Several years ago I briefly worked in the warehouse of a nondescript extremely large e-commerce company. I had no other options for employment but desperately needed money. Turnover was like 150%. I worked from something like 7pm to 5am, my commute was 50 minutes each way and before I got paid I didn't even have the cash for enough gas to get home one night and had to bum $10 off of my kid sibling (this is all to give you an idea of my abysmal mental state while employed here.) You're not allowed to do anything besides your job, no music or anything and they track your movement on cameras so you can't even take a breather. The job is real monotonous, you get sent boxes of items of random sizes and you have to put the items into shelves of varying sizes and the shelves come to you, you don't walk to them. Because the company tracks the rate at which you put items on these shelves, many small items are desirable because you can put a lot of them in quickly. Everything about the place seems almost designed intentionally to break you mentally and turn you into a robot. So I'm about 6 or 7 hours into my shift, feeling on the verge of a mental collapse, and up comes a container with a bunch of small white boxes, bout half the size of a deck of cards. No labels. Great, I'm already happy about whatever these things are. So I go to scan them in, and it gives you the name of the item and a little picture. Sasuke Penis Costume. What? Sasuke Penis Costume. A picture of that red cloud robe from Naruto and one of the headbands with the metal plate on it. I'm thinking, there's no way. What is a penis costume? Am I hallucinating this? And there's so many of them, literally about a hundred, and I know I'm going to be spending at least an hour with Sasuke Penis Costume, there's so many and they're so small, I'm already excited about the potential efficiency of these, and then I see it's Sasuke Penis Costume? So the entire shift I'm like, trying to not put these things away too quick, because honestly I'm starting to build a kind of kinship with them. This is quite literally the most exciting thing to happen to me during my whole 2 week employment at the warehouse. I started to see Sasuke Penis Costume as a friend, some reminder of the outside world, a reminder of the humanity I was becoming so unfamiliar with, a reminder the world contained comedy, art, anime, and penis. I really couldn't tell you if I ended up putting all of them away, the last thing I remember is my desperate need to look these items up when I got home. I needed a link to send to my friends for when I told them this riveting story. I learned that the costume is called the Akatsuki cloak in my fervent search for the item, and wouldn't you know it, absolutely zero trace of these things exists online. Not on the e-commerce website, not on any specialized penis-costume websites (whose existence I was not privvy to prior to this incident) and no third-party retailer has these. Not even Google images will show me the hypothetical existence of Sasuke Penis Costume. Every few months I look it up, trying to find evidence that it can be bought, that any of this was ever real. My bond, my friendship, and dare I say even love for Sasuke Penis Costume feels as tangible as the boxes they came in, and yet the universe will give me no closure of their fate. Less and less frequently I search for them, each time becoming more and more discouraged that I will ever find them, but unlike their substance on this earth, one thing is inarguably certain. Sasuke Penis Costume exists to me, and it will live on firmly and resolutely within my memory and within my heart.

Give yourself a short bio. Reblog at least one thing, just to prove that there's a real person behind the wheel.
Even if you just want to lurk for a while, posting quick just to say "real blog, just lurking" separates you from the frequently high volume of mass-purchased spam blogs built by algorithm. Enough people are wary of this now that you might be being inadvertently blocked/reported by people you follow (I generally leave blank blogs alone unless they start blogging about e-commerce or pr0n, but many people have a harder trigger finger: I come prebuilt with the experience of having lurked for a long time when I first joined tumblr way back in 2011, because I wasn't sure if reblogging was...allowed: it is, in case you were unsure. People fucking love when you reblog their posts unless they have specifically requested that you don't or it's a personal post about their individual lives—as long as you're not taking a screenshot and making your own post, you're still well within courtesy on tumblr).

Like any good RomCom, it begins with a bad a bad pickup line in a coffee shop.
"If I have four quarters to give to the four prettiest women in the world, you would have a dollar!"
You press your lips into a straight line, mustering every bit of willpower not to laugh the longer the woman in front of you remains silent and the more sweat dripping down the cashier's neck.
"Are you saying that I'm only worth a dollar?"
Oh shit, oh shit. You just get chills running down your spine. Abort! Abort! Diving underneath a nearby table sounds a lot better than your initial order for coffee and blueberry muffins. But like watching a trainwreck, your feet are firmly planted on the ground due to morbid curiosity. How on earth is the cashier going to save his skin from this? Judging from his 'deer in a headlight' expression, you have very little hope for him.
"N-No! I just, uh, wait. Lemme try that again - " Your jaw is on the floor. Is he seriously going to try - "I'm confused. I thought happiness started with H, but mine starts with U."
"Does anyone ever tell you that you have dyslexia?"
"Yeesh, I'm just trying to give a compliment, sweetheart. You don't have to be so high and mighty about it."
"And I'm just trying to get my tea, but I guess we're both disappointed."
Stares. Nothing but silent stares from the both of them. It's a good thing that the cafe is empty right now because the queue will not be moving anytime soon. Fortunately, your boyfriend emerges from the storage at the back to break the awkward tension.
"What the - Castin, go get her order already. The lunch rush is gonna hit us in half an hour and we'll die if we don't take out the breads by then."
The cashier rolls his eyes and suddenly smirks. "Just for that, I'm gonna add extra sugar to your black tea."
The woman in front of you hurries over to the side, scolding him for his blatant disrespect only for her voice to be drowned out by the tea machines. Watching her trying to throw hands from across the counters is hilarious.
"Hey, Cupcake. Done with classes for the day?" Warren greets, now manning the cash registry. He looks good with the sleeves of his favourite flannel shirt rolled up and an adorable blue apron tied around the waist. Although if you asked him, he'd much prefer working without a shirt. It gets more customers, that's what he likes to say.
"All done. That's why I like Mondays. No more lecturers after 11 AM." You say in a sing-song voice. "And you know what that means?"
"My Cupcake will be chilling with me until the end of the shift?" Warren guesses with a beaming grin.
"You know it! I love catching up with my schoolwork here. The muffins are to die for. Speaking of which..."
"I'll get it ready for, ya. With your usuals too?"
"Yes, please."
The shop is perfectly located between two of the biggest universities in the country. A branch of the e-commerce university from Steelgate and the Imperial Academy for All. Needless to say, students flock here on a regular basis while those like Warren and Castin are taking a gap year to fatten up their funds for future tuition.
So it's not strange to see a student dropping up for a quick pick me up. What's strange is the same woman from yesterday returning once more.
"Welcome to Desmond Coffee & Cafe! How can I - Oh. Back so soon, sweetheart?"
"I'd rather you use my name instead of that inane term of endearment turn insult, Hammer."
"Well then, pray tell; what's your name?"
"It's Celica. The same one you've written on my cups for the last month, remember?"
"Right, right. And do you even bother to remember my name, Celica?"
"How can not? You're the most obnoxious quarterback and foreign exchange student from Intacia."
"C'mon~ It's alright to say it. Names don't bite~"

It was a windy April the first time you decided to shield yourself in a small restaurant on your new neighborhood. You had recently moved into town, and you didn't know your surroundings very well, considering how busy you were.
As a nurse, you got use to your new job and late shifts over the last few week, but have never given yourself some time to appreciate the local commerce.
The restaurant was tiny, 10 tables at maximum. It had a book nook flare, serving wine, cheese plates and homemade pasta. The light was dim and the front of the store held a big window towards the calm street pass it. On the afternoon it worked as a semi cafe-wine bar, and you quickly turned that place on your crossword/sudoku bar for your Tuesdays evening.
A few weeks after your routine had settled, you were sitting by the window when you heard the door. Usually you pay no mind, but the crossword was proven itself a challenge so you humpfed and kept checking your surroundings. That was when you first saw her. A red hair, green eyes, fair skin, strong woman.
She came in with a closed expression which turned to a welcoming smile as she got to the counter to acknowledge the old lady who owned the place. You couldn't hear what she said, but they seemed friendly.
Over the next Tuesdays you frequently saw the woman there. Always in the same seat, with a book and a glass of red wine. Some days she was cranky and hard, another she was light as a breeze. Yes, you started to anticipate Tuesdays in a way you couldn't explain - that woman was consuming every spare time you had.
She caught you staring at her more than a few times, and you had the sensation of her staring back at you a few other. Not that you had the guts to do anything about it, you were a perfect romantic coward.

The woman was there again. She had been there for the last couple of months, every week. She became a regular when I was on a mission, according to Susan - the owner. She always sat there, on the seat that was my spot, and did her crosswords.
The first time I saw her there, I was just irritated with her stealing the window. Susan even offered to gently tell the regular that I was there first, but I couldn't find in my heart to do it. She always came in looking troubled, did her little crosswords and leave humming. She was beautiful and her reflexes back to the window dim light was a sight I wanted to commit to memory.
I found myself lost in my book every Tuesday. The woman captivated me and, I am even embarrassed to admit, I might have stalked her a bit. Not in the creepy way!I tried to focus on listening to her thoughts every once in a while. But goddammit, the woman was an immigrant and her thoughts were in... Spanish? Portuguese? Italian? I don't know. She thought often about her crosswords answers and what it seemed to be remarks about people. I couldn't quite understand it and that got me frustrated. So frustrated that I might have "googled her" - as in the Avenger's Stark way.
She was Y/N, 31 yo, nurse, Brazilian, 5 years living in Canada, recently moved in NY. So simple. And easy. And light. How could I have a crush like a teenager on someone who I haven't even spoken to?
It was already August when her thoughts finally became clear to me. She was making a English crossword. Oh, sorry, let me correct that. She was trying and failing hard to do a English crossword. That was funny. She did the hardest Portuguese one, and she was struggling with " 5 letters - the popes hat". < Come on, 'M-I-T-E-R'. You can do it. > she was stubborn, you quickly realized. She didn't look it up or took a quick look in the answer sheet. She stayed there for 2 hours trying to do all the other ones and find it out letter by letter.
The week after that I had a mission and couldn't go to the restaurant. Jesus, can you believe I missed the woman? How is that even possible. I did punch one or two guys a little harder than needed when I thought about her siting there alone as someone with actual guts hit on her. Argh! Ops, I punched someone again. "I am going to do something about it next week"

The first thing you noticed that day was that it felt weird. The red haired wasn't there. After months of sharing the same routine, you felt her absence like a hollow feeling in your chest. Susan told you that Wanda - that was her name- often traveled and stayed out of town sometimes for months. It got you anxious thinking about not seeing her for that long. You craved her, her perfume, her giggles to herself, her polite nod towards you everytime you were caught staring.
She didn't come back for 2 other weeks, and your crossword was still killing you. You'd decided to make a English book, but it was so hard, that you were secretly hoping your wine glass would fall and ruin it, so you had an excuse to buy another -Portuguese- one.
"Miter" you heard above you. You turned pissed of. How dare this stranger just give you the answer you have been looking for weeks? Your pride was hurt and... the mothafucker was right! You wrote down the answer before taking a deep breath and turning to the stranger, you were ready to peel her down when you looked up and found the red haired with a playful smile. God, she was even more beautiful from this close.
"T-thank you" - You stuttered
"I am sorry. I just couldn't bare to watch you frown down that word for another Tuesday" She giggled "I thought you would be done with it after 3 weeks" She grinned.
She still had her purse on, so you knew she had just came into the restaurant and haven't sat down to her usual spot yet.
"Well, I would get it eventually." You shrugged it off with a small smile " but since you are here.... Do you happen to know a three word 'French delicatessen' that starts with an T?"
She smiled "I do. But you have to pay me a wine first"

Gopuff is part of a class of startups that soared during the pandemic, trying to solve a logistics and math puzzle that’s dogged Silicon Valley for decades: Can an e-commerce company whisk products to your house in under an hour? And more important: Can it actually make money doing so?
Flying cars and nuclear fusion it certainly isn’t. But the problem has confounded nearly everyone who’s tried to solve it, starting in the 1990s with Kozmo.com, whose bike messengers swarmed New York and a handful of other cities, offering free one-hour delivery of everything from magazines to 16-ounce Cokes, before it was vaporized in the dot-com crash. Two decades later, Covid-19 lockdowns created the perfect conditions for the model to finally work—billions of people trapped at home, desperate to have anything and everything delivered as quickly as possible, for almost any price. Nearly $10 billion of venture capital gushed into so-called quick commerce companies like Gopuff and the Istanbul-based Getir in 2021, according to PitchBook Data Inc. That didn’t include the exponential growth of delivery apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Instacart, which ferried food from restaurants and supermarkets. Meanwhile, the biggest deliverer of all, Amazon.com Inc., was notching a 40% annual growth rate.
Gopuff, which had been kicking around since 2013, emerged with a different strategy than its DoorDash ilk, mostly middlemen apps that relied on a contract workforce and often skimmed a margin of up to 40% from the restaurants and retailers they made deliveries for. Instead, Gopuff had an Amazon-like approach of storing and stocking products in its own mini warehouses staffed by full-time employees, then using contractors to deliver products to people’s doorstep for $1.95 an order. Its founders, Ilishayev and Yakir Gola, each now 29, got to know each other when they were undergrads at Drexel University, where they started an online business selling hookahs and other smoking paraphernalia to other college kids (early slogan: “Puffin’ has never been this easy”). It wasn’t until 2015 that they entered the booze business, charging an additional $2 fee per order for alcohol, and gradually expanded their assortment and ambition.
By early 2020, Gopuff had 165 warehouses covering some 600 US cities. Then, in the span of two years, the startup raised an astounding $3 billion in venture capital from the likes of SoftBank Group Corp.’s infamous Vision Fund, acquired the 28-year-old liquor retailer BevMo!, and expanded into Europe by buying two smaller competitors. By 2021 its valuation had risen to a hyperbolic $15 billion, and the founders had cashed out by selling some of their shares to investors. They bought a private plane and decamped from Philadelphia to intracoastal mansions in Miami.
