing.
“Well, Miguel! Want to explain to me just how Nettie here almost died... if you’ve been watching her the whole time!” Nevada demanded to know and Miguel refused to meet his eyes. “I mean... there’s a bathroom here in the room for you to use! Food is sent to you three times a fucking day! What more do you want?”
Though when Miguel went to answer, Nevada told him to just get out and go home. Which was what Miguel did.

A Hard Lesson in Discord: Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Authors’ Note: Happy Saturday!! What will Ashtonja say to Rafael and Natalia’s proposal of adopting her? Read on and find out!! Thank you so much for the comments and likes and reblogs on last night’s first chapter! It is really meaningful, especially when you tell us your thoughts!! Keep them coming and @rauliskafan and I hope you enjoy this chapter!!
           “Here she comes.”
Leaving the window, Natalia started to settle on the sofa when she saw Rafael pacing near the bar, still wearing the suit from his day at Hogan Place. He thought it best to start catching up on some of the many things he missed while out of the loop. The Chief said it was only a matter of time…
…but Natalia knew that the worried steps he took now had nothing to do with his job.
           “Are you okay?” she asked.
“I… guess I am just a little nervous,” he admitted. “I… I hope this doesn’t… you know. Offend her or anything.”
“Why would you think that, Atticus?”
“Because she was… I mean she still is someone else’s daughter.”
And Natalia knew he still felt responsible for his witness slipping away in more ways than one. Her hands found his shoulders, and she kissed his cheek.
“You… we will help her to remember that,” Natalia promised. “But she can have this, too.”
To that, he smiled and returned her kiss.
“I still need a quick drink,” Rafael said. Natalia ran her fingers down his back and called out for Ashtonja when she heard the door open.
           “Ash?”
Natalia watched and waited until the girl appeared, dropping her bag.
           “What’s up?” Ashtonja asked.
Smiling, Natalia waved her over when Ashtonja hesitated in the doorway.
“Is there… like a problem or something?” Ashtonja asked.
           “Why would you say that?”
The sound of Rafael’s voice as he poured out a scotch seemed to startle the girl, and Natalia grabbed her hand.
           “Ashtonja, don’t be---”
“If you both want to talk to me… must mean I’ve done something wrong.”
“No, no, no!” Natalia insisted, winding an arm around the girl’s shoulders as they sat.
“Not a thing,” Rafael reiterated, finishing his drink before he perched on the edge of the coffee table with his elbows on his thighs, his fingers folded together. “But we do want to talk. It’s important.”
“Wait… is this about the Fourth Harold?” Ashtonja asked, and Natalia saw Rafael’s green eyes grow wide.
“A Fourth Harold?” he echoed. A small smile played across Natalia’s lips. She pictured her husband imagining another hippo to go with Harold, Jr. and Harold III. No doubt Rafael thought that if this was truly on the table, Ashtonja would require something closer to the original recipe Harold… and as spacious as the townhouse was…
“Yeah,” Ashtonja continued, rolling her eyes. “V says I need a hippo, too.”
“Well do… do you want one?” Rafael asked, and Ashtonja released a little laugh.
“No offense to V or any of the hippos, but like it’s really not my style.”
Spying a wave of relief wash over Rafael’s face, Natalia playfully tapped her toes to his and drew Ashtonja a little nearer.
“No offense taken,” Natalia said. “Harolds aren’t for everyone.”
“Right?” Ashtonja agreed. “Like I’m sorry, but I don’t think Hazel really digs hers.”
“Well the fact that she keeps tossing it out of her crib is kind of a dead giveaway,” Rafael agreed, his tone dry. Natalia watched them share a smile, and she inhaled a small breath.
“Okay,” she started. “So the Fourth Harold is out.”
“Thank God for that,” Rafael muttered.
“But,” Natalia said, shooting him a sharp glance, “it is sweet that Violetta doesn’t want you to feel left out of anything.”
           “Yeah,” Ashtonja said. “Nice.”
Looking to Rafael one more time, Natalia saw him completely recovered from the hippo shock, and she took hold of Ashtonja’s hand again.
“Plus, it kind of cuts to the heart of the matter,” she continued. Ashtonja appeared confused as their eyes and locked, and Natalia just tightened her grip.
“Ashtonja, I… I asked you something on Christmas Eve,” Natalia said. “Are you… you are happy here with us? Right?”
“Sure,” Ashtonja muttered, averting her eyes and pulling her hand from Natalia’s. Slumping over slightly, she stared at the floor, and Natalia exchanged another look with her husband. Had she… had they entirely misread the situation? Was it possible that Ashtonja, while happy to have a roof over her head, saw their home as little more than a stopover to wherever life would lead her next? Was she counting the days until it all came to a close?
“Well, we… we want you to be happy,” Natalia said. “And if there’s anything else that we could do to make you---”
           “Ashtonja? Hey. Are you…?”
Rafael’s voice trailed off as they both looked at the girl trying and failing to blink back her tears. Instinctively, Natalia reached for her face. She shuddered some when Ashtonja flinched and looked to Rafael for guidance. At first, he shrugged his shoulders, but then he looked as if a lightbulb clicked to life. In that sudden glow, he reached for his pocket square, the silver-gray speckled with white leaves. He cleared his throat and held the spoils from his suit so close to Ashtonja. Even as she accepted the gift worlds’ away from a hippo, even as she tried to dry her eyes, she lost the battle and broke down into more tears than any of Rafael’s accessories could every capture.
“Oh, sweetheart,” Natalia said, folding the girl into her arms, and sighing softly when she did not resist. “We’re sorry. Was it something that we said?”
“Had to be the hippo,” Rafael said. “Sometimes they make me want to cry.” Natalia hissed, and he held up his hands, looking apologetic when Ashtonja suddenly clung to her neck.
           “It’s not what you… I mean it is… it… it’s just…”
Her sobbing started anew, and Natalia rubbed her back, kissing the top of her head while she kept glancing at Rafael. He looked sick, like he’d rather hear any sound than the girl’s weeping, and Natalia nodded when Ashtonja’s head suddenly shot up.
“Ash?” Natalia whispered. “What is it?”
She sniffled a few times before blowing her nose with the pocket square.
           “I… I’m sorry,” she blubbered.
“Honey, there’s nothing to be sorry for,” Natalia swore.
“And it… it was nice that V wanted me to have my own Harold.”
For a second Rafael hung his head, but just as quickly he straightened his shoulders and held Ashtonja’s other hand.
“It could be arranged,” he said. “Whatever that you want, Ashtonja.”
           “I… what I want… doesn’t matter.”
“But it does!” Natalia said. “Anything---”
“It won’t happen,” she said. “I’m not like V. Or Hazel or Holly. Maggie’s baby is gonna have the good genes. I’m just like a guest.”
“We’ve never thought of you like that, Ash,” Natalia promised, cupping Ashtonja’s chin in her hands, needing to make this right.
“That’s… that’s nice,” Ashtonja said, blowing her nose again. Her eyes glazed over, and her features started to grow hard as she inched towards the other end of the sofa. “But… it doesn’t change anything. I’m not really part of the family.”
           “Would you like to be?”
Rafael cut right to the point, and Ashtonja said nothing as he reached for her hands.
“Ashtonja, you already are part of this family,” he said. “And Natalia and I… we want to make it official.”
“Official?” Ashtonja choked out, her voice trembling.
“If… if you’ll have us,” Natalia told her. “We want to adopt you.”
The air in the room froze. Ashtonja gasped, the pocket square at her mouth hardly stifling the sound. Her eyes darted between Rafael and Natalia, and when she finally dropped the silver lined with leaves, her lip quivered.
“Ashtonja?” Rafael carefully asked, abandoning the coffee table to kneel before the sofa.
“Are you alright?” Natalia asked. “We weren’t trying to take you by surprise or anything. We just---”
She stopped speaking when the sound of Ashtonja’s sob filled the room. Would she fall apart on the spot? Was this the wrong---?
           “It’s… it’s the only…”
The girl took a few seconds to catch her breath. Natalia draped an arm around her once more, and Rafael retrieved the pocket square to wipe the fallen tears from her cheeks.
“It’s… I mean… I want to be your daughter… like more than anything in the world.”
Natalia felt her own tears spill, and she pulled Ashtonja into a hug, whispering into her hair.
“Us, too,” Natalia murmured. “So what do you say?”
“It’s… it’s really just some paperwork,” Rafael said. “Nothing that---”
“No,” Ashtonja cut in. “It’s… it’s really everything.”
Natalia’s eyes brimmed with tears, and Rafael’s green eyes glistened as he held them both.
“To us, too,” he said. “We… Ashtonja, we love you. All of us. And we would never try to… we only…”
His speech stalled, and Natalia took up where he left off.
“The past had doesn’t have to disappear,” she said. “But we… we can’t picture a future if you’re not a part of it.”
A few more tears left her eyes, and Natalia mopped up what she could with the pocket square.
Finally, Ashtonja breathed deeply, her smile broad.
           “How… how soon?” she asked.
“Very soon,” Rafael promised, scrubbing a hand over his face and shifting modes. “We have to call Trevor Langan.”
           “Who’s that?” Ashtonja asked.
“The lawyer who helped Liv with Noah,” Rafael informed her. “The man needs to work his magic a second time around.”
“Really no need. This… this is…”
Ashtonja looked like she might cry again, but she stayed calm. Holding Natalia’s hand, she linked it to Rafael’s, her fingers surrounding their joined palms.
“This is so much magic all at once. Thank you.”
Natalia’s head fell to the girl’s shoulder, and Rafael pulled them both into his arms. They stayed like that for several seconds. Until…
           “And, Ash?” he asked.
“If you really would like a hippo, we---”
“I’m good showing the twins… showing my sisters how to play with theirs. Especially Hazel.”
No more tears. The room erupted with laughter.
           Which was magical.

*** ABOUT OCs ***
Tell me about them!! I will need a lot of information about them if I am going to be writing about them! It can be embarrassing at times to talk about our OCs, but don’t be embarrassed about it! I’d love to hear about them and write about them.
I can’t talk with you for hours and hours about your OC, but I will need basic things like background info, physical characteristics and appearance, personality traits, teammates, etc.
If your OC causes another canon character to act too OOC, I may suggest we tweak some things to get the story right.
I won’t be able to write more than 1 or 2 OCs in-depth in the story. While other OCs may be mentioned in passing, such as family, they won’t be as fleshed out or as featured as the main OC you’ve chosen for the story. Exceptions are 3-person and 4-person teams.
Note: I reserve the right to refuse any commission without an explanation.

When You Were Mine.
A Rafael Barba One-Shot
So I’ve been obsessed with Hamilton lately, cause come on. Its amazing. So, I took three songs... Congratulations, First Burn and Burn annnnnd I made THIS! I hope you enjoy this. much love!!
Warning: Spanish, its sad. Our Rafi is a cheater. SMH
Tumblr media
Looking at the pictures in her hands, she walked towards his office, wanting to get to the bottom of this whole thing. Hoping that it was all a lie, a silly and idiotic lie that someone came up with. Surely, Rafael wouldn’t cheat on her. Not like this. He wouldn’t do to Adeline what Yelina did to him.
As she neared the office, she froze. Carmen wasn’t at her desk. Walking over to the office door, Adeline stopped when she was about to knock.
“What am I gonna do Liv? Surely Adeline saw the paper already.” She heard the voice of her fiancé. “I told him he had nothing on me! But he did… this guy has been following me around for almost a year!”
Looking down at the newspaper in her hand, Adeline felt her eyes tear up.
“Well… clearly, you have invented a new kind of stupid, Rafael.” Liv spoke up. “A damage you can’t undo, kind of stupid…” Adeline could practically hear the smirk appearing on Olivia’s face. “Truly, you didn’t think this through… kind of stupid! I mean you told the people threatening you and your position here to go ahead and post whatever they had on you? You should have sent it to the post and written it all yourself.”
“Look! I made a mistake! Ok? I know that!”
“Yeah well, we all begged you to take a break, Raf. You refused to.” Liv sighed and stood up.
Adeline quickly turned around and rushed out of the building. Keeping her head down the whole time as she made her way home. It was half an hour later when she arrived at the Brownstone the two had bought together.
Walking to her living room, Adeline shed off her coat and pressed a few buttons, so the fireplace lit up. Going to grab a glass of wine, she brought the bottle with her as she sat on the couch.
Almost two hours later, she heard the door open and Rafael come inside.
“Carino?” his voice called out before stopping short when he saw her in the living room.
“You know, we’ve known each other for so long Rafi… since high school.” Adeline spoke softly, her eyes sad as she watched the fire dance before her in the fireplace. “I saved every single letter you wrote me. From the day I saw you in school and you were helping me find my class… I knew you were mine… You SAID you were mine…” her voice broke and she closed her eyes. Tears slipping down her cheeks. “I thought you were mine.” She whispered.
Standing up and wiping at her cheeks, she turned to face the man she was supposed to marry, “Do you know what Olivia said? After I told her what you’d done?” she asked and took a step forward. “She said, “Ade, you are going to marry a sarcastic, asshole! He is way too obsessed with his job.” Ironic isn’t it?” she scoffed and set the wine glass done. Cursing when some spilled out onto the floor.
Seeing him try to take a step forward, Adeline pointed a finger at him. “DON’T!” she snapped. “Do not take another step in my direction! You understand? I can’t be trusted around you. Just don’t! You think you can talk your way into my arms? You won’t!”
“Adeline, please…” Rafael pleaded, and she just shook her head.
“I’m going to burn everything you wrote me, every picture we have… everything.” She told him and frowned. “You can stand there if you want. I don’t know who you are… clearly I still have so much to learn!”
“That’s not true, mi alma! You know me, you know I love you...”
“I was re-reading your letters… now I’m going to watch them BURN!” with that she tossed a few papers into the fire.
Rafael took a step forward, but he couldn’t find the right words to say.
“You let them publish the letters between the two of you? The pictures of the two of you?!” she turned her head, Rafael taking a step back when he saw the red eyes and tear stained cheeks. “You let the WHOLE WORLD know how you brought this girl into our HOUSE! Our BED! You have RUINED our lives!”
He shook his head. “No… no, I’m the one who’s going to get ruined! They were after me…” he said in a small voice.
“Are you so paranoid? How they perceive you… You, you, you! ONLY YOU?” she was yelling now, her chest felt tight like someone was holding her down. “Do you think this won’t make ME look bad? YOU EMBARRSSED ME RAFAEL! Clearly, I’m not women enough to satisfy her man! So, he has to go out looking for someone else to sleep with!” she practically hissed at him.
Pushing him away when he tried to step closer to Adeline. She felt her breathing quicken. “Honestly… Heaven forbid someone whisper that you aren’t good enough or try and talk you down… your enemies whisper, and you have to SCREAM! Prove them ALL wrong!” she wiped her cheeks with both hands.
“It’s not like that, mi alma… I love you. I’m so sorry.”
Adeline just shook her head again. “I see how you look at Olivia, Rafael.” She whispered, only to cover his mouth when he went to say something. “Don’t. I’m not naïve. I see the women around you at the events we go to. How you put on your charm, they all fall for it! All your charms…” she laughed humorless.
“I’m leaving, erasing myself from your narrative. Let everyone wonder and think and come up with their own conclusions of how I reacted when you went and BROKE my heart!” She frowned, the tears finally stopping. “You have thrown it all away, Raf… and for what? A few nights with some exotic lover? I was supposed to be your legacy, built it together… a family.” Shaking her head, Adeline sighed.
When Rafael grabbed her hands, dropping down to his knees in front of her. Adeline had to try to stay strong. “Mi amor… por favor. Lo siento mucho. Por favor mi alma… perdóname.” He was crying now as he held onto the fabric of her long dress. “Te quiro mucho. No me dejes.”
“Rafael… you forfeit all rights to my heart and the place in our bed...” she said in a soft voice as she watched him, begging and crying into her dress. “You’ll sleep in your home office instead. With only the memories of when you were mine and I was yours…”
After untangling herself from his hands, she quickly moved to the stairs and rushed up them. Locking herself into her bedroom, Adeline fell onto her bed in a mess of tears.
Rafael was down in the living room in the same position. On his knees on the floor. Head bent down as he cried. How could he do this to the women he loved? How could he cheat on Adeline like Yelina had done to him? How could he be so stupid.
How did you like it? I KNOW I HAVEN’T BEEN ON BUT MY OTHER STORIES WILL BE UPDATED SOON. I’ve been having some... mental health problems. But i’m slowly getting in a better place<3
If you think I should do a part two, tell me! Other than that, heart and share this story! Much MUCH love from me to you! xoxo

To say that Samantha Flores felt needy was honestly putting it lightly. She didn’t know what made her wake up that Saturday just watching her boyfriend with a sense of need. She felt like she just couldn’t keep her hands off him. Especially as he laid belly down on the bed.
Samantha’s crystal blue eyes moved over his form. Sure, Rafael wasn’t the fittest man around. He had a cute belly; thanks to all the snacks he keeps eating in his office and whenever he went to meet with the SVU squad. But with his broad chest and strong arms. Samantha was head over heels in love with this man. Not that she would ever actually tell him that. No, she wouldn’t ruin what they have with those three little words.
Still remembering the first time she had seen Rafael; Samantha was finally given the opportunity to interview the lawyers for the Adam Cain case. She had snuck into the courtroom and watched it all go down. She had gotten to watch everything up until Adam Cain started to choke Rafael Barba with the belt. Samantha remembered being so shocked she didn’t notice the guard until it was too late, and she was thrown out. Being told that interviews would be after court was adjourned.
So, with a pout upon her pink lips, Samantha went to wait upon the steps with the rest of the journalists. Not answering any of their questions about what was going on inside the courtroom. Instead she stood by mark, the camera guy and photographer. Just chatting until he nudged her. Turning to see the lawyers come out. Samantha went to Rafael Barba. Sadly, most fellow journalists and reporters rushed over to him.
As the questions were being asked back and forth. There was one question that had Samantha rolling her eyes so hard that she felt that she almost fell backwards. “Idiot…” she mouthed, more to herself than anyone else. Seeing as no one was even paying her any attention. At least. That’s what Samantha believed.
“Whether you’re a john in the South Bronx or a $3-million-a-year talk show host, no means no.” was all Rafael said and Samantha smirked.
Allowing the crowd to thin out, most reporters going to talk with Rita Calhoun the Defense Attorney. Samantha though, she stayed back. “Mr. Barba!” she called out and walked forward. Her long skirt swaying around her legs. “I just wanted to congratulate you. The trick you pulled with the belt. It was pretty genius.” She complimented him with a small smile on her face.
“Thank you, Mrs..” he raised an eyebrow.
“Ms. Flores… Samantha Flores.” She held her hand out and once they shook hands. They smiled. “If I may… how did you know how to use the belt against Mr. Cain?”
Rafael looked like he wasn’t going to answer. But Samantha was pleased when he answered her question. That’s how their relationship went from then on. Samantha would accompany his cases and always get one question answered in the end. If he won or lost. She was always there, offering words of comfort for the cases Rafael lost, or congratulating him on the win.
That went on for over five months. Then Samantha built up the courage to ask Rafael out.
“Mr. Barba!” she called out one day after court, she had asked her question and Rafael started to walk away already.
“Yes, Ms. Flores?”
“I uh, I was wondering… Well, I mean. I have an extra ticket to see Hamilton on Friday. If you’re free. Would you like to join me?”
Samantha had never been so nervous in her life asking someone out. Not that she did much of that. It was usually just her picking up guys at the bar and then tossing them out after she had her fun.
“Hamilton?” Rafael furrowed his eyebrows. “Sorry, I’m not sure I ever heard of that show.” He felt his cheeks heat up embarrassed. “I mainly go see more… classical shows.”
She wanted to gasp and shake Rafael, ask him what was wrong with him. Seriously. “Well then, there you have it. I’m sorry but I can’t let you go on with your life without knowing what Hamilton is, Mr. Barba.”
After the invite and show, the two started to go out together more and more. That’s how Samantha found herself tangled in Rafael’s bedsheets, watching as he slept.
Her blue eyes trailing over his back and to where the covers covered his round bum. Head tilted to the side, Samantha moved over and pursed her lips together. Sitting over the back of his thighs. Samantha started to press soft, wet kisses over Rafael’s back. Making her way down, going in a zig-zag pattern down. Sliding down more, reaching his butt, she giggled and moved the covers down. Glad to see he had stayed nude the night before. Biting down onto his left cheek, Samantha let out a squeal, giggling as she fell sideways on the bed due to Rafael letting out a yelp and jerking awake.
“Samantha! What the fuck!” he yelled and watched as Samantha kept laughing.
“I’m sorry, Rafi… I couldn’t help myself. I mean, have you seeeen your rear end?” she questioned her boyfriend. A coy smile on her lips.
By the time they finally got out of bed, Samantha wearing only a shirt that belonged to Rafael and he pulled on pajama pants and a shirt. They two went to the kitchen after getting their morning routine out of the way.
Washing their face, brushing their teeth. Samantha placing her hand over Rafael’s ass. The usual morning stuff.
IN the kitchen, starting breakfast, something that’s only done during the weekends they spend together. Samantha put the coffee maker on and went to cut up fruit. Rafael on the other hand went to cook up the bacon and eggs. The two working in silence.
Samantha, each time she passed by her handsome boyfriend. She would brush her hand over the small of his back. But always drop her hand down to her ass for a slight pat. Grinning the whole time, patting, squeezing and by the time Rafael had plated the bacon and eggs, Samantha gave him a good slap across the ass. Laughing now at his shocked expression.
“What has gotten into you this morning?” He asked, moving to lift her up on the kitchen counter.
Shrugging, Samantha gave him the best innocent look she could muster up. “What? I’m just showing you how much I appreciate you… and that amazing ass you have Rafi.” She shrugged, as if it was no big deal. “Honesty. My anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns hon.” By now Samantha couldn’t hold back. She laughed without a care. To prove her point, her hands went down Rafael’s back and groped his pump ass with both hands.
“Well, since your hands get to roam on their free will…” He said and before Samantha could question her boyfriend. She let out a yelp and giggle when Rafael’s hands went under her shirt and covered her bare breasts.
“I love you, you doofus.” He smiled at Samantha who quickly sobered up and stared at Rafael with wide eyes.
“I…-“ but of course she couldn’t say anything as Rafael started to talk over her.
“I mean, you don’t have to say it back or anything. I just thought. Since I know how I feel for you. You know? I should tell you. It’s okay if you aren’t ready to-“
Samantha just silenced him with her lips. Wrapping her arms around Rafael’s shoulders. She grinned, “I love you too, you big dork.”

Pretty Little Psycho.
A Nevada Ramirez and Nettie Perez Story. Part Three.
Part One - Part Two
Summery: Nettie isn’t amused with Nevada’s men following her around. It seems like she can never get away from King Asshole. Some trouble from her past comes back and her life get’s messy.
Word Count: 2,181 Warnings: Cursing. Nettie gets aggressive. Gun Use, Blood. Shooting. Stabbing. Spanish! Death. Lovely ending (not really. this is sarcasm. don’t use my words against me! lol.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She tried, honestly Nettie tried to find Nevada again to return the money to him. But whenever she believed she knew where he was. It was almost like he had people following her.
Huffing when she noticed a car a few days later. Nettie couldn’t believe this asshole had the decency to follow her. Who the FUCK did he think he is? Following her like she belonged to him. If anything, that asshole belonged to her. It was his guy that stole from her. Sure, he got her purse back and paid her back, paid her back a few thousand more than she was missing…
But that wasn’t the point!
The point was, since he appeared at that café that night. Her life went from eh, too bad to Worse. All thanks to this bitch who thinks he’s the shit.
So obviously when Nettie noticed the car following her, she started walking back-ways and going through the alley ways. Doing everything she could to make sure the car couldn’t follow her.
One afternoon when she was walking home, Nettie noticed one of Nevada’s men following her. So, turning a corner and grabbing her gun. She held it out in front of her. Finger on the trigger and as soon as the guy turned the corner he froze.
“Look, I don’t know you and I could care less if the fucking Papa asked you to follow me.” She said, moving her finger to turn the safety off. Showing him that she was not joking around. “Tell Nevada he owes me nothing and I definitely don’t owe him shit… tú entiendes?” she hissed out and clicked the safety back on before turning around and walking away.
‘honestly, who did this guy think he was? As if I couldn’t take care of myself. I’ve proved I can. Fuck him.’ Nettie kept thinking to herself. Only to let out a gasp when a hand gripped her upper arm and pulled her back as a car rushed by.
“Now mami this is how you show you can take care of yourself?” a very familiar voice said, and Nettie had to clench her teeth together.
“Ah, King Asshole. Just the guy I wanted to see!” she shook his hand off her arm and opened her purse. Pulling out the wad of money. Nettie handed it over. “This right here? Yeah, not fucking mine.” She told him and still held the money.
Nevada making no movement to grab it, irritating Nettie to no end.
“No.” was all he replied. Making Nettie gasp.
“No? What the hell do you mean, no?” she demanded. Her fingers wrapping around the money. Crushing some of the bills. Not that she cared.
“I mean, No. do you wanna hear it in Spanish? ¡No!” he smirked and tilted his head to the side.
Tensing up as Nevada stepped closer to her, Nettie didn’t notice the people around them. How they would cross the street to not pass them or turn the other way and find another way to pass. So, when one of his men stepped behind her and slid something into her purse, Nettie never noticed it.
“I told you mami get something nice for yourself with that money. Think of it as a… gift.” Nevada chuckled and brushed a strand of hair away from her face.
He was so close she could see how green his eyes are, surprising her. ‘Wow… he has some really gorgeous ey- NO NETTIE. Do NOT finish that thought!’
Watching him wink before turning around and leaving. Nettie just watched him walk away honestly confused and with a frown on her face. “Puto loco…” she mumbled before calling out. “Tell your men to not follow me anymore by the way! Or you’re gonna find yourself one guy short.” She smirked and turned around as well. Walking away.
Ignoring the looks she was getting. Nettie went home where she started to clean up. “Let it go! Let it go…. Can’t hold it back anymore! Let it go, let it gooooo turn away and slam the door!” she was singing around her place as she cleaned up the downstairs.
The money that Nevada had refused to take back was in a safe in one of the cupboard in the living room. Come one day she’ll need it, at least she knows where it is.
As Nettie cleaned her home, singing a lot of different Disney songs. Dancing around and never knew that just inside her purse was a little device, allowing Nevada to listen to everything going on around Nettie.
As she went about her day, singing and doing what she needed. Getting her chores out of the way. Grocery and pharmacy mainly before washing clothes. Nettie had a relaxing day, the little run in with Nevada didn’t count.
¬_¬
It wasn’t until later that night did, she leave her home in some black pants that were tucked into knee high boots. A black t-shirt and a jacket over it. Nettie decided to just throw her hair in a ponytail and not bother with touching up her makeup. The mascara and pink lipstick were enough for her. Walking around with her headphones in and music on. Nettie walked to a cute little Italian place for dinner.
Once seated, a glass of wine in front of her. She played on her phone before looking around. Was it sad that she was having dinner alone? Hell no. Fuck what people think.
Yet, as she looked around. Nettie wanted to cry when she saw who entered the restaurant. Of course, he had his minions with him. But this time, Nevada was walking with some women and a kid.
“Hermana… please. Just sit the hell down.” She heard him speak and had to roll her eyes.
‘Of course, I decide to treat myself to a night out and this asshole chooses this place to eat.”
Instead of acknowledging the man and what seemed like his family. Nettie went back to her wine and played on her phone. Though something did surprise the girl. She watched his sister walk to the bathroom and Nettie listened as Nevada started to him ‘Let It Go’ and she turned her head slightly. Seeing he had a nephew.
‘Either he secretly loves Frozen, which I doubt since he wouldn’t hum the song out in public like this… or.’
Gasping, Nettie grabbed her purse and searched through it. Pulling out a Little device. Her eyes narrowed. Asking for her food to go, Nettie paid for it and drank the rest of her wine. Standing up once she paid for everything, Nettie walked over to Nevada`s table. Dropping the small device on his lap, Nettie leaned forward. Ignoring the look, she was getting from those at the table.
One hand softly brushing his cheek that was covered in scruff from not shaving in a few days. A look she learned he liked since his beard never changes. Her other hand dropped to his thigh, where her nails were grasping in a tight grip. Her nails digging into his jean covered thigh.
“Nevada…” Nettie softly breathed out as she whispered in his ear. The hand on his cheek moving to the back of his neck and toying with the hair there. “If you ever… plant something to spy on me again. I’ll take that promise I made to Jose and do to you.” She planted a small kiss to his cheek. “So… forget me and Let it Go.” Nettie tightened her grip on his thigh and was satisfied when she heard him hiss.
By the look on his face, Nettie couldn’t tell if Nevada was shocked, aroused or angry. Hell, he was probably feeling a little mixture of all three. Standing up, Nettie winked at Nevada and nodded to the company he had at the table before turning around and walking out.
By the time she made it home, Nettie took precaution and looked around the street. The lights in her home were turned on and Nettie was certain she turned everything off. Going up the steps, gun in hand. She pushed the door, allowing it to swing open. Something it should not have done, seeing as she locked the door. Nettie slowly stepped inside with her arms up and gun pointed in front of her.
Seeing the house trashed, Nettie grabbed her phone from her back pocket and speed dialed the police. Sadly, a few seconds later, hearing a crunching sound. Like someone stepping on broken glass. Nettie spun around on heel of her foot and glared at the stranger. It wasn’t anyone she knew, heck it wasn’t even one of Nevada’s goons.
“Ah, Miss. Perez. I see we finally found you.” The man chuckled, a sound so cold and heartless it sent chills down her spin.
“Well, I’m sorry to disappoint. But your finding people skills, they are shit.” She snarled and quickly shot at the stranger before dashing out of the house. Cursing as a bullet went past her head. ‘Shit… shit!’ she kept screaming to herself and didn’t make it far before someone grabbed her by the hair.
Next thing Nettie knew she was screaming out in pain as something stabbed her in the stomach. Being dropped to the floor, Nettie was kicked in the head and was falling into unconsciousness. Blacking out as a car was heard pulling up and people were yelling.
Allowing the darkness to consume her, a darkness where she didn’t feel the pain anymore. Nettie felt nothing as memories of her childhood played in her mind.
Running around in a white sundress, 6-year-old Nettie was laughing and twirling around. Her father watching her from the bench. Reminding her to not go too far.
Watching the girl twirl and play, without a care in the world. Not knowing the heartache and pain she was going to feel in just a few years when her life would change. When slowly, one by one her family would be dying leaving her alone. Nettie was shocked to see the small 6-year-old stop and stare at the older Nettie.
“It isn’t your time yet… you need to wake up Nettie” the small girl said, and the older version was taken back.
“What?” she asked and blinked a few times.
“It isn’t your time to leave the earth…”
“She’s losing a lot of blood! We need to hurry her to surgery!”
“No… no! She’s flat-lining! We’re losing her! Bring the paddles!”
As the defibrillator charges the paddles, they are placed on the girls naked chest and after a second, it goes off. Giving the young girl a huge dose of electricity. Her back arches and her limp body lifts up off the bed. Yet the monitor stays the same, the straight line never showing signs of a heartbeat.
“Come on Nettie! You need to continue. We can’t let our life end like this!”
The older female frowns and looks around. Two ways she can go. Right, towards the light and left, towards the yelling she can faintly hear. With a deep breath. Nettie makes her decision. Stepping forward. Nettie knew what she had to do.
Nevada:
If asked what made him go after the girl, Nevada wouldn’t have an answer to that question. He himself didn’t exactly know. He just had to go and give her a piece of his mind. Telling his sister and nephew he would be back soon. Nevada got into his escalade with Miguel and Manny. Leaving three men with his sister to look after her. Miguel drove to Nettie’s house.
But as the car turned on the street, the car came to an immediate stop. Causing Nevada to almost fly forward from his seat. Though before he could ask, an ear-piercing scream was heard, the three men rushed out of the car. Each with a gun in their hand.
While Miguel went after the man, Manny went to bring the car closer and Nevada. He ran over to Nettie. Placing a hand over the huge gash on her stomach.
“Don’t worry Mami… you’re gonna be alright.” He whispered to her. Hearing a gunshot, Nevada looked up in time to see Miguel return. Nodding to Nevada who nodded back. Knowing that the man was taken care of. They soon got Nettie in the car and Manny broke every traffic law known to get them to the hospital.
As soon as they entered the hospital, Nettie was taken away on a gurney with a doctor and nurses. Nevada answered as many questions as he could before finally losing his patients and telling them all to fuck off. Telling Miguel to stick around, make sure no one suspicious got in and went after the girl, Nevada left and sent his sister a text. Canceling the rest of their dinner. He couldn’t exactly show up covered in blood.
One thing Nevada was certain of, he was going to get to the bottom of this. No one comes to HIS neighborhood. Tries to kill someone he took interest in and gets away with it. Oh no. Nevada wanted blood.

Pretty Little Psycho
A Nevada Ramirez and Nettie Perez Story. Part Two.
Part One
Summery: Nettie waits for Nevada to bring her bag back. When he never shows up, Nettie decided to take matters into her own hand and go after Nevada.
Word Count: 2,018 Warnings: Cursing. Talk about drugs and blowjobs. Nettie gets aggressive. Some explicit talk. Spanish!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next few days had Nettie anxious. She had not only back talked to the Nevada Ramirez but lived to tell the tale. Just at the thought that she would even dare tell anyone what had happened Nettie let out a pretty ugly snort as she stood at the café. Trying to figure out a way to retrieve her bag. Surely Nevada would have been kind enough to return it, or have his minions bring it back. Hell throw it at her through the car window. No need to stop. She just needed the fucking bag back.
Her phone, medication, gun and her last three paychecks were in that bag. Along with her wallet that had her I.D. Those shit were a pain in the ass to get made again.
“Mother fucker… hijo de puta…” she would mumble under her breath as she worked, honestly not caring since she maned the front of the café alone. Dalvin would always be in his office working on the finances and Camila would be baking.
As the day slowly came to an end, Nettie said goodbye to the two owners and left. On a mission. After asking around on her walk home, Nettie found out where Nevada or Trujillo usually hangs around at night. It was a Saturday, so she hoped he would be there.
Checking the time, Nettie narrowed her eyes and went to get a shower. Once clean, shaved and feeling a little better. Nettie started to get ready. Blow dying her hair, leaving her dark locks in semi-straight. She pulled her hair in a few braids but tied it off in a ponytail instead of braiding it all the way. Grinning and doing something simple with her makeup, Nettie put on mascara, foundation to hide the dark bags under her eyes, blush on her cheek bones and some liquid eyeliner on her eyelid, deciding against the cat eye look. Once that was done, she added a bit of pink lipstick and went to put on her clothes.
Black leather shorts, a simple black tank top underneath and her black studded leather jacket. Nettie was on a mission. Slipping her feet into four-inch heels that had a strap. Making it easier for her to walk and not worry about her heels slipping out of her feet with each step. Once ready, Netter lathered her lips with some gloss and left her house.
Walking to where the club was, Nettie suddenly felt her palms become sweaty and she started to rethink her decision. ‘What the fuck am I thinking…’ she thought to herself and walked right up to the bouncer at the door. Putting on a flirty smile, she whispered a few things in his ear. Mostly flirting while rubbing his arm up and down. Soon enough, she was let in with a smirk.
Looking around the dark club, Nettie furrowed her eyebrows and pushed her way to the bar. The club was so loud she almost couldn’t hear herself think. But once at the bar, Nettie grinned at the bartender.
“What can I get you linda?” he asked over the music.
Shaking her head, she leaned over the bar. “I’m looking for Nevada Ramirez.” She yelled back and saw the guys eyebrows raise.
“Look…” he started and sighed. “You seem like a good girl. You don’t want to get mixed up with Nevada and his stuff.”
Nettie almost laughed, knowing how it must look. Her asking to see Nevada. The druglord and ‘King’ Asshole of Washington Heights.
“I don’t want anything like that!” she yelled out. “His bodyguard, Miguel helped me a few days back and Nevada gave me a ride home! They have my purse and I need it back!” She explained and the bartender just looked uneasy.
But instead of saying, he pointed to the side where there were some stairs. A guard, well… guarding it and the bartender shrugged. “Take this up there…” he told her and handed over some papers. “I was going to go, but it’ll get you up there.” He smiled and Nettie suddenly felt grateful.
Taking her jacket off and the bartender placing it behind the bar. He winked at her and Nettie grinned. Pulling her shirt down further, giving a nice few of her cleavage and her practically see through lace bra. She turned and headed over to the stairs.
“I have papers for Nevada...” she held them up and after the guard looked over the papers quickly. He let her up and Nettie almost giggled.
‘this is going way too easy…’
Once up there, she rolled her eyes. Men sitting around, girls giving lap dances almost naked. Some doing a line of coke, others drinking. One even seemed to be giving some guy a blowjob. But Nettie paid them no mind. She quickly found Nevada and walked over to him. Throwing the papers down on the table in front of him. Ignoring the fact that the papers spread over the table and two even fell to the floor.
“Mira quién apareció.” He laughed and Netter rolled her eyes once again.
“Si, Si… I showed up. Don’t go creamin’ your pants now Nevada.” She taunted, smirking while her arms crossed over her chest.
Watching him lean forward, resting his elbows on his knees. Nettie watched as Nevada licked over his lips. His eyes trailing over her body. Looking at her exposed legs, that looked a lot longer thanks to her heels. Her bare arms and chest that was slightly thrusted outwards thanks to her arms being crossed under her bust.
“Now mami, we don’t want a repeat of last time… do we?” he questioned, and Nettie gritted her teeth.
“Mira aquí, Nevada. I didn’t come here to chit-chat.” Nettie stepped forward. “I came here to get my purse that was left in your stupid looking escalade.” She laughed, this whole situation was an honest joke. “So, can I please have it back then I’ll leave and never come face to face with you unless absolutely necessary.” Nettie bargained, tilting her head to the side.
Nevada just sat there, a little confused. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Jose took that bag back to you two days ago.” Nevada waved her off.
Nettie just threw her head back and laughed. “Oh, yeah. OKAY. That’s why I’m here. Cause your guy brought my bag back. Yet, here I am. Telling you I don’t have it. Last time I saw it was when I got in YOUR escalade.” She exclaimed, voice raising now.
Taking a step back when Nevada got to his feet. Miguel stepped forward and Nettie was soon being dragged somewhere. Had she not caught her footing; Nevada would have ended up literally dragging her.
Entering a office, Nettie was pushed into a seat and Nevada ordered Miguel to grab Jose.
“I am really fucking tired of your pretty little mouth, mami.” Nevada sneered and Nettie sighed.
“If it was up to me, Trujillo I wouldn’t even be here. But I fucking need my bag.” She eyed him and leaned back against the leather seat.
Yet, before he could say anything. There was a knock and soon Jose was pushed inside.
“AH! Jose… Jose, Jose, Jose... I gave you a job to do the other day. You told me you delivered the bag.” Nevada stood up and walked around his desk to sit on the edge of it. “Now, I got little miss mami here. Saying she wants her bag back, which is hilarious. Cause, you told me you returned it to her.”
Nettie stood up and crossed her arms over her chest. “Where the fuck is my bag?” she asked, glaring at the man in front of her.
“I… I gave it to you, crazy puta.” Jose tried to sound tough, but Nettie wasn’t having it.
She stepped forward; Nevada didn’t even try to stop her.
“Oh, you gave me my bag. Huh. So why am I here then?” she asked him.
Jose just let out a laugh, one that sounded like a nervous chuckle. “The fuck should I know. Probably trying to get Nevada to pay you or something.” He looked over her shoulder to Nevada. “You know these putas are loca.” He laughed, but it turned into a painful groan in just two seconds.
Nettie was standing in front of Jose; her knee having encountered his dick and balls in one swift upwards motion.
“Call me puta… one more time. I will personally cut your dick off and shove it up your ass, making you my little bitch.” Nettie grabbed Jose's hair with a fist and hissed in his ear.
Miguel had to turn his head and let out a few very suspicious coughs that sounded like laughter to Nettie. Not that she was paying him much attention.
“FUCK… fine! I have your shit. Spent your money as well. Hoes like you deserve it. Thinking they a bad bitch!” Jose said in a painful grunt as Nettie pulled harder at his hair.
With wide eyes, her mouth dropped. Lifting her high heeled foot, she kicked Jose in the chest. Sending him flying back to the floor. Only to turn to Nevada. “I am going to murder him.” She told the man through her clenched teeth.
Shaking his head, Nevada looked at Jose before glancing at Miguel. “Go teach Jose here some manners… find out where her stuff is and bring it back to her.”
With that, Miguel picked Jose by the back of his shirt and pushed him out the door forcefully. Jose knocking into the door frame only to be pushed out.
Rubbing at her tired face, Nettie sat back down in the chair. “That fucker spent three months’ worth of my pay.” She scoffed and stood up. “If you could, get Miguel to bring me my stuff at my place? I need to get out of here.” She mumbled and headed to the door.
Nettie never stopped to see what Nevada would say. She just left. Pushing her way down the stairs and to the bar. Grabbing her jacket. She waved at the bartender and quickly left the club. The cool air outside felt heavenly against her skin.
Two hours later, Nettie was laying on her couch wearing a shirt three times too big for her and a pair of girl boxers that hugged her ass. Sipping from a wine glass that was filled halfway with the boxed wine she had in her fridge. When there came a knock to her door. Nettie stood up slowly and dragged her feet over to the door.
“Hola mami…” Nevada grinned when she opened the door. One of his hands held a cigar and the other her purse. “I believe this is yours.” He held it out to her, and Nettie smiled slightly.
“It is… thank you Nevada.” She grabbed the straps of the purse and frowned when he didn’t let go. Only pulling at it so Nettie stepped closer to him.
Nettie watched as Nevada licked over his lips as he glanced down to her lips. “Do I get a thank you… for returning your shit?” he asked, Nettie almost laughed in his face.
“Nevada… it was your men who didn’t return it in the first place.” She reminded him and shrugged. But instead of saying anything else. She gave him the softest kiss she could muster up. Her lips barley brushing against his. “Thank you… have a nice night now.” She slipped her bag from his hand and stepped back inside her home. Closing her door easily and letting out a breathless chuckle.
Locking the door. Nettie looked inside her purse, only to freeze when she saw it was filled with money.
‘Here’s Jose’s next three pay. Don’t spend it all in one place- Nevada.’
Read the note on top of all the money. Shaking her head, Nettie rushed over to the door and unlocked it. Pulling it open, she cursed when she saw that Nevada had left.
Throwing her purse on the couch, Nettie went to sleep. Deciding to deal with all that money in the morning.

A Rafael Barba and Amelia ‘Emma’ Herrera Story.
Summery: Amelia ‘Emma’ broke up with Rafael when he was 18 and she was just 16. He left for Harvard and Emma left for Italy two years later when she graduated. Fast-forward Fourteen years when Emma and Rafael run into each other again. Will there still be sparks between the two or have they both changed too much to be together again?
Word Count: 1,622
Chapter Three!
chapters- One - Two
Warnings: There are some cursing here. A little abuse from a patient. Death. Emma cries. Kinda sad. I never know what to put here.
Tumblr media
After that day at the café with Rafael, the conversation between the two of them became less and less. Emma had a feeling he didn’t appreciate her words about why she broke up with him. Not that that was her problem, if he didn’t like it, oh well. It was the truth and if he couldn’t handle it. That’s his problem.
But when three months passed and April was nearing, Emma found herself looking at her phone as she was having lunch. Looking at the text messages between her and Rafael. It had been over two weeks since either one of them sent anything to the other. Not that they would even talk much, mostly good mornings and good nights. At least when she wasn’t working and could respond. She hated to admit it, but Emma missed talking to the man, she missed him in general. After years of being separated, Emma found herself missing everything about Rafael.
The little remarks he would make, the fact that he was serious 90 percent of the time. The other 10 percent he was sarcastic. The suits she would see him in, the look of pure determination on his face. But even now when she gets off work and heads to her little coffee shop ritual. She would be entering, and Rafael would be leaving. Always on the phone and it seemed important. And so, she never bothered him. Leaving it as it is.
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼
“Dr. Herrera?” Emma turned to see one of the nurses standing before her. The two were working the ER floor together. There seemed to be a shortage of nurses and so Emma offered her help, knowing she would be paged if she was needed up on the pediatric floor.“Can you look at our John Doe over there?” she asked and pointed to a guy sitting in a chair holding his upper arm with a bloody towel.
“Of course, just, keep security around. He looks ready to bolt out of here.” She nodded to the nurse and walked over to the man.
As she checked him out, asking questions on what happened and trying to get information on him. Emma started to get impatient. Not that she showed that, she just smiled as she took her John Doe to emergency room 3, nodding to a nurse as she passed. As she talked to the guy, checking the wound after having to cut his shirt off. Needing to make sure nothing else was hit or hurt. Emma felt a little uneasy. “Well… it doesn’t seem to have hit anything important; you were very lucky.” She said and shook her head. “I’m just going to go grab what I need to stitch you up and you’ll be good as new...” she smiled at him and left the room.
“Get the cops here. It’s a gunshot wound, he refuses to give his name or any information at all… I’m pretty sure he’s high on something.” Emma told her friend Ava, the nurse who requested she check out the John Doe.
Returning with the tray with everything she would need to stitch up his arm. Smiling at her John Doe, Emma pulled on her gloves and opened each package. Giving him a shot anesthetic to numb the area around the two bullet holes. As she started to stitch the wound, she went slowly, being careful since he kept flinching and moving slightly.
“Can you hurry the fuck up?” he hissed at Emma who glanced up at the male.
“Well, I’m trying to go as fast as I can.” She assured him and she gasped when his hand gripped at her forearm.
“Well then, I suggest you go faster. Got it?” he seethed at her and before Emma could say anything, a male called out.
“Hey! Get your hands off her!”
Emma looked over and was taken back. The man came over and quickly pulled the hand off her forearm and Emma hissed when John Doe’s fingernail scrapped at her skin.
“I’m guessing you’re the little punk who shot at my partner an hour ago. Daniel Warren, you’re under arrest for shooting at a police officer, trafficking cocaine and selling drugs to under-aged kids. You have the right to remain silent….” As he was reading the guys rights, Emma quickly finished the last bit of the stitches and stepped back.
Throwing everything away in its rightful trash can. Emma watched a little spooked as another officer came in and took the guy away.
“Are you ok, doc?” The guy who had handcuffed her john doe- er Daniel, asked and Emma nodded.
“Just a regular day in the ER when a criminal gets handsy.” She joked before looking at her forearm and frowned at the fact that it was bruising from where Daniel had grabbed her. There also being two scratches from his nails. “Well shit…” she mumbled and went to clean up the area.
“Well, I’m gonna need to take your statement from treating Daniel. We’ve been trying to bust him for some time…” he followed Emma and she glanced at the officer. “I’m Detective Nick Amaro. I work in the Narcotics Unit.” He held his hand out and Emma blushed slightly.
“Dr. Amelia Herrera. But please, call me Emma.” She shook his hand, the two smiling at the other. “Uh, right. Statement. We can talk over here.” She mentioned for him to follow her into the Staff Room.
Making a beeline right to the coffee maker. Emma offers Nick a cup and was soon making two. Once she handed off the coffee to him, she snickered when he commented on the fact it was better than what he drank at Narcotics. As she gave him her statement about the guy Daniel. She told him everything from his arrival, refusing to give any information. The fact he was arrogant and aggressive the whole time. She smiled once they finished.
After they traded number, in case he had any more questions, or she remembered anything else. The two shared a smile and Emma walked Nick to the exit. After goodbyes were said, she returned to the nurses’ station ready to go and check on her patients.
“So… the detective was pretty cute.” Ava smirked at Emma, who acted as if she didn’t hear her friend.
“Did the results for my patient in room 4 ever come back?” she asked as she looked over the charts with a small smile. Winking at Ava, Emma went to go see how the teenage boy who had gotten a CT Scan of his head was holding up.
At 5pm, a full ten hours past her usual hour for leaving the hospital. Emma rubbed her eyes. Nearing six that morning, three women came to the hospital. Three women with complications and a baby that was coming way too early. So being asked to say, just in case. Emma stayed. Having to assist all three pregnancies during the day. The first being at ten in the morning, where the preterm baby was born at just 26 weeks. Emma jumping right to care for the small infant along with Her team. Before placing him in the NICU, the small thing being born with an infection that they caught and was now treating. The next birth happened 3 hours later Emma had been sleeping when she was called. The baby came at 25 weeks and there was complication right from the moment he was delivered. When the baby didn’t make it, Emma found herself in the hospital staff showers crying. She knew there was nothing she could do but having to tell the parents broke her. Staying down in the ER, Ava distracting her.
She was called back when around 3 in the afternoon. Emma caught that there was something wrong with the way the baby was breathing while doing the check-up. Stepping up and having to intubate the premature girl. She explained what was going on to the parents. Explaining what RDS was and how their child will have to stay in the NICU until she was able to breath properly on her own. Until then, she would have to be on the ventilator.
When Emma finally left the hospital. She felt like a mess. Her heart ached and her head felt heavy.“Amelia?” she heard a familiar voice call out and the girl squeezed her eyes shut.
Turning to see Rafael standing there, looking like a hot mess. He walked over to her and pulled her into a hug, surprising Emma. “Have you been working this whole time?” he asked, though he never gave her a chance to speak. “When I didn’t see you at the café this morning, I stopped by your apartment. But you never answered the buzzer. Then you weren’t answering your phone and texts all day… I left the office early and came here.” He explained and her lip trembled.
“I… Our pediatrician is out with a cold… I needed to stay. Three women giving birth to premature babies…” she told him as tears slid down her flushed cheeks. “One didn’t make it… I couldn’t do anything.” she cried and was soon engulfed in a hug and crying into his chest.
“Está bien cariño...” He whispered in her ear. “I’m sure you did everything you could.” He added and she just cried.
By the time Emma finally calmed down, she allowed Rafael to help her go home. Arriving at her apartment, she thanked him and assured the man she’ll text him if she needed anything. Seeing as she was taking the next 24 hours off. Only going into work if she was called. Something she hoped wouldn’t happen.

Kissing Secrets
A fivr part story about our favorite ADA Rafael Barba and his FBI gf.
Summary: What happens when the SVU squad meets Rafaels’ girlfriend, but under not so great circumstances?
Word Count: 2,373 Warnings: Cursing, angry couple, Spanish, angst, talk of rape and drug case.
Tumblr media
Dating never came easy to Rafael Barba. But when he found someone with a job as hectic as him. It was perfect. Neither expected much from the other, when one had to cancel the other would understand.
Of course, Y/N would be more than understanding. She had two bachelor degrees under her belt and after long days and nights with the 20 weeks of New Agent Training with the FBI at Quantico. She, just like Rafael, worked hard to get where she was. Trying to make a name for herself. Starting at twenty-five and becoming a special agent before her twentieth eight birthday, Y/N knew she would make it.
Y/N and Rafael met when she was looking for a job, needing to complete two years of work experience to become a special agent. Working as a rookie cop in a district in Brooklyn. Well, one night an angry cuban man walks into the precinct. His fancy three piece suit was a mess and he claims he was assaulted. Knife wound to his arm, Y/N was the cop to take care of him.
One thing led to another, Rafael left the precinct with a smile. Having left his number behind for the cop. To ‘call’ if she had any questions about his assault. Of course, Y/N was able to find the guy who assaulted the ADA and was able to get his phone back from the man.
Almost three years passed and they were still happy with the other. Dinners, nights in and a couple who were in love with the other. Y/N met his mother and his abuelita, things were perfect. So, when Y/N graduated, celebrating the fact that she made it through the FBI academy. Thankfully, Y/N was able to stay at the federal bureau of investigation in New York City.
»---------------------►
A few months into her new job, Y/N felt as if she was on a high. It was her biggest case yet and it was hers… well, her’s along with her partner, Agent Shawn Carter. Having been staying overtime the past month, getting together evidence and witnesses to take down an organized sex trafficing crime involving a drug lord that’s on their most wanted list, Y/N wasn’t about to let anything get in the way of her bringing every last one of them down. Especially when the last victim she was notified of was a thirteen year old.
“Hola mi amor…” Y/N smiled at the call of her boyfriend. Rafael had been her rock the past few years as Y/N worked on getting into the FBI.
“Hola mi corazón…” she heard him chuckle into the phone. “Dinner tonight? Think you can make it?”
Glancing at her watch, Y/N thought about it. “I think so yeah. We’re going to pick up a perp right now and if it all works out. I’ll be able to spend all night with you.” She told him and sighed. “I’m sorry for being super busy lately.”
“Hey, none of that. I understand. It 's your job. My girlfriend, the badass FBI agent.” the two laughed and Y/N smiled.
“My boyfriend, the hot shot ADA. I’ll get out early to have dinner with you. No matter what, you’ll come first tonight.” She told him, noticing they were nearing Manhattan.
“Now, now… You know you always come first when we’re together.” Y/N could hear the smirk as he spoke and she just laughed.
Saying goodbye with many ‘i love you’s’ Y/N put her phone away and sighed, the smile feeling permanent on her lips.
Ten minutes later, the black car pulled up outside the Special Victims Unit of the 16th precinct. Both Y/N and Shawn looked at one another before nodding. It wasn’t going to be fair and it wasn’t like they knew. But the SVU team had picked up a perp they had been watching and started an investigation on him. Something Y/N couldn’t let happen. No this was her case.
Walking into the building and getting directions to the SVU floor, Y/N walked with her head held high. The skinny jeans she wore, along with the blue button down shirt. She made sure to have her badge clipped to her pants. Gun in its holder and ID already out in her hand.
“Can I help you, agent?” a woman asked, making Y/N turn to look at a blonde who walked over. That caught the other detectives attention.
They were already wondering why the FBI was there.
“As a matter of fact you can. I’m special agent Y/N L/N and this is my partner, Agent Shawn Carter. I’m afraid I’m here to collect the perp you have in custody along with everything you have against him.” she told the women, except her eyes were on a brunette woman. Whom Y/N knew was in charge. She did her research before storming into the precinct this way.
“Why should we do that? This is our case, don’t see why the Feds want a low life like him.” another detective spoke up and Y/N looked over at him. From his voice and stance, it was obvious he was angry.
“Calm down, Amaro.” the brunette finally spoke up. “Olivia Benson.” she introduced herself and Y/N shook her hand. “Now, you say you need this guy. Why? From what we’ve gathered, he’s just a scum who likes underage girls.”
With a sigh, Y/N nodded. But she didn’t say anything when a familiar voice spoke up. “What’s going on here?”
“Ah! Barba, you’re going to love this.” The Amaro fellow looked amused. “The FBI is here to take our case.”
“Oh yeah? On what grounds?” Barba asked.
“On the grounds that he’s a suspect in an ongoing Federal case.” Y/N said, turning to look at the man she just told she loved, not even half an hour ago. “Miguel Hernández raped and murdered a thirteen year old girl three days ago. And I know you guys picked him up cause he was caught in the act of raping another victim. Now imagine my surprise when I found out that SVU caught him. Even though notice went out to contact the FBI if Mr. Hernández is picked up by officers or detectives of New York.” she spoke, informing all of them, even though her eyes stayed on Rafael.
“He also has information about Lorenzo Torsney.” Shawn spoke up for the first time.
“Wait, Torsney, the guy linked to the sex trafficking ring with the underage girls? The same Lorenzo who’s rumored to be the new Drug lord of New York?” some guy spoke up, his thick accent catching Y/Ns attention.
“That’s the one.” Both agents spoke at the same time. “So, Lieutenant. The case files and Miguel if you please.” Shawn said and followed Bensen into her office to grab the paperwork to make the transfer.
Y/N on the other hand went to look at the window that showed into the interrogation room. Hearing footsteps, Y/N smiled at the male and nodded to the detective seeing the coffee he got her. “Thanks…”
“Ah, Dominick Carisi, Jr. but everyone calls me Sonny.” the thick accent said and Y/N raised an eyebrow.
“I get the feeling, no one calls you, Sonny… Sonny.” she smirked and looked at Miguel again.
Thankfully he got quiet after that. Though what Y/N failed to notice was Rafael standing in the doorway. “Excuse us, Carisi.” he said, in his ‘this is my mad, but trying to stay professional” voice.
Sonny couldn't get out of the room faster, not that Y/N blamed him. She would have ran as well.
"You couldn't have told me on the phone that you were coming to pick up the guy from my case?" Rafael whispered, looking real mad.
Yet, Y/N just rolled her eyes. "Tu caso? Last I heard, you were still working in fucking Brooklyn! Que diablos, Rafael!" She hissed at her boyfriend. "You changed fucking districts and never told me?"
"Oh, that's rich. Coming from the one always canceling our dates!"
"¡Vete a la mierda!" Y/N narrowed her eyes. "Who canceled the last THREE dinners? Wasn't me, that's for fucking sure." She scoffed and pushed past him.
"Real professional Detectives.." Y/N rolled her eyes at the SVU team all scrambling back to their desks. Pretending like they wern’t eavesdropping on Y/N and Rafael.
"Y/N, vuelve aquí, ahora."
Only, Y/N ignored him. Pulling out her phone, she had to put in a call for another agent to come out to the district and collect Miguel. All while ignoring Rafael. Who was trying to glare her into submission.
'Good luck, papi. Not gonna work now.' Y/N thought and  looked away from the detectives. Answering emails and texts on her phone. Already getting a location of where Shawn and her needed to go after leaving SVU.
»»---------------------►
As Miguel was getting put into cuffs, both around his wrists and ankles. Y/N watched, making sure nothing would go wrong. Turning to the detectives, she gave them a sad smile.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t let you guys have this case.” she told them, sounding sincere. “If he wasn’t important to catching Torsney, I would have let you keep the case.” she added, thanking Shawn as he handed Y/N her FBI jacket.
Hearing two different scoffs, but from two cuben men. Y/N rolled her eyes and shook Olivia’s hand. “It’s fine, at least you’re getting him off the streets… and something tells me, you interrogating him will make what we did look like preschoolers.” she smirked and Y/N shrugged.
“Let’s just say, the cameras are not on all the time.” Shawn spoke up and Y/N shook her head.
“Yes they are, thank you for giving me a heads up to watch all the interrogations you do from now on.” she narrowed her eyes and told him to go wait in the car. Saying goodbye, Y/N turned and made her way out.
Getting into the car, Y/N rubbed a hand over her face and told Shawn they were needed over in the Bronx.
“So… that was your boyfriend. Huh?” the male next to her spoke up after a few minutes of silence in the car.
Of course, with her telling him to shut up the car ride continued on quietly.
Hearing her phone let out a ping Y/N grabbed it and read the text from Rafael.
Papi: So, I guess we need to talk later.
Y/N: Yeah, I’ll tell you when I get off. Don’t know when that’ll be. There was a bomb over in the South Bronx. Was put on the case to deal with it.
Keeping the reply simple. Wanting Rafael to know she was mad at him. Not even replying to his ‘stay safe’ and not cause she didn’t want to. But because they had arrived and the scene they saw. It was a complete mess.
News crews were filming everything happening, people being put into ambulances and being taken care of.
“OK! What do we know?” Y/N asked, tying her H/C hair up into a ponytail.
As they were getting information, Y/N looked around. Not knowing cameras were pointed towards both her and her partner.
Turning to the officer telling them what had happened, Y/N frowned. “What time was the explosion? Exactly.” she asked and Y/N felt like she paled when being told it had been Nine minutes.
“We need every emergency vehicle headed here stopped outside the perimeter, and evacuate the building.” she commanded and stopped when the Battalion Chief spoke up.
“I got half a dozen guys inside checking structural damage, twice that many going door-to-door --”
Y/N just cut him off. “Have them grab anyone they see, and get out. Now.” her confidence leaves no doubt and the man nods. Talking to everyone he can and getting as many people out as possible.
With Shawn helping out on the other side, also helping people move away from the building the explosion went off in. It left Y/N to run after a woman who was running towards the apartment building. Crying about how she wanted her son's body
Y/N was able to get her away, but when the second explosion hit, both her and the woman were flown forward. Y/N being knocked out.
Rafaels’ POV:
He was getting shit for not saying anything to the team about his FBI girlfriend. Not like he knew if they were even going to be that later on when they talk. But still, he sat there and let them poke and joke around. The team had gotten takeout and were relaxing since there were no other cases. Rafael deciding to join them (not like they gave him much of a choice in the matter)
“Hey, Barba… didn’t you say Y/N was out in the South Bronx?” Rollins asked, causing Rafael to turn away from Liv and look at the blonde detective.
Moving his head to see what she was looking at, Rafael felt a chill in his stomach as he watched the News on the TV. They were covering the story of what was happening.
The team were all quiet listening to the man speak, the camera moving to where Y/N stood with her partner. Rafael watched as she took charge of the situation, he felt proud of her. But he had a nagging feeling, seeing everyone move quickly at whatever command she gave.
“By the looks, Agent Y/N L/N of the FBI gave orders to evacuate the building. Will there be another explosion, how does she know to get everyone out of the building? Whatever it is, everyone seems to be listening….” but Rafael turned the man's voice out.
In the background he could see Y/N running towards the woman and he shot up out of his seat when the second explosion happened. Cutting short the camera. No one was moving or saying anything as they just watched Rafael, who looked on the verge of a panic attack.

Not gonna be a long fic. Maybe just a few parts.
Word Count: 2,027
Warnings: Uhm. Cursing?(Is that even a warning? Who doesn’t curse.) Spanish... Italian. I don’t know
Tumblr media
"Rafi! Don't you understand! I'm doing this because I care about you!" Emma begged the man to understand. "You got a scholarship to Harvard! I still have two years of school left. You should go and enjoy your full ride out of this place!" she cupped his cheeks with her hands and brushed her thumbs under his eyes where she could see the tears forming. Heck, Emma had to force herself not to cry. She had to break up with Rafael, what could she offer him once he ups and leaves for Harvard? She was just a silly sixteen-year-old who was madly in love with him. Yet when she heard him talking to Eddie and Alex about refusing the offer to leave and find a college closer to home... because of her. She knew she had to stop him.
"Pero cariño. it's fine..."(wait sweetie) he tried to speak, but Emma covered his lips with her own one last time.
"Please... go be somebody in this life, Rafael. You deserve it, you worked way too hard for this scholarship to throw it away." She spoke quietly. "Besides, I'm not anywhere near as smart as you are. I'll be in a local college here in two years. Probably still trying to figure out what to do with my life. Not you though, you just go and be happy." Emma nodded before taking a step back away from Rafael. Turning to see her mother calling her down the street from their apartment building. Emma sighed and squeezed her eyes shut.
"adiós mi amor..."(Goodbye my love.) she whispered before turning around and running home. Ignoring Rafael as he called after her.
That summer, Amelia spent every day working and doing whatever she could to avoid Rafael. She couldn't confront him. She had gone to his graduation in secrecy. Only to leave in tears when she saw Yelina throw herself in his arms and kiss his cheek repeatedly. She should have known, Yelina was Rafael's age, they were both gorgeous and smart. Why wouldn't Rafael want to be with someone like her? Why he kept trying to talk to Amelia was beyond her. Amelia only knew that she wasn't about to fall for his words.
By the time school was back, Emma focused on her schoolwork, even starting to do theater. Becoming a star student quickly, earning the leading roles, and ending up having an amazing rest of the school year. Eddie Garcia would come to each show of hers, supporting the young girl. The two, after Rafael left, became close friends. Especially when Eddie found out that Amelia's mother had a new boyfriend who paid close attention to Emma. So, Eddie would always be over and acting as he was her boyfriend. Right until her graduation came and her grandmother handed Amelia a plane ticket with a smile.
"Go see the world niña..."(Little girl) she said and when Emma saw it was a one-way ticket to Italy. She nodded and hugged her grandmother.
A week later, standing at the airport with Eddie. Her luggage already having been handed off. She hugged the man who kept her safe for the last two years. Kissing his cheek, Emma was off with a backpack over her shoulders heading to her gate. Ready for an adventure.
As she sat in the seat of the plane, watching out the small window. A tear rolling down her cheek, she softly sang under her breath. "I wonder, it's frightening... Leaving now, is that the right thing? I wonder, it scares me, but who the hell am I if I don't even try... I'm not a coward. Oh no, I'll be strong."
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼
For the first two years, Amelia worked night and day to learn the language and live comfortably in a neighborhood in Verona called Valdonega. A cute little place that was still a nice walking distance from the city center. Enrolling in college, doing what she needed, Emma went for her Doctors degree. Working at cafes and restaurants to pay for everything. Along with the help from her grandma now and then.
Emma loved her life. As the years passed, she graduated and soon went to medical school and got her doctors degree in pediatrics. Finding a steady job at a hospital where she could use both her English and Italian, even her Spanish every now and again for her three year pediatrics residency. Emma just enjoyed life. Going to the Theater with her friends, working or just staying home in her little apartment. Things were going amazingly for the girl who came all the way from the Bronx. When nine years slowly passed, and Emma found herself celebrating her Thirtieth birthday with a few friends. That's when she knew what she had to do. Breaking the news of her move after one stressful shift. Emma was heading back home. Back to New York. She had done everything she needed to do to complete her pediatrics training. Now was the right time to move on.
Eddie had been excited when she emailed him two days back, the two never lost contact over the years. He even joked about her getting there in time for his wedding, something she would try to do.
It took two weeks to sort everything out. But soon enough Amelia was on a plane heading back to New York. Back to the Bronx where a room was waiting for her at her grandmother's apartment. After Twenty-Four hours of flying and making connecting flights. Emma was sure she looked like crap when finally grabbing her luggage and heading out of the airport. She only smiled when she saw a familiar face.
"Ciao Eddie! Come te la passi?"(Hi Eddie! How are you doing?) she grinned as she spoke Italian with the man. Who didn't look one bit bothered at all. Instead of replying, Eddie hugged Emma tightly.
During the car ride to the Bronx, the two friends chatted. About her life in Italy, how she had a slight accent. Eddie even teasing Emma on not knowing anymore Spanish. Which earned him a punch in the arm. Amelia learned about Yelina's cheating on Rafael with Alex, during the whole relationship. Then the wedding that took place a year after the breakup. Not that Emma commented on those facts very much. What could she say? It’s been over ten years since she spoke to Rafael. Emma honestly doubted he wanted anything to do with her. Not that she would blame him. His first girlfriend dumps him -even though it was for his good- and ghosts him. His next girlfriend cheats on him with his best friend four months into their relationship of almost a year and a half and then dumps him.
Looking out the window, Emma just bit her lip. Knowing full well she couldn't stay long at the Bronx. She would find a job at a hospital, having a bachelor's degree in nursing, and experience working in a hospital from her time in Verona. Emma was certain she could do it.
After Eddie's wedding, something she was shocked to not see Rafael at. She soon found herself working at Bellevue at the Pediatrician ward and the E.R. After her move to Manhattan, away from the Bronx. Even though it was her home, she was just not used to it anymore. Living in a cute apartment with a roommate who Emma got along with right off the bat. Life was going great. Never realizing that every now and then a certain Cuban, green-eyed man would pass her by on the streets. But one never saw the other.
✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼
Before Emma knew it, four years had passed since moving back to New York. One cold November morning, while standing in line at a coffee shop while texting Eddie. Waiting for the line to move, except some people just never know what they want. Causing Emma to curse and lookup. It was Seven in the morning and she had just gotten off a thirty-three-hour shift from the ER that was non-stop thanks to the huge accident that happened the night before. Amelia felt as if she would fall asleep then and there. Only ‘cause she worked an extra three hours.
"Oh, come on... " she rolled her head back and felt her neck pop. Answering her phone when it rang, the girl sighed. "Eddie Garcia! Stop calling me! I'm cranky, sleepy, and still in my scrubs, and its fucking freezing outside!" she snapped once she heard the man on the other end of the call laugh. "Tu Hijo de puta! Call me again and I won't babysit your spawn."(You son of a bitch!) Emma added, feeling a headache come on and she just sighed. Finally stepping forward and placed in her coffee order and asking for a deli sub. All while Eddie was telling her about the party for his son next and that she had to go. Emma agreed to before hanging up and waiting for her order.
"Amelia Herrera?" a voice spoke next to her, sounding shocked. Emma already knowing that it wasn't her order being called out. Mostly because she was certain she didn't give her last name. So, turning on her heel, her eyes almost bugged out when she saw him standing there.
"Rafael Barba..." she said quietly, "Figlio di puttana..."(Son of a bitch.) she added and smiled slightly. "Ha sido un tiempo..."(It's been a while.) she frowned, thinking about how it's been around sixteen years since she’s had last seen him.
The two just stared at each other, not sure what to say. When her coffee and sandwich was handed off to her, Amelia thanked the guy and turned back to see Rafael. Taking him in. The fancy suit, briefcase in hand, hell she could practically feel the authority and sense of purpose just by the way he stood. Emma suddenly feeling very self-conscious. Knowing damn well her hair looked like a bird’s nest and her nurse’s scrubs were dirty from her shift. She had forgotten to bring a second pair of clothes when she got into work the night before.
“Yeah, it has been a while.” She heard Rafael speak after what seemed like an eternity. “You look… interesting. New look?” he said, looking her over with a smirk. Causing Emma to let out a snort.
“Oh yeah, what do you think? Think I can pull off this messy nurse look?” she said sarcastically, grinning at the man in front of her.
“I think you should maybe try another look. This one does nothing for your appearance.” He chuckled softly, “I have to get going… but we should meet for coffee... or lunch and catch up some time?” he offered and Amelia bit down on her lip before nodding.
Handing over her phone so he could add his number, Amelia watched as Rafael called his own number, so he’d have her number as well. Smiling as she was handed her phone back. Emma pocketed the device and picked up her bag and coffee. Taking a sip. She nodded.
“Right… so I’ll text you? Or… you’ll text me?” she laughed softly and ran a hand through her hair and drank more of her coffee.
After the slightly awkward goodbye, Emma dashed out of the coffee shop and walked down the sidewalk. Heading to her apartment building. As soon as she arrived, Emma ate her sub and drowned the rest of the coffee before going to shower. It was nearing Eight in the morning when Emma finally laid in her bed and slept. Waking up hours later, Emma glared at the time that read it was past Five already in the evening. Sitting up and seeing her phone notifying her she had a message. Emma grabbed it off the charger and checked out who messaged her. Smiling, she leaned against her beds headboard and messaged back. Agreeing to meet up for drinks, Emma laid back in bed and decided to sleep another hour. Setting her alarm, she closed her eyes and easily fell back asleep.

A Hard Lesson in Discord: Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Authors’ Note: There seems to be a question of what the judge will decide when it comes to Ashtonja...read on to see what happens in court! Thank you for the likes, reblogs, and comments! @rauliskafan and I hope you enjoy this chapter!!
         “Barba! Natalia! Over here.”
Hand-in-hand, they walked a few feet to where Trevor Langan stood.
           “Are we late?” Natalia asked.
“Not at all,” Langan assured them. “Everything alright on the home front?”
“We wanted to keep Ashtonja home,” Rafael said.
“But Violetta thought that school might help her take her mind off things,” Natalia interjected.
“Smart girl,” Langan said. “Besides, you want to keep up the appearance of normality throughout the proceedings.”
“It’s more than window dressing, Langan,” Rafael hissed. “We have a happy home. All of our girls are---”
“Atticus,” Natalia tenderly soothed, rubbing his back. “You know what he means.”
“Exactly,” Langan agreed. “Let’s stay on the same page. And we’re going to play nice”
“As long as nothing else catches you by surprise,” Rafael said. Right on cue, Ines Abreu appeared, flanked by the smirking Lionel Granger.
“Trevor,” Granger began, extending his palm.
“Sorry,” Langan said. “I just washed my hands.”
With a wicked laugh, Granger started into the courtroom, and Rafael grabbed Langan by the arm.
           “That’s playing nice?” he demanded.
“I said you have to play nice,” Langan reminded him. “Do I really have to tell you that it’s different for lawyers?”
Langan seemingly had him there, and Natalia began to ease him back when Ines paused and turned on her heel to face them.
“This could get ugly,” she said.
           “Get?” Rafael echoed.
“But you left me no choice,” Ines continued. “You know, it’s not too late.”
“No, it’s not,” he said. “You could walk out right now. Since that’s your style.”
           “Now listen to me you---!”
“Save it for the courtroom, Ines,” Granger cautioned, guiding her inside and looking back to Langan one last time. “And watch yourself, Trevor. Or don’t. Wouldn’t mind an easy day’s pay for a change.”
His chuckle caused Natalia to cringe, but she sucked in a deep breath and started to reach for Rafael’s shoulders.
“Are you even listening to me?” Langan demanded. “You’re not trying this case, and you’re not helping.”
“I’m just supposed to stand by and let her---”
“Yes, you are,” Langan warned. “Unless you want this whole thing to blow up in our faces.”
“That’s rich coming from you,” Rafael started, looking like he wanted to say so much more when Natalia forced him to face her and narrowed her eyes.
           “Atticus, calm down,” she said.
           “How can I when---?”
“When you think of Ashtonja and the fact that we’re doing this for her.”
Something in those words seemed to reach Rafael, and he hung his head, pressing his brow to hers.
           “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have.”
“I didn’t say that,” Natalia said. “But let’s leave this to the lawyers.”
“And what am I?” he challenged.
           “Today, you’re a father.”
He smiled softly, and they locked hands. Entering the courtroom, Natalia kept Rafael close as they sat near Langan, and she alternated between wanting the hearing to get underway…
           ...and already be over.
At last the judge entered and signaled for their lawyer to start. With a confident smile, Langan rose and buttoned his blazer.
“Good morning,” he began. “Your honor, the facts of this case are really quite simple. The minor in question, Ashtonja Abreu, was living with her supposed primary caretaker.” Langan made a point to glance at Ines, his face a mixture of contempt and amusement. Would that his confidence could prove contagious? But Natalia still felt nervous, her legs just trembling under the table…
...and Rafael was faring no better, his palm shivering in hers.
“But Ines Abreu had better things to do with her time,” Langan continued, slowly shifting his attention back to the bench. “This so-called loving grandmother abandoned Ashtonja. And it wasn’t the first time. Hardly a surprise considering the fact that her modus operandi was to take the money that my client sent her way for the minor’s care. That became Ines’ personal piggy bank for God knows what. With God knows whom.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Natalia saw Ines fidget in her seat as she rolled her eyes. Good. Let her look like the spoiled child that Ashtonja never was or could be. Let her look petulant because Trevor Langan was turning the tide away from what she wanted most. Let the judge take note.
So she would never send Ashtonja back to such an unworthy woman.
“Who knows what might have happened to Ashtonja had Mr. and Mrs. Barba not taken her into their home,” Langan went on. “I suppose any number of foster families could have done as fine a job when it came to the essentials, food and clothing and the like.”
Rafael raised one eyebrow and tilted his head. Natalia saw into his mind, knowing that he was silently calling into question the implication that Ashtonja should fall into the hands of the state. Why even put that idea into the judge’s mind? Why---?
“But no other family could have given Ashtonja the love, the sense of safety and security and the hope for the future that Rafael and Natalia have.”
Langan gave them a warm smile.
“And now, all my clients want, if you’ll pardon the cliché, is to dot the I and cross the T. No piece of paper, no judgment from this or any court is required to make her a member of their family.”
For a brief instant, the judge bristled.
           “All due respect, your honor.”
But just as quickly, Langan brought her back around.
“Still, in the interest of fair play, we ask this court to recognize the rights that the Barbas have already earned. For them. For their other daughters who already adore Ashtonja as their sister. And, most importantly, for Miss Abreu herself. Thank you.”
Smiling as he sat, Langan looked to Rafael who nodded his approval. How Natalia wished that Langan’s opening was enough. That the judge would simply throw up her hands and decide the matter in their favor so they could head home and share the good news with Ashtonja once school was out.
But if fair play was the name of the game, Ines Abreu at least had the right to plead her side of the story.
Or rather her oily lawyer did. Natalia nearly choked on his cologne as he stood proudly and thanked the judge for taking the time to hear him, to hear his client out.
“Judge,” he started. “There is some truth to opposing counsel’s version of events. My client was not a perfect guardian when it came to her granddaughter. Her blood relation.”
The way he punctuated the last two words made Natalia want to leap from her chair over the table and smack him soundly across his smug face. Naturally, that would do nothing to aid their cause, and she settled for just digging her nails into her lavender pencil skirt.
“Now did Ms. Abreu make some mistakes?” Granger continued. “Absolutely. Was she reckless? Also a fair characterization.”
From the place at her table, Ines clasped her hands so tightly that Natalia saw the bones threatening to poke through the flesh of her knuckles. Granger was hardly painting the most flattering of portraits.
“But let’s not accuse her so rashly without looking to the man who took Ashtonja in.”
Or was he? Running his hands over his red tie, Granger looked back to the place where they sat, and Natalia clutched her husband’s hand even tighter.
“Before we sanctify one side and vilify the other, let it be duly noted that Rafael Barba’s actions led to the death of Ms. Abreu’s daughter, Marianna.”
“I object to that,” Langan chimed in.
“It’s an opening argument,” Granger stressed. “Try to prove me wrong. Try to tell her honor here that Ashtonja is better off with a couple who lead one David Willard right to the girl’s door. And once they got out of that jam, Rafael Barba was arrested for the murder of his mistress!”
           “That’s not what happened!”
           “Don’t!”
           Langan raised one hand but---
“Hasn’t my husband been through enough without these vile---?”
Stopping herself short, Natalia sank back to her chair, hanging her head when she felt Rafael’s arm around her shoulders.
“You said to keep calm,” Rafael reminded her.
           “I know. I’m sorry.”
He kissed the top of her head, and Natalia forced herself to listen as Granger described Rafael as the villain in the darkest narrative.
“But Mr. Granger,” the judge began. “I have it on good authority that Mr. Barba was set up for the crime in question. Michael Cutter is presently serving time for the murder of Eve Selby.”
“I… well yes, Judge. But that doesn’t mean---”
“What it means is that you are wasting time trying to inflame the situation. So, let’s say we take a short break so Mrs. Barba can get a drink of water, and then we’ll come back and stick to the facts of young Ashtonja.”
Even as the judge rose with a huff, Natalia still felt a sense of victory, and she stayed close to Rafael, tuning out the sound of Granger conferring with a fuming Ines.
“The judge is with us,” Rafael whispered into her ear, his lips quickly moving to her cheek.
           “After that stunt I pulled?”
“Wasn’t exactly wise, Natalia,” Langan said.
“No one gets to throw what happened in Rafael’s face like that.” She felt her husband’s hand on her shoulder and started to sink into his touch when two voices coming from around the corner added to the army that only seemed real in the space of her mind.
           “Problem, Langan?”
“Why does my sister-in-law look upset?”
Standing side by side, Fin and Dodds folded their arms across their chests. Langan’s swagger melted ever so slightly, but just as swiftly he cleared his throat and lengthened up the back of his neck.
“I’ll let her fill you in,” Langan said. “We’re still in the black. But maybe Mrs. Barba should watch her step.”
He tried to leave, but Fin grasped his arm.
“You still have this in the win column?”
Swallowing hard, Langan nodded his head. Only then did Fin release him from his hold.
“Let’s keep things moving in that direction.”
Once Langan was gone, Natalia caught her breath.
“Liv says he knows what he’s doing,” she said. “She has Noah…”
“And you’ll have Ashtonja,” Dodds promised, patting her arm as Rafael kissed her other hand.
           “Are you alright?” he asked.
Shaking her head, letting her lips meet her husband’s, Natalia smoothed her hands down her skirt and looked at Dodds.
           “You’re here… with Fin?”
“OCCB is on the light side these days,” he said with a shrug. “Maybe we should stick around…”
           “Yes,” Rafael agreed. “Hermosa?”
Just nodding her head, Natalia patted his cheek with a smile and tasted the tears on her tongue.
“It can’t hurt,” she said. “If Granger has something else in store.”
“Man’s scum,” Fin said, and Natalia gave him a quick hug.
“That’s why I love you,” she said. “Always telling it like it is.”
Feeling better, she turned to Rafael.
“I’m fine,” she said. “Just let me get cleaned up.”
           “Don’t be too long.”
Natalia took a few steps in the direction of the ladies’ room. Standing before the porcelain, she twisted the faucet and felt the cool stream pour between her fingers. She splashed her face once, twice, a third time, and paused with her palms over her eyes.
Relax. Don’t play into Granger’s hand… into Ines’. Langan will make this work. And Atticus…
Lowering her hands, Natalia felt a small smile spread across her lips. Rafael was there, having come after her. She kept eye contact in the space of the mirror, finding a towel to dry her hands when…
           “Hola, mi mariposa.”
Her eyes were dry. Her vision clear. And when she whipped her head around, when she peered into that pair of green eyes, she knew…
           “Nevada…? No!”

A Hard Lesson in Incrimination: Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Authors’ Note: Happy SVU Wednesday!!! Time to check back in on the squad and Rafael and Natalia!! Just what exactly will be the ramifications of Rafael’s sudden confession? What about Mike and IAB?? What of Natalia and Maggie!?! So many questions!!! Read on and find out!! As always, @rauliskafan and I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing what you guys have to say!! So thank you!!
“I need to talk to you. Right now.”
Seeing the rage in her sister’s eyes, devastated as she watched her husband taken away, unable to even touch him, Natalia felt faint. For the smallest of seconds, her eyes locked with Michael Cutter, who departed without a word. Looking to Liv, her gaze begged the lieutenant to rouse her from this nightmare. It was not within her power. What of her own? Was it possible to rescue her husband? To collect the girls and flee to parts unknown where they could escape these shadows?            No answer to those questions and Natalia was left with only the harsh tone of Maggie’s voice…
…and the ballerina’s eyes threatening to set fire to the spot where she stood.
“How long, Natty?”
The words sounded foreign as Natalia let them sink into her brain, straining to comprehend, almost on the verge of asking her sister to repeat herself when Maggie pushed her into another room and slammed the door shut.
“How… what do you mean?”
“Don’t do that,” Maggie hissed. “How long have you had my husband mixed up in all this?”
Seeing her sister’s lip start to quiver, Natalia forgot her fear and moved forward to hold her, to promise that everything would be alright even if it was a lie she barely believed while her breath hammered rapidly in her chest. But before she could begin the embrace, one of Maggie’s delicate hands flew into the air and swatted her back. Still so close to her sister and yet feeling many miles away, Natalia was reminded of the girl she first came across after too many years dancing in a fog of drugs, of domineering men and mothers.
But that wasn’t who she was any---
“Answer the damn question, Natty!”
Maggie’s voice grew louder, and Natalia swallowed hard before she spoke.
“I… since the night Eve died,” Natalia slowly confessed.
“Since the… unbelievable.”
“We didn’t call him, Maggie,” Natalia quickly continued. “He… Mike knew we were both on our way to Eve’s… I was following Rafael.”
“How’d you figure out where the counselor was?” Maggie asked through clenched teeth.
“Well… that was Mike, too. He knew where I was heading and---”
“And then there the two of you were with a dead woman!” Maggie cried, touching her sister’s arms, the feel of her fingers sending a sharp charge through Natalia’s skin.
“Yes,” she admitted. “It looked… you must understand what everyone would have thought. So Mike---”
“Exactly what they’re thinking now!” Maggie bellowed as she turned her back and scrunched her fair hair between her fingers. “Maybe then you could have explained it. Do you see that happening anytime soon?”
Peering through the blinds, unable to see what was happening outside the room, Natalia’s heart sank to the pit of her stomach. She found herself standing at Maggie’s side, struggling to stare through the smudged glass when her sister touched her again, giving her no choice but to look into the other woman’s eyes.
“What the hell is the matter with you?” Maggie asked. “Didn’t you know how this could go down?”
“Yes,” Natalia said quietly. “But Mike said---”
“Don’t you dare blame my husband for any of this!” Maggie spat, shrugging away with her face flushed and nostrils flaring. “Where was the voice of reason, Natty? Where was… where was the payback for all the times I’ve helped you?”
For an instant, Natalia’s mind flashed back to the tortured days before she knew the truth of the twins, and her mind grasped that idea like a lifeline in icy, unforgiving waters.
“Mike was doing what you would have done!” Natalia argued. “Keeping a secret to keep us safe.”
“Right,” Maggie scoffed. “And having me rattle on like a fool at your poor excuse for a dinner party was just the icing on the cake, right?”
“No!” Natalia swore. “Mike did this for you, too! For our family.”
“Family?” Maggie echoed. “I’d love to see your definition of the word.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Natalia challenged.
“It means that in your mind it starts, stops and altogether ends with Rafael,” Maggie said.
“I… he’s my husband---”
“And does that defy every other word in the dictionary?” Maggie demanded. “Any other concept? Keep quiet about the twins or your husband might get hurt. Cover up the fact that he’s at a dead woman’s apartment. Hell, even Carmen had to wonder what was wrong with you when you went charging into the night after that Ramirez prick.”
“Don’t do that,” Natalia said, backing Maggie into the wall and taking a few seconds to catch her breath before releasing the rest of her voice. “Someone didn’t make the smartest choices in London either.”
“Someone was taken by surprise,” Maggie shot back. “You knew the score. Then and now. But Rafael always comes first. I figured that out on day one.”
“When you treated him like something you’d stepped on and forget about just as fast?” Natalia accused
“When you defended him in that restaurant! He got a free pass, and you scolded me like a child.”
“Which is how you were acting,” Natalia reminded her.
“But Rafael can do no wrong.”
“How can you… after all that he’s done for you?”
“He’s left my husband vulnerable to internal affairs!” Maggie said. “I have a life too, Natty. We want a family. But you… you could care less about that. What’s going to happen one of these days when your daughters realize that their father is more important than they are? I pity those sweet little---”
Without stopping to think, Natalia raised her hand and brought her palm across Maggie’s cheek. The ballerina fell back and seemed too stunned to move. But just as quickly the wrath returned to her eyes. She lunged forward, pushing Natalia into the edge of the nearest table, and as a chair crashed to the floor, the door swung open.
“Hey!” Dodds yelled, reaching for his wife and holding Maggie back as Natalia sank into another seat and brushed a few fallen strands of hair from her face. “Why are the two of you fighting?”
“I don’t---”
“Because she’s a self-centered martyr who has to always be the star of the story,” Maggie sneered. “With Rafael as her leading man. The rest of us can go to hell.”
“Maggie,” Dodds started, slowly turning her to face him. “He gave you away at our wedding. You don’t mean---”
“I know what I mean, Mike!” she quickly fired back. “Don’t make excuses for them. Other people have lives, too. Not that she cares one fucking bit about it.”
Racing from the room, Maggie left Natalia alone with Dodds, and he glanced down at her hand.
“I’ll thank you not to hit my wife again,” he warned in a whisper.
“Sorry,” Natalia muttered. “What’s come over her? It can’t be just this.”
“No,” Dodds admitted. “This morning… we had another false alarm with the whole… the whole baby thing.”
“Oh, Mike, I---”
“This is all just coming at the worst time.”
And then she felt as guilty as Maggie’s words intended, reaching for Dodds’ hand and hanging her head.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I shouldn’t have… I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“I get that,” Dodds said. “But right now, we don’t have a lot of time.”
“What do you mean?” Natalia asked, back on her feet.
“They’re taking Rafael to Rikers.”
The words fell on her shoulders like two weights that she could barely balance, already crushing her. Not wanting to let them seep into her mind followed by images of cages and chains…
“Can’t Liv do something?” she pitifully asked.
“Maybe a delay,” Dodds said. “But Cutter doesn’t want this to look like anyone’s playing favorites. I’m sorry, Natalia.”
A clock started to tick in her mind. Come the morning, she would have to contact a lawyer, find a way to make any bail that was set, do whatever was necessary to get her husband back…
“My sister knows me too well,” she muttered under her breath.
“What?” Mike asked.
No time for an explanation now.
“I have to see Rafael.”
“That’s why I’m here.”
He almost opened the door when Natalia grabbed his hand.
“Are you in a lot of trouble?” she asked.
“I’ll be okay,” he promised.
“Your father must be a beside himself.”
“He’s already calling in favors… please don’t worry about me right now.”
But she was worried about the whole wide world as Dodds led her down a staircase and just past Liv.
“Natalia, my hands are tied here. Cutter---”
“I know,” Natalia said, her desire to argue squelched by the fact that she needed to be near Rafael and Dodds guided her towards a dark cell.
“Oh, Atticus.”
He sat on a cot, his head in his hands. Even in the dim light, Natalia still saw a faint gleam in his eyes when she spoke, and as she grasped the bars his fingers followed suit.
“I’ll give you guys a few minutes,” Dodds said.
“Thanks,” Rafael replied, and Natalia held their breath until they were alone.
Only then did she…
“Atticus, why… you were a victim, too. I found you knocked out cold and---”
“No proof of it. Cutter has my… conversation with Eve on tape. And after what Mike did… these waters are too muddy.”
“I don’t want you to drown,” she whimpered.
“I won’t,” he assured her, his breath moving through the bars so they could steal the smallest of kisses.
“Atticus…”
Suddenly a light went off her head, and she held his hand tighter.
“Eve had enemies.”
“Hermosa, it couldn’t have been Rollins.”
“There are others,” she said, her confidence growing, her focus on nothing but setting him free. “I’m going to look into it.”
“No,” he said. “I don’t want you to.”
“And I don’t want you trapped like this,” she pressed.
He appeared ready to argue when his shoulders sagged, and he leaned his head against the steel.
“I suppose I can’t stop you,” he said. “But don’t go it alone. Talk to Liv… maybe Mike.”
“I think Maggie wants me to keep away from him.”
“Is there a problem?” he asked, his voice sounding as normal as if they were in bed and ready to tie up the loose ends of their respective days before sliding into sleep. But now, on this night, they were doomed to endure the darkness alone…
“Don’t worry about… oh, Atticus… I don’t want to go,” she said, tears springing to her eyes. Her arms slipped through the bars, and she clung to him, Rafael’s nose buried in her hair as his lips made their way to her ear.
“Think about it; when this is all done, I’ll know how a case feels from every side,” he said. “Might make me a better lawyer.”
“You don’t need to be better… you just need to come…”
Home. Natalia never got a chance to speak the word when Fin and a uniform appeared.
“Sorry, Barba,” he said.
“Nothing personal,” Rafael said. “Please… if you could… see that Natalia gets a ride.”
Nodding, Fin took her aside, and Natalia watched as the door opened, and another pair of metal cuffs were affixed to Rafael’s wrists. She saw him shiver for a second and rushed forward to hold him once more when he suddenly stood up straighter and glanced down at his hand.
“My wedding ring, hermosa.”
“I… you want me to…?”
“They’ll only take it from me,” he continued. “Keep it safe. Until this is over.”
The act felt like a kindness and a crime in the span of the same motion. But still, Natalia took the ring, recalling what it felt like to place it on his finger the first time… swearing then that nothing would ever tear them apart.
“Soon,” she said through her tears, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him one last time until he was snatched away and forced down a long corridor.
“Te amo, mi hermosa flor,” he called out before he disappeared from her line of sight. Sinking to her knees and feeling Fin close, Natalia stared down at his ring and clasped it to her chest.
“Very soon, Atticus. Whatever it takes.”
