So I’ve been watching the gen 4 Pokémon anime and I just thought Tumblr would be interested to know that there’s an episode where a mad scientist makes a machine that makes Piplup and Pikachu gay.

Finished DP Galactic Battles
wow Cyrus and Pokemon Hunter J and all her crew just straight up fucking died, huh
I like the fanon that Mars is one of Giovanni's kids
New James is still too whiny and subdued but at long last he's finally making James noises. Nowhere near as much as he should be, mind.
oh god Noodles! Roamin' Off. Oh god. Meowth and Jessie decide to say FUCKIT and follow their dreams, and then James does something dangerous and stupid and the two of them hear about it separately and go get him. They're a FAMILY damn it
Meowth. Built. A robot. Giovanni. That pets him.
Poor sad git.
I fucking love that Jessie is winning Pokemon contests and consistently getting to the second stage. I love it as a concept, it gives Team Rocket more to do than just try to steal Pikachu.
Ash to Paul: blah blah blah you have to build a relationship with your Pokemon and believe in them etc. etc.
Me playing Pokemon Go! and dumping every Pokemon that isn't 2 stars or higher: hmmm? what's that now?

What is your favorite Pokémon story???
Hey there anon! Ooh this is great and tough question. There's so many ways I could answer this. Do I like games, anime or manga overall? What are my favorite stories from all each of the three main media? I'm going to answer it by each universe since I have followed all 3 to some extent I'll start with the games and I'd honestly say the Gen 5 series is probably my favorite story and that's talking both BW and BW2. I've said this before but I usually don't care for the villainous teams all that much but Team Plasma definitely one of the (as of Scarlet/Violet) four teams I actually enjoyed (Others being Rocket, Skull and now Team Star). The way they were integrated into the story from the beginning to the end was really well done. That and I love it when the antagonists make you think about the established rules of the verse (Humans and Pokemon should work together...shouldn't they?). Plus seeing the individual arcs of Bianca, Cheren, N and Hugh were really touching to see. The timeskip between BW and BW2 helped a lot IMO and it was great to see time being acknowledged since that doesn't happen often in the Pokemon universe. For the anime, my favorite story would probably be the DP arc. I really loved how Dawn felt like a leading protagonist alongside Ash which was a first for the series (May walked so Dawn could run, and Dawn's also had clear impacts on Goh becoming a co-protagonist as well). The Paul vs Ash rivalry was honestly one of the best rivalries ever (even there were a few parts I wish Paul had gotten more chastising). And honestly while I didn't care for a lot of the Sinnoh Cast in games (admittedly the gen 4 games are my least favorite) the anime really made them shine and I adore all of the Sinnoh casts' anime personas. Also Gary and May coming back was a welcome treat. And I can't forget about the Team Galactic arc. Like I said earlier, I'm not a big fan of most of the evil team stories and Team Galactic gamewise is my least favorite. But the anime managed to really make me enjoy their arc with the inclusion of Hunter J and also allowing the Lake Trio to bond to Ash, Dawn and Brock and seeing Cynthia and Looker take even more active roles.
And then to round out things for the manga I would say my favorite arc from there would be the Ruby and Sapphire arc. I really loved the whole 80 day challenge and how Ruby was the one to do contests and Sapphire was the one to partake in the gym challenge.. It was a nice change of pace since up until that time I had been mainly an anime enjoyer so while I adored Ash and May, it was nice to see girls partake in battles and the guys partake in contests. Plus since Emerald was the first ever mainline game that I was able to complete as a child it was really nice to see the Team Aqua and Team Magma clash shown in a more narrative format (and in an overall better way than how the anime handled their plot). Seeing Steven and Wallace and the Elite Four get involved? It was amazing. Even Wally getting a chance to help out? So cool!

Auguste is a good kid, kleptomania notwithstanding
[January 14-15, 2023]
{Haji:}
So getting through the Cyrus fight and... These two [Cyrus and Auguste] really have a weird relationship
See, since we always played Platinum, the hosts usually run into Cyrus more frequently and with rising hostility. You know from his intro at the lake that he's up to something. It's great build up for a villain.
But in DP, the pair are... Curious about each other. Auguste didn't meet Cyrus until Mt. Coronet and even then the guy was just telling about the mountain, some of the legends even. Auguste may think he's a weirdo but not much different from anyone else he'd met by that point.
And since there's no fight in Celestic Town, it's funny that Auguste chased off the goon and Cyrus came over all like "What happened here?"
"Ah. This guy was causing trouble at the shrine here and..."
"I see. I sense a meaningless struggle happened here. Such things wouldn't happen if everyone could step back and look at the universe from a bigger perspective. Incidentally, have we met before?"
So while in Platinum reaching his office is like Hecks yeah! It's go time! With Cyrus taunting the protag and dragging his own lackeys through the mud, here Auguste has been running the maze and kicking tail and unlocks the door like he's done several times and then... Oh. It's Cyrus. Hello?
Like I'm sure the kid has figured out somewhere along the way Cyrus is with Galactic, but there's been little to tell him Cyrus is the one running the dang thing (then again, he's not the brightest host we've had).
And in turn, Cyrus looks at this little runt he's become acquainted with on the road and going "you? You're the one I keep hearing about???"
I mean, he doesn't lose his cool until the end of his pre-battle speech, but in this dialogue he makes it sound like he feels almost betrayed by the kid since it's like "I didn't expect it would be a child. My commanders have had a hard time with you... [Coldly] You're here for the Spirits, aren't you? Why? They have nothing to do with you." Like why should you care, sir? For uh... Someone who claims he doesn't care
And then after the battle, he shows the way to the warp panel in all cases but here he's like "You can take this panel to reach the Lake Pokemon, I'm going to Mt Coronet. Yes, the same place you and I first met. I will ascend the mountain and end everything. No, a new beginning for everything" and looking at the line in Platinum he's just like "I will climb the mountain where destiny awaits. I will create my new world" which just feels less poetic. XD
Also I'm not sure if we ever faced him at the Battle Tower in post game, but I find it funny on the quotes page he's all like "Hello again. It seems our fates have intertwined. But here I will break that bond!" Just admit something in you actually likes the kid XD
{Newbie:}
considering we only unlocked the battle tower in the BD revisit, probably not
{Haji:}
Makes sense. So it wouldn't come up, just kind of funny to me
I think the other thing that makes their dynamic fascinating is Cyrus has probably never met someone like Auguste. Everyone he's met has either been like-minded or annoying in their differences from what he might think is ideal. In my head this often extends to the hosts too since he thinks he can reason with those like Izzy and Karma, in their focused and serious nature, heck initially he probably saw a lot of his younger self in Napoleon, and then there's Pepe at the opposite end of the spectrum who is SO different it's infuriating how this anxious, faith-driven, sentimental sap has caused them so much trouble when everything from the way he talks to the way he depends on those around him says he should be weak. He's exactly the kind of person Cyrus can't reason with and can't understand and can't seem to squash.
And then there's Auguste who Cyrus can't relate to, but is still intrigued by.
And I'm still not sure why myself, but I'm kiiinda curious to analyze it more now that I've had this scene come up in game. I've never played DP so I didn't know how different things were between versions
But part of me wants to say Cyrus is curious because of just how free Auguste seems to be. He's not burdened by his family, he's very much against society, he goes where he wants when he wants (despite the calls for urgency),  and despite how much he clearly loves to help people, he also doesn't seem toooo miffed when others get hurt. He's someone who doesn't suppress his emotions, he's very much in control of them which allows him to keep some distance when things go bad. He's upset but about things that have happened but he never became jaded about it. Take some time to recover, then get back to business. And sure, as he gets older some of that may fade but right now he's this equally weird kid who would honestly listen to Cyrus for a while and be like "I don't know about that but..." and not judge him just have them be equally confused and fascinated how the other functions. 😂
At least that's the current thought
(this doesn't help the ongoing joke in my head as he gets older that Auguste?? You're not a bad guy, why do you keep hanging out with "villains"?)
{Popia140:}
Ooh, I think the idea of Auguste being in complete control of his emotions around other people sorta meshes with my headcanon of him having fallen into a depression in the past, but now, since he has control of his life, he REALLY means it with his emotions- yes, he does have negative thoughts towards himself, but he can be totally calm around others and things that are not in his control
{Haji:}
Exactly. He has his regrets, but few would know it if they didn't already know what he's been through. But he's not stoic about either. He'll either change the subject or if it's something he's okay with, he'll retell the tale with excitement and flourish how it's just one of his many adventures. Or he might shrug it off. Depends on which incident they heard about
{Popia140:}
Auguste, I feel, is one of the most mentally strong of the group, imo
{Haji:}
Probably. Which is also kind of impressive because of how young he is in my head.
{Popia140:}
Honestly, I didn’t really know what was the big thing that made him depressed in the past (probably because I didn’t know what to put, lol)
I headcanon him as like, 17-18
{Haji:}
I have him around 11-14 somewhere in that range 😂
He's a little pickpocket working on up the ladder to conartist :LUL: they grow up so fast
{Popia140:}
But I guess one of the big events [that made him depressed] would be a public failure- I imagined him to be some sort of performer, and his mom put a lot of pressure on him for winning the big prize and being the best performer, but massively screwed up during the big finishing move that involved bird Pokémon, and broke his ankle in the process- not the greatest way to go out and quit Pokémon Contests :BibleThump:
{Haji:}
Awww
{Popia140:}
Which could explain his hesitance for bird Pokémon and Pokémon contests
{Haji:}
Yeah
{Popia140:}
And one of the most saddest parts was that while he was performing that big move, he actually felt some happiness in the spotlight instead of sneaking around as usual like he does
{Haji:}
My hc is he's got some mother issues. He and "Mom" (I don't think she got a name in DP?) don’t get along very much, and part of that is because of her first love being the spotlight, second on wistful memories of her time in it, and maybe him in third. She does care, but seeing how he's a troubled middle school dropout who gets his thrills from getting "free" stuff, she doesn't really talk about him much to her friends. She worries about him, they've had talks before, but she's kind of embarrassed by him
Worst trouble is, he knows it. He'd like to make her proud of him one of these days, but that's just not... Him? He could try to be what she wants and be miserable about it, or he can just do what he's good at, and let her have her spotlight without him. Part of the reason he even got into the business was to avoid going home. He still comes home though when he needs a place but Barry legit didn't know that often times when Auguste crashes at his place or they meet up at the lake and stuff, it's because he's not been home in like a week.
It's alright though. Odds are, mom isn't home anyway
I would say he cleans up eventually but PFFFFFFHAHAHA adult hcs aren't much better
{Popia140:}
It’s the “being a Pokémon trainer” business, right?
{Haji:}
.... .... .... Sure. :Pika:
{Popia140:}
I honestly don’t know :BibleThump:
oh wait its gotta be the thieving biz
{Haji:}
Yeah. XD
Which started in day 1 because DP differences had him steal a Pokemon from Rowan to defend himself and chat just ran with it throughout the rest of the run.
Including this even this late in the game made me laugh it's still going
[Screenshot of chat in which Twitch user Abstrection says ‘go pick pocket that guy’]
Tumblr media
{Popia140:}
:LUL:
{Haji:}
We got to our first door and found out we didn't have the key, so Chat was teasing about going to nearest Grunt we dodged earlier
{Popia140:}
The Voices: being a bad influence
Auguste: okay with it, but only for stealing
{Haji:}
Only bad people, right?
Voices: ... Riiiighht. [Teaches Thief to Pika]
And yeah, Auguste is actually a good kid. I'd say he has ways of getting what he wants, but he's not manipulative or anything. Just a bit of a liar with sticky fingers.
{captwaddledoo:}
gina aceattorney...
{Haji:}
I'm not familiar with the name
{captwaddledoo:}
she's from the great ace attorney games. she's also a pickpocket
{Haji:}
Ah okay XD
But yeah, Rowan at first took the kid under his wing since he can see Auguste was in need of some guidance. Besides, school wasn't for him, maybe he's more of a hands-on learner. Put him to work in the fields and he may be able to turn his life around. :Burrito1:
But then game events happened
And it's not like Rowan has given up on him, quite the opposite I like to think Auguste does look up to him as a parental figure and has come to his and Dawn's rescue on more than one occasion. It's just Rowan that as things with Team Galactic has played out, poor Rowan doesn't want to encourage this, but they can all agree they may need to utilize Auguste's "skill set".
He still face palms at his student's shenanigans as Auguste gets older. He's not claiming him. Nope. Totally not calling on him for help with Kanto stuff pre- Gauntlet. Deeeefinitely didn't help this kid secure a place in Kalos. :Kappa:

@pepsi-al Making a separate post regarding your and Mattress's exchange about Pokemon ratings, since I can't reblog the latter directly:
pepsi-al: themattress: Here are the regular ratings averages for the Pokeani shows following the OS (all you need to know about that is that it was perpetual highs in Kanto, Orange Islands and early Johto, and then the biggest rating drop in the franchise happened during the rest of Johto.) AG: 1 - 35 (Series Premiere — May’s First Contest) = 9.0 36 - 80 (Musuem Theft — May’s Fourth Contest) = 8.0 / 7.0 81 - 131 (Resumed Fillers — Hoenn League) = 6.0 132 - 192 (Battle Frontier) = 6.0 / 5.0 DP: 1 - 85 (Series Premiere — Ash vs. Crasher Wake) = 7.0 86 - 141 (Summer School arc — Meeting Palmer) = 6.0 / 5.0 142 - 152 (Evil Togepi — Team Galactic Finale) = 7.0 153 - 170 (Resumed Fillers — Meeting Bertha) = 6.0 171 - 191 (Dawn gets Togekiss — Series Finale) = 5.0 BW: 1 - 60 (Series Premiere — Milos Island) = 6.0 / 5.0 61 - 82 (Ash vs. Clay — Pokewood Studios) = 4.0 83 - 108 (Ash vs. Roxie — Unova League) = 6.0 / 5.0 109 - 122 (Episode N) = 4.0 123 - 142 (Decalore Adventures) = 3.0 XY: 1- 44 (Series Premiere — Ash vs. Korrina) = 5.0 45 - 66 (Serena Gets a Goal — Return to Lumiose City) = 4.0 67 - 122 (Ash vs. Clemont — Ash vs. Wulfric) = 3.0 123 - 141 (Kalos League — Series Finale) = 2.0 Basically, DP and BW were successful, AG and XY less so. Coincidentally (or not), Gens IV and V were more popular than Gens III and VI. Maybe Gen VII’s popularity will reflect on the ratings for the SM anime…but if it’s popular and the show still bombs, that’ll be interesting. And I saw someone on YouTube just now literally try to point this fact out about XYZ specifically. In the replies he got, there was nothing but reality denial and blind accusations of “hatred”. I just can’t with this fandom, sometimes… As I have said before and will say again, ratings doesn’t necessarily reflect quality or opinion, they reflect interest. I found a chart about it and drew lines for the baseline ratings that would be expected for each series (which is basically a million less that the previous series.) For the most part, the Original Series was well above the line, sinking under only toward the end of Johto but rising back up for the Johto League. Like I noted above, AG remained above water for around 80 episodes before sinking, only having a temporary rise to expected numbers during the Hoenn League before promptly dropping when Battle Frontier, viewed as a “filler” arc, started. DP sagged following the Summer School arc, rose back up around the time of HeartGold/SoulSilver’s release, but then fell again around the time of the Grand Festival and never recovered ‘til the end. BW did just fine for all of its 2010 and 2011 run, but then fell in 2012 until the Black 2/White 2-inspired “Season 2″ rebrand brought the numbers up again….until the Unova League, after which there was a freefall. XY held steady for its first half, then dropped like a stone in its second half. SM, as it turns out, is the most stable the anime’s ever been ratings-wise, the numbers rising to the line then back under over and over again like the tides of the ocean (appropriate!), with the main drop happening in the final year with the change in timeslot and the advent of streaming services providing an alternative way of watching the show. While the series known internationally as Journeys…..yeah, let’s just say there’s a pretty good reason we seem to be looking the end in the face right now. But like I said, ratings reflect interest, not quality. I personally found the second half of XY, especially XY&Z, to be drastically better than the first half, but that doesn’t matter since the target audience in Japan got burned out by the first half that their interest in the whole show dropped completely. That SM never had a comparable plummet speaks volumes about which style the kids preferred, so the producers embracing that style for Journeys makes sense.
Tumblr media
Looking over those ratings, it's pretty clear that if anything, the biggest and most prolonged drop in ratings actually happened in AG, not Johto (even Johto at least tended to stay above the line even if it's undoubtedly less than Orange Islands or Kanto especially). Really acts as a bit of vindication to me that this proves the audience did NOT like Hidaka's decision to axe Misty, ultimately. Sure, AG started off strong, but it ended up tanking quickly, and not due to the fad dying out either. And it being turned into Contest hour at Ash's expense certainly didn't seem to help either, nor the rather cheap wins against Gym Leaders. DP for all its faults at least found a way to stabilize the ratings somewhat, and BW, even though I personally found Ash's character reduction to being an idiot distasteful, at least did overall well ratings wise until the league (which is obviously due to Ash losing his rank).
So, no, Johto, for all its faults, didn't nearly kill the show, and AG most certainly didn't save the show. Quite the opposite, the mishandling of AG if anything is what helped KILL the show ultimately. Sun and Moon, even though I really disagreed with the decision to go all Emperor's New School on it, at least did better by actually trying to do better quality for the most part, not to mention actually have Ash WIN an in-game league and, heck, even bring back Misty and Brock to fix one of the biggest glaring problems with the show (namely, the mishandling of gym leaders).
The AG-stans really need to look at the ratings better, because this definitely doesn't look at all like AG even saved the show at all and if anything is more likely to have driven the show's audience away in a massive number, ultimately leading to Ash being replaced after one mistake too many. You would think they'd learn their lesson after Orange Islands that replacing one of your leads would not work in the long run, but alas... Sure, maybe keeping Misty wouldn't have guaranteed that the ratings would go back to Kanto or Orange Islands level, but at least it would have had AG having its ratings be above the line rather than consistently below it, barely meeting it at best.

Okay so I’ve been in a big Pokemon (specifically Mystery Dungeon) mood so I’ve been listening to the Pokemon anime OPs and fuck it I wanna talk about each one and give my silly little thoughts. They’re in order of release just in case you don’t recognize the names.
Indigo League: Bro it’s fucking Indigo League that shit’s classic for a reason. It hasn’t aged a DAY it goes hard and if you say otherwise we literally cannot be friends anymore I’m sorry. Also it has an extended version which is more of the same vibe but like... It’s like getting more good food. Same flavor but MORE. Orange Island: Honestly underrated in my opinion. It kinda gives off a celebratory vibe? Like everyone ate up Indigo League so much that the Orange Island OP is just the team cheering themselves on. Feels very grand and epic in a way. I like it! Johto Journeys: Bruhhhhhh this song is so good. Not my favorite but GOD it’s up there. It has just such a positive energy and I can’t help but just STIM the life out of me when I hear this. It also leans back on the motif of “Gotta catch ‘em all!” the first OP had so I think that’s just kinda cute.  Johto League Champions: THIS SONG IS PEAK HOLY SHIT THE FUCKING INTRO THING I DUNNO ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC SO I DUNNO THE WORD FOR IT BUT GOD THIS IS LITERALLY HYPE CONDENSED INTO A FUCKING MP4 FILE THIS MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE??? Master Quest: This has a mix of being peak hype, sounding like the cheesiest and corniest shit, and also being the intro song of my favorite Pokemon movie. It’s so good! Not as good at invoking the emotions like Johto League but it’s close! Advanced: This kinda has a really good vibe. It feels like the series is growing with it’s audience a bit and is trying really hard to be “cool” and is honestly succeeding really well. I appreciate the vibes behind this. Also “There’s a hero buried deep inside” I know they mean emotionally but my brain can’t help but go “Bro dig him out??? Can he breathe???” Advanced Challenge: Hmmm, I like it allot. It does lean into a cool “epic” aesthetic. But I don’t have any thoughts past that? It’s just good. lol Advanced Battle: BRO HOLY SHIT, THE ONLY TRUE WAY TO LISTEN TO THIS IS MAX VOLUME! IT’S SO GOOD okay okay no but for real though godddd this is peak Pokemon OP! I have no fucking real thoughts just LISTEN TO IT NOW I DEMAND YOU Battle Frontier: This is pretty good, I do find the lyrics “If you’re strong, you’ll survive, and you’ll keep your dreams alive!” and “It’s the master plan!” kinda... Hello??? Is this weird or am I overly analyzing it? Probably both. lol Diamond and Pearl: I may have not found this season interesting but the second I heard this OP I was READY for PEAK. This song has such a POWERFUL energy that felt like I was about to FIGHT GOD DP Battle Dimension: Ehh, I’m very mixed on this. Some parts feel like a theme you’d hear during a fun adventure (and the focus on the friendship of the cast was nice) but it also lacks a real energy I enjoy from the Pokemon OPs.  DP Galactic Battles: This song genuinely sounds like the end of the series. Like a beautiful swansong! Almost as if they wanted Pokemon to end with a beautiful send off. Besides that it’s genuinely fantastic and I come back to Galactic Battles’ OP allot! Sinnoh League Victors: I’m gonna be honest it’s like... Okay? It’s kinda middling at best. It sure exists you know?  Black & White: The time I hopped back onto the Pokemon anime since it was back to airing on Cartoon Network! I like this one! The start is a bit too slow for my tastes since I prefer the hype but hey when it gets there it really gets there! BW Rival Destinies: I dropped off the show again during this time. It’s pretty alright, I prefer the Black & White OP though, this feels like it doesn’t have the same energy as the previous one. It’s focus on the friendship aspects does add a bit though! BW Adventures in Unova: It sure exists. It takes so long to really get to the punchy parts of the Pokemon aesthetics. I do like it’s focus on the fact that Ash has come so far and stuff. Overall I don’t really care for it.  XY: After dropping off I came back for XY and honestly after so long after Indigo League hearing them essentially come back to that original theme with a twist was amazing! This OP goes hard and high-key so did this season. I recommend XY allot! XY Kalos Quest: It takes so much build up to the good stuff BUT GOD IS THE WAIT WORTH IT! I THINK THIS IS MY FAVORITE OUT OF EVERY OP SERIOUSLY IT’S SO GOOD! I cannot recommend listening to this enough, it’s full of so much life and energy!  XYZ: Again, dropped the show. So I have no nostalgia for this. All in all though I kinda like it. Not enough to sing it’s praises from the rooftops but enough to give it a listen every once in a while. It’s mostly just not my vibe.  Sun & Moon: IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT SHITTY BEACHSIDE TRACK FROM SONIC LOST WORLD IT INCITES ANGER AND HATRED IN MY HEART Sun & Moon Ultra Adventures: This sounds like the kind of song someone would blast out their car with the windows down and make me wanna throw a rock through their window, pass. Sun & Moon Ultra Legends: Better than the previous two OPs so... Good? Journeys The Series: Woo, back to the kind of energy I come to Pokemon OPs for!!! I have yet to watch Journeys but boy howdy this is a nice bouncy vibe!  Master Journeys: Oh shit sorry I accidentally put on my Hatsune Miku music oops (not bad but... Not the vibe I want?) Ultimate Journeys: Way different vibes from basically all the other OPs but honestly I kinda vibe with this. Not what I expect but still something fitting.  I wrote all these in a single listening session AS I WAS LISTENING TO THEM so uhhhhhhhhh hope you enjoyed? (Maybe I’ll make a tier list of them? Who knows.)

why do i feel like ash was actually supposed to fight volkner in full during dp166 and either had him win and then end off pre-league with the grand festival, or have like a half episode battle but loses and the gang decides to knock out the grand festival while ash trains or something, and either way grotle wouldve evolved in that battle, but then they solidly decided that they DID want the grand festival to be over with before the last badge, and somehow the writing made it too awkward for ash to have a half episode battle, so they made this one a team rocket plot and put grotles evolution there as an afterthought, and then pushed back the battle

I liked the episode battling a cute drama from Pokemon DP Galactic Battles with Marilyn, if she met Sean Coover, she would think he’s the most cutest little guy she’s ever seen.

heya, I'm Lucario from Pokemon here (specifically DP Galactic Battles) and I'm looking for Riley!! I'm also super down with talking to anyone else who remembers me (Ash and the crew) from Steeling Peace Of Mind. Come find me @ glow-kid or interact with this post!
