why do i feel like ash was actually supposed to fight volkner in full during dp166 and either had him win and then end off pre-league with the grand festival, or have like a half episode battle but loses and the gang decides to knock out the grand festival while ash trains or something, and either way grotle wouldve evolved in that battle, but then they solidly decided that they DID want the grand festival to be over with before the last badge, and somehow the writing made it too awkward for ash to have a half episode battle, so they made this one a team rocket plot and put grotles evolution there as an afterthought, and then pushed back the battle

#grotles evolution just feels like such an afterthought that it makes me wonder that #like it was on brocks pokemons level of ‘’mmmmmm yeah now seems bout right’’#like it wouldve made more sense to have a half battle with volkner where grotle evolves but ultimately loses #but maybe that was too similar to chimchars evolution or something do they decided to not do that #god the pacing in this last section of sinnoh is just sooooo weird. actually putting it on rewatch has convinced me dp isnt my favorite arc #echoed voice #pokeani lb #just a lot of the problems i had and thr weirdest decisions they cpuldve made are in that 70 episode badge/ribbon gap #like iirc dawn had 4 ribbons at the start of this gap and she only just now got it #in that time weve had ambipom leave in the most rushed stupid way possible; more side characters awkwardly given more attention;#gliscor left in order to have one new pokemon whose arc is underdeveloped and annoying bc its both rushed and dragged out in the time left #chimchar finally evolved and cant stay as monferno for long bc we need infernape action before the climax #the filler plots are less cute and more mind numbing bc absolutely nothing is happening #the good parts are the lake acuity battle and the galactic arc finale but everything else is just more bleh than fun #its the main reason this arc has taken me like. this whole year honestly
