so so annoying seeing NSW police bitch and whine about being uninvited to the sydney mardi gras parade after one of their officers murdered a gay couple the other week. after they found that the police had been purposefully under (or just not) investigating the murders of queer people for over half a century. after not implementing any of the recommendations from an inquiry into their practices around queer hate crimes.
If you're a cop and you want to attend pride do what the rest of us do and take your fucking work uniform off.

if you live in New South Wales, Australia and dislike how the New South Wales Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages requires that trans people born in NSW wanting to change their gender marker on their birth certificate undergo surgery, a requirement that every other Aussie state has abolished, there is currently an ePetition asking the Legislative Assembly to amend this.
again, anybody living in NSW can sign. your name and email won't be public and will be deleted after six months. it's already at the 500-signature mark which means a Minister must provide a response, but if it reaches 20,000 it will be debated in the NSW Parliament's Legislative Assembly
petition will close on August 17th, 2023

Feeling emotional about ministerial oaths/affirmations again. Daniel Mookhey was sworn in today as the NSW Treasurer. He was sworn in on the Bhagavad Gita, the first Australian Minister to do so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love it when the books are beautiful, and this one is. Now I need the article someone is undoubtedly drafting up right now about the personal background of this copy (get on it ABC).
It also reminds me, since it IS Ramadan, of my favourite book used in any Australian ministerial oath, the sunset pink Qur’an, the first Qur’an used for a federal ministerial oath.
Tumblr media
Along with being visually stunning, the background to this one is just moving. It’s been used by Ed Husic and Dr Anne Aly for their federal Ministerial oaths and affirmations (respectively). It was a gift from the Muslim Women’s Association to Husic by Maha Abdo, who chose it specifically because it had been a gift to her by a group of teenage girls.
“Every young girl had a pink Koran. Pink, what does it stand for? There’s so much in it. I didn’t realise it was to be gifted to this amazing person who was sworn into parliament,” Abdo said, adding she could not divine its purpose until now.
“For me, it is very much about feminity, purity ... it is also hope in the fact that it reminds me, as well, when the sun sets, the sky goes that pinky colour. The sun has set, and now it’s about to rise.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s just so beautiful and meaningful (Husic passed it to Aly in the line, and I’ve never been able to figure out if they discussed sharing beforehand or agreed on the day, because Aly was making an affirmation) and it matches both Labor’s colours and their outfits so well. Aly became Minister for Early Childhood and Minister for Youth holding a Qur’an originally chosen and gifted by a group of teenage girls.
More books for oaths should be chosen because they are objectively beautiful pieces of art, as well as being personally meaningful.

The Courts have been putting out some absolutely banger decisions lately. This isn't a complete strikedown of the anti-protest laws but does defang them a bit.
From Justice Walton: "The provision impermissibly burdens the implied freedom of political communication contrary to the Commonwealth constitution." Hehe get fucked Perrottet.
Good on the Knitting Nannas.

While I prefer to keep political posts off this channel, I can't stay quiet any longer. This type of state sanctioned behaviour is unacceptable anywhere, let alone in a liberal democracy. We have a state election next month. Time for a big change. "First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." —Martin Niemöller Posted @withregram • @greencate Last Saturday at midnight Cherish Kuehlmann was dragged out of her home and arrested by the NSW Police Force and detained for four hours. Her crime? On Friday, she led a snap rally of 30 or so young people out the front of the Reserve Bank without a permit. The police made a premeditated decision to use their powers to intimidate a young woman at midnight in her own home. If that's not a sign that police are completely out of control in NSW I don't know what is. The last year has seen a deliberate escalation by police action against peaceful protesters. This has been led by the Liberal-National Government who, in lock step with Labor, passed draconian protest laws sending a bipartisan signal to the police to crackdown on peaceful protest. Protest is vital to a healthy democracy. The next generation is crying out as they watch their future being stolen from them yet the message the Government is sending them is 'if you speak up and fight for your future you'll be thrown in jail'. The Greens will always defend your right to peaceful protest. One of our first acts in the new parliament will be to Introduce laws enshrining that right ✊🏼 #nswpol #auspol #nswvotes #righttoprotest #defendourdemocracy #nswgreens #housingcrisis #rentalcrisis https://www.instagram.com/p/Co-1HHxSYZF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Damien’s Equipment + Reference 2
Hello friends! So you might we wondering, “tumblr user kaitaiga, why are you reposting this?” Well it was about 10 minutes ago I was laying here when it hit me, I USED THE WRONG/OUTDATED CAMO 🧍🏻‍♀️ anyways, let’s get back into it.
This is the latest auscam print, AMCU, which I’ll be now using on all my new posts of Damien as compared to before where I was using DPCU. Nothing wrong with it! But I believe it’s now used mainly for reserve units.
Posts continues down here, plenty of stuff ⬇️
Alternate Outfits
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ah yes the all black…..he doesn't wear this very often as most of his work requires him wearing the cams. However, this outfit would be worn in domestic counter-terrorism ops if he was ever needed in Tactical Assult Group East (TAG) or alongside NSWPOL TOU. There is also a gas mask hung from the back.
Then next to it is the outdated DPCU.
Equipment
Tumblr media
Primary Weapon: M4A5. This is the standard Australian Special Forces rifle.
Secondary Weapon: HK USP Tactical. Again, standard Australian Special Forces handgun.
Close Quarters: regular tactical knife. Alongside this is a sledgehammer, not for killing, more so to breach doors without the need of explosives.
Patches
Tumblr media
Australia Patch: self explanatory
2CDO emblem: now, I couldn't find much on what patches commandos wear out on field but from what I saw it kinda changes a lot depending on what they're doing/where they're going. So I just stuck with the regular emblem.
Blackbeard Patch: now, I do believe that a lot of operators have their on reason to wear this patch, mostly SF operators, but l'm pretty sure it was made popular due to Christian Craighead (former SAS). Naturally it's to do with instilling fear upon your enemies.
Appearance
Won't go too much into it here as l've mentioned this in his profile but some key takeaways are: has a mullet and three moles.

So, the Rail Tram & Bus Union (RTBU) has been doing low-commuter-impact strikes actions on and off for months. Stuff like no overtime, no work changes, that sort of thing. And it’s been over things like hygiene, enterprise agreements, concerns over privatisation, poorly made trains from overseas that started cracking after like 4 years, etc.
Rather than negotiate with the RTBU, the NSW government has has been trying to take legal action against them striking. (x)
As part of that today when workers turned up to do their jobs they found they were locked out and told the trains weren’t running by management (x)
And that the Transport Minister was on the radio saying it was all the unions doing and comparing them to - no shit - terrorists.
Anyway, that’s why there’s commuter chaos across the state.

the thing is there are so many actionable things the police could do to help repair their dogshit reputation amongst the queer community, in some cases they’ve literally been given a dot-point list on what to do. unfortunately because the cops don’t actually want to do anything that helps queer people their tactic has been and will continue to be complaining about the mean lgbts telling them they’re not allowed at their parties + doing literally nothing else

#Repost @markpearsonmp @download.ins --- This week in Parliament, I put in on the record that the renowned chef Marco Pierre White has placed 3D-printed vegan steaks on the menu in all of his 20 restaurants in the UK, and asked the NSW Government if they accept that the future is plant-based meat and that they need to urgently support NSW meat producers to transition before they are left behind in international markets. Bronnie Taylor's response was one of complete denial. She spoke at length about how much she loves meat, and didn't answer the question at all.
