drew a blurger today
so actually, I've been playing with non-square pixels a lot lately bc I wanna do art on my VT320 serial terminal, so this week I did some calculating and some number crunching and set myself up with a GNU Image Manipulation Program template that would serve me well:
My bf challenged me to draw a burger with a specific palette bc I've been drawing some practice burgers to learn to draw, so I figured I'd do so in the domain I've already been playing with: terminal art!
when viewed with square pixels the entire drawing appears squashed. but when we turn *off* dot-for-dot mode in GNU Image Manipulation Program,
our blurger bursts to life :D
(also if your menu options are different than mine, I'm actually using preview builds for version 3.0 because older versions of GNU Image Manipulation Program use a version of GTK that doesn't support my tablet pen 😭)
But. getting the blurger where we want it was harder. See, I haven't yet written a tool to automatically process an image to a series of characters, so I instead had to do it the old fashioned way: paletted bitmaps!
With a paletted bitmap, we can reduce the bitrate of the image to let each pixel only take up half a byte! And then, with our handy dandy hex editor, we can see the raw data:
We take out a few header rows, and...
we get our burger, aligned properly and upside down! Funnily enough, bitmap images are stored bottom up but not left-to-right, and this is not the first time I've run into this.
A few more steps!
We copy each line from the hex editor, starting at the bottom (top of the burger) and work our way to the top (bottom of the burger), into a separate text document so we get our burger as numbers.
I am a fan of receipt printers and serial communication, and I have occasionally run myself into some situations in which I need to type a bunch of untypeable data or generate a stream of bytes real quick to do a specific task, so from here I actually had a tool on hand to make this a fuck of a lot easier: my markup language, aml! First I put the original at the top in comments so I had a template to work against...
and then we make a copy to which we add our colour information!
Each one of those tags (except the ones at the end of the lines, which are for new lines) is actually a macro for my markup language that I made specifically for this task to encode the ANSI control code for each of the colours:
and once all that was done and prepared, it was the simple task of running my interpreter over it (ami.py -u blurgercolours.json -i blurger.aml -o blurger.bin) and I had a binary file that I can send to a terminal that has ANSI 24 bit colour support and show off my blurger.

Chapter 232 Analysis
I keep liking panels for the complete opposite reason I think rs wants us to. cause holy fuck this panel slaps, it's fucking terrifying. This actually looks like Hades is abducting Persephone and if it was actually written to be that this panel would be great! it isn't perfect.. I hate how bored persephone looks.. which is a problem with basically the first half of the chapter.
She has no emotions in her face.. she doesn't look upset or worried fuck she doesn't even look scared. This is supposed to be this big emotional moment between her, hades and demeter and they don't even say anything to demeter. Like even a sarcastic or sad goodbye... we just get nothing. If any artist want to add some actual emotion onto her face It would make this panel perfect ahuekafh
also the fact that it's reused like four times.. either zoomed in or out. You can see it so badly when it's zoomed out.. cause they didn't really account for the glow at this angle so it looks so awkward.
Now for this weeks discussion on how Demeter is fucking right. Demeter is right! Hades has a history of taking advantage of others while their in pain. Christ even with persephone, she ended up at his house drunk and was clearly extremely emotionally vulnerable and the next morning he tried to have sex with her. He did the same with minthe, you could even say he did the same with hera as it's heavily implied she turned to hades because of her troubled relationship with zeus.
Hades made the choice to propose to Persephone during an emotionally vulnerable time. given how easily they left afterwards it's clear that hades DIDN'T HAVE TO FUCKING PROPOSE. Especially given how persephone made it extremely fucking clear that she wanted to have a longer dating period. All the shit and drama in this whole chapter could have been rightfully avoided if hades just respected persephone wishes with that.
Also again Demeter is right.. because hades choice to propose to Persephone at this time it's extremely fucking likely that the fact demeter was there influenced her answer. Persephone wasn't giving the environment or chance to truly make this decision on her own. of course it was influenced by Demeter and this situation. Acting like it isn't is just.. stupid. Demeter is wrong for pointing out these point, their extremely fucking clear.
Again persephone just looks board and fucking leaves without saying a single thing to her mother. Again it's clear that Demeter is fucking devastated and terrified for her daughter... her story is just so much more emotional and heartbreaking then any sad relationship drama that rs writes for hxp. Rs just keeps making Demeter an objectively more tragic and interesting character then Persephone... the amount of disrespect she gets is just so sad.
Now I don't fully mind a tension release after a heavy moment, but it's just not done well. It's to quick and just doesn't give the problem enough room to breath first. We barely get more of a hand full of panels before persephone is laughing about hades dick being out and we just completely move on.
Good tension release need to let the conflict be it's own thing before letting the characters breath. A good examples are the episodes 12s of bojack horseman, each season ends on a fundamentally positive note. Even after episodes that are some of the more depressing thing you can watch.. the characters are given time to breath, laugh and starts on the next leg of their story. The problem here is that the problem just disappears... The connecting through line is just an eh joke.. it's funny in concept but kinda uncomfortable.. especially when persephone mentions the scared virgins... like people who are very clearly not one you would want your dick out in front of.
Also be greatful I kept my talk of other media I like short... this was like twice as long before ahfuekahke
Now probably the dumbest decision rs has made in a long time is removing persephone green hands. They where a show of her hard work and where at least one physical 'flaw' that she had. They were supposed to be ugly and despite them just looking more just like green gloves most of the time, but it was part of persephone growth and actually made her look different from season 1. Persphone constantly being praised and worshiped for being perfect and having the one thing considered a flaw just be removed cause... it's like demeter is just sad.
Also the missing eyebrow and like fucking blow up doll looking face.. it's just creepy.
Also!! remember that whole shit about how persephone wore white cause purity and demeter.. yeah so it didn't take long for rs to completely fucking forget that. One shes wearing a white scar.. and two shes looking at fucking white wedding dresses. plus small spoilers.. she ends up with a white fucking wedding dress during the actual wedding. It's so fucking clear that was a terrible point and yet rs fails to even try and stand by it.
Also maybe it's just me, but I'm really tired of all the "hehe look this services workers are scared of hades and persephone! how funny! look how terrified they are!" Like there is only so many times I can see this joke before it's just boring and over done. Plus also like is it really a smart idea to draw attention to how much people are terrified of are leads when we're supposed to be routing for them?
uhhh so yeah for the whole xenia source thing... just go read this post by @genericpuff. It makes the point for how this is really dumb way better then I could.
As for the actual plot point.. uhhh it's honestly just more casual sexism from hades. calling demeter 'that women' along with assuming that cause zeus gave permission is all good. Like that is fucked up right? and framing Demeter as bad for being rightfully upset that her daughter is marrying an asshole.
also just.. literally any story besides the hxp one is more interesting, for fuck sake their individual stories are more interesting then any moment they spend together. Like it's such boring romance story that rs is failing to make more interesting... and it sucks cause the story bends to it's will and it draws away from either more interesting romances or just more interesting ideas and characters. Hera is suffering but hades and persephone wedding is more important.. cause yeah..
rs really is just burning down this webtoon.. it sucks and is really just the perfect example of wasted potential.

Scorpion (1983) by Harprit Sandhu, Bob Syeszycki and Foad Rekabi, University of Illinois, for Rhino Robots Inc., Champaign, Il. The Scorpion is a robotic terminal, designed to follow instructions and return data sent over an RS-232 link. It’s based on the 6502 microprocessor with two software controllable 6522 Versatile Interface Adapters. Sensors include a pair of downward facing photo-reflectors enabling it to follow a tape on the ground, and it has bump sensors on each of its four sides. The most unusual feature is a two-axis optical dish, with a single photocell at its focal point. This dish can be scanned vertically and horizontally with a resolution of 1.5 degrees per step. "Conventional vision systems are too expensive. What if we could build an optical scanner that scanned the environment, collected the information, and displayed the information on the video screen? A display of 40 characters by 25 lines would produce 1000 pixels of varying brightness. This should be sufficient for recognizing many simple objects. We could experiment with pattern recognition, perform calculations to enhance contrast, and find edges. The Amputated Franken-Plus
Last year I revived an old Mac Plus that had been destructively robbed for parts over the years. I added sockets for the chips that had been removed, gave it a new power supply, added my SE-VGA card for video, and bodged a few broken traces. But there still remained the most heinously destructive part removal that had been committed against this poor board ...
Long before I had mastery of a soldering iron, and lacking the proper tools for desoldering components successfully, I had a project where I needed n 8-pin mini DIN connector. I had this non-functional Mac Plus board gathering dust so I decided to remove one of its connectors. With a knife. By cutting the board around the connector.
I was young ...
Obviously, there's no repairing that. The board has a permanent chunk removed from it.
However, I find myself wanting to be able to use those serial ports now that I have the rest of the board running. There are lots of fun things to use them for, like LocalTalk networking, printers, zTerm, etc.
So I set out to build a breakout board to add the connectors for these serial ports back to the board. I started by digging up datasheets for the RS-422 & RS-232 transceivers Apple used, as well as schematics for the Plus and similar era Macs so I could trace out how the connectors were originally wired. It turns out all of the signals for both ports are routed to some RC filters in a straight line at the back of the board. This made it fairly easy to solder a ribbon cable to the filter pins on the back side of the board.
I've come to like ribbon cables; they're easy to work with. I can just crimp an IDC connector on one end and attach them to some pin headers. The breakout board itself is just some generic protoboard, and has said pin headers and two female 8-pin mini-DIN connectors.
It's not ideal. The ribbon cable wires are fragile and cold easily be pulled off the motherboard. But hopefully this will restore the last lost functionally for this poor tortured Mac Plus motherboard.
I plan to include the Franken-Plus in my exhibit for VCF Southwest in Richardson, Texas this weekend (23-25 June 2023). If you're in the area, definitely stop by; it's shaping up to be a great show.

Alright, kids, my unhinged data gathering about EVs has culminated in a google sheet that is now, to the best of my knowledge, complete. I have looked at every active car manufacturer in the US, their EVs (if they have any), their plug-in hybrids (if they have any) (also, referred to as PHEVs), their base price, their max price (meaning, I went in to their build function and added all the shit to it I possibly could), their minimum range, maximum available range, and the type of vehicle. For PHEVs, this included electric-only range, total range, and MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent).

First of all: Why the hell did I do this?
Great question. I got passed on the road about a month ago by a pack of Lucid Air test drive vehicles. It was a rare instance of me not recognizing a vehicle--I literally work with them every day to make a living, and I consider myself to be pretty acquainted with the available auto manufacturers in the US. So, I looked them up, and it's a new EV brand, which might be a good thing vis a vis bringing more players to the market and all that jazz... but their base MSRP is fucking $87,000. I got so mad about the fact that manufacturers just keep bringing luxury EVs to the market and not like, consumer-level, reasonably priced EVs that I decided to compile this list of information to... well. To be fair I don't know what I was hoping to accomplish with this. At most, prove a point, I guess?
With that out of the way... what did we learn from this?
No more electric SUV options. Society has progressed past the need for more electric SUV options.
I compiled information on a grand total of 40 current EV models, 43 future EV models, 35 current PHEV models, and uh... 2 future PHEV models. Of those, 34 current EVs, 26 future EVs, 23 current PHEVs, and 1 of the future PHEVs were SUVs. That's 70%. Meanwhile, we have (in all four categories) 1 lone cargo van/work vehicle, 10 coupes, 8 pickup trucks, 1 hatchback, 1 minivan, 29 sedans, 3 wagons, and 1 microbus (VW ID. Buzz my beloved). And listen, don't get me wrong: SUVs are great. They're versatile (the U in SUV is for 'utility' after all!) and they're filling the niche that minivans once did, but damn, 70% of the market? Come ON guys. We're more interesting than that, I hope.
Are you not rich? Want an EV? Too bad.
The average base MSRP for an EV in the US right now is $65,556. Are you kidding me? The average base MSRP for the future EVs I found information on is $86,377. The PHEVs include some performance/ultra-luxury brands because of the fact electric motors provide a lot of torque and are desirable in some performance vehicles, so even taking those out, the average base MSRP of a PHEV is $63,442.
The superlatives
Current EVs
First, the good superlatives:
Lowest base MSRP & max price both go to the Chevy Bolt EV, ranging from $26,500 to $34,000. (sedan, range around 259 miles)
Highest range (unfortunately) goes to the Lucid Air, the vehicle that started me on this whole thing. The minimum range is 410 miles, which is the highest minimum range available. The maximum range is 516 miles, blowing the Tesla Model S extended range out of the water by 111 miles. (sedan, price ranges from $87,400 to $249,000).
Now, the bad superlatives
Highest base MSRP goes to the Audi RS e-tron GT, at a whopping $143,900. This beats our highest maximum price model's base MSRP by $2,700. (sedan, range around 232)
Highest maximum price goes to the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo at $304,000. Fun fact: $30,000 of that maximum price is for custom paint. (wagon, range from 222-235 miles)
Lowest range goes to the Mazda MX-30 with a measly 100 miles of range. The next lowest range, the Ford E-Transit, a cargo van, gets 108! This vehicle is currently only available in California. (SUV, price ranges from $34,110 to $43,000)
Current PHEVs
Good superlatives
Highest electric only range goes to Land Rover, both the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport, with 51 miles. (SUV, MPGe for both is 42, total range for both is 480, price for the Range Rover Sport ranges from $118,200 to $159,000, and price for the Range Rover Sport ranges from $142,575 tp $170,000).
Highest total range, best MPGe, AND lowest base MSRP goes to the Toyota Prius Prime, with 640 miles of total range and a whopping 133 MPGe. Its base MSRP is $32,350. (sedan, electric only range is 44 miles, maximum price is $50,000)
Lowest maximum price goes to the Kia Niro, which will only let you spend $44,000 on it. (SUV, base MSRP $33,840, electric only range 33 miles, total range 560, MPGe 108)
Bad superlatives (a lot of ties for this one, folks)
Worst total range: a tie between the BMW XM and the MINI Countryman, both at 300 miles. (BMW XM: SUV, 30 miles electric only range, 46 MPGe, costs between $159,00 and $186,000. MINI Countryman: Sedan, 17 miles electric only range, 73 MPGe, costs around $41,000)
Worst electric only range is a tie between the Ferrari 296 and Ferrari SF90, both at 15 miles. I have thoughts (derogatory) about these models, but I'll save them. (both coupes; both 330 miles total range; 296 gets 47 MPGe, SF90 gets 51 MPGe. Base MSRP for the 296 is $237,500. I'll get to the SF90 in a moment,)
Worst MPGe goes to the McLaren Artura at 39 MPGe. (Coupe, 330 total range, 19 miles electric only range, base MSRP $237,500)
The highest listed maximum price goes to the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid, at $295,815. (Sedan, 19 miles electric-only range, 480 miles total range, 52 MPGe, base MSRP is $109,000.)
The highest base MSRP goes, once again, to the Ferrari SF90 at $524,815. Just reading that number hurts me.
Finally, a five-way tie for the most likely to have the highest actual maximum price, because they're cowards and don't put their pricing on their websites. These are the Ferrari SF90, the Ferrari 296, the Bentley Flying Spur, the Bentley Bentayga, and the McLaren Artura. (Bentley Flying Spur: Sedan, 26 miles electric-only range, 500 miles total range, 46 MPGe, base MSRP $217,525. Bentayga: SUV, 29 miles electric only range, 448 total range, 45 MPGe, base MSRP $200,025).
I'm not going to do any superlatives for future vehicles because I don't want to jump the gun on any judgements. Plus, with some of them the MSRPs are just like... educated guesses. Anyway, I have the whole google sheet here if you wanna poke around.
What conclusions can we draw from this?
I appreciate that the US wants to regulate new car sales sooner rather than later to encourage new EV sales in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly. However, until the average price for a new EV comes down significantly, more and more people are going to be in the used car market whether they want to be or not. Beyond that, we simply do not have the infrastructure for this. There are gas stations on damn near every corner, but the closest charging station to me is 2 miles away, and even that's a Tesla Supercharger, so it's only useful if you have a Tesla. The closest non-Tesla charger is 4 miles away. Sure, you can plug it in at home, but in order for that to be done at more than a snail's pace, you need to have it specially installed which is an additional cost that people may not be able to afford.
Additionally, it's interesting to me that being environmentally friendly is still such a huge privilege that's seemingly marketed towards wealthy people, yet huge corporations and the ultrawealthy people actually polluting our planet continue to offload the blame onto poor people for using single use plastics. It's a bizarre paradox.
In conclusion, car manufacturers need to get their shit together so more people can buy EVs at a price that isn't insane. Thank you goodbye

Hot eyes on the white pearl body!
The FY32 Cima has an orthodox and formal style. Length x Width x Height = 4945 x 1780 x 1435. The square form of the 5m big body is quite strong. With its imposing body fully painted in white pearl, and equipped with Impul front and rear aero bumpers, side steps, and rear spoiler, the Impal Cima is even more fearless and powerful. The wide front aero bumper is blacked out and the grille stands out. The specially made rear spoiler is also the best match for the simple rear view.
What's more, the feet are sharpened by a combination of Bridgestone G-grid and Impul RS aluminum. The car I test drove was a 4-year Type II-based Impul Cima, and the interior is a super-luxury version with full-featured navigation, airbags, electric seats on both sides, and active suspension.
The 4.1L V8 engine that generates 270PS is very smooth and powerful. It accelerates easily from over 100 km, and is one of the best at high-speed cruising. The BSG grid with high-grip tires handles high-level cornering with ease. What is impressive is its quietness. The quietness of about 2000 revolutions at 100km/h will make you addicted once you get on.
