I was also tagged by @dandylion240 for this ask... thank you! These things are so fun. I've decided that I'm going to do a few for characters that don't typically get as much attention. So, without further ado...

Nikolai Pavlenko

Are you named after anyone?

Yes, I’m named after my paternal grandfather, Nikolai Mikhailovich Pavlenko. At some point in our family’s history, apparently some genius thought it’d be amusing to make it a tradition to name firstborn boys after our grandfathers. This resulted in us having alternating generations of oldest sons called either Nikolai or Mikhail (with corresponding patronymics, Mikhailovich or Nikolaevich). My sister and I are fraternal twins, and she's the elder twin, but lucky me... I'm still the oldest boy, so Nikolai it was. Not much for mixing things up, this family.

My grandfather immigrated to Canada with my parents, and he's always lived with them. Since Grandpa and I are both Nikolai, to avoid confusion at home, I'm always called Kolya by my family.

When was the last time you cried?

A couple of weeks ago, when I said goodbye to my love, Anya, at the airport. I tried to pretend I wasn't crying, but I think she figured it out.

Do you have kids?

No, thank the Watcher. I actually love kids, and I enjoy working with all my young students, but I don't think I'd be a particularly good parent. Besides, who would I have them with, anyway? I'm reasonably certain Anya’s not prepared to have children. She's not even prepared to settle down, so it's a safe bet that we're not about to be parents any time soon.

Do you use sarcasm?

Who, me? I wouldn't say I use sarcasm regularly, but I've been known to unleash a biting remark from time to time.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

The first physical characteristic I notice about people is usually their hair. I'm self-conscious about my own, so I think I automatically compare it to everyone else's. In terms of behaviour, the first thing I tend to notice is the way they interact with others. I consider myself a good judge of character, and I prefer to be around people who are courteous and kind to those around them.

What’s your eye colour?

grey

Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings. I will watch scary movies, mostly with Anya because she loves them, but I'd personally prefer to watch something with a lighter theme.

Any special talents?

I can juggle. I can even do it on skates. My students love it.

Where were you born?

Evergreen Harbor. My family moved to Brindleton Bay when I was a teenager, though, and even though I wasn't born there I consider the Bay to be my hometown.

What are your hobbies?

I like to draw, and I enjoy video games. I suppose cooking could be considered a hobby as well, couldn't it? I like to think of myself as a foodie, and I'm always happy to try new recipes. Writing started out as a hobby for me, but now it's become my secondary job since I started actually earning money from my coaching blog.

Have you any pets?

Not at the moment. I had two cats, Biellmann and Butterfly, but I had to leave them with my sister Natascha just before I moved to Japan.

What sports do you play/have played?

I've done lots of different sports, but my main one is skating. I was a competitive figure skater until I had a career-ending injury. Then, I transitioned to coaching, but I still love to skate. Other than skating, I really enjoy weight training and swimming. I'm not sure if yoga and dancing are exactly sports, but I like those as well.

How tall are you?

Not very, unfortunately. I'm probably not what most people consider short, but I always wished I would've grown a little bit taller than 173cm

Favourite subject in school?

Language studies. I speak three languages fluently; Russian, English and French. I also speak enough German for basic communication, and currently I'm learning Japanese since moving to Mt. Komorebi. I also liked Physical Education when I was in school, and I enjoyed history.

Dream job?

I have my dream job right now. I'm a figure skating coach, and I've had students competing (and winning) at both national and international levels. I also teach group and individual skating lessons for younger kids. I absolutely love teaching and coaching, and I really can't see myself wanting to do anything else more than this.

Tag 17 der Tour: Tag 7 der Safari - Transit zum Serengeti Park (Teil 2)

Die Straßen werden immer schlechter und wir fahren wie auf einer Buckelpiste durch karge Savannenlandschaft. Hin und wieder winken uns Massai zu oder Giraffen recken ihre Hälse.

Am Eingangsschild zum Serengetipark stellt Arnold fest, dass unser Truck leider was abbekommen hat. Somit fahren wir zunächst langsam ins nächste Dorf und hoffen auf einen Mechaniker. Er kann uns das Rad erst am nächsten Tag reparieren. Arnold entscheidet, dass wir morgens vorsichtig einen „game drive“ machen und während der Mittagspause wird der Truck repariert.

Auf dem Weg zum Campingplatz fahren wir vorsichtig die Straße entlang. Mitten auf dem Weg entdecken wir vor uns einen Serval. Diese kleineren Wildkatzen sind laut Arnold sehr selten zu entdecken. Man darf auch mal Glück haben!

Der Campingplatz inmitten der Serengeti (aus der Sprache der Massai: das endlose Land) ist mit Solarpanelen ausgestattet. Lediglich der Wasserstrahl der Duschen lässt deutlich nach, wenn mal 4 Personen gleichzeitig duschen. Wir schließen den Abend mit einer Harry Pottter Quizrunde von unserem dänischem Quizmaster Nikolai (die Jule natürlich gewinnt) und schauen gelegentlich in den sternenklaren Nachthimmel.

In der Nacht wird man des Öfteren von Hyänengejaule geweckt, die sehr Nahe an unser Camp kommen.

The most annoying thing is in some places eps 38-50 are season 3 and are season 4 in others

Ep1 has phenomenal use of color where its greyscale and basically monotone except for a few details, but its done so well that there’s depth and contrast with the grey on grey. The full color showing up from Ranpo’s PoV then is a shock and drives home the different viewpoint. Even the fight choreography of Oda vs Fukuzawa comes across clearly and better done than most full color fights in other shows

Living for this Ranpo serious character focus. The glasses transition as the world shifts into color. I’ve said it once but its so fucking good

Fukuzawa being featured in the flashback arc makes me appreciate him so much more, like I hadn’t paid him as much attention as other secondary characters because he got so little spotlight and seemed to have his shit together

Kunikida is really going through it ever since the tunnels, i love when good writing stresses a character’s ideals hard, so this plotline where things build and build and build has been great.

Kunikida made what looks like a sacrifice play, time to stay up to watch this. He has such plot armor that I can’t believe he’s dead.

Really enjoying how many other characters than Danzai and Atsushi get to be in the spotlight this season

Soon as I say that Danzai shows up as a plot twist. His intelligence is very much a plot device, which is why (IMO) fandom Danzai fic falls flat a lot of the time where its “he would not fucking say that/he’s not this much a woobie and is smarter than this”

I've been playing a drinking game for the number of anime eyeglass flashes this season

Yosano gets a PoV episode, and peak example of how this shows can explore darker themes even with a healing ability, and also nail the emotional impact with the camera pan on the medallion and suicide note

Into my drinking game and I’m really noticing and appreciating the little bursts of music for 10-30 seconds

Hmm Hirotsu is the 2nd character where it seems the hunting dogs have got a kill but body isn’t shown to the viewer

Was not expecting Tachihara to be the last Hunting Dogs member. I better rewatch earlier seasons

I read your tags and god yeahhh 😭 they deserved and had the scope to be the best characters written and then we got ... whatever the heck we got in row and kos duology as a whole smfh

Spoilers of Rule of Wolves ahead

No matter how hard I try, I can't figure out what statement RoW was trying to make, but I know what we got wasn't it. The plotlines were so... inconsistent? Unsatisfying? Both? 🤨 And it's not only exclusive to Nikolai and Zoya; I think the summary of the book should have been called: "List of characters who will be involved with complex topics in a poorly handled way and they will suffer a character retrogression because of it: Nikolai, Zoya, and Nina."

I'm so angry about the way Nina was treated in that book.

And speaking about problematic topics, I don't know about you, but Hanne's ending was... chilling 😬. I don't think it is that good of a message that they transitioned by killing someone else and stealing his identity 😬😬.

Don't get me wrong, I love Leigh, but these books were... 😶😶😶 They feel like one of those stories in which the characters have poorly thought happy endings that do more damage than good. As I said, character retrogression instead of progression, and they are so filled with cliché tropes and nostalgia-inducing moments that I can't help but feel were written to distract us from everything else that was wrong with the story.

This is the last part of me providing my Thoughts™ and Feelings™ about Shadow and Bone as I watch it 'cos this one is about the finale:

They brought back Alina and Mal reaching out for each other, and oh, boy, was that heartbreaking! It’s so well done yet so painful

Mal's turn-around of "Time will do it for me" to "Your past will do it for me” when he let the volcra get the Darkling was so good. I literally clapped, even though I knew the Darkling would, obviously, live

Also, the ending of the Darkling emerging from the Fold after Alina and Mal saying he’s dead was a great yet predictable (in a good way) transition. And the way the Darkling said, “Follow,” and the merzost just came with him was chilling. That was a perfect way to end the first season in my opinion

Not to brag, but I said three things before Jesper, one before Kaz, and one before Nina. I think my theory about absorbing the Crows' personalities is more true than I initially thought it was

Remember how I mentioned how the ugliness and asymmetry of the antlers in Alina’s collarbone was such an amazing parallel to the pain she is in? Well, her absorbing the antlers altogether after releasing herself from the Darkling’s control and realising the stag chose to give her its power is just. . .WOW. I honestly don’t know how to express how beautiful that was

Also, my best friend did bring up a good point: where did the antlers go? Did they just go further into her body? Did she legit consume them into her body and they’re just gone? What happened? 😂

Can I talk about Nina and Matthias for a hot second? I honestly don’t think I felt so much for Helnik when I read the Six of Crows duology as I did in this last episode, so I have a lot to say. The chemistry is straight from the pages of the books, but it’s so much different physically seeing them interact than just reading about it. It’s also different ‘cos we are seeing the relationship develop between them than being thrown in the middle of it with backstory being sprinkled throughout the progression of their story. The two of them flirting and being cute was so lovely, but the fear in Nina’s eyes when she knows she has to make a horrible decision between Matthias being arrested or being killed and then the betrayal that is written all across Matthias’ face in that cell on the ship was just devastating

I know this isn't about this episode, but I realised I forgot to mention it attached to episode 6 (I think), but Ivan threatening Jesper with him knowing what he is was dastardly. Like, I know you have to have read the books to know what Ivan was saying 'cos Jesper cuts him off, and I love little Easter eggs like that for us, but the foreshadowing of that shit was good. Leave the people who haven't read the books with questions and the people who have in anticipation! God, I love that!

Jesper still missing Milo is so precious and, I hate to say it, a mood ‘cos me too. I wanted to see a surprise appearance from the darling goat, but I will take Jesper bringing him up twice as compensation

Speaking of Jesper being a mood, Jesper begging for the reassurance that Kaz has got their backs with a plan was so painfully relatable. Bro, I would have done the same thing in that situation

It hurts me on a spiritual level to be aware that five out of the six Crows were on that boat at once. I need Wylan. Y’all, season 2 better happen 😭

And I want more interactions between Inej and Alina and between Inej and Zoya. That shit makes my Sapphic heart go berserk. You can’t look me in the eyes and say there isn’t the least bit of gay tension between these women. And that means I am so looking forward to Inej and Nina interacting; I may pass out

In addition to that, Kaz saying he needs Inej added five years to my life. And I think the happiest he looked all season was when Inej said she’d go with him to pay off Heleen and then decide what to do from there. And Kaz being a believer is ✨bonkers✨ in the best way possible

Lastly, to end with something about my boy, Jesper saying that he still couldn’t shoot Ivan’s pretty face was fucking great. I also died laughing at him saying that the true wealth was the friends they made along the way ‘cos of course Jesper is going to be the one to make a real-world meme reference and, on top of that, make it about the goat! Amazing, beautiful, wonderful. As always, I love him dearly

My final thoughts on the show as a whole is that it is a great adaptation of the books, especially with the blending of the storylines from the trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. The pacing was something I honestly had to adjust to, considering I know so much of the source material, but I think it worked and was a good choice to help viewers unfamiliar with the books understand what is happening. And even though I’ve read the books, I was pleasantly surprised with the numerous twists and turns; I was invested in the show as a whole, not just for the familiar characters and storylines (that was just a bonus, tbh). I genuinely love this show and am willing to say it is now tied for my favourite television show with Orphan Black and Good Omens. I’m hoping desperately for a season 2, not just for Wylan and Nikolai, but because this was truly so beautiful and brought me a lot of happiness and peace during one of the scariest and most stressful times in my life

I just want to thank anyone who has read any of these things I've written about the show. I truly didn't expect anyone to read them or even really care about what I thought or felt, but it does mean a lot that some of you are willing to read them at all and then even give them a like. This is just the adaptation of my favourite book series and knowing other people are caring about and even enjoying my reactions is so pleasant and comforting. Thank you 💕

Exclusif : La « 5-ème colonne » en voie d’être liquidée.

Vendredi 16 juillet, le Président Vladimir Poutine a approuvé un plan général visant à « nettoyer » les structures de pouvoir de la Russie des « éléments déloyaux et hostiles ». Le plan a été développé sous la direction de Nikolay Patrushev, ancien directeur du FSB et actuel Secrétaire du Conseil National de Sécurité.

Николай Патрушев Ce plan a été nommé « Только свои » (« Seulement les siens », à comprendre comme « seulement les notres »). Selon le document, il y a dans les structures de pouvoir de la Russie, jusqu’à 15 % d’éléments hostiles à la direction actuelle du pays et favorables à un rapprochement avec les pays occidentaux. Ce que l’on appelle communément ici « la 5-ème colonne ». Selon les auteurs du plan, ces 15% sont potentiellement prêts à aider « des forces hostiles dont le but est de détruire le pays ». Ce plan entrera en vigueur le 1er octobre 2021 et se poursuivra en principe jusqu’à la fin de février 2022. Un rapport sera remis au Président le premier jour de chaque mois, Le FSB est chargé de l’organisation et de la mise en oeuvre. Des commissions seront formées d’ici le 1er octobre pour organiser le développement pratique des opérations. Le 1er août 2021 commencera un processus préliminaire qui vise à définir précisement selons quels critères les « éléments hostiles » seront déterminés, à définir les méthodes employées pour les identifier, et à définir les mesures organisationnelles et opérationnelles. Les « éléments hostiles » identifiés feront l’objet de sanctions allant du licenciement à des poursuites pénales, sans préjudice d’autres mesures qui pourraient être prises si la situation l’exige. Il y a actuellement un statu-quo entre les diverses factions au sein du pouvoir: « Conservateurs » patriotes d’un côté, « libéraux » rêvant de l’alignement de la Russie au mondialistes, de l’autre. Ce plan vise clairement à mettre un point final à ce statu-quo en éliminant les seconds actuellement membres du gouvernement et des diverses services fédéraux, quelqu’ils soient. Il s’inscrit dans la perspective du « grand transit », expression désignant le départ de Vladimir Poutine du Kremlin. On ne peut que souhaiter sa pleine et entiere réussite afin qu’enfin les traitres soient élimines du système politique Russe. La seule chose que l’on peut regretter est que cette opération ne soit pas venue plus tôt, au vu des dégats commis par cette « 5-ème colonne » depuis des années. Description: Prince Kaz of Ketterdam has been subject of much mystery and speculation, but that doesn’t stop his brother, King Jordie, to arrange a marriage to Princess Inej of Suli. Neither party are happy with the arrangement. Kaz has other ideas and if he can drive Inej away, he can get back to the plans that’ll silence the demons that plague his dreams. Of course, what happens when she proves to be as stubborn as he is?

“Do my eyes deceive me or is this a wedding invitation?” Jesper’s brassy voice trampled any thoughts that Kaz was mulling over, and he didn’t hesitate to shoot his friend a glare. Jesper wore his grin much like his clothes, haphazardly and entirely too open. He held out a cream colored piece of parchment that had been sent out a week ago.

The Zemeni didn’t have a monarchy, but they still had a council and was governed by the general public. Both Jordie and Kaz had to learn about the different types of governance throughout the world, and had to know the corresponding terms that belonged to each. So while the Zemeni didn’t have a king, they did have chancellors, and Jesper happened to be the son of the High Chancellor herself.

The first time Kaz had seen the lanky boy, he had been twelve and Jesper’s mother had just been elected. Her and her husband had decided to take a tour around the neighboring kingdoms to assure no changes would be done with their treaties. At first, Kaz had been unsure about the boy who seemed to smile and talk far too much. He was a system of movements that seemed independent of one another, and while it was intriguing. Kaz also found it incredibly annoying. It wasn’t until he, Jordie, and Jesper took a trip to the armory that Kaz had decided to befriend the Zemeni boy. He did beat Jordie in a shooting contest, and any chance to knock his brother’s ego off its high horse was a good starting point to any friendship.

“You’re early.” Kaz stated as he watched his friend make himself at home in his study by pouring himself a drink and flopping down on his couch.

“Mother has some other business to discuss with your brother.” Jesper shrugged and taking a long drink, “And Da decided that he finally had time to examine the farming techniques of the Kerch or whatever.”

“Your mother still lets your dad run Jurda farms? Isn’t that slumming a little?”

“It’s not so much as letting him, as giving him a break from council meetings. He’s always hated the attention.”

“A trait that you don’t share, apparently.”

Jesper threw Kaz a wink, “Would be a shame to put these good looks to waste, don’t you think?”

“Why don’t you save it for someone who actually cares.” Kaz shot back.

Jesper just chuckled, and Kaz logged the reaction as a confirmation to Jesper’s changing feelings. He’s always known that Jesper had harbored some feelings towards him, but Kaz had never done anything about it. Besides the fact that he had always seen Jesper as a brother, Kaz wasn’t built for the kind of relationship that his friend was craving. The night he broke his leg was plenty of proof of that. Kaz had always thanked whatever saints were present that someone else had shown up at the right time to divert the affection.

“Speaking of someone who actually cares.” Jesper drawled while also getting up from his horizontal position to sit. He threw his legs out and tapped his glass with nervous fingers. “I don’t suppose you’ve seen a shy, anxious, chemist running around, would you?”

Kaz rolled his eyes, “I’m not Wylan’s keeper. And you know better to ask me that.”

“Yeah, well, I figured I could hit two birds with one stone, I get to know about Wylan and also transition to the real reason I’m here.”

Kaz had a clue as to what Jesper wanted, but he still said, “Spit it out.”

“The Princess of Suli.” Jesper said his smirk reaching his eyes, “Do tell me all those sordid details.”

“It’s an arranged marriage, Jesper. How sordid can it be?”

“You forget I know the princess, dear Kazzie,” Jesper intentionally said the nickname that should have ended with Jordie, “And she’s not just beautiful, but accomplished, smart, determined, kind--”

“I know.” Kaz didn’t need the rundown. He notices Inej too much as it is, he didn’t need the comprehensive list. “But this is all just a means to an end.”

“I’m glad that all these years haven’t taken the cryptic out of you. Any chance you’re going to elaborate?”

Kaz hesitated as he weighed the cost of telling Jesper his plans. Nikolai had sent him a missive two days ago saying that they were close to uncovering the Dime Lions. Thus far, they’ve only given him the name of the gang leader: Pekka Rollins. It wasn’t much, but it was something.

It was enough for Kaz to find out that he used to be a stonemason on the small nation of the Wandering Isle. He had moved to Kerch almost twelve years ago. He ran gambling halls and whorehouses and leased his thugs out to powerful men. This could include the person who had ordered the assassination of his parents.

He’d need more information though. It wasn’t enough to rely on a king who sometimes moonlights as a privateer. He needed an ear on the ground, and as Kaz looked at Jesper, an idea came to him.

“You still play the tables, don’t you?” Kaz said casually.

Jesper scratched a spot behind his ear, suddenly sheepish, “Um...sometimes.”

“By sometimes you mean you try not to get caught?”

“My parents have made it clear that if they catch even one card in my hand, I’d be shipped to the Shu for university, so no I don’t get caught.” Jesper said his glass was empty but he rolled it in between his palms.

“How about a job then?” Kaz said slowly.

“A job?”

“Yes. One where you get some credit every night, and you get to play in some of the best gambling halls Ketterdam has to offer?”

Jesper’s eyebrows raised in shock. And he couldn’t blame his reaction. He knew that his friend had gotten into his fair share of trouble over nights of endless “just one more hand”s, but he couldn’t think about that now. Jesper wasn’t going to change unless he wanted to, so it seemed like a wasted opportunity to not use that to his advantage.

“Let me get this straight,” Jesper got up from the couch and started to pace, “You’re offering to give me money so I can play cards up and down the gambling district?”

“I’m offering to give you money, so you can play and listen to conversations and tell me what you hear.”

If he had looked shocked before, it didn’t hold a candle to the expression he had on now.

Kaz got up from behind his desk and moved to the drink cart, “I’m getting close, Jes. I’m getting close to figuring out who had ordered my parents’ death. And I need someone to get me information. I can’t trust anyone at the Crow Club and I don’t trust any of the guards to not tell my brother about this. Jordie can’t know. Will you do it?”

He turned around to face Jesper, and he saw him sift through the risks. It wasn’t just the playing in less-than-reputable gambling houses, Jesper would also be risking his parents finding out or that someone might recognize him, or losing to the wrong people. But then again, Jesper always had a taste of the wild and dangerous, it had benefitted Kaz on more than one occasion. And he felt Jesper’s agreement even when he said, “What do I get out of it, Prince Kazzie?”

“Besides my silence regarding the trouble you got into the last time you were in the Crow Club? I’ll tell you where Wylan is.”

Mischief danced in his gray eyes, “I can always trust you to deliver the vinegar before the honey, can’t I? Okay, fine. I’ll do it.”

Kaz nodded once, “Start tonight. I need anything you can find out about the Dime Lions and Pekka Rollins, but don’t be stupid about it.”

“When have I ever?”

“I’m serious, Jes.”

“Don’t tell me you’re actually worried about me?” There was that smirk again.

“I’m worried about the excuses I’d have to make to your parents and my brother if you’re taken hostage or dead in a ditch. So be careful, Jesper. I’ll have Anika and Pim escort you. Meet them at the Crow Club.”

“Nothing says safe better than bouncers.” Jesper rolled his eyes and began making his way to the door, but Kaz noted the tension in his shoulders, the danger of this assignment settling into his spine.

Kaz went back to his desk, his drink in hand, while Jesper raised an eyebrow at him.

Kaz sighed, “Wylan’s hiding out in the music hall. I suggest you hurry. His father thinks he’s at university right now.”

As soon as Jesper eagerly left his study to go bother someone else, Kaz waited a few more minutes before saying, “I can feel your questions burning a hole through that wall, Princess. Speak your mind.”

He sat back in his chair as he heard the secret door open off to his left and Inej materialized in front of him with a stony expression on her face.

“How did you know I was there?”

Kaz shrugged. Call it a sixth sense or intuition, but Kaz had always been finely attuned to the feeling of being watched, and since Inej walked through this world like a spirit, he had to more or less rely on that.

“You sent Jesper out to a gambling hall.” Inej stated, her eyes as sharp as the dagger sheathed at her waist. She was dressed in dark trousers and a tunic today. An attire made for battle than a palace.

“I sent him out to several.”

“And you know about the scandal he had caused because of his taste for cards?”

Kaz did know about that. He was the one who had bailed him out. With the added benefit of Jesper owing him a favor.

“Is there a point to his inquiry?” Kaz said instead.

“You sent him out to find information for you even at the risk of ruining his reputation and the reputation of his country?”

“Jesper doesn’t need my help in ruining his reputation. He does it fine by himself.”

Inej studied Kaz for a long while. Her rich brown eyes, analyzing his face as if there was some secret there that she longed to pull out. He stayed perfectly still under her scrutiny. He wouldn’t be intimidated by her. He wouldn’t let her infuriating righteousness distract him from his goal.

“How long have you been looking for your parents’ muderer?”

There it is. He knew that the question had to come eventually, especially since she seemed to have heard his entire conversation with Jesper.

“Since the day I had found my parents dead.” Kaz said simply. The rest of the story was on the tip of his tongue, but he held back. Those memories had already plagued his nights, he didn’t need that darkness to seep into his days either.

“Why don’t you want your brother to know you’re still looking for them?”

“Because he’d tell me to give it up. Jordie has always been the better man, so he was able to let it go. To move on. I won’t. I can’t.”

Inej was silent again, but he noticed a shift in her eyes. They went from scrutinizing to sympathetic and he hated the comfort he found there.

“Revenge is a dagger that you hold over your own heart, prince.” Inej said.

“I have no interest to hear your Suli proverbs, princess.” Kaz snapped. “If you have nothing else to berate me for, or if you insist on lecturing me on a pain you don’t understand than I invite you to leave.”

Inej’s jaw ticked, and the sympathy in her eyes disappeared. She stalked closer to his desk, and Kaz felt his own anger spark with hers.

“You will never know anything about my pain, prince. I had to suffer a kidnapping, two years in hiding with a circus, and no way to contact my parents. You have no right to say anything about my pain.”

Kaz knew the story. The princess of Suli had been taken, but no ransomed place. They said that slavers were responsible for it. His brother had tightened their security when the news had reached them. And the rumors were rampant about the fate of the princess. Some had said that she had died. Or that she was sold to a pleasure house on the shores of Shu. Or that she still lived. It had come to a great relief when she had turned up back to her home, dirtied, half-starved, but alive.

His parents had been dead for two years, and he had been floating on his own delusions to really have time to put out his own conjectures. While Inej studied him, Kaz took his time reading the emotions behind her eyes. There was annoyance, disdain, and more importantly anger. Anger was understandable. Anger was easy. Anger still meant that she cared. And that was worth everything.

“Tell me, princess, given the chance, if you could look at those slavers in the eye as you drive that knife into their hearts. Would you do it?”

Her hesitation was all the answer he needed.

“Revenge may be my undoing, but not before I take down the demon that created me.” Inej didn’t say anything, and Kaz felt something else move between them. Something other than contempt and disdain. It came close to understanding, maybe that’s why he offered something to her. “You have certain skills I can use, Princess. Skills that’ll bring our engagement and my goals closer to the end. If you help me, I can help you.”

They hung suspended in silence. Caught in a battle of wills that neither was used to losing.

Eventually, Inej took a step back. Her face suddenly unreadable.

“Can you guarantee that you can find them? The slavers that took me?”

“No.” Kaz said bluntly. “I can’t guarantee them, but you seem the type to still have hope in the impossible. Now, what do you say, dear fiancee? Help me, help you?”

Katia looks through a few messages on her phone as she leaves the hospital though the back and towards the empoyee parking lot. The work meeting she had just exited went later than usual, which wasn’t all the surprising. Conference calls were always a breeze for her and it could even be fun if it was with someone she's worked with before. This was one of those meetings, thankfully, which meant that Katia hungup the phone in a great mood.

‘ Miss! Excuse me, miss! ’

The fae looks up from her phone to see two men coming towards her. She stops immediately, but in a very Katia-like fashion, she flashes them a kind smile. “Yes?” ‘ Sorry to bother you, but me and my friend here are lost. We were trying to find the Blue Bell Motel and we took a wrong turn. ’ Katia nods and gives the two men an empathetic smile. “You wouldn’t be the first ones, I believe. From what I’ve heard it’s an easy place to miss.” She moves closer to one of them and asks to borrow his phone so that she could put notes of the directions they needed. One she's done, Katia gives back the phone. As the man takes it back, he gives a thankful nod and slips his phone into the pocket of his jacket.

‘ Thank you. Have a good day, Miss. Kjar. ’

She stills visibly, looking at the map but not seeing what was in front of her. “... I never gave you my name.” She whispers, looking up at one who said her name. He stares at her for a moment and then looks her over. - Looking for a name tag that she wasn't wearing to blame, perhaps? Realizing his mistake, Katia goes to step back but the second man is faster. He takes her wrist with a grap so tight that it forces her to gasp out in surprise mixed with pain and pulls her close. ‘ Scream and it all ends here. ’ She doesn’t scream. She doesn’t make a sound. But she does fight and push and pull against the men as they drag her to the back of their vehicle. She sees the trunk door opening and she lashes out harder than before.

Stopping abruptly, Katia feels the rough tug of one of the men taking her purse and tossing it into the bushes not far off. Sliding a hand into her jacket pocket, the man takes her phone and tosses that as well. She heard the clink of it smashing against rocks. Katia looks around, wondering if anybody was around. It was past twelve am. Despite those who worked shift work, they wouldn't be leaving for their lunches in another twenty minutes. And that's if they did leave the hospital. They would probably stay inside because it's too cold to even want to walk to your car. The security cameras! Surely there were cameras out here, right? Before she could even attempt to look, they put her hands behind her back and tie them. A cloth over her head and shove her into the trunk of the car. She lets out a scream for help, but it’s quickly cut off from trunk closing.

Katia strained against the zip-ties, she can feel blood running over the translucent plastic, red on white. Her nose filled with the musty scent of the sack that covered her head and in the almost blackness her eyes strained for some sign of what was to come. Katia didn't understand why they had put cloth of her head when she already saw their faces and was now in the back of the trunk. Was this an intimidation move? Katia has to even her breathing, whenever she takes in a breather the mask covers her nostrils and her mouth if she takes in air too quickly. Katia doesn't know how long the has been in the back of the trunk for, but she's beginning to feel lightheaded, and from the shifting motions from right to left and the revving of the engine, she knew she was in transit and had been for some time now. It's a struggle to now allow her eyes to close and pass out.
