The final version we saw on screen wasn't necessarily how that ship started, so out of these specific ships, which one would you have wanted to see on screen

"Shades of What May Be"
"31 August, 2265:
Kirk's Enterprise escorts the prototype XTP-147 on one of its shakedown cruises. This design represents a possible upgrade to the Constitution Class as a whole; a preliminary refit configuration which, pending review and modification, will be implemented class-wide within a few years."

Phase II Bridge
Phase II - the aborted Star Trek series that was converted into The Motion Picture
The Phase II bridge was almost completed before the order came to alter it for TMP. This posts follows it from concept art, to construction, to conversion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First came the bones of the bridge - the wooden support structure for the walls.
Tumblr media
After that the walls and ceiling surround
Tumblr media
Various wall consoles added
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The helm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A new addition to the bridge compared to TOS was the inclusion of a bridge transporter situated next to the view screen. This would be removed for TMP and replaced with a small console for gravity control.
Tumblr media
Also a tactical display was added - it was to be a large translucent dome with small models of ships to move with the action. Ultimately this was scrapped for a tactical station in TMP.
Tumblr media
The consoles were even gained displays and were wired up
Tumblr media
By the way - here is what the back of a console looked like
Tumblr media
During the conversion to the TMP bridge, some test shots were filmed with the actors wearing the Phase II costumes.
Tumblr media
Finally it became the TMP bridge we all saw on screen
Tumblr media
It would receive a revamp for ST:IV
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sections would late be converted into the TNG battle bridge and redressed into a myriad of other sets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The turbolift door sections would survive into the Enterprise-E bridge for First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis.

Today in the Department of Before They Were Star Trek Stars, William Shatner guest stars in "Cold Hands, Warm Heart," episode 3 of the second season of The Outer Limits (original air date September 26, 1964).
Shatner plays the first astronaut to enter the atmosphere of Venus. While there, he experiences 8 minutes of communications failure and memory loss. Upon returning to Earth he starts having fainting spells, flashback-like nightmares, and a drastically lowered body temperature. It eventually becomes clear that these symptoms are only the beginning of a strange physical transformation.
Other Trek connections:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shatner's physician is played by legendary character actor Malachi Throne. He provided the voice of the Talosian Keeper in the Star Trek pilot "The Cage," and returned as Commodore Mendez in the bookend segments when it was repackaged as the Season 1 episode "The Menagerie." He was also seen as Romulan Senator Pardek in the Next Generation two-parter "Unification," and appeared in James Cawley's fan production Star Trek: Phase II. He was Gene Roddenberry's first choice to play the Enterprise's medical officer, but declined the role.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
James Sikking, who plays a botanist studying Venusian flora in "Cold Hands," also portrayed Captain Styles of USS Excelsior in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. In real life, he was a close friend of Leonard Nimoy.

The Roddenberry Archive
Original Release: 2023
Developer: The Roddenberry Estate, OTOY
Publisher: The Roddenberry Estate
Platform: Browser
Tumblr media
The ultimate bridge explorer is finally here. The Roddenberry Archives brings up digital recreations of a ton of Enterprise bridges, including concept bridges brought to life. The website provides a lot of information about the various different version of the Enterprise, and what the digital recreation of the bridge is based on.
All of these bridges can be explored in full 3D. It uses cloud technology so that you get the full detail no matter what PC you’re running (although it does have to be a desktop with Chromium browser) and can walk around, interact with some objects, sit down in chairs or turn on a fly camera. With the vast amount of detail, it’s a phenomenal experience and it’s amazing to look at the bridges in detail.
Tumblr media
It starts off with a concept bridge: the XCV-330, the ring ship Enterprise seen in pictures in films and in Enterprise. It uses an early concept for the original Enterprise, with a round holographic table and a science room above it before moving on to the NX-01, which I loved seeing in closer detail, even finding doors I never knew were there.
Then onto the NCC-1701, which gets by far the most love. It has versions of the bridge starting with a concept bridge from early production then showing us the set from The Cage, Discovery, Strange New Worlds, the TOS pilot, TOS Season 1, TOS Season 2, Mirror Universe, TOS Season 3, a live action version of the bridge from The Animated Series, the bridge from the cancelled Phase II show, The Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan and two versions of the Kelvin version bridge, each one showing different versions of the bridge.
Tumblr media
Then we get a look at a recreation of a wild concept for a cancelled film called Planet of the Titans, which featured a redesigned Enterprise from Ralph McQuarrie, which ended up inspiring the USS Discovery. It’s a lovely bridge, but not very practical.
From there we see the Enterprise A, B, C, D and E (with the D having multiple extra rooms), all looking absolutely stunning, but it doesn’t end there. It’s fully up to date with the bridges of the Enterprise F and brand new Enterprise G, which looks absolutely glorious. It ends the Enterprises with a new version of the Enterprise J featuring a see-through hull with visible cities, parks and water inside.
But it doesn’t end there, there’s a bonus Voyager bridge, with more to come in the future – hopefully we see the rest of the hero ships as well as other locations on ships, and some non-hero ships as well as alien bridges.
I look forward to the future updates of this software.

Again, cool response to the last question, so I'll let you pick from these options:
And there are things I have fan-fixed in my head to the point that I have to remind myself that the fix-it isn’t part of the actual canon: favourite one of these?
Or
Your/a favourite part of actual canon. Like, maybe something little but it's just so lovely and fitting to you and you're just happy that it exists?
I’ve been a little down on Trek lately, so I’m going to type as fast as I can to brain-dump, in show order, the first things that pop into my mind that I absolutely love in Trek canon:
Kirk calling Nomad his son, the doctor
Christine Chapel’s snark to Roger Korby about schtupping the androids
Mark Leonard’s performance in Balance of Terror
the Horta (a great mama)
“Edith Keeler must die.”
Captain John Christopher, United States Air Force. Serial number 4857932.
Tribbles
the lesson of The Cloud Minders that we must have empathy and listen to others when they tell us about their lived experience in an environment unlike our own
the cheap-ass animation of TAS
Q
Bynars and Minuet
Beverly Crusher’s frustration in Arsenal of Freedom (and the episode’s Good Ship Lollipop joke)
Picard shooting the other version of himself in Time Squared (to clarify: out of respect for those times when we have to stop ourselves from getting caught in loops/doing stupid stuff and we summon up the courage to break a bad cycle and move forward)
K'Ehleyr
Picard out-lawyering the Sheliak
Rachel Garrett; Yar and Castillo
Lal (but I can’t watch the end anymore, it hurts too much)
the Shakespeare and “Set a course for Betazed. Warp 9.” comedy in Ménage a Troi
Best of Both Worlds, I and II (Shelby inclusive)
every conference table discussion in all of TNG
Beverly’s jump in Remember Me (such a damn good episode)
the reveal in Future Imperfect (which one? all of them)
The Dancing Doctor tap dancing with Data
Darmok. And Jalad. At Tenagra.
Ro Laren
Troi saying, “You could have easily been right” to Ro in Disaster
Hugh, Third of Five
the fact that The Next Phase has so many plotholes and they’re forgivable because the episode is so fun and great
Scotty on the holodeck version of the TOS bridge and Picard joining him
Rascals!
Deanna’s “Ancient West” outfit
the Jefferies tube music and make out session in Lessons
Attached. Oh, my heart.
the Enterprise with three nacelles … and that absolutely perfect last shot of the series
“You exist here.”
Sisko’s casual, everyday affection for Jake
“Old Man”
Rejoined. Lenara Khan. The love. That kiss. The emotional stakes. All of it.
the three Ferengi hitting their own heads to try to fix their universal translators so the 20th century Earth military people mimic the movement to try to communicate
every second of Trials and Tribble-ations including Sisko working overtime to stop fuckmaster Dax, tossing the tribbles, Sisko meeting Kirk, “We do not discuss it with outsiders,” and so much more
Kira blaming Bashir for putting the baby inside her when … you know … behind the scenes
The Sons of Mogh helping with the harvest in Children of Time
Far Beyond the Stars — some of the best if not the best science fiction I have ever seen
the monster fakeout (and kindness) in The Sound of Her Voice, even though the end makes me cry
“Computer, erase that entire personal log.”
Solok
Sisko and Kassidy discussing their comfort levels about a simulation in which the reality was segregation
Janeway waterfalling off the sofa to be closer to Mark on the screen
“Warp particles!”
the lizard babies
the two Janeways in Deadlock
Remember (a painfully good Holocaust episode that doesn’t get enough credit and, yes, I know the path the script took and I’m glad it ended up as a B’Elanna episode)
“I don't know what I'm seeking.” “Then I believe you are ready to begin.”
“The child you spoke of, the girl. Her favorite color was red.” Also, Tuvok’s meditation lamp in the window for Kes.
hot damn, Counterpoint, yaaas
everything in Relativity
“The Yankees, in six games.”
Janeway going after Seven in The Voyager Conspiracy
“This is Lieutenant Reginald Barclay at Starfleet Command.” “It's good to hear your voice, Lieutenant. We've been waiting a long time for this moment.” “The feeling is mutual. Unfortunately, the micro-wormhole is collapsing. We have only a few moments.” “Understood. We are transmitting our ship's logs, crew reports, and navigational records to you now.” “Acknowledged. And we're sending you data on some new hyper-subspace technology. We're hoping eventually to use it to keep in regular contact, and we're including some recommended modifications for your comm system.” “We'll implement them as soon as possible.” “There's someone else here who would also like to say something.” “This is Admiral Paris.” “Hello, sir.” “How are your people holding up?” “Very well. They're an exemplary crew, your son included.” “Tell him, tell him I miss him. And I'm proud of him.” “He heard you, Admiral.” “The wormhole is collapsing.” “I want you all to know we're doing everything we can to bring you home.” “We appreciate it, sir. Keep a docking bay open for us.”
“Nice hair.” (Live Fast and Prosper)
Janeway and Jaffen in Workforce
the spot-on legal concerns of Author, Author
“Set a course. For home.”
(Nothing from Enterprise or Prodigy only because I haven’t watched enough of Enterprise or any of Prodigy)
Burnham and Georgiou forming the delta with their footsteps
the CGI on only the shields protecting Burnham from space
“Are we in session? Because I didn't know you were practicing again. Because if I have your undivided attention for fifty minutes, I can think of a whole bunch of other things we could be doing.”
“That's as depressing a trait as I've ever heard.” “I don't give a damn … I still don't give a damn.”
Cornwell beaming in, phaser aimed, taking command of Discovery
Cornwell phasering the fortune cookies
Cornwell’s voice breaking: “So my Gabriel is dead.”
Detmer’s little bounce when Emperor-as-Captain Georgiou takes command
Pike beaming aboard and instantly being all like MOJAVE to prove to the audience he’s the guy from The Cage
New Eden. Everything. Oh my God (pun intended). The visuals. Owo’s backstory. Pollard patching Pike up after he’s shot. The light at the end. Oh my God, yes. That episode. Yes.
Number freaking One beaming aboard and having her lunch briefing with Pike (Chris and Una’s decades-long friendship wasn’t canon yet, but it shows here so beautifully)
Gabrielle Burnham
“In case the shit hit the fan.”
Michael Burnham on truth serum
Book
Laira Rillak, everyone!
Q&A
season 1 Raffi Musiker
Fleet Admiral and Commander-in-Chief Kirsten Clancy
“You owe me a ship, Picard.”
“You need a feather in your hat.”
Riker greeting Picard
Hugh greeting Picard
the separate trio of Raffi, Clancy, and Deanna all telling Picard he’s shit
Rios singing in Spanish
President Annika Hansen
everybody finding each other in the Confederation Universe
Liam Shaw — a character with incredible highs and lows
Majel Barrett as the computer voice when the crew gets to the Enterprise D
“Somehow I figured you might.”
everything in Ghosts of Illyria
Spock and La’an’s mind meld
Spock and T’Pring in Spock Amok
“You cannot resign. The loss to Enterprise would be unimaginable. To me.”
“If you’re going to steal a starship, do it correctly.”
Neera Ketoul
La’an normalizing needing to eat all the time as a teenager (especially important for girls to hear)
Pike and Una visually checking in with each other so often that it’s in their cartoon versions (that whole episode, actually, including, “Riker!”)
That’s scrolling through episode titles and jotting down stuff I love off the top of my head, fam.✨
Thank you so much for this ask, anon! ❤️ I needed this positive energy in my life.

In season 2, [Co-creator Ronald D.] Moore told Inverse:
Actually, I did spend some time thinking about that and in my head. None of this has been set down, I haven’t talked about this formally. But in my head, The Wrath of Khan is the first Star Trek movie [in the For All Mankind timeline]. They probably did the Star Trek: Phase II show that has always been talked about. The original Star Trek went off the air before the Apollo II landing. ... In my version of history, Paramount does make the Phase II show in the mid-seventies. And then they transitioned into Wrath of Khan and not Star Trek: The Motion Picture, because of the run of the lengthy and glorious, and critically acclaimed run of Phase II, it’s a year later that The Wrath of Khan comes out. But it’s still The Wrath of Khan that we know and it was essentially the same story. I love The Wrath of Khan and I couldn’t bear to change that. So it’s the same thing.
"Based on Moore’s explanation, Star Trek seems healthier in For All Mankind’s ’70s and ’80s than it was in our timeline, yet this also led to fewer iterations of the franchise. Does any version of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, or Enterprise exist in this alternate reality? Ron Moore worked on both Next Gen and DS9, so he may want to avoid references to versions of Trek he worked on."

Do you think the Night Island show is going to actually include Armand or is it going to be a bunch of OCs?
I personally think it's going to be mainly OCs and maybe some later book characters we haven't met yet. Something to keep people entertained in the lead up to Season 2. I also can't see them introducing Devil's Minion in a miniseries like some people have been speculating, I imagine that they will be saving a major relationship/plot point like that for the main show.
With it being set to release this year, filming is probably happening now or it is already in post-production. So thats part of the reason why I dont think we'll be seeing any major players (that we have been introduced to already)
Im cautiously approaching this and keeping my expectations very low. I just do hope that it is fun and adds something to the world that they've built and isn't a huge flop like MW.
I... think (and I'm playing Devil's Advocate here...) that the Devil's Minion arc itself will be in s2 of IWTV, and that the Night Island mini series will be in the later phase of Night Island.
At some point the vampires "we know" left Night Island.
And so... I think that show will have some cameos maybe, Armand will probably show up for a moment.
I think it will be mostly other vampires there.
BUT - that doesn't necessarily mean something bad, because those "other" vampires were never quite defined, and maybe that opens doors to other series or spin-offs. There's more than enough in the books after all.
"It is there still, The Night Island. It is there, and now and then I do go back, and I find there some lone immortal who has checked in, as we say in the modern age, to see how it goes with the rest of us, or with some other who might be visiting as well. The great enterprise I sold for a mortal fortune-but I maintain my ownership of the four-story villa (a private club: name, II Villagio), with its deep secret underground crypts to which all of our kind are welcome to come."
So.... while I don't think it will be actually home to the Devil's Minion arc (sorry), I think this could very well be rather fun. And could have a lot of potential, if done right.

For the ask game:
💕 tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them!
💎 are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?
💕 Fave character and why you love them?
I talked about Michael in that other ask so I'm gonna talk about B'elanna my b'eloved. Ooh, the shit she got on that show for no fucking reason. She has such a strong sense of justice and is so steadfast in fighting for what she believes is right, but she's also willing to listen (if grumbly about it) and will change her mind and admit when she's wrong much faster than most stubborn characters. It feels like she's so dedicated to fighting for others because she doesn't quite know how to fight for herself after an entire lifetime of being told everything about her is too much and it's so tragic that even with the connections she forms on Voyager, none of them assuage that because many of them, Tom being the worst, reinforce it. I love her so much and she deserves so, so much better than she was given
💎 Any fun facts or trivia?
I know so many Trek fun facts and trivia and I cannot think of a single one right now. Uhhhhh, Beyond's makeup team created 50 unique aliens because it was coming out the year of the 50th anniversary and yet they still lost the Oscar to Suicide Squad. Not even The Suicide Squad. Nichelle Nichols' recruitment efforts lead to 8,000 new recruits for NASA, including Mae Jemisin, which is why she has a cameo in tng. When The Menagerie aired, "Ugly Laws," which prevented disabled or otherwise "unsightly" people from existing in public under threat of fine or arrest were still in affect in several states, so while there's obviously very many issues with the portrayl of disability in that episode, it was at least somewhat progressive for the time in that they have a heavily scarred character exist at all. Which is part of why the ableism in Pike's current portrayl hits so hard. Marina Sirtis (Troi) and Denise Crosby (Yar) originally auditioned for each other's roles. Enterprise's Stigma is very losely based off a script called Blood and Fire that was purchased for tng but never used, reportedly because of Berman's homophobia, and the only reason it was adapted into Enterprise at all is UPN was doing an awareness campaign and made all of their shows do an HIV/AIDS episode. A much more faithful adaptation though can be seen in the fan series Star Trek Phase II which rewrites it to be set in tos and gives us Kirk's gay nephew. That's all I can do off the top of my head
