Was lamenting that I couldn't find a decent quality scan of this frankly iconic image used in some of the older Archie Sonic comics and uhhhh.... did something about that.
Original work done by.... Patrick Spaziante I believe! It looks like his style from the 90's, though i don't know if it was ever properly credited in the old issues. New inks and colors done by me for a fun little warmup- so not claiming any credit~

The Yellow Devil fight, once again with feeling! This whole issue pretty much covers the entirety of the final stretch of the game, so that means back-to-back boss battles, but with the added character growth Mega Man's gotten since the start. It's pretty epic!

So this page brings a lot to the table.
First, Sonic and Sally have a long history together- fascinating.
Then there's Eggman as the head of military -> head of science, and him clearly laying out his plans. In hindsight he obviously wants to dismantle the nation's defenses, but it's likely he was making arguments against military conflict- championing peace and arguing that the nation, given the current times of peace, should dissolve it's armies to demonstrate non-hostility and theoretically help prevent future conflicts. And of course, as the minister of science, he is well positioned to sabotage systems in secrecy, and prepare his own weapons of destruction.

This is brought up the next page, seemingly happening later. What war could Sonic be referring to?

i was trying to find patrick spaziante's original concept art for julie-su (ive seen it before at some point but now i cant find it for the life of me) but in doing so i stumbled upon this interview with him! he doesn't have any social media and is kind of private so it's really cool hearing him talk about his journey as an artist and stuff like that. he talks a bit about his work on the archie sonic comics, his art inspirations, and a lot of other stuff having to do with the art and comics industries. if you're a fan of archie sonic, or his other work, or comics in general, or an artist yourself, it's definitely worth a listen!

This issue serves as a good introduction to every important character from the first game, as well as give us an idea on the semi-futuristic world of 200X. We saw Mega Man earlier but here we see how he was before becoming the main hero!
Rock/Mega Man is just a simple robot kid, his sister Roll is the fussy but caring assistant-type, Dr. Light is the caring father figure to them both, and Dr. Wily... well, he steals the show in every panel he's in. Spaziante really made sure to make him look ominous at every opportunity. xD
