Weirdest thing about going through and rewriting aspects of the story of V:LD was finding out real early on in order to move forward doing anything, me and my friend had to actually reestablish what the fuck Quintessence even was and how it worked.

Cause apparently its life force, the force tm starwars, healing magic, the spirit of space lions, ship fuel, radiation from meteors and transdimensional portals and everything in between??? And is also just called "the fifth essence" essentially

Like I'm aware soft magic systems are things, but even while watching the show, this was confusing in a way that felt unnecessary

Imagine being somewhat inspired by/written by the people that made avatar and korra (shows that have a relatively simple and easy to understand magic system with fairly clear rules on how to follow them - no matter how upset my friend was about Toph metalbending) and having a magic system this vague and confusing

I feel like if I rewrote this thing, the first point I'm making is having Allura try to explain Quintessence in slightly more detail to Pidge and Hunk and having them lose their minds over it
