Update for Norizuki Kouhei and His Role in Ouran High School Host Club Musical
Tumblr media
Here’s a very quick translation of the announcements for the cast change for the Ouran High School Host Club musical. I haven’t attempted any translations in a while, but I wanted to for Norizuki Kouhei ;_;
From the official Twitter of Ouran High School Host Club musical:
[Important Announcement]
Norizuki Kouhei, who was planned to appear in the role of Fujioka Ryouji (Ranka), has withdrawn due to treatment of his lower back and will be immediately replaced by Rachi Shinji.
We sincerely apologize for the concern and inconvenience to our guests. Thank you for your understanding.
On the attached photo:
Important announcement related to Norizuki Kouhei’s appearance as Fujioka Ryouji (Ranka)
December 10, 2021
Thank you for your continued support of the musical “Ouran High School Host Club”.
On his first day of rehearsals, the agency affiliated with Norizuki Kouhei, who was scheduled to play the role of Fujioka Ryouji (Ranka), reported that he was diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis.
As a result of the discussion, it was concluded that it will be difficult for him to focus on treatment while participating in rehearsals and performance, so we are regretably announcing that he will be withdrawing his appearance. We sincerely apologize for the concern and inconvenience caused to those who were looking forward to his appearance.
The whole company is hoping for Norizuki Kouhei’s speedy recovery.
For the role of Fujioka Ryouji (Ranka), Rachi Shinji will be immediately replacing Norizuki Kouhei and the performance will proceed as scheduled on January 15, 2022.
All of the cast and staff will strive to deliver the best performance possible.
In addition, due to the casting change, we will be contacting those who purchased tickets with a “Norizuki Kouhei precedent” individually and will be accepting refunds. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
Furthermore, we plan to sell S-seat ticket not-for-sale merchandise as well as the performance merchandise without replacement due to the change in performers. If any other changes occur, we will notify you again on the official website and through SNS. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
“Ouran High School Host Club” Musical Production Committee

From Norizuki Kouhei’s official website Noetic:
Announcement related to Norizuki Kouhei’s appearance in the musical “Ouran High School Host Club”
December 10, 2021
Thank you for your continued support of Norizuki Kouhei.
Norizuki Kouhei was diagnosed with lumbar spinal canal stenosis by a doctor and is currently undergoing treatment. Regarding the plans for his performance in the musical “Ouran High School Host Club”, after discussions with the performance production committee, it’s been decided that he will be withdrawing.
Furthermore, for those who purchased tickets with “Norizuki Kouhei precedent”, due to the change in cast, a refund will be offered. For details on the refund and such, please check the official website for the musical “Ouran High School Host Club”.
To the guests and company of the musical “Ouran High School Host Club”, we offer our sincerest apologies for the great concern and inconvenience.
Noetic
---
Notes:
Lumbar spinal canal stenosis is a condition where the spaces between the spine narrow and can cause pressure in the spinal nerves.
Please excuse any errors huhu but I’ll try to translate the messages from Nori and Rachi as well later. I just wanted to share this. I’m sad to hear that Nori’s no longer playing the role since I was really looking forward to it. But his health is more important so I’m still glad that he’s getting treatment already. I also know Rachi will definitely deliver in his place, as another amazing actor and on his behalf as someone who has worked with Nori multiple times already. I’m glad to see them supporting each other. I’ll gladly watch Rachi in his place.
I was actually getting worried with the lack of updates from Nori recently and it looks like this was why. I’m really hoping for his recovery. I wish I could send him something huhu I will have to think about it ;_;

[Kanji/Romaji/English Lyrics] Musical StarMyu Third Season - “Monologue”
Tumblr media
The songwriters for the musical are really such godsends because this song is amazing! This is a solo song by Alex and this is where he sorts of tells a little bit about his life story to Hoshitani~!  It’s pretty sad, but really, what is StarMyu without a bit of angst? 。゚( ゚^∀^゚)゚。
The vocals are amazing, the lyrics are so sad, and Norizuki Kohei’s performance is just wonderful! You can really feel the emotion in this song~!
I hope you enjoy~! ※ If you’re able to, please do buy the DVD here or BD here to support the artists officially, thank you~!
Tracklist:
M06 - “Monologue”
※ Please don’t re-post and re-translate these under any circumstances without permission!!!
If you enjoyed this, please consider buying me a ko-fi here to support my work! It’ll be a really big help. (o^▽^o)Thank you!!

Introduction to Club Slazy
Tumblr media
Whether you heard your favourite 2.5D actor is in this or you just learned about its existence, this guide aims to help you dip your toes into the mysterious, sexy, and eccentric world of Slazy.
(Pictured from left to right: Oyama Masashi, Ota Motohiro, Yonehara Kousuke, Kato Ryosuke, Izawa Yuuki, Saikawa Koji, Gotou Takeru, Watanabe Daisuke, Fujita Ray, Norizuki Kohei, Inzagi, Morisaki Win, Kimeru, Higashi Keisuke, Fujiwara Yuki)
Tumblr media
At Dilly Dally St. 24-7, Club Slazy is a place dedicated to lifting sadness from women’s hearts, and can only be found when you receive a Garnet Card. The top performers there are called Lazies, ranked from the Top Ace to Second Ace, Third Star, Fourth Star, and Fifth Star. Aspiring to those positions are the background dancers called the New Jacks. All the performers are named from the letters of the alphabet and introduce themselves like so: “Starting with the letter A, my name is Act.”
Tinkering behind the scenes, the Mystics erase the footprints of the guests every night. Unlike the performers, they’re named by numbers. (The notable exception to this rule is Q the head of the Mystics, but Q and 9 are pronounced the same in Japanese). The viewer is considered one of the Mystics, named 386 (pronounced Miharu).
The cane-twirling Manager is the one running the show. He is assisted by his Shadow, a figure that is bound to his will and can only be seen by him, the Mystics, and the Owner.
The Owner of the club during the duration of the series is Mr.X, a powerful man who makes it known how much he enjoys toying with members of the club. He makes it as difficult to leave the club as it is to find it. Situated below Club Slazy is the vaguely creepy Underworld, and looming above is the soulless world of Tori.
In this series there are a total of six stage plays, five special lives, and a TV drama. The stage plays follow a non-linear timeline, each focusing on different characters during different points of an overarching story. Four of the special lives are just performances of the songs and dances while Special Live 2016 takes place after Final Invitation. The TV drama is a continuation after that.
The DVDs/CDs are available on AmazonJapan, CDJapan, GYAO!, or the official CLIE website. Please show your support to the actors!
Spoiler-free summaries are below. (These are not translations)
Club SLAZY - OPEN
Tumblr media
This is the first work in the series. It follows Endou (Izawa Yuuki), a despairing man who receives a Garnet Card after being dumped by his girlfriend. The Manager, Zs (Fujiwara Yuki), brings him to the club where he meets the Lazies. The short-tempered Top Ace is Act (Oyama Masashi), followed by the seemingly air-headed Second Ace Bloom (Ota Motohiro). The narcissistic Third Star is Cool Beans (Yonehara Kousuke), and the perpetually drunk Fourth Star is Deep (Kato Ryosuke). The Fifth Star position is vacant. Soon Endou becomes entangled in a part of the club’s dark past as he and Act fall prey to the manipulations of an ex-Lazy Ya (Osuka Jun).
*Watch it here: https://www.bilibili.com/video/av15141030/
2nd Invitation ~Sapphire~
Tumblr media
Sapphire’s story starts before the events of OPEN, when King (Watanabe Daisuke) was the Top Ace of the club. It also introduces us to Q (Norizuki Kohei), the head of the Mystics. King becomes enamoured with a woman who continually occupies the special seat meant for the person with the deepest sadness, yet who leaves before his performance every night.
3rd Invitation ~Onyx~
Tumblr media
Bloom disappears from the club, and in his wake, two mysterious and talented performers appear. They are named Reti (Inzagi) and Riddle (Morisaki Win) by Mr.X (Ishizaka Isamu) and proclaim their desire to take over the Lazies’ positions. The ensuing conflict tears the members of the club into two factions, battling to preserve or destroy the status quo.
4th Invitation ~Topaz~
Tumblr media
Deep’s brother, Doo Bop (Kuranuki Masahiro), returns to the club after years of separation. His arrival digs up memories of the past, both joyful and painful, especially for Cool Beans and Bloom. This is the story of how the brothers first joined the club, and how Deep is involved in Q and Bloom’s past.
~Another World~
Tumblr media
Before Act was Top Ace, it was Will (Higashi Keisuke), a man with a nervous disposition and a weak stomach. Supporting him from the position of Second Ace was V.P (Kimeru). The pressure of being at the top drives Will to make a desperate bid for freedom. Meanwhile, what really happened between Act and the expelled Fifth Star, Eyeball (Nagakura Masaaki), is revealed.
Final Invitation ~Garnet~
Tumblr media
While Odds (Fujita Ray) is the substitute Manager in Zs’ absence, a new Top Ace needs to be chosen. As he and the remaining Lazies agonise over this decision, Q visits the world of Tori to make a bet. The Lazies will compete against the Captain of the Tori and the New Jacks under Mr.X’s judgement. If the Captain loses, Zs will be safely returned to the club. If he wins, he’ll become the new Top Ace and the New Jacks will become Lazies while Odds and the old Lazies will be banished to the world of Tori. Who will be chosen?
SPECIAL LIVE 2016
Tumblr media
Club Slazy has a Red VS White singing competition! It’s Deep as captain of the “garnet red” team versus Cool Beans as captain of the “angel feather white” team. But this isn’t just repeat performances from the previous stage plays; the cast covers each other’s solo songs in this special year end spectacle!
Extra Invitation ~Malachite~
Tumblr media
Q has disappeared from Club Slazy. Is he on vacation? Did he get tired of everyone and leave? Or has he... been kidnapped? The drama is currently ongoing as of this date. You can find more information about it in this post and how to watch it as it airs in this post.
Still need more information? Feel free to drop me an ask about the story, the characters, or anything Slazy-related.
*This stage upload is not mine. If it breaks, there’s nothing I can do about it. I included it in this post since it’s already on a public site and it’s a recording of a free stream that used to be on GYAO. If you enjoy Club Slazy, please support the official production!

Rachi Shinji's Twitter Update
Jan. 17, 2022
This time, my appearance was decided suddenly, but the producer, director, production company, hair and makeup artists, costume designers, and all the staff and cast members helped me. So, above all, for the sake of the guests who come to see us, Norizuki-kun’s fans, and Norizuki-kun himself too, I will live as Fujioka Ryouji with all my soul until the end.
With my gratitude to everyone
#OuranHighSchoolHostClub
---
Note: I just had to share this because it made me really emotional...I am so grateful that it's Rachi-san taking Norikun's place. From the start, he's been talking about doing his best for the sake of Nori and his fans. And, as a huge fan of Ouran, Nori, and Rachi-san himself, I'm just. Really thankful for Rachi-san. I know he can and will do his best. I'm really looking forward to seeing him as Ryouji this Sunday!!

Oyama Masashi did another IG live earlier and he touched on a topic I find really interesting. He was discussing how Altar Boyz in Japan has a different feel compared to the original American production. The original was from 2005 (thanks to @altaruwusmolboiz for this information!), and he did point out it was supposed to be like 90s boy bands like Backstreet Boys (which is true lol it's kind of a parody of boy bands and Christian bands). In the Japanese version, they made the band seem cooler, like idols as he said. And he also pointed out how Mark's Epiphany is more obvious? As coming out as gay in the American version...I forgot what exactly he said, but, having seen both, I agree, mainly because it's more of a cultural thing I think? I don't really want to discuss differences in LGBT in the US vs Japan here because I don't think I'm informed enough as someone not from either country lol, but it really had a different feel. It's still the same idea at the core, but adaptations really have to, well, adapt depending on where they're being portrayed and who's portraying them. Add to that, the Japanese Altar Boyz is more modern, because it's been decades since. Admittedly, I haven't watched any recent restaging from US, but for most shows to remain running, it's important to keep things relevant in some way. Altar Boyz has been running in Japan for 11? 12? Years? And people still keep coming back to watch it. Aside from changing some cast members, they've probably had to adapt to changing times too.
Anyway, my main point is that I find it very intriguing to notice the differences in adaptations. Here in the Philippines, when Broadway musicals are adapted, most keep the exact same script along with context because Filipinos are used to adapting TO American standards. The retention of language alone is a huge part of it. There ARE differences, but not as significant because some part of American culture bleed into ours. I'll avoid going into a tangent about colonial mentality lmao but there's also something to be said about how most would like to keep things as close to the original Western production as possible. Which isn't completely possible with Japanese adaptations since the shift in language is nuanced enough without the added layer of cultural differences. I remember a friend mentioned watching a Broadway musical Japanese adaptation and wondering why the other people didn't find some parts as funny as they did. Jokes, references, characterization, setting--everything has to be adapted in some way. And, unlike subbing or writing, you can't explain something as part of translation notes. I have the ABZ pamphlet and they probably mention some of the adaptation choices, but I haven't really read it fully lmao tho that's part of the point. Not everyone will bother to find out why they decided to interpret this element to that or why a joke that was hilarious in the original fell flat in the translation. Most wouldn't even know these differences exist.
I kinda went off there, but I just wanted to say that I enjoy seeing adaptations despite having seen the originals. I love noticing these differences. I think it's very interesting. As one of my teachers said, there are no right or wrong choices in theater. A choice to interpret something in one way may or may not work depending on the situation or people involved.
A lot of it is still up to interpretation of the audience too. Like with my friend, other audience members might not have found the joke funny but this friend did. And when I watched Nori's Epiphany, I found it really hilarious anyway, not just because of his acting, but also because of my own previous stint as a bit of an evangelist and coming out as gay 😂
Special mention to the line "put it in me" being translated into 入れてちょうだい and the later い、れ、て in such a way that clearly alludes to...ehem. Needless to say, I perished that day and probably would have really had to confess to sin if I were still a devout Catholic 🙃
Also recently saw this from my old posts and kinda wish I did a full report bc I didn't recall this part until I saw this 😂 It's still similar to the original but that bit about poking at Nori was probably adlib 😂 (Note that this was from a March 2019 Team Gold performance)
Tumblr media
This partially ended up being a butai report ig oops is anyone even reading until this part? 😂
To end my unneeded geeking out on theater adaptations, I just think they're Neat. Honestly, if I could, I would probably work in this part of the local theater industry, whether adapting from or to English/Filipino/Japanese. I know there's been maybe a couple of older Japanese plays translated and staged here and my last play was Shakespeare partially translated into Filipino. And I'm excited to get my copy of 5 Guys Shakespeare because it's an adaptation of Hamlet into musical and staged with a limited cast. I probably would have ordered it even without Nori, but I'm glad he was there!
Ok I'll end this here for real, thanks for coming to my ted talk ig lol
